We might need to wait till Pep gets bored of this league and David Silva hangs up his boots for any team to have a crack at the league let alone us.
It's shame we have done as much as we could. Splashed money, bought players, changed tactics, everything in the book and stilll miles off City.
City are making Southampton a proper pub team! And that is being very generous.

I said in the summer Fekir would be the difference in winning the league and finishing top 4.

Fillet Weld

{Ed0333's Note - we haven’t got going yet Harry were second in the league and not even playing to anywhere near our potential. Yes Fekir would be amazing but Keita and Fab haven’t shown their true potential yet and the Fab 3 are below par. I’m hopeful things will click and then we’ll see. By the way how are we miles off city? Didn’t we cane them last season and didn’t they come to Anfield not to lose this season?

After one result seems like some have given up on the league
Amazing imo
OH YE OF LITTLE FAITH.

{Ed0333's Note - not given up mate just deflated a little as we all want the league so badly and it’s natural to be disappointed after a result like yesterday knowing we should have won the game and City are just a winning juggernaut

I'm watching the game - Southampton, in the first half, produced one of the worst defensive displays I have ever seen. Hoedt is an awful defender, their entire back line is dithering and indecisive and their keeper looks like a shrinking violet. Yes City look great but this is a woeful team, do not look into it too much.

@Ed0333 - You are right that we haven't got going but it is looking increasingly likely that, rather than us not getting going, that this is simply our new tactic/ game plan. The press has all but vanished, the intensity is noticeably reduced BUT we are tighter at the back and harder to beat. I'm not sure that swash-buckling style from last season is going to make a return - I think the decision has been made to play tighter and to try and ensure points are won and, to be fair, they have been. Whether that's enough to usurp City is a different kettle of fish though. We've already been to Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs away though and hosted City so a lot of the toughest games of the season already played (and yet to beaten) so who knows - I think it's too early to say. Initial signs are positive (results wise) and I think any comparison with City is redundant - it may well be that our solid play is what yields the biggest rewards come the end of the season. Our form versus the so called lesser teams this season is already testament to the improvements made.

{Ed0333's Note - great post Seano. Yes the pragmatic football were playing currently is not gonna turn anyone on but we’re still in touch with City which is the fundamental issue in a title race. As I keep saying we’re still there or thereabouts without playing well. There’s nothing to suggest the press won’t come back? There’s nothing to suggest Fab and Keita won’t come good and there’s nothing to suggest we won’t buy in January. Your correct in your musings and I also echo your thoughts about getting some tough away games out of the way. It’s a long, hard grueling season which has just got going.

3.) 04 Nov 2018 16:27:32
We are playing to our potential except we have changed changed our style which was our weapon. We WERE a counter pressing team that transforms defense to attack in the blink of an eye and attack with pace.
Nothing to do with our potential. We are not build to play this pragmatic crap!
Kieta was playing in a counter attacking set up at RBL. We don’t have technical players to play possession football.
You ll come to know later mate.

The front three works on solid press and countering it with pace which is why Pep said the other day that Liverpool are the best team in transition from defense to attack.
It’s shame we don’t play that way and listened to a sports doctor who advised klopp to change the tactic.

Firmino was pivot to our press so was Milner and Hendo. If you don’t press they become ineffective.

{Ed0333's Note - we cant Geggenpress for a full season it’s physically not possible.

4.) 04 Nov 2018 16:28:40
I know mate but think we should remember the days of Brian Tinnion and such.
We are now respected in World football again and can attract massive world class players if we like and have a stadium to be proud off and owners and manager as well
And to cap it all off a team we can proudly support expecting to win and not just hoping.
for me I happy as yesterday we drew but you can't win em all mate but definitely understand where your coming from.

{Ed0333's Note - hey junior you hit the nail on the head we’re expecting this team to win all games now and that’s the distinction between last season and this. Really liked your post mate. In the general scheme of things were golden yet still doesn’t stop the hurt of yesterday.

5.) 04 Nov 2018 16:40:00
cheers mate
just trying to cheers you all up lol.

6.) 04 Nov 2018 16:44:07
Don’t really see this whole “purposely not pressing etc”, it’s not like we are preserving energy, we still covered way mote ground yesterday (especially front 3). Surely we just aren’t playing well?

