6 days to go!

On the 16th of June our Facebook page will go live to a charity match the site has organised, in aid of Seva and Macmillan nurses.
It will be a 3pm kick off!
Please share and like our page to support the boys taking part. We have one crowdfunded page on justgiving that raised £300 before prematurely ending so stay tuned for a new one setting up. We are hopeful to raise £1000 with this and the players match fees.

This is also the last call for anyone else who wants to play in the game held in north oxfordshire. Current players range from all abilities and ages! So do not feel you cannot contribute.

Text me on 07719565417 for more info!

Will ed001's "Just like watching brazil" better ed002's "Walham green east wapping, carpet cleaning rodent and boggit exterminating association"....FC?

Who is your money on?!

Ed001

1.) 10 Jun 2018 21:47:19
Every time I see posts about this I kick myself because I lived in Oxfordshire but moved to Liverpool last year ;_;
Would have loved to play after work but would never make it there in time now xD

Good luck to everybody participating and ed2s players repeating that name haha.

2.) 10 Jun 2018 22:30:30
Going to be a struggle carving that name onto a trophy haha
Happy to donate and looking forward to watching the live stream.

3.) 10 Jun 2018 23:36:30
Would love to have made it from Ireland. Well done to all involved as it's for a great cause. Enjoy the day and be proud.

4.) 10 Jun 2018 23:41:46
How are you going to fit that team name on a jersey?

5.) 11 Jun 2018 01:37:23
I’m gutted, I was going to play and had it tied to when I was back in the uk ( I live in aus) my trip moved numerous times. I’ll be back in time but pulled a hamstring 2 weeks ago so can’t play regardless!

6.) 11 Jun 2018 06:26:45
Would have loved to play and show off my silky skills but unfortunately I won't be able to make it this time. If successful maybe we could make this an annual thing?

7.) 11 Jun 2018 18:09:13
Any chance to do some commentary from India, Ed001? xD.

Having spoken to the person who has been keeping me informed on this, to get clarity, I think it is time I gave the full explanation of what I am now being told. I am going to refer to the person as he/ him, just because it is easier rather than because it is a male.

So I have pestered him, because I wanted some clarification of the full story and to know if I am being deliberately fed misinformation to keep the club out of trouble. He claims that he is telling me exactly what he has been told, that there is no attempt to mislead me on his behalf, either knowingly or unknowingly. So this is basically the story as he gives it:

After matches Klopp will often chat with opposition players, just a friendly chat, nothing untoward, many managers will do it.

However, remarks were made to VVD along the lines of 'I would love to have you in my team' or similar when we have faced Southampton. Which VVD has obviously taken to heart, though we have no way of knowing if Klopp was making the first moves towards a signing or just making a throwaway remark regarding the player. So that could be seen as a problem in the light of following events, though would normally not even be noticed.

Anyway, last summer things were a bit unsettled there with Jose Fonte fighting to leave and it caused a few issues with a number of the players there, who felt Fonte was unfairly treated after his years of service to the club. There are a number of players there who did not like the treatment Fonte received and felt he should have been allowed to make his dream move, rather than held to his contract and then ended up in limbo before joining West Ham United just to get away from Saints. VVD has at this point made the decision he wants to go and asked his agent to put out feelers looking for interested parties.

We showed interest at this point, I don't have dates, I have never had any kind of dates to give, which is why I have never mentioned any, but I would assume this is just after the January window, as this was when he was disgruntled. However, instead of going direct to the club and seeking permission to speak to them and him over a summer move, we spoke directly to the agent.

Now our excuse, which is why I am told the club immediately backed out and apologised, is that we were told the agent and player came to us with Saints' blessing. I will leave you to make up your own mind over the truth of that claim, as I really do not know. I have no way to verify that information one way or the other.

To cut a long story short, the player, agent and club sorted out a deal, then and only then do LFC go to Saints to negotiate a price. That is when all hell broke loose and Soton investigated, made a complaint etc.

That is how he explained it to me, but I have no way to verify any of it, which is why I am giving you a full version as he tells it. In the past he has been reliable, though he has often asked me not to pass on things, the info he has given had checked out. This time I am not sure though, this feels too neat and like someone is trying to shift the blame. Either way the club is at fault for not ensuring they had permission to speak to the player.

Ed001

1.) 08 Jun 2017 06:43:11
Make you right ed001 with it sounding to contrived but it does not mean what he has said is not the truth. Like you say it's not difficult to follow the correct way of approaching a transfer a club either says yes or no what is the problem. Baffling really still men in suits are never the smartest.
Up the pool.

{Ed001's Note - I just don't understand why the club still has this issue. We do not need to act underhand, the club is, in terms of brand power, according to those that measure these things, ahead of all but Man Utd in English football. We should not need to be underhand to attract quality players. They should want to play for us because of who we are. So just concentrate on getting the right deal with their current club, then worry about convincing the player.}

2.) 08 Jun 2017 06:48:37
Qyestion for the Eds, not just about this event. What is the situation regarding speaking to agents. As i understand it agents put feelers out to other clubs and that is ok. In those circumstances i assume it is ok for a club to speak to the agent. If that has happened can the club contact the agent again for further discussions? Is it a case of the player basically can't be in the room with them? Or more complicated, e. g. you can't talk beyond a certain point even with the agent? Thanks.

{Ed025's Note - if a club wish to talk to a player who is under contract at a club then they must inform the parent club for permission DL, anything less is seen as "tapping up" even if its done through the agent mate..

