Marca are saying Barcelona want to sign Cameron Brannagan from us.

Jack Robinson was apparently seen at Melwood today and there are rumours that we are going to recall him? Do you know anything about this eds? Thanks

Hounsred

{Ed001's Note - he went back for 'treatment on a knock' but there has been some enquiries regarding his availibility, so it is very possible he has been recalled for a sale.}

Seems like Southampton are in for Wesley Hoedt. Since we'll probably be after him in a couple of years anyway why not bypass VVD and just sign Hoedt now instead?

Really does make you think.

Would you rather:
1.) Win the Europa League and finish 8th
OR
2.) Finish 4th but don't win the Europa League

Winning the Europa League would be nice as its always good to win trophys but on the other hand finishing 4th would probably make other teams and potential transfer targets take us more seriously.

1.) 20 Apr 2016 15:52:51
Come on Hounsred.

Win Europa and finish 8th. Football is all about winning trophies not finishing 4th every year. Ask Arsenal.

2.) 20 Apr 2016 15:52:52
Win the Europa League and finish 8th. We go into the Champions league anyway, and attract transfer targets.

3.) 20 Apr 2016 15:53:54
You get CL through winning Europa league so bit of a no brainer. Trophy and CL.

4.) 20 Apr 2016 16:01:41
Trophies mate, all about trophies.

5.) 20 Apr 2016 16:35:51
I would take the EL and finish bottom half for all I care (except for relegation of course) . Champions league spot and a trophy.

6.) 20 Apr 2016 16:43:20
win the europa league and finish 4th :) ), but its a decision between a cup now or entering another cup competition which we will find very difficult to win, so its the europa for me.

Play with Henderson and Milner in the middle and you will get exactly that. We will be a bit more solid but our build up play will be uninspiring. These same 2 players have been playing in midfield for England recently with the same result.

Henderson's first touch is backwards 9 times out of 10. He seems scared to lose the ball. He wants to knock the ball into the space behind him. This slows our play down. He also waits too long before releasing the ball. Emre Can showed him how its done yesterday.

Playing in that position is just no not Henderson's game. He's much more effective when he's running on to the ball and has less time to think about what he's going to do. The perfect position for him was when he was playing on the right of a diamond in 13/14.

agreed! - if rodgers plans to play two CM's, it has to be emra can with either milner or henderson.

2.) 10 Aug 2015 18:18:19
Houns,
Agree, not sure there was a great many alternatives but Mr. Rodgers may find his hands tied having to pick JH now he is named captain. He didn't perform particularly well last season [granted his ban at end of season before that may have had some part in losing the title]but he will now be a guaranteed starter although a better option may be a combination from Milner/Can/Lucas.

3.) 10 Aug 2015 18:54:57
Henderson is not a holding player at all.

4.) 10 Aug 2015 19:02:02
Milner, Henderson works well in a 3-man midfield. A DM behind them let's them get forward where they can dictate the attacking tempo. Defensively, they are both suited to pressing and blocking passing lanes. We saw in preseason how effective this can be.

5.) 10 Aug 2015 19:53:32
Yes Hendo needs licence to roam. Can should play from now on and we slightly alternate our formation to let Milner and hendo press

6.) 10 Aug 2015 21:33:32
Nobody should be undroppable,, captain or not

7.) 11 Aug 2015 00:03:21
Kitt is spot on! BR messed up again by not playing a DM in the first half which shackled Milner and Hendo. Only when Can came in did we get better and take the game to them. He still has not learnt and I hope he has because vs better teams, we will be shown up

8.) 11 Aug 2015 01:15:24
Redohio them two shackled themselves, more so Henderson because Milner actually got involved in positive play. You have to be clever enough to know when you can/should play to the opportunities that come in front of you, but then again henderson doesn't even know what is going on around him when he gets the ball.
Before the pass comes to him he just thinks about the ball and keeping it safe where others will have a quick glance to see what is on. This then forces him to receive the ball in a negative way because he doesn't know he has time and space on the ball and doesn't have a maker on him.
Hopefully Gary Mac can have a positive impact on that aspect of Henderson's game and give him pointers on how to be more spatially aware & to be calmer when receiving the ball in certain situations/positions.

9.) 11 Aug 2015 04:09:26
Hyach, you missed the point. A player cannot hold himself back if the coach doesn't tell him to play against his nature. Hendo is not a DM and playing him there is just stupid. He dis strength is pressing the ball up the pitch and the fact that BR changed the system with Can coming on as the DM, it freed him and Milner up to press Stoke and provide more help to Benteke. Blaming players for the coach's mistakes is just baseless and disingenuous. You cannot blame Hendo for doing what BR told him to do and that is as pathetic an excuse to absorb BR of his initial screw up as there is. And the fact that BR made the switch proves my point and debunks yours, completely.