7.) 04 Nov 2018 16:48:09
I'm just waiting for the front 3 to remember how to pass the ball, especially when in 2v2 and 3v3 situations. That's when we'll become explosive again.

8.) 04 Nov 2018 17:33:31
Absolutely crazy to write us off. 2 points off the top with 3/ 4 of the games still to play. City and Chelsea both played arsenal in the very early days of their new era. I have a feeling the results would be different if they played them now.

Wigan beat the unbeatable City last year so in theory they can lose to any team. It was city who employed the negative game plan when they faced us not the other way around. City still have to play a lot of top teams before this title is settled.

Arsenal were good, I had a feeling they would be this year. But it wasn't harder than napoli away.

What about van dijke! Oh my god, I knew he was good but he was phenomenal. BTW we were away, at an on form team. City were the danger and it may come down to the game st the etihad but I don't think it will.

9.) 04 Nov 2018 20:35:43
I said in the match chat after the game that if we could pass with any accuracy we would have won easily yesterday. Same goes for most of the games we've played so far. The amount of chances we've wasted with a poor final ball is criminal.

Realtofel makes a good point which I agree with fully. The front 3 are trying to do it on their own too much and ignore an easy pass when it's on. If I had any hair it'd all be pulled out by now!

10.) 04 Nov 2018 21:58:19
Ed0333, I feel your frustration and I am as frustrated as anyone out there. We created enough chances to win the game as you say even tho, we were not very good in midfield. Klopp had to play the hand he was dealt and Keita and Hendo esp., would have been great in such a frantic atmosphere and it did not work esp. in the first half.

As for the press, I don't think we even press that much anymore even tho, you can see it in stages (see Red Star) . I also agree that the front three are not clicking as well as they can in terms of decision-making, pass accuracy and finishing. However, the good thing is that we are still creating enuff chances to win almost every game we play (bar Napoli or City) and we are still winning in spite of them not clicking fully.

We just have to keep working and getting better is all I can say right now. We move on to the CL now for a massive away tie and it is a must win game if we want to have any chance of getting out of the group. Cheers, man.

{Ed0333's Note - I cant disagree with any of that mate. Clearly we’re playing a different rhythm and dynamic to what Klopp initially implemented which has been phased in stages over the last few months. The gegenpress has been purposely diluted. Also Klopp isn’t adverse to changing the system within a match. As you say the delicious positive is that our pragmatic play is still yielding enough chances per game to win matches which is heartening. Can you imagine when and if the front 3 click and Fab and Keita step up what a frightening prospect.

11.) 04 Nov 2018 22:34:32
Ed0033 I get we can’t genepress all season. But we are nearly 25% through the prem games. How much of the season can a team do it? I think against the likes of top 6 sides we should genepress as minimum. This league will be won on the head to heads of the top 6 and so far we’ve not turned up to the big games imo.

{Ed0333's Note - I think it will come back but on an adhoc basis but only when needed.

12.) 05 Nov 2018 14:13:20
We have just passed the quarter way mark, and people are writing off the season already? I expect it from Harry, but come on. Have some patience. We play Man City on 3rd January 2019. By the end of that game we'll know a lot more than we know now. And Pep is Pep but his teams are not teflon coated. They do wilt from time to time.

13.) 05 Nov 2018 15:03:16
Jordz, we've not turned up in the big games? Er, we are undefeated vs every big team we have played and took 5 points from Arsenal (One point and I agree, should have been 3), Chelsea (One point and again, created enough to win) and Spurs (all 3 points) . If you are going to criticize the team at least, use correct facts and numbers to support it.

ArAy,
I am a Chelsea supporter. Now that is clear I can now act slightly biased towards their players. 👍. That will put an end to all the doubts.

Bobby,
I love Kovacic. I loved his time at inter. The move to real came too soon for him imo. He regressed over there. But he is still a good player according to me. He is technically very good ( He might flop at Chelsea ) but I doubt that would change my opinion about the player.

I like Sarri. Most of it came from the days at Napoli. I thought he did an excellent job over there. Plays a very good football. A very hard working manager who made it to the top by sheer hard work. Turned an average winger to a goal scoring machine and many things. Where did I say he is crap. I don’t remember calling Sarri a crap.

