I don't care what anyone says buy our defence looked miles better today.

Yes we conceded two sloppy goals both individual mistakes by Sakho and Can but honestly as a back four I cannot remember any other clear opportunities given.

Sakho I think is underrated his range of passing is far superior to lovren and Skrtles and he rarely gives the ball back to the opposition, neither does he hold players by their testicles like the other two mentioned.

Although Gomez has done well so far this season and is certainly one for the future but Moreno is a far better option especially going forward, he just needs to work on his crosses. Clyne is just brilliant!!!

I would however like to see Bogdan given a chance

Clyne brilliant? Really? I failed to see what he offered going forward today. great runs i agree but no end product. we really have to work on our crossing

2.) 26 Sep 2015 20:14:07
Miles off mate.

There have been a number of teams who haven't had clear cut chances against us, yet have still walked away with three points because of costly errors.

The comparison is in contrast to a striker who has no chances, but scores on his only attempt, and it's a similar situation with the defence, who have a nasty habit of looking comfortable, yet start switching off and making mistakes which has had massive consequences.

In other words, them individual errors that occur every game will (and have) lost us games.

Can should NEVER start in defence again.

3.) 26 Sep 2015 20:23:06
Can't agree more Davey, Can is not a defender , its a waste of his ability

4.) 26 Sep 2015 21:10:29
I thought the defence was shaky as always. Can is not a defender but is just as effective as skrtel and lovren which isn't very effective. Sakho is ok but wasn't very good today, saying that look what is along side him and behind him, can't imagine it inspires confidence. Thought the midfield looked decent today, that includes lucas. Phil was very good, but we won because we had sturridge and villa were poor. A win is a win tho, hopefully we can kick on now and do the bitters next week

5.) 26 Sep 2015 23:03:21
Can and sakho were poor today, gestede showed how poor sakho is in the air,

Enrique is just another Adebayor happy to sit on the bench and take the money.

Worst kind of modern day footballer imaginable!!!!

I have never nor will I ever understand our dealings in the transfer market. As we all know over the last couple of years we have lost out on numerous top players who have all gone on to be great players. At the same time we have managed to pick up one or two bargain basement players (Coutinho and Sturridge)

What really annoys me more than anything is Brendan Rodgers and his constant talk of strengthening and improving his squad with first 11 starters.

Given the amount of money he wasted last year on so called first team players (Can only) do you editors believe this is a reason FSG are being extra careful this summer in the transfer market?

Take Kovacic for instance he's certainly a £20 million pound player and is by far a better all round player than Sterling and yet if it is believed we are offering peanuts for his services and at the same time insulting Inter by trying to offload some of Brendan's poor buys in the deal.

I know our wage bill is huge and players like Balo Enrique Borini etc need moving on but for me Kovacic is a must buy and certainly a first team player ahead of the likes of Allen Lallana Markovic and Sterling so FSG should stop messing about before it's too late.

Just my opinion but I can sort of understand FSGs dilemma

I can't. They kept a failure in place and BR's making the same mistakes in the TW that he made last season as in, buying players we don't need. It's that cut and dry. They choked on getting Klopp or another manager to get us out of this mess. Where's the dilemma?

2.) 17 Jun 2015 00:38:49
sorry to say i agree with Curled 1, what i cannot understand is this. every Red's fan and his dog have known for a very long time what players and positions needed sorting out, yet nobody at the club has addressed the obvious! why? good question, this buying young players cheap then hoping to sell them at a profit a couple of seasons later has not worked, we have needed a top striker since Suarez left, goalkeeper position was embarrassing last season and Rodgers, well it's all been said, is it any wonder top players don't want to come to play at Anfield.

3.) 17 Jun 2015 00:30:11
use lose out on world class players because no one wants to play for a team who hasn't been at the pinnacle of the league for over 25 years.

when are you going to realise mediocre and average is now what you have become?

your last world class player has gone.

enjoy mid table battles with swansea and stoke :)

{Ed001's Note - where were Liverpool when they bought Suarez? These kind of comments just show ignorance.}

4.) 17 Jun 2015 07:00:46
Redohio I have to agree with you. I admit that this decision to leave BR in charge is the first time I have seriously questioned FSG. They have generally been good owners but this decision is mind boggling for me.

Mateo Kovacic is a gem of a player and will be a first team player alongside Coutinho Milner, Henderson, Ibe and Sturridge.

25 million euros 18 million in proper money would be money well spent!

C'mon FSG flash the cash and get Mateo snapped up then we can move on to the next target.