3.) 08 Jun 2017 06:55:11
Shame Ed, at the very least I hope the club learn a lesson, I think we're sailing very close to the wind with our transfer activity.

4.) 08 Jun 2017 07:00:49
Thanks Ed025.

{Ed025's Note - anytime mate..

5.) 08 Jun 2017 07:05:44
Its the premier league response that intreagues me. Would it not be the case that if they thought we were genuinely guilty of wrong doing on purpose then just an apology from us would be irrelevant?

{Ed025's Note - i must say that you make a fair point slowdog, maybe we have not heard the last of it yet mate..

6.) 08 Jun 2017 07:15:27
We have read news that VVD agent also spoke to Conte and Pep; that would have constituted tapping too right?

{Ed001's Note - no, you are missing the point, the intermediary can speak to others, it is the player himself that is unable to discuss things.}

7.) 08 Jun 2017 07:17:07
Do you think this is the end of the saga with LFC and VVD ed?

{Ed001's Note - depends on what Saints think. If they are satisfied with the apology and us backing away, then yes. Though a lot comes down to VVD himself as well.}

8.) 08 Jun 2017 07:31:15
If Saints had any decency, they'd accept the apology and move on. Liverpool acted underhandedly but, judging from ed001's post, not in a deliberate way. It's not like the club had been scheming to prevent a bidding war that Southampton were entitled to.

9.) 08 Jun 2017 07:30:15
Thank you for letting us know the situation ED001, we appreciate it!

I was on these pages when the whole Clint Dempsey saga happened and it's beyond belief that the club can act in such a amateurish fashion! Or is it arrogance on the clubs part?

Considering how many times we have dealt with Southampton over the past few years makes this surprising as well as irritating to say the least!

Again, thanks for keeping us in the loop Ed.

{Ed001's Note - it feels like arrogance to me, believing they can do what they want with no consequence.}

10.) 08 Jun 2017 07:35:05
Hey ED001. Is the extent to which the VVD deal played out in the media seen as a massive issue by the club? I know this doesn't excuse the club's behaviour but the extent to which transfer info is leaked is quite extraordinary. Similarly a lot has been written bout the Salah deal. Can the club not conduct business in a private professional manner, or is it just the case that this not easily done in modern football? Thanks Ed.

{Ed001's Note - it is always a concern, the club put a lot of effort into keeping things quiet in the past, hence the Jen Chang thing. Now it has gone back to the old flood of info coming out. It is not easy to keep things quiet, but it certainly should not be coming out in the amounts LFC are producing it.}

11.) 08 Jun 2017 07:35:11
eds i know this is an outrageous idea/ thought, but truth be known the window don't open until july between now and then the saints accept the apology after believing because of the blame game as you said, that the tapping up was accidentally stupid, could liverpool get the deal sorted and pay more as in a way to save face or is it just a stupid thought.

{Ed001's Note - it could happen and has happened in the past. The likelihood is that we will not pay the price regardless.}

12.) 08 Jun 2017 07:37:52
Nice one ed.

{Ed001's Note - welcome and RITH is wrong. The whole point of speaking to a player is to cut out the whole auction aspect of transfers by ensuring you get the best price with the player only wanting to join you.

As for Saints, they have done nothing wrong and RITH is just showing how bitter he is by constantly deflecting and blaming the victim.}

13.) 08 Jun 2017 07:57:21
Thanks for the info Ed. Legend.

{Ed001's Note - welcome.}

14.) 08 Jun 2017 08:03:54
Ed 1 - you make some great points here. We were discussing it in the pub last night and I think the consensus of opinion was that tapping up players has always gone on and always will to some degree. It is maybe a bit easier to hide behind agents and third parties these days than it was years ago but I think even an indirect approach - I. e. To an agent is tapping up. I know clubs often give players agents approval or even instructions to find a new club for a player maybe even with guidelines as to what a sell price may be. More often than not all of the above happens in secret.

You make a very good point that too much information seems to be leaked out of LFC and whilst it seems clear that the club has acted beyond what can be excusable (I. e. A sounding out of an agent etc. ) and especially with meeting the player directly, the leaks to the press in my view is what has really caused the most problems.

I hope there is a full investigation internally and these internal problems are fixed now or we could have a long summer of problems in the transfer market.

{Ed001's Note - not just a long summer, it will be the same every transfer window until we fix the internal problems.}

15.) 08 Jun 2017 08:10:12
Is there any suggestion that there will be any internal disciplinary actions taken by the club towards any LFC staff involved in the transfer Ed001? Do you think the VVD events will see Liverpool changing their approach to transfers and lack of professionalism? If nothing changes or there isn't an acceptance that change is needed then that would really stink of arrogance.

{Ed001's Note - the first thing that will happen is likely to be an internal investigation to examine what went on, what the club did wrong and what the club did right. That analysis will have to lead to changes or this summer will be nothing compared to how bad things will get for the club in the future.}

16.) 08 Jun 2017 08:15:14
It's all just so distasteful. Look at what Lukaku is doing to them across the park. Young men who get paid millions to play a sport they love and show this kind of disrespect to their employers. Regardless of whether Liverpool's conduct was really dodgy or just downright dumb, I really do not like to see these spoiled players showing such an extreme lack of loyalty to the shirt and fans they represent. If I wanted to leave my job and go to a bigger company, I would have the decency to go to my boss and tell him to his face. Of course, I don't have a greedy agent trying to drum up a sale to line his own fat palm with silver.

