I no we'd all love to see Liverpool at full tilt today but the most important thing is the 3 points. I'd take a 1- 0 win today just to get points on the board let city be the pace setters and be the team who everyone focuses on and Chase down while we quietly go about our business. Get some momentum and a winning mentality before we start putting on a show.

1.) 12 Aug 2018 15:23:25
I mean, 3 points and a 4-0 is fun as well.

2.) 12 Aug 2018 15:28:57
Or not then haha.

3.) 12 Aug 2018 15:57:13
Forget the score Milly's free kick being stopped by ale House jack wilsheres sack was epic.

4.) 12 Aug 2018 16:34:05
It was his only contribution but you have to give it to Wilshere, it was a ballsy move.

5.) 12 Aug 2018 17:35:38
You could say the freekick was nuts.

6.) 12 Aug 2018 18:29:59
Or you could say that it was cracking.

7.) 12 Aug 2018 20:08:50
Iron Man 🤣 I nominate that for post of the week 👍.

8.) 12 Aug 2018 20:24:22
So Wilshere got sacked?

9.) 12 Aug 2018 20:34:55
he racked up some points for that move for sure.

10.) 13 Aug 2018 06:15:51
It took some spunk to make that challenge!

11.) 13 Aug 2018 07:56:12
That challenge was bollocks.

12.) 13 Aug 2018 16:56:36
At least someone put him to the test -icles.

13.) 14 Aug 2018 21:39:02
Wilshere can become a farmer now. he's got two acres.

14.) 14 Aug 2018 22:22:12
But why did the ref stop the game at that point? In his defence I suppose when they made the rule about stopping the game for head injuries they didn’t say which head!

15.) 15 Aug 2018 08:04:44
We'll let Deeney decide whether wilshere lacks the cojones after putting in that block.

Just to ask a question based on some things Ed001 has said in the past.

1 pep teams run out of steam towards the end of the season.

2 klopp is holding us back just enough so we can finish the 2nd half of the season strong.

Based on this and the fact we are still unbeaten and 2 points behind city, I really consider us favourites for the league. I can't see city winning many 1-0 games when they are fatigued in the second half of the season like we win them 1st half of the season. We know how devastating we can be when we turn it up a notch.

City will drop more points after Xmas than we will in my opinion.

Does anyone else feel the same?

CodTown

{Ed001's Note - the problem is that no one is making even an attempt to give City a game, so they are not likely to run out of steam the way they usually do.}

1.) 04 Dec 2018 09:37:19
I do feel the same but Ed1 is right, we seem to be the only team willing to give it to them and that's the biggest problem right now, I hope Chelsea give them a good go on Saturday.

If it's the same situation as it is now, us being 2 points behind them come the new year then on the 3rd we'll be top WHEN we beat them ;) .

I do believe they're going to bugger up somewhere though, we can only hope right now but I'm confident about this season and I fully believe we're going to win it.

2.) 04 Dec 2018 10:36:47
Its so frustrating the negative approaches of teams towards city. Lyon have had a go twice, won one and drew one, wolves had a go and drew, we had a go and drew, hoffenheim had a go and were narrowly beaten late on. I appreciate nobody wants to get spanked and goal difference can be important but I'm surprised teams don't see playing City as a free hit. The sitting back approach does not appear to work so teams may as well have a go. Sitting back on the whole doesn't even seem to keep the score down. Will be interesting to see the Chelsea and everton approach in the next couple of weeks.

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - Bournemouth, to be fair, had a go and were robbed at 2-1 when they should have had a blatant penalty. If they had sat back City would have stomped all over them.}

3.) 04 Dec 2018 11:06:29
Chelsea should in theory give it a good go in trying to beat City, which may encourage other teams if they see Chelsea get a point or 3.
It is concerning if teams turn up to play City thinking only of damage limitation.
Surely it is better to at least have a go rather than sit back just waiting to lose.
Maybe managers are fearful of their teams getting beaten by 8 or 9 goals and them being sacked, hence just trying to keep the score respectable.
If it carries on Man City will know they have won before the game even starts.

