Hi Fellow Reds and Ed's

I have been looking through the pre-season fixtures for the Red Men.
There are 4 games scheduled(2 in Asia and 2 in Australia) according to the Liverpool Site.

Do you perhaps know if there are any more pre-season fixtures being negotiated and where that might be?

Many Thanks

Faizal

Hi Eds and Reds,

Firstly, great start to the season, Stoke are tough opposition and we managed to get the result. Personally I think it could have been at least 3-0 if Begovic hadn't played a blinder.

Now on to my question for the Eds. What's the latest on Iker Muniain? Any clubs have an interest in him? Is he looking for a move? Are Bilbao looking to sell him? Are Liverpool still watching him?

Thanks,
Faizal {Ed002's Note - There is nothing new. Muniain was touted around the clubs on behalf of Bilbao in January 2012 - and the two clubs in England that were approached were Chelsea and Manchester United. The asking price was 40M euros which is related to the buy-out clause that exists for Iberian clubs. They won't get it because I don't think clubs would risk half of that on a player who is young and has had some off field issues. If the price comes down to a reasonable level (20M euros might be an acceptable figure) I can see interest from several English clubs should be become available. Lyon, Bayern Munich, Napoli and Roma have sustained interest which may still be there but I could not see a cash deal involving Lyon as possible at this time. Rumours abound of Juventus and Palermo interest. It was thought an eventual move to Barcelona would happen, although his performances this past season have not been good at all and his temper has gotten the better of him again on more than one occasion. With his value dropping all of the time Athletic might well look to extending his contract.}

Hi Fellow Reds,

Not in the know at all, but judging by the rumours flying around that Liverpool have made a bid for Costa from Atletico Madrid, one can't help but feel that this is the first REAL sign from LFC that Suarez is on his way.
Shades of when we bought Suarez to "play alongside" Torres.
Just my opinion(not claiming to know anyone involved). Don't slate me for it - seems that's what this site has become more about these days.

Thanks,
Faizal

Hi All,

Question for the ED's and the rest.

In Lallana, Coutinho and Firmino we have real creativity, however they all have the instinct to come in field and attack the center.

With the signing of Mane, I believe Klopp wants Liverpool to play with more natural width next season, and get round the back of teams. He will bring a great balance to the attack and we will not be as one dimensional.

So my question is, do you think a player like Benteke may well thrive in a team playing with real pace out wide? Or, do you guys think he is not good enough and must be sold?

Personally, I think we have not seen the best of Benteke yet, and I think he could offer a certain something in this season.

Thanks,
Faizal.

I'd rather have Origi upfront for that, he has the height and physicality but also provides movement. There were many times Milner out in a great cross with Benteke on his heels and still outside the box.

2.) 30 Jun 2016 14:04:47
Problem with Benteke last season was almost every time the ball went wide to be crossed he immediately reversed to the edge of the box looking for a pull back. Drove me nuts watching him do it time after time. He should have been pumping into the small box for the cross and leaving room behind him for attacking midfielders.

3.) 30 Jun 2016 14:14:58
Benteke would thrive, besides, he would give us an ace in the hole for changing the game or stretching legs in the last quarter of the game.

Hi Eds and Reds,

I have a question regarding 'tapping up'.
There has been a lot made about tapping up players on this site in recent times.
I would like to have something cleared up by the Eds, if possible, is it only considered tapping up if a club representative contacts a player directly?
If for example, a club representative were to contact a players agent without first contacting the players current club, is that also considered tapping up?
I can see various scenarios (could be way off from what really happens), where it would be possible for clubs to contact agents before clubs.

Now on to my ridiculous question regarding names being brandished in every newspaper.
The latest name in today's instalment, is Fenerbache's Nani.
Will he be moving, and if so, where to? Fee is said to be 8.5m euro.
I hear Everton might be an option, and some are even reporting interest from Liverpool.

It would be interesting to know if there have been many players who have played for both Liverpool and Man Utd.
I know of Ince and Owen. Anyone else?

Thanks.

Faizal

{Ed002's Note - It is a direct approach to the player by a club that is the issue. Clubs and agents talk all of the time. I am not aware of any approach by Liverpool for Nani at this time.

There have only been (as I recall) nine direct transfers between the clubs and none in the past 50 years or so. There is Beardsley to add to your list and no doubt other will give you all of the details.}

Hi Guys,

I know John Flanagan is a RB, but does anyone think he could do the job at LB, If not, how do you see Flanno's career progressing at Liverpool?

I think he would find it very difficult to get regular game time at RB competing with Clyne.

I think Klopp needs to manage the LB spot very carefully, Moreno can contribute against teams that sit back, however Flanno may be better suited to the bigger games where we need to stay solid at the back.

Thanks.

Faizal

{Ed023's Note - Flanagan did play there in the '13/2014 season when we came 2nd and he did a good job there.}

1.) 24 May 2016 13:23:44
I'd let him compete with Clyne.

Better to sign an actual left back. Moreno was never good enough and Smith has had to wait too long to get his chance.