17.) 08 Jun 2017 08:15:37
What does this mean for the player himself ed001? Is he also facing the prospect of a ban? Maybe not by his parent club who might not be able to afford it, but by the governing body.?

{Ed001's Note - it is unlikely to lead to any kind of ban for the player. His issue is that the club themselves could freeze him out and leave him in limbo and his chance to get a big move could go.}

18.) 08 Jun 2017 08:32:25
We appreciate you sharing your info ed, as you have already hinted i think this is standard practice for the americans and i can't see any follow up action apart from a public telling off and a private don't get caught next time.

With regards to vvd we were always going to get our pants pulled down over this deal so maybe its the best outcome overall aside from the massive embarassment.

Moving forward through this window at any rate we must do it correct though because i shudder to think what punishment the club will get if its caught doing the same thing twice in the same window.

Do you think this will have any bearing on players we are targeting not wanting to come considering we have left vvd high and dry?

{Ed001's Note - it is common practice in business in general, end justifies the means for most companies.

That is a good point you raise, other players are going to be wary of dealing with us, if we leave VVD high and dry now.}

19.) 08 Jun 2017 08:32:27
Cheers Ed001. We've not covered ourselves in glory here at all, shambolic behaviour and unprofessionalism is what is smacks of.

20.) 08 Jun 2017 08:42:11
So just reiterating what has been in the press.

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea. I do not read the press.}

21.) 08 Jun 2017 08:44:32
Thank you for the swift response Ed. Much appreciated mate. And thank you for all the hard work! This promises to be a window like no other for you guys! All the best :) .

{Ed001's Note - not sure it is like no other. This seems to have become a recurring theme.}

22.) 08 Jun 2017 09:11:00
Thanks eds for the info. Really appreciate your time forwarding your knowledge on this situation.

23.) 08 Jun 2017 09:30:25
Agree with Max, thanks Ed, appreciate you sharing the info.

{Ed001's Note - cheers Lj.}

24.) 08 Jun 2017 10:25:18
Thanks Eds for the in depth post, we all appreciate it on here, we'd all be clueless if it wasn't for you lot.

{Ed001's Note - thank you mate.}

25.) 08 Jun 2017 11:52:37
Thanks for the info Ed's, but I have to ask, why is it so hard to do it properly, whether the agent instigated it or not? Even if the agent said that the player is doing it with his club's blessing, how hard is it to confirm that with the club? Something is really wrong somewhere within the club and it's not rocket science how it can be fixed!

{Ed001's Note - it is not that hard at all.}

26.) 08 Jun 2017 12:10:38
Ed is part of the problem that the powers of be just aren't from football background? Is it just simple naivity from people that don't know? Most if not all of our top brass are from everywhere BUT football. Is it just me being naive?

{Ed001's Note - very few clubs have top brass from a footballing background.}

27.) 08 Jun 2017 12:11:08
What was Fonte's dream move ED001?

{Ed001's Note - to play for Mourinho.}

28.) 09 Jun 2017 13:45:14
Ed001, Good of you to give us the detail, but I don't think you have to explain things. Everyone said this was going to happen, but then it turned out we built the house on sand, so things fell apart.

You guys run a really interesting site, and try to give us interesting insights. Sometimes things will go pear shaped. doesn't change things, you are giving us your honest (sometimes very honest) view on things. If it was called Liverpool-transfer-facts. co. uk, then that would be different, but I for one enjoy the site, and appreciate you guys giving us the insights that you do (although sometimes I cringe from the tongue lashings delivered :-) ) . If you will forgive me, part of the fun of this site is just like buying the euro millions ticket. the 2 days dreaming about what it would be like if Messi signed brings a smile and some joy, even if the reality is, it is never going to happen. BTW . any chance of Messi :-)

On a different note, I find it really hard to fathom how we can get ourselves into these situations. I have nothing to do with football, but I know you need permission from the other club before you speak to the player. I know from life, that if a middle man says "trust me this is all legit", then that is when you run for the hills. SO, this is either supreme arrogance (which I would hate for my football club, but I accept it is possible), or supreme naivete. I am not sure which is worse.

Thanks for all you guys do, I am looking forward to my near hourly visits to the site during the window!

08 Mar 2015 18:12:53
So what do you think will happen in the summer then Ed002?

Ed001

{Ed002's Note - Much of this will change by the summer and there are major dependencies on (a) players leaving (b) how much money the club can raise through sales (remembering that Liverpool will be probably be looking to sell players by January to offset FFP issues), and (c) Champions League qualification. However, there is known to be (or have recently been) some level of interest in the following players:

GK: Ochoa, Neto, Sportiello (unconfirmed at this time), Romero, Ryan, Ruddy. The club have also looked at many others.
RB: Danilo (certainly won't happen). I am not sure what will happen to Wisdom. I suspect a new deal for Flanagan but if Manquillo and Johnson both leave then the club will look for a new RB. If Rodgers remains as manager it is not out of the question that Ibe may be tried in a wing back role. Alternative is that MAnquillo stays and RB is no longer a priority.
CB: I suspect a new deal will be offered to Toure and the club will have to have a clear out of CBs in any case. I doubt a CB is a priority.
MF: Milner, Khedira, Pjanic (outrageously expensive), Vazquez
F/W: Ings, Vietto, Gameiro, Baez (a WP would be an issue initially), Kishna (I understand that old interest has been rekindled but it is hard to see how he would fit in), Lacazette (not going to happen). Two other players the club were interested in - Bakkali (I suspect Liverpool have stepped back from their interest like many other clubs) and Andre Ayew (a free agent who Liverpool enquired about last summer - no obvious interest right now but it may return).