I have seen every man on this page calling out for signing Kante given a chance and where would they play him?
In front of the defence? Which is already occupied by fan fav Hendo / Klopp fav Wiji / New boy Fabinho?

He lost his place to Jorginho. He can’t play on the right, can’t play on the left. Can’t score. He is no KDB, Silva or Coutinho to link in between midfield and attack.

I am stunned Liverpool fans want another No.6. You have three already, don’t you?

#Talkfootballplease.

Ayray
I am not in love with Chelsea/ City/ Ajax or Bayer Leverkusen mate. I am in love with FOOTBALL and football has no religion or color

The thread was about Deep lying playmakers and their roles which I have expressed my opinion at the best of my knowledge.

I don’t phrase my opinion based on clubs. I think I have said this from day one. My first football crush was Romario and he never played for any of those clubs I mentioned above.

I can understand people cannot handle other players here but trust me I can only say what I know, if you ask me about ten best deep lying playmakers then I could easily name them I simply don’t look at their badges or color of the shirt.

I am not from Liverpool, you might be from there. I chose the club like millions who are outside the UK. I could have chosen another club and I would still behave the same way like now.

To make you and a few happy, The best player ever to play the deeper role is Xabi Alonso. Fortunately he had a brief spell at Liverpool, a very good spell for Real and small yet effective spell at Bayern.

I can name 10 dross at Chelsea / City / UTD and Arsenal 😆. It’s very easy for me.

Nailed it Realtofel.

Kante is a destroyer and some people make him look like an Alonso and Kroos. Kante can’t do that which is why Jorginho is playing there. Sarri is no fool.

What did Kante do yesterday? He is the superhuman of all the footballing gods and he was abysmal when played out of his comfort zone. How many goals would he score? The most complete center midfielder would score less than Henderson and Wijnaldum.

If you think Chelsea is all about Kante then you got no idea of how they play. Sarri never played a DM. He had one at Napoli and was on the bench all his tenure. Instead he had two geniuses alongside Jorginho in Hamsik and Allan. Chelsea doesn’t have those two. End of

Chelsea lack goals which is their big issue not conceding goals. Sarri unlike others plays expansive football and play very high which will always result in conceding goals.

Kante is there to stop an attack while Jorginho is there to launch an attack and when Sarri eventually pair them they will have the midfield.

Need an honest answer.

Can someone tell me why we changed the system that was working well and suited for all the players that we signed/ trained over the last 3 years?

A manager is known for his style and Klopp’s greatest contribution to football are Lewandowski and Press. Now he has taken out the soul from the team.

If klopp wanted to implement a new style why did he not sign players that suit his style (I don’t even know what style are we playing except we are not a pressing team anymore and are still relying heavily on Salah to score goals)

Baffles me when people say it’s a new style! It takes years for a team to understand a new style let alone play it. Firmino was the press in our system and with this new style we are playing he has become a headless chicken ( poor lad ) He starts the press and bring the two wide man into the game / space he vacates! When he doesn’t press he doesn’t do anything else!

Never understood why people believe attacking means sacrificing defending! That’s bull! Attacking means just attacking. Defending means defending. Your could always attack and still not concede. There were games where we won 4-0, 4-1, 5-0 and I saw nobody talking about any style change!

Last year we conceded coz we had Mignolet at the back with Lovren and Klavan ahead of him! Despite of buying a GK worth £70 mill ( who is an excellent sweeper ) and a CB worth £75 mill ( probably the best in the league and one of the best passer of the ball) if you still think we have to be extremely careful not to concede then we bought poor players!

Mark is right! We do not have skillfull players to play the possession football! Period! Our midfielders are workhorse and ball winners who is suited to counter press and release it and not to keep it under pressure and tight areas. Please go and watch!

If you really think we have iniesta and Silva at the club to keep the ball under intense pressure and not to lose them then you are all in dreamland! We have Wijnaldum and Milner who are not good in doing that! Do you all get it?

I know we are only 2 behind city but we are only 1 ahead of Chelsea and 3 ahead of Arsenal lol! A defeat against Watford / Everton and we are back to same old discussion!