Chilwell and Hector would do me.

2.) 24 May 2016 13:58:05
Would prefer him at lb to Moreno, but hopefully getting a lb in so if he can get back to his best would have him as our main rb.

Clyne and Moreno don't provide an awful lot going forward so would rather two fullbacks that are better at defending.

3.) 24 May 2016 14:37:56
Flanno RB
Clyne LB.

4.) 24 May 2016 14:40:16
Don't see why hhe can't cover and compete for both sides.

5.) 24 May 2016 15:48:17
Honestly, I don't think he is good enough to start for LFC, at LB or RB.

6.) 24 May 2016 14:08:08
MK, what makes you think Chilwell is better Smith? Smith at least had 1st team experience, chilwell?

7.) 24 May 2016 14:31:02
Hector for me as he can actually defend. Reminds me of Babbel in that sense.

8.) 24 May 2016 17:41:54
No point knocking Chilwell so early on. Just wait and see what happens on the pitch. Do remember that we have seen young players (like Stewart) slot in very well without first team appearances.

9.) 24 May 2016 23:42:12
Smith needs to go learn how to defend first and we'll talk then. Till then, I'll take Hector and drive Moreno out to the airport myself.

10.) 24 May 2016 17:13:35
I can't believe people calling the club to sign 2 LB with smith signing an extension recently. How dumb people could be? No wonder we have 10 players on each positions. What did we learn from the previous regime Adam and others?

Hi Eds and Reds,

Gutted about losing that Final, but let's look towards the new season.

I would like to pose a few question to the Eds and Fellow Users.

Who do you see as a dead ball specialist in the current group of players?

Who do you see as a dead ball specialist who could potentially join the squad?

I know Ronaldo, Messi, Suarez, Neymar etc. are great dead ball specialists - Are there any players you know of that are not of that 'superstar' status (yet) .

Ever since Ronaldo left the Premier League, there hasn't really been that guy who you knew was going to hit the net from 25-35 yards out.

Please don't hate, this isn't a rumor, just wanna hear what the fellow fans think.

Thanks.

Faizal

1.) 23 May 2016 17:38:26
Payet.

2.) 23 May 2016 17:50:46
Calhanoglu? I'd bet you Juninho Pernambucano could still take a better freekick than most as well even if he has been retired for a while.

3.) 23 May 2016 18:12:46
We need to sign a set piece specialist in the summer, whether that comes as a left back, holding mid, attacking mid or winger, we need someone who can take good set pieces. Not just direct free kicks but long range and corners.

Set pieces are so important in football as they can create goals against the run of play and out of nowhere, turning games on their head and swaying the momentum in tight matches. They can literally be the difference between glory and defeat, any top team will tell you that.

I'm sick and tired of us not putting enough emphasis on them, both attacking and defending, and i'm sick of seeing teams trounce us with scabby goald from set pieces without us being able to do the same. We'll never be a top team unless we can find an extra 15 goals from set pieces per season.

4.) 23 May 2016 18:15:46
The best in the EPl currently has to be Dimitri Payet. Almost Brazilian with his free kicks. And has a better success rate with crosses than Ozil. Would make sense to replace Lallana with him, instead of going for Gotze, particularly if Benteke is staying.

5.) 23 May 2016 19:45:07
Too old for the ££££ would he come he seems finally happy at west ham and the old attitude problems there's a reason some of these players are got cheep by smaller clubs.

Hi Everyone,

Papers full of Suarez Out Stories today.

I believe Ed002 is correct and unfortunately Luis Suarez is going to be transferred to one of the Spanish Giants.
I consider this to be a massive blow, and while I will fully get behind the manager and the replacement he brings in, I don't think we will be able to challenge as we did last season without Suarez.
That's one possibility.
On the other hand, if Sanchez is the replacement and Rogers uses the money to tighten the defence, then we may not be the same attacking force we were last season, but could still be successful.
As Kenny would say, We want players here that want to be here.

Can anyone please advise if GW possesses any great Free Kick taking abilities?
I really hope he does as this is one quality that is really lacking across the squad.

Also, I do believe that fans (who have actually watched a player over the course of a season) are entitled to an opinion on that player.

Hi Guys,

Feeling a bit tentative to weigh in on this Sadio Mane deal, as I understand from reading the posts, there are lots of fans who are against this signing at the quoted price.

Here's my view, I choose to look at Mane as the replacement for Sterling.
Now I know people will say, Firmino was brought in when Sterling left, but I see Firmino as a different type of player, closer to the Gerrard mould than Sterling.

The question we should be asking ourselves is, Who would you prefer in the team, Sterling or Mane? I know everyone will say Mane, he has a much better record, a hunger for goals and a better end product than Sterling.

Thanks.

Coutinho will be a major loss if he were to leave.
To all who say get 50 mil and re-invest, its never that simple.
A settled player who is performing is worth more than bringing someone in who may or may not hit the ground running.
Let me put it this way. if coutinho was still at Inter and we were linked with him, considering his recent performances for Brazil, everyone would be saying sign him up.