If Liverpool do qualify for the Champions League and if further funds can be made available through sales, it would not be out of the question for Liverpool to look to one of the following as an option:

GK: Cech
MF: Carvalho, Turan
F/W: Benzema

And who would be my choice of players who will be available?

GK: Handanovic
RB: Germain
CB: Balanta - Caniggia wanted Liverpool to move for Balanta more than two years ago - and he has got better. Rogers ignored the advice. He shouldn't have done. If Liverpool need a CB
MF: Matuidi, Morgan Sanson
F/W: Mitrovic - I don't see a long term future for Lambert and Mitrovic would give Liverpool a very good option that they are missing right now. Rodgers will regret using the words "Origi" and "world-class" in the same sentence. }

1.) 08 Mar 2015 19:06:20
Interesting read, thanks Eds.

2.) 08 Mar 2015 22:03:31
Great work, eds. This is what this site is all about, just a shame it gets hindered by the trolls from time to time!

Cheers,

3.) 09 Mar 2015 00:27:59
Realistically we're only looking to add one in each position right, Eds? So say we signed Ings, Vietto would then be out of the question?

I'd love Khedira but worry about his injury record so can't see FSG taking such a risk.
Would the signings of Romero, Milner, Ings and possibly a battle for Carvalho if we make top 4 seem like a realistic scenario come the summer Eds?

{Ed002's Note - I have explained the situation as I understand it. I cannot sensibly answer questions about different combinations of the players.}

4.) 09 Mar 2015 02:53:55
Thanks a lot ed fot that reply

5.) 09 Mar 2015 07:21:48
Brilliant work Ed001, seducing Ed002 to spill the beans. Was it that "humongous" backside that did the trick?

Also, which Vazquez and Germain are these?

{Ed002's Note - Lucas and it should be Matteo Darmain.}

6.) 09 Mar 2015 07:22:06
Taking into account our finances I completely agree with your choises Ed002 (with exception of Sanson who I haven't seen enough). I will add Luis Adriano to forward list.

{Ed002's Note - I am a little surprised that there is no firm interest from Liverpool, AC Milan or Arsenal in Adriano at this time. It should be Darmain not Germain.}

7.) 09 Mar 2015 07:22:22
great post Ed002. i would like to know if we are really interested in morgan sanson of montpellier? i watched montpellier games few times and he looked a class midfielder and ran the show. i think he will be perfect for liverpool.

{Ed002's Note - No, he would be my choice of player from who will be available.}

8.) 09 Mar 2015 04:28:55
Brilliant views Ed002 thanks!. saves endless questions about targets!, but what about ED001? Care to add anything?

{Ed001's Note - not a lot to add to that, I do believe we have decided against Ryan, despite his agent's best efforts to get him a move, he simply is not good enough for the top leagues and so will probably move to a low end team in Spain or Italy.
Bakkali we were discussing on the editor's widget and I did mention to the other editors yesterday that the feeling is that he is 'difficult' and best avoided.
Turan will again be looking to join us, but I doubt we will have the finances required sadly.
Mostly it is going to be about moving players out to buy new ones, though the removal of Johnson and Gerrard does clear up any issues with the wage bill being too high. It is just that we have to avoid building up debt while the stadium is being rebuilt, so it is going to be a time to be careful with our spending. Thankfully the new TV deal will mean we can sell to buy, rather than having to sell to pay for the stadium.}

9.) 09 Mar 2015 10:12:41
Great response from Ed2 and comments from Ed.

That's what makes this site the best around.

Superb

Liverpool v Crystal Palace - A Quick Liverpool Perspective

16 Apr 2024 07:39:01
{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new article entitled, Liverpool v Crystal Palace - A Quick Liverpool Perspective

Ed001

1.) 16 Apr 2024 08:51:11
Cheers Ed01. Interesting reading, as always. I don't agree that we were more intense when we had "the kids" playing. Im not sure what kids you are referring to in particular. We've been scraping out results for a long time and this falling off a cliff has been on the cards for ages. I'm just amazed that we've stayed in the running for as long as we have.

{Ed001's Note - Danns, Clark etc. How can you not agree when it was clear?}

2.) 16 Apr 2024 09:44:41
Ed001, I also think we've lacked intensity since more of the senior players returned. I thought Bradley, Quansah and Elliott were really driving us forward at times. Konate, Gomez, Szoboszlai and Salah are making us so weak down the right side of the pitch as they're just not at it. We do miss Clark, Danns and McConnell to a lesser extent (due to less game time) but I agree they were also really on it in the cup competitions.

We need to give those 6 young lads more game time again. Along with Jones to be fair, who looks fired up after returning from injury. Konate, Gomez, Szobo and Salah probably need to be dropped now in my opinion. It's probably not a lack of effort, but more form and fitness.

{Ed001's Note - I hate to say it but Salah really hasn't looked right all season. It is hard to see how he can keep his place.}

3.) 16 Apr 2024 09:54:05
Great review Ed001. I love Klopp and he basically got us out of the horrible downward trajectory we were on before he came.