No doubt someone will correct me but I can't think of too many players who've moved from Italy to England and been a massive success. If we do sign this fella then I hope I'm wrong but our record with ex-Serie A players is very poor.

2.) 09 Jun 2015 19:39:00
Totally agree, Kovacic will be a superstar in his prime. Much better than what we currently have. The only problem is that we already have too many midfield options both in the first team and youth squad.

3.) 09 Jun 2015 19:54:13
If you talking about coming to England then Vialli and Zola did very well for Chelsea , but yes I agree with you Italian players and players from serie A seem to struggle in our club . But you never know there is always a first

4.) 09 Jun 2015 19:56:31
I see what your saying but can't you aim that at any nationality if you look hard enough?

True Coutinho was a great success, but there was also Balotelli, Aqualani, and Dossena to name a few. Then for every Mascherano there was an Insua or Paletta, for every Xabi, Torres and Arbeloa there's a Nunez, Aspas or Josemi.

Point is doesn't really matter what league they come from any player no matter who the player is, is a gamble.

5.) 09 Jun 2015 20:10:24
what i don't get is this idea you buy loads of players who play in similar positions and expect a midfield to form its self. The one position we don't need at all. like it would be idiocy to buy in is attacking mid. Unless were selling lallana and sterling for definite then it makes no sense.

6.) 09 Jun 2015 20:14:03
Johnny what about coutinho? Zola? Ravanelli? Vialli? Di Matteo? Di Canio? Robbie Keane?

I'm sure there's more that was just off the top of my head

7.) 09 Jun 2015 20:41:29
You can't have Robbie Keane he started at Wolves . Plus it's not so much players from Seria A it tends to be Italians that don't seem to settle well. Kovacic however is Croatian . But more to the point we haven't signed him so I won't worry until he puts on his red shirt

8.) 09 Jun 2015 20:57:01
Not sure we will be able to move onto the next target if your going to blow so much money on a player we don't need. Would rather spend that on a striker/goal keeper/right back.

9.) 09 Jun 2015 21:20:52
Dennis Bergkamp from Inter worked out pretty well for Arsenal.

10.) 09 Jun 2015 22:53:02
Spot on, Mikey. Kovacic is not needed but I guess the powers that be know better. What about Can? What will happen to Rossiter and the other mids in our squad? Guess nobody's asking such questions on here. I would ask the transfer commitee to address our striker issues but I'm afraid I'm talking to my own reflection.

11.) 09 Jun 2015 23:03:12
So did Henry from Juve to Arsenal. Scored a couple of goals here and there

12.) 09 Jun 2015 23:15:46
Proper money lol, like the Euro is Monopoly money.

13.) 10 Jun 2015 01:33:11
kovacic looks absolute quality to me.
amazing runaway train runs forward.
and apparently has quite a bit of experience playing in a deeper midfield role too. he's never going to be a matic style beast tho. another box to box mid really.
huge potential though, more than can and hendo IMO.

14.) 10 Jun 2015 07:49:30
Guillit & Klinnsmann did alright too

Just a quick question not related to today's game, I rate Erikson from spurs as the best possible replacement for Gerrard do you agree?

We could have got him for 12 million during the 2013-2014 season but chose not to.

Erikson is now spurs best player by a mile, may have to pay 30-40 million now though

Curled1

{Ed002's Note - There is no interest from Liverpool.}

1.) 01 Mar 2015 11:34:55
Do you understand football at all? The only thing he could replace gerrard on is free kicks! It'd be like saying we can replace gerrard with sterling coutinho. I thought lallana would play deeper as a midfielder and then he might be a good replacement but Rodgers plays him as a 10 or a winger. I thought if he played the same role as hendo he'd be the replacement

2.) 01 Mar 2015 11:54:21
Erikson is an out and out attacking midfielder who always looks for a killer pass, excellent at free kicks and can score a goal or two from open play, sound familiar?

He's only 22yrs of age and will only get better with age, you watch when the likes of Barca and Real come knocking.

3.) 01 Mar 2015 14:01:09
I understand he's a good young player but they don't play even close to the same position and we have plenty of number 10s

4.) 01 Mar 2015 14:02:30
And we need a replacement for gerrard why exactly?

5.) 01 Mar 2015 14:04:36
Coutinho is miles better !!!

I don't care what anyone says Higuain is a top top class striker and would be my first choice striker, the only sticking point would maybe the transfer fee.

40 million then yes he's certainly worth more than Liverpool value Sterling

If Liverpool get anywhere near 40-50 million for Sterling now the owners should take the money and run. Sterling is by far nowhere near the finished article and could very easily become a small fish in a very big pond at City, Chelsea, Madrid. and end up in obscurity!
