Ed001, would you have preferred smith to stay over Moreno? Morenos defensive inabilities have been covered but I honestly don't think he offers much in the final third either, his delivery is shocking. You've said before that it was hoped Moreno could be taught to defend but I'm sure smith would come on a lot more given the same chances Moreno has had?

DerekPiero

{Ed001's Note - Smith is not as stupid either, but I doubt we would get anyone to take Moreno.}

Maybe Brendon would take him to Celtic since he's the idiot that signed him and clearly rates him as a left back.

How good was Martin Skrtel tonight. Absolutely frustrates the life out of me because you know he has that performance in him, usually when it's backs to the wall. I'm the first to say he needs to move on now but credit where it's due, the big man was immense tonight.

Or Hodgson dinosaur tactics made it easy for him?

2.) 20 Jun 2016 23:32:36
100% agree. Incredibly frustrating knowing he's capable of performances like that.

3.) 20 Jun 2016 23:44:52
He wouldn't have lasted at LFC as long if he wasn't coape of good performances, but, like Mignolet, he is 1 game away from another amateurish total cock-up.

4.) 21 Jun 2016 00:16:01
I think we all know Skrtels weakness. If he was up against a big strong attacker tonight he'd have been mauled all over the pitch. But Against Vardy and Studge. He's gone and played a blinder I can't take that away from him.

5.) 21 Jun 2016 00:40:36
Whatever you think of him career wise, he did have such performances for us and not one or two. He is a fighter and a fantastic header, without taking anything from his weaknesses I always thought that at least here he got too much of the blame to our defensive faults.

6.) 21 Jun 2016 00:45:43
Iv always thought he's looked good against crap teams his whole Liverpool career.

7.) 21 Jun 2016 01:01:13
Skrtel is a good defender in a team that sits deep so he can see the play, get tackles, blocks in etc. It's when the team pushes up the pitch and there's space in behind him that he struggles. That's why he looked good when Rafa was in charge as we sat deeper and hit on the break, Rafa didn't leave space in behind.

That performance tonight didn't surprise me one bit, that was just his type of game. Unfortunately he doesn't suit our style now but he will be a great player for someone else in the right system. Good luck to him.

8.) 21 Jun 2016 07:46:43
Let's not forget that he shouldn't have even been on the pitch after his assault in the Wales game.

9.) 21 Jun 2016 08:19:39
Spot on pips, he looked good for playing in a heavily defensive setup, without the risk of being exposed on a quick break.

{Ed001's Note - it is more to do with the inability to drop deeper than his team mates opening up space either side of him for the opposition to exploit. When his team is sat deep, there is no space for that. That is the main reason he looks better, because he is not messing up everyone else's game.}

I just despair at the chances Ibe gets to impress compared to texeira. He is so predictable and for me has done nothing. Tex is twice the footballer he is but I fear he will end up leaving to get regular football.

I wonder if anyone knows how much effort tex puts in to training because no matter how much ability u have if you don't have the attitude to match its not going to happen.

2.) 10 Feb 2016 08:23:10
I'm starting to wonder the same about Ward. What is he not doing in training to get a game?

What's your take on Mario Gomez? Personally I don't see there being anything in it but I would prefer him to Benteke. I wouldn't say he is ideal to the high press but then the Bayern team he played in pressed well and he banged them in for them, granted he's had injury troubles since. Clever movement and he knows where the goal is.

Depends which Gomez we get. In his last season in Germany he bagged 19 goals in just 1200 minutes of football.

However in his last 2 seasons (in Italy) he's bagged 14 goals in 3200 minutes.

He needs to get fit and stay fit and then there is no doubt he is a class act.

If he can stay fit for a full season and find the form that saw him score at a ratio better than a goal every 90 minutes, he is a 30 goal a season striker. I haven't seen much of him in the league the last two years though so I don't know if he's playing badly or just not getting many chances created for him.

2.) 30 Jun 2015 17:22:04
Would take him over the above mentioned targets. Fsg really seem to be digging into the archives. Llorente and then Gomez. It's the January of 2011 all over again. Just hope it doesn't end with us signing another big lump for huge money aka benteke.
P.s all this mario gomez rumors only paper talk or any substance to it?

3.) 30 Jun 2015 18:08:23
personally, would rather us not sign anyone if the options are benteke, llorente and gomez.

4.) 30 Jun 2015 20:37:38
Eds, we seriously need to look at the "agree disagree" system, ems just got three disagrees for stating some facts?

5.) 30 Jun 2015 20:49:03
No thanks, Gomez has had injuries, and like Llorente, has gone down a level.

Sakho is dire. He can't pass (not to a Liverpool shirt anyway) and he's so indecisive then when he finally makes his mind up its either the wrong decision or it's too late. He was shocking for Leicesters 2nd goal on Tuesday. Everytime the ball is near him I'm behind the couch!