However he's looking more burnt out these days and the reliance on Pep Ls tactics has been his biggest issue in recent times. I'm sceptical we will be as good without him but perhaps it is time for a refresh and maybe Amorims tactics can get the best out of Nunez?

I have to admit I'm very gutted we aren't getting Xabi Alonso for next season but I think he's doing the right thing for his own career and has a long time left as manager.

{Ed001's Note - it does look like it is time for a refresh, much as I hate the thought of Klopp leaving. He deserves to walk away on his own terms.}

4.) 16 Apr 2024 10:20:32
Great review as usual Ed1. Its concerning that both players and Klopp himself look mentally and physically exhausted. And at the worst possible moment in the season. I do agree that the return of injured players suddenly making us a worse team than when most of our players are out injured. Its baffling really. I got really mad when Trent come in and go straight to the middle when out wide is where we needed him. Its like early season when he keep drifting inside and we struggling to beat teams.

{Ed001's Note - it is what Trent has been trained and instructed to do, but it makes little sense to me when the way to beat compact defences is to use the width and draw them out or hit the byline and cross from there where they are as likely to knock the ball into the goal as an attacker.}

5.) 16 Apr 2024 10:45:23
How many games did Danns and Clark start together? I was at the Southampton game and the scoreline flattered us.

6.) 16 Apr 2024 11:01:09
Great read, Ed. You said it all, man. For a moment during the season there (and maybe due to the enthusiasm and energy of the kids) we were pressing teams high, causing mistakes and creating chances and scoring goals (even tho, the finishing needed more work) and all was going well. Not sure while we reverted to the slow-poke type possession footie that did not work and has never worked YET we kept doing it.

Also, I and many on here have been sick of this ability of our team to spot the oppo. a goal in the first 10 mins near all season. It seemed like EVERYONE could see this as a problem long term yet the staff either could not address it or could not be arsed. Well, the issue with that is that even tho, we were rescuing games, there is only so much water in that well cos when it dries up, this is what you get.

As for Klopp, he will leave us an absolute legend and transformational manage, I have no doubt. I hate to see it end this way however, in the last 18 months or so, he is responsible for what has happened here and has to take the L for now. Will he and the players turn things around? We are about to find that out, ASAP.

7.) 16 Apr 2024 11:24:26
Ed01 who would you play on the right wing for the remainder of the season? Elliott, Szobo, Diaz?

Salah has been completely ineffective since he returned from Afcon, as have others returning from injury. Really hope Jurgen switches things up from the tried and tested (line up-wise and tactic-wise) . Won't hold my breath though.

{Ed001's Note - Szobo or Elliott would go in for now anyway, that wouldn't mean they would stay there all season, just to take Salah out. He may just need that jolt to get him going again.}}

8.) 16 Apr 2024 11:40:43
I love Endo for what he brings in certain games Ed so would it not be wise to find someone that can bring all the elements to the holding midfield role.
I mean someone with more technical ability so they can receive the ball in tight spaces.
Endo does the simple things well but when under pressure, lacks the technical ability and awareness to deal with this.

{Ed001's Note - like who?}

9.) 16 Apr 2024 11:42:14
Ed, you mention a lot about the lack of high press, high intensity. Who would be the best manager to bring those specific qualities back?

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea off the top of my head.}

10.) 16 Apr 2024 11:53:26
Good read Ed001. IMO we've had a good look at Diaz now over the past few seasons and it's obvious that the end product isn't there in the numbers we need. He's one player we should move on and replace for 24/ 25.

11.) 16 Apr 2024 12:15:04
Regrettably I think time has caught up with Salah. I think we need to move him on in the summer along with Diaz and bring in two new quality younger wide players.

12.) 16 Apr 2024 12:18:29
Klopp and pep get talked about for the tactics but what about Peter Krawietz he’s must have a say in it as well. Have all three taken there eye off the ball.

13.) 16 Apr 2024 12:37:51
At half time I said take Konate off, Endo to centre half and TAA holding.
Salah off and either Szoboszlai or Elliott to replace him. The Bradley injury wouldn't have helped but it was even worse with Sunday's team.
We had Szob and an out of sorts Salah covering the right hand side and it wasn't enough.

I still want to see Szoboszlai further forward because I'm yet to be convinced by him as an out and out midfielder. The comparisons with Gerrard are fanciful, to say the least. I agree with the review about Diaz. He just doesn't do enough for me and the number of times he loses the ball and then commits a foul is infuriating.

14.) 16 Apr 2024 12:44:15
I wouldn't have a clue Ed. Is there anyone you can think of?
I mean Fabinho was brilliant here.
I notice we are trying to play the ball around teams for an example, like a stretchy elastic band. This is fine but then we need someone to pass and break the lines, someone on the half term who can receive in tight spaces. Players are also far too static in my opinion. I like to see players play a pass and follow it, set and go again. This has happened less and less in recent games.
Its a tough watch at the minute.

{Ed001's Note - I would play Trent there personally, when Bradley is fit.}

15.) 16 Apr 2024 12:48:12
One more thing I would add is the seemingly lack of urgency.

Correct me if I am wrong, but what I noticed during corners is that Konate and VVD would stroll up the pitch, when what we need is for the game to speed up. Palace are taking a minute every goal kick and throw in (earlier in season players are getting booked for taking 10 seconds, but seems the ref are totally ignorant of time wasting now. Hopeless)

Recall seeing VVD evening guesturing for Robbo to slow down/ wait for them to amber into the box at the start of the 2nd half when we were trailing.