4.) 04 Dec 2018 11:28:34
As the season goes on teams will have to have a go at city, teams desperate for points and others chasing top 4 or top 6. City will probably look to prioritise champions league as well and although they have brilliant squad depth in every department this could hurt them in the league.
They are still well ahead of us and so can’t say that we are favourites for the league but so far we are doing everything right and I’m still confident we will win the league.

5.) 04 Dec 2018 12:18:27
Eds1 hit it on the spot, same as last year, teams just let city walk over them. Wigan got the 1-0 last year. So the other prem teams should really have a go and get some backbone, I think was it just us and Utd last year who beat them in the League?

6.) 04 Dec 2018 12:28:01
I think City have a lot to do with the way teams play against them. If you are being attacked for 90 minutes then you have played a defensive game.

I think it's us this year though. Little bits of magic like origi scoring late against the blues.

Let's say us and City win every game (which of course we won't) we beat them and it's ours.

7.) 04 Dec 2018 13:06:56
Can't really believe people think we are favourites to win the league!

8.) 04 Dec 2018 13:41:59
from a recent Klopp interview;

The quest for perfection is driving them on and explains why Klopp has made changes on and off the pitch in a bid to improve. In part, it was born of necessity. He sensed that opponents had adapted to his team's counter-pressing and he would need another way.

"A lot of teams saw that we were good at that and realised they were overplaying, " says Klopp. "If the team gives us the opportunity to do it we will still be there with the counter-press. But very often it is not possible. "A lot of teams also play counter-attack against us. They don't have the same respect for us that they have for Man City, for example. Against City, you watch it and wonder what they are doing. A week later they play us and they are thinking, right, let's try. City deserve that but it makes a big difference because we have to be 100 per cent concentrated all the time. It means that now we have to control more games. We have to keep the ball, especially against counter-attacking sides. That may change in the second part of the season when opponents who are down the table need the points and so they will need to open up a bit more. But at this moment we have to control games and be patient but in a very lively way. This was a big part of our thinking in pre-season as well. We really said that. It's like we were so lively in the past that the moment we couldn't be lively because there was no space for that it was like there was immediately this drop in concentration. That is not allowed. I like it more now actually. It is more mature. That was the next step for us. So far so good. ’

So far, so good indeed. It is not simply that they are playing poorly, because that would go against the evidence, but playing differently. Maybe that helps explains the differences between him and Buvac.

{Ed001's Note - I have been saying this all season! I don't make it up you know, Klopp and Buvac fell out in large part over Klopp's desire to change away from the high press.}

9.) 04 Dec 2018 14:07:26
Now if only everyone would read this slowly (99% of those daft TV commentators/ analysts included), we could stop pondering over Liverpool "under-performing" and not being as good as last year (a comparison shows you the exact opposite, statistically) . Tells you also that Klopp has matured as a manager, in the EPL.

10.) 04 Dec 2018 15:16:48
You’re all 100% right, this is the new way of playing and it is not a flaw, it is a step in the right direction. However, there are definitely some things that are negative that the change does not entirely explain:

1) The front three have not been at their best. We may not be pressing in the way that suited them so well, but there has been a lot of evidence to suggest they can do better. Whether it was Salah and Firmino initially struggling with their change in position, the general disruption caused by the need to accomodate Shaqiri, the chances missed and the huge amount of wasted chances from poor passing and decision making, it is quite clear that they generally have not been at their best.

2) Midfield imbalance. Again, although we have been playing more conservatively, this does not explain why the midfield has been poor as they have been, or been managed in the wrong way by Klopp. We miss Ox, and yet in so many games Shaqiri and Keita are being left on the side lines in favour of playing almost 3 number 6’s. That worked a bit better when we pressed so highly, but the change in tactics requires klopp to tweak the midfield so it does not leave the strikers isolated. I actually thought that while our midfield was overrun against Everton, the inclusion of Shaqiri in a big game certainly helped our performance and we should have taken our chances.

3) Sometimes we do need the press. While its all well and good changing tactics to suit the team better in the long run, i do still think there are times when we should go all out, at least in the first half of big games. The press worked best in big matches in blitzing the teams in the first half, leaving us in the second to defend and counter attack. Its a fantastic blueprint to beating the best, and i feel it could have been better utilised against City, Arsenal, and in all of the European games. In these games, being passive does not work well for us, we need to switch it up and go for the soft underbelly of the likes of PSG and Arsenal, but instead we allow the game to slip away. There is no point conserving energy when you have nothing left to play for come May, and i feel that in these games we should of switched up the tactics to suit the occasion. Hopefully we will still do that against Napoli.