10.) 11 Aug 2015 09:30:00
there will be games soon when a Defensive Central midfielder will be needed or if not exclusively defensive someone that can screen and play (playmaker) which we unfortunately in the premier league and country as general lack. Spain and Germany/Italy have them such as Alonso, Pirlo was, Busquets, Kroos etc.

maybe and hopefully Rossiter will get a chance and step-up as Brenda doesn't fancy Lucas. At the end of the day, boring game, few chances, you get them, we won and got 3 points so let's go again get 3 in the next one, keep happy and positive everyone.

29 Jun 2015 18:20:02
Ed001 you said Benteke doesn't fit our style, but isn't Rodgers the one who wants him? So maybe our style will be different next season. Or is Rodgers just that stupid?

Hounsred

{Ed001's Note - I think you answered your own question, it was a roundabout way to reach it but you did get there in the end.}

1.) 29 Jun 2015 19:16:27
All this talk of our style and pressing etc did we even do that more than a handful of times last year? Maybe that's not actually our style anymore lol

2.) 29 Jun 2015 19:27:59
Maybe he is going to copy Tim Sherwood's philosophy after the battering we received in the FA Cup semi?

3.) 29 Jun 2015 20:21:30
I tend to agree with OGs comment a little down the page,
The fast, pressing attacking football was IMO seldom seen last year.
We could well be gearing up for another season of bedding in 7 new players and all learning a new system.
I'd love to be proven wrong, but the type of strikers we are pursuing would suggest otherwise,
I have no issue with a Benteke type striker, but I don't want 25 players trying to adapt to a new formation and new tactics again,

4.) 29 Jun 2015 21:05:55
It's more.

Wr had our most success playing a pressijg game and we zero success last year not playing that way.

Our players play better in the press (ie Tottenham game) than long ball etc

FSG have made a lot of mistakes since becoming our owners. Is there anything they have done right in your opinion?

Hounsred

1.) 17 Jun 2015 15:03:10
Pretty much save the club

2.) 17 Jun 2015 15:07:31
Stopped us from going into administration

Started work on the stadium

3.) 17 Jun 2015 15:11:54
'Reducing' the massive debt, stadium expansion.
Just because we haven't signed a marquee that'll make LFC fans melt. Doesn't mean they haven't done anything good!

4.) 17 Jun 2015 15:20:03
FSG are a huge step forward from the previous planks. Making a firm decision to redevelop Anfield another good decision.

5.) 17 Jun 2015 15:24:44
Not allow the club to go bankrupt? Fund the club despite making huge operating losses.

They've have done plenty right when it comes to the commercial side of the club and have dipped into their own pockets many, many times.

Bit confused why some fans refuse to acknowledge this.

6.) 17 Jun 2015 15:28:36
They have done a lot right.
Getting rid of Gillett and Hicks will always be appreciated.
They have improved the turnover of the club not least with better marketing.
They are increasing the capacity of Anfield and also the corporate facilities.

They have fallen down massively on the football front.
I don't know who advises them, so I can't comment on individuals, but I know they are being advised and the advice they are following leads to recurrent failure.

Like I say, I will back Rodgers and any manager whilst they are in the job, but it wasn't my preferred choice, and the way the process was conducted was pure farce.
I also think they made mistakes with Comolli and the transfer negotiations for their whole tenure has been foolish.

7.) 17 Jun 2015 15:56:18
Yeah I meant what have they done right regarding the playing side of things. Obviously they saved us but that was 4 years ago

8.) 17 Jun 2015 16:10:40
The problem isn't FSG. The problem is the personalities in the general management of the club - Ayres, Rodgers etc etc

9.) 17 Jun 2015 23:56:48
Agree with Ron! They have been great and supported every manager under them so none can complain. However, they seem not to learn from their mistakes and who ever is advising them should be fired and they should hire Ed01 because clearly these "advisers" are nothing but mugs who have no idea what they are doing.

A lot has been made of Everton's new spending power but considering they just got 75m for Lukaku they haven't really spent anything on top of that.

Ed001 the lack of leadership thing is something that you see in pretty much every team these days. Is it just me or do players not care as much as they used to. When the ball is in the air you don't see players fighting to win the header like they used to. That intensity isn't there anymore.

It feels like i'm watching a different sport these days. Where are the Keanes, Vieiras, Gerrards etc?

Hounsred

{Ed001's Note - young players come through academies with everything put on a plate for them, they no longer have to fight for it. That is what Leicester did differently, they put together a team that has had to fight for it and they used that fight to win the title.}

I don't have an issue with Smith leaving that gap behind him. Its the way he didn't make any effort to get back until Rondon was slipped in. Only then did he get on his bike and try to put a block in.

You praise Smith for getting back but that's what Moreno does every game. Gets caught out of position then relies on his pace to save him and the team.

Where was Smith for their goal? Strolling back into position until it was too late.

Ed001, don't you feel we need a midfielder too? We all saw what happened when Can and Hendo were both out. I know we will have Grujic but he's still a young player.

Hounsred

{Ed001's Note - and Stewart and Branagan will be there. We need to develop those not buy.}