{Ed001's Note - that was very frustrating. You would think they would bust a gut to get up and get on with it.}

16.) 16 Apr 2024 13:30:00
Yeah, perhaps. Defensively enough minded, I'm not sure but definitely has the ability when fizzing balls through the lines.
Time will tell. Cheers Ed.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome.}

17.) 16 Apr 2024 13:41:22
Quality over speed. I'm all for them taking a moment to ensure best execution of the set piece.

What if they rush it, screw it up and get hit with a goal on counter attack?

No, calm heads and clear thought. It takes a second to score a goal.

{Ed001's Note - so they can't jog forward to get in the box rather than stroll? Not sure how that would stop it being the right execution.}

18.) 16 Apr 2024 15:02:39
I don't want Trent anywhere near the holding midfield role, personally. We need him back marauding down the right, putting in crosses. Where that leaves Bradley, I'm not sure. Regards to Endo, he's served a purpose this season, but he gets caught on the ball far too often and he's not the future. Regards to who takes his place, I've no idea. However, we employ a team of scouts who I'm sure are working on it as we speak. There are thousands of footballers, across the world. I'm sure there's someone out there.

While I'm on a role, I agree with those who think Salah's time has come to go. He isn't half the player he used to be, sadly. Who we get to replace him? See answer above.

19.) 16 Apr 2024 15:04:15
Edd001 disagree with you on robbo. He made some great deliveries especially first half and seemed like our only outlet going forward. He delivered a great ball in which Diaz should have scored. Robbo also saved virgs slip clearing the ball of the line which i had hoped would have been the turning point. Second half i can't remember who was our best player to be honest because it was shocking to watch the same performance with a title to play for. Robbo could have fell off but he and allison stood out definitely for me.
On elliot, i couldn't agree more and was p. ed off seeing everyonelse come on and it took until the 82nd minute to put him on. An actual match winner for us . Just crazy on klopps part. For some reason i have thought klopp sees him elliot abut like minamino. It's a personality thing. I could be wrong but that's where maybe under the next manager elliot stops just appreciating being there and really shows he deserves to start ahead of others.

20.) 16 Apr 2024 18:27:40
Glad you made that comment about the byline Ed. As far as going forward goes, it is the one thing i absolutely cannot understand or abide by.

City score an unbelievable amount of goals by getting to the byline and cutting the ball back, something which we never ever do. It is clear the management don't instruct the players to do this, and that seemingly our forwards are either too incompetent or too poorly coached to do it.

I am not a tactical genius by any stretch but it appears to me that getting the ball to the byline quickly and cutting back before the opposition can prepare is the most reliable and easiest way for the top teams to score. I feel like this was something we tried to do at our peak but i can't remember the last goal of that kind we scored.

21.) 16 Apr 2024 23:10:21
A great read Ed1, saw it was posted this morning but saved it for getting home, many thanks mate.

You know, it makes me think back to the start of the season I'm pretty sure you were the one saying Lijnders' tactics wouldn't work out for us in the long run and I also seem to remember many people not agreeing. Well, fair play mate because you were bloody spot on from the off.

I'm gutted with how things have turned out at the last hurdle, absolutely bloody gutted. I know it's not over and I'm probably speaking out of turn but I can't see us winning anything now mate, not this season.

One thing on my mind was Gomez, would you start him on the left instead of Robbo? reason I say it is because when he did play there he was absolutely fantastic! don't get me wrong I love Robbo and in no way slating him but when I think of the two and who is better in the position, surely it's Gomez?

Hope you are well Ed1 mate. Thanks again, always appreciate your time to write these.

{Ed001's Note - I hope I will be proven wrong at the end of the season when we lift the Premier League.

I would stick with Robbo personally, Gomez does not offer enough attacking threat and on the left is always looking to come inside when we need width.}

Nice one, Ed. Osaka is a baller who can play out wide on the left as well and has the ability to score near any type of goal. Like you said, he’s going to want to go play in a trophy hunting team at some point and Newcastle ain’t it.

2.) 11 Apr 2024 18:27:30
good one ED, would he have been a better buy than Nunez, while Darwin is a fan fave, he has taken soo long to settle, learn our lingo, ha part scouse, and finally start getting goals and assists, but not enough for me,
think Isak is more of a natural striker, so would we go for him .

{Ed001's Note - no.}

3.) 11 Apr 2024 19:59:13
You having a laugh? Isak over Darwin? Not for me.

4.) 11 Apr 2024 21:17:05
Have to, say I would take Isak over Nunez.

5.) 11 Apr 2024 22:54:14
I wouldn't touch Isak and don't see the allure he has to some on here. I understand it feels like we need upgrades to take advantage of the chances we make but he's not it. I just don't see him contributing to the team other than scoring which doesn't suit us at all. Much better options for us, and Isak is at his level for me.

6.) 12 Apr 2024 14:28:25
Darwin all day long.

I do feel like when salah doesn’t perform we struggle to score. I’m not blaming him, he’s going to be inconsistent, coming back and with Ramadan. But nunez is the chaos and so is Diaz to a a degree, we need someone to be the calm. Jota perhaps would have been the difference.

2.) 10 Apr 2024 10:37:13
When u take a step back from it after a few days as a team we probably played v well, a lot of individuals where just ok but as a team i thought we played well. people can say utd crap and all the rest but they still 6th after 31 games played. we limited them to v little going forward and created chances at our ease. obviously final ball/ shot wasn't what it should be. The Previous 3 games, brighton+ sheff utd in league and utd in cup i didn't think we played well as a team, gave up too many chances especially in them games whereas Sunday really utd scored 2 screamers in fairness but other than that created v little, in cup game they had plenty of good chances. Some how we have to get konate starting at least 5 out of our last 7 games in league, handier said than done with his injury record but he is a v good player who we badly need playing.

3.) 10 Apr 2024 10:37:20
Nice one, Ed.

You're right in the wastefulness could end up being a bigger story at the end of the season than the refereeing debacles we have faced.

Even on the first day of the season we had numerous opportunities to be 3 or 4 up against Chelsea. We missed a sitter to put Brighton away to bed. The Luton away misses were shockers. The three games against United could each have been cricket scores. The City and Arsenal home games too. I'd say there's at least 10 points lost to poor finishing of big chances this season.

I also agree that this is not a new issue. The CL final vs Real Madrid still rankles as does that Leicester City away game that somehow we lost!

Why Klopp chose to play Ibou vs Sheff Utd and omit him from the United game is stll a mystery to me. Perhaps Klopp was punishing him for going off with France. Sounds a stretch though.

{Ed001's Note - let's hope the story is that we win the 2 trophies left to us despite the wasteful finishing!}

4.) 10 Apr 2024 10:51:05
Agree with you totally about the Konate issue ED001.

I could not understand why he started Quansah instead.

No doubt we should still have won that game though.

{Ed001's Note - we should still have been good enough, but this was defo a game for Konate. I said as much to Bazza before the game, I was really uneasy once I saw the team. I do like Quansah, I do feel he will grow into a player good enough, but right now he is not the man for the big games when there is Konate there.}

5.) 10 Apr 2024 10:59:30
At the end of the day, its results that matter the most. Yes I love a flowing, technical, positive style of football. We've played very well in 3 matches against ManU, with two draws and one defeat. I, and we, console ourselves with having "been the better team". But what's the point of all that if you don't win? I guess I'm still deflated after that last game.

6.) 10 Apr 2024 11:51:08
Generally speaking we play well. And teams that play well typically win things. I do t think I’ve seen a team not play well or be the better team for the majority of a season and consistently compete for titles / trophies.

It’s not meant to minimise a bad result because they can happen whether you play well or not. But you will hear managers often talk about performances more than the outcome because the performances are within their control.

7.) 10 Apr 2024 12:18:38
ED1 ? agree that Konate should have played ( not because of Quansah mistake ) just that Konate is a better, more experienced player. but main issue as you rightly say is the amount of chances we regularly miss., game after game . I don't get how we miss that many considering the amount of chances we make . and then teams seem to have a couple of chances against us n bang its in the net .

{Ed001's Note - it is a worry and it does need resolving if we are ever to achieve our potential.}

8.) 10 Apr 2024 13:05:13
Was konate not injured?

9.) 10 Apr 2024 13:23:34
Konate was on the bench, for the game. That's why so many of us are wondering how and why the selection of Quansah over Konate was made.

10.) 10 Apr 2024 13:28:49
The one positive to draw from it is that it keeps Ten Hag in post and as long as he’s their manager they won’t win a title or be remotely close to it.

11.) 10 Apr 2024 15:12:47
The lack of finishing has cost us for years more trophies. It's been mentioned for years. In some of the biggest games the lack of finishing has cost us and it's something klopps never improved. This is why regardless it's for a refreshment of manager coming in to see if this is an area wr can improve on because it's as frustrating as a fire performance.

12.) 11 Apr 2024 02:31:49
Spot on as per usual Ed1 mate, thanks for writing it up, always enjoy these.

I too, like Quansah. But unfortunately from me there is a but, he's not ready for this level of football. yet. I do believe he will be an exceptional player but he's far off at the moment. A young mind, he needs to mature a little to learn more and probably needs a little guidance with it.

One of them for me, I think if Gomez and Elliot had of started the game it'd of been a different result but it's all ifs and buts, same could be said if Jones started.

Did my bloody head in that game, the worst of the season for me. Well, apart from the Spurs game which was just an absolute shambles.

Anyway, hope you're well Ed1 mate :)

{Ed001's Note - I just think he needed a bit of bringing back down to earth, as he is playing so well and getting such plaudits, sometimes you need to remind a youngster that actually you still have a long way to go. By showing him that there is a better player in the squad picking Konate over him would have done that. As Paisley used to do by dropping them after a run of games back down to the reserves. Now he has learnt the same lesson but in a much harsher way and one that has now doubt resulted in abuse off the morons in our fanbase. Oh well, can't change it now and I actually blame Bazza because he told me Quansah would be fine before the game when I expressed my doubts about the selection to him. So he is a Jonah and jinxed it.

Good thanks mate. I am just looking at it as a point gained because we could so easily have ended up with nothing. How about you, how are things?}

13.) 11 Apr 2024 09:17:05
Agreed Ed1 mate. It's due to the lack of maturity, they get ahead of themselves at that age, I also think it's why a lot of them fail at the top level, if they take their time and be patient with a clear mind, listen to the manager you can't go far wrong. Sometimes being harsh has to be the case with youngsters at this level by like you say not throwing them in at the deep end in games like that.

And I know what you mean mate, some comments I've heard from people are just silly considering he's only 20, or 21? He has plenty of time to learn. It'll be interesting how the new manager handles these kids because for me it's so important, we have a lot of talented young lads there but can't just throw them in like that, give them their chances but don't be daft about it, do it gradually.

I am very well thank you Ed1 mate, can't complain as much as I love to because I'm a miserable bugger ;) lol - What's the next article if you don't mind me asking mate?

Have a good day Ed1.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know what will be the next article, I am just working on a player profile at the moment, updating Isak.

To be honest I wasn't meaning throwing him into the deep end is the problem, I think that is the best way for them to learn. But when they have had a run, a lot of plaudits and praise, then you need to closely monitor their play to watch for a bit of arrogance or laxity slipping into their play. For me he is borderline on both anyway, the way he plays normally I mean, not a bad thing to be arrogant to a degree, but when it slips into this kind of slack play because they might be believing their hype, then it is a problem. So I would want to manage him more closely because of it, including always turning to Konate, when fit, for the bigger, tougher matches, just to remind him that he is not there yet. But even failing that, he was consistently giving the ball away by not looking before passing across the defence in the first half, so he really should have been dragged off and given a proper dressing down at half-time. I know that is not the done thing these days, but you can't just let someone constantly make the same mistake over and over. They have to take responsibility for their mistakes and stop making them. It was a mistake by the coaching staff as a whole to not deal with it. You don't mind them making mistakes, that's how they learn, but not the same damn one multiple times in the same match. That is not learning, that is lazy and arrogant play. You can't allow that if you want the kid to reach his potential.}

Ed001

1.) 07 Apr 2024 08:14:04
Good read as always. Simple thought - part of the problem with us dominating possession in this way is that it compresses the play so much in the opposition half making it harder to find good chances to score (although we seem to find a way eventually) . Sometimes worth letting the poorer teams try and play a bit more so that space opens up in their half perhaps?

2.) 07 Apr 2024 09:20:58
We do seem 2 start much slower nowadays and I suppose it has worked if u look at the table. what concerns me is amount of chances we let opostion have early on. I would like 2 us start sharper, if need to slow it down 15-20mins in fair enough.
I can't remember last time we scored an early goal as in 1st 10mins.

3.) 07 Apr 2024 09:38:01
Great review as usual Ed. I wonder was salah taken off because of Ramadan? Just didn’t have the legs to keep going. Is it strange that when their goal went in I was very relaxed thinking they equalised way too soon. It just felt like when we need to we can step up another gear on demand. Would be nice if they put teams to bed sooner though- and perhaps started chipping away at that Arsenal goal difference.

{Ed001's Note - I think he was just keeping him fresh for the weekend.}

4.) 07 Apr 2024 11:08:51
Nice one, as always Ed. I agree that us dominating teams starting by the hour mark fro ex., is the way we acctually play. I've seen many on here and on rival fanbases saying we are lucky to get these wins, score more goals in the final qurter of the game due to luck BUT how can it be luck if it happens this aften? It cannot be that, surely.

Also, Sheff. Utd due to the domination and pressure were lready starting to tire at about the hour mark and tho they essentially, fluked a goal, we turned the heat on them and the were dead on thier feet by the 75th min.

As for Szobo, I said soo here already. eople thing he is not playing well BUT that is not true. He is playing a lot for the team than he did in the beginning covering spaces, gaps and helping out on in defence with Bradley and Gomez inverting. this allows the likes of Salah and Mac10 specifically to get forward and orchestrate. Great win and on to Utd.

5.) 07 Apr 2024 11:29:08

On the point of rashness Ed, don't you think Robertson also sometimes got the same problem? He likes charging up the field trying to win the ball and sometimes didn't come close to it and left our CB exposed. Seen it quite few times last and this season.

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

2.) 27 Mar 2024 09:28:59
You think that's down to our very own tactic of trying to win the ball higher up field or just both player's own traits?

3.) 27 Mar 2024 10:15:47
I’m pretty sure Klopp has commented after games that players need to make the decision about when to press and how. I do think Robbo presses and misses a lot more than he is criticised for. Especially when considering the amount of criticism his mate on the other wing gets ??.

4.) 27 Mar 2024 11:02:41
I’m not buying the “it’s Klopp’s instructions” logic. Klopp likes his players to use their brains when playing, and Robertson’s pressing mistakes are usually are sign of the opposite. At 30 years old and with 6 years as the starting left back in Klopp’s team, he shouldn’t be making errors like that anymore.

5.) 27 Mar 2024 17:08:12
Robbo plays with a lot of passion but he is too headstrong . too many injuries now . if we really want to win this league then we have to keep on improving the squad and first team . I do think the left back from Fulham would improve us.

It is nothing to do with other players and everything to do with his attitude and prior service. It is felt he deserves the opportunity to play regularly if he wants to go. While he does not really want to leave Liverpool, he does want regular first team football.

Whichever way he decides is fine by me, I am in full agreement that he has earnt the right to do what is best for him.

Ed002 has some more info on this, which he will hopefully add, and point out I made a mistake assuming a party flying from London might not mean a London club, doh!

Ed001

{Ed002's Note - As of an hour or so ago Inter's business for the other player has now been concluded and they are looking to sort out the Shaquiri transaction by tonight or tomorrow morning. Their real plus point is that the player wants to move to Italy with them. Against them is that they are unable to pay the full amount upfront.

Therefore if Liverpool want to do something about Shaqiri it must be very soon - and if they are going to pay up front they must have access to the cash. They will also need to persuade the player that he should move to Liverpool.}