{Ed001's Note - erm Keita has been missing through injury, so point 2 is just wasted.}

11.) 04 Dec 2018 15:37:25
But he was out of the team before his injury and hasn’t been giving a chance since he was declared fit. The manager obviously knows far more than i but its frustrating, the boy can play and i want to see it!

{Ed001's Note - he was being eased in after a slow start, just give it time.}

12.) 04 Dec 2018 19:34:52
This is by far the most intelligent thread I have read in a while. Ed01 has said that Klopp changed the system to keep us more concentrated and fresh. Many said he lost his way w/ o Buvac. Well, we all know what happened now with the interview transcript provided BUT I'm sure this will be white noise to the moaners out there.

I remember people saying "Klopp has only one way of playing". Well, he just proved them wrong BUT yet, they still moan that "we should be playing like we did before". Yeah, the same "one way of playing" they moaned about. Go figure. Memo to all fans: This is the way we play now and and you can either get with it or go support Buvac at his next job cos after all he's The Brain, right?

As for Keita, people need to chill out and let the guy settle in with his team mates. Keita is a beast of a player and anyone saying otherwise or slating him w/ o w/ o having watched him at RBL last season (like I did) is just embarrassing him. Melissa Reddy calls him "two players in one" at his best and that is a fact. he is immense. He just needs to be supported now as he beds in.

13.) 04 Dec 2018 21:23:35
oh Ed001; you always remember your first. First ever post, first ever reply. You know how to make a grown man feel special ;)

I was wanted to reinforce what you have been saying from the man himself to since his tactics are constantly raised/ questioned on here.

Keep up the good work!

{Ed001's Note - well thank you mate, as I hadn't seen your name before I wasn't sure if you knew what I had said, so I was just pointing it out in case. At least I know I am not just ignorant and forgotten your name now. One question though, is there such a thing as a grown man? We are all still little boys at heart aren't we, which is why we still all love to watch and play this game?}

I've read a lot on other sites that klopp has to win something this season for numerous reasons. However I think it's more than just klopp who should.

We have 1 of the best managers in the world, 1 of the best defenders in the world. 1 of the best goalkeepers in the world. A front 3 that can destroy any defence on there day and exciting options in midfield.

I agree this squad manager included has to win something this season, I no we don't have a right to win but I think we should be expecting things now.

CodTown

1.) 20 Nov 2018 18:19:35
Codtown, Klopp is a winner and has proven that in his career. If you read some of his interviews in his earlier days at BVB, you will see that tho he comes across as very sincere, honest and humble, he possesses a fierce will to win and people should not take his "jovial, down to earth attitude) as a form of weakness. According to him, he learned that from his dad who would always push him to be the best in everything he did esp. in Tennis.

Klopp is a fierce competitor who has very high expectations for himself and tho he won't say it out loud, he is always going into games to win regardless of whatever opponent or wherever the game is being played. There is a reason his BVB and LFC teams have terrorized teams domestically and in Europe. He plays to win.

Hence, the answer I have for those saying that he has to win something is that Klopp already has that expectation of himself and tho we have come painfully close since he arrived, he is always working towards that goal. The hope now is that it will happen much sooner rather than later.

2.) 20 Nov 2018 20:15:15
Take no notice of what anyone on the other sites say. Like I said previously, it took Ferguson 3 years to win anything.

Where does it say in the rule book Klopp has to win a trophy this season.

{Ed025's Note - page 24 paragraph 2.. :)

3.) 20 Nov 2018 22:37:00
Nice one, Ed.

4.) 20 Nov 2018 23:32:13
What happens if we don't win anything is the question? What other manager should we seek to appoint? all the players are replaceable if they decide they must leave.

5.) 21 Nov 2018 09:41:46
He put the pressure on himself when he arrived by saying “if I’m still here in 4 years we will definitely win at least one title”.

6.) 21 Nov 2018 14:07:55
In fairness, he may have mixed up the words and meant to say trophy. His English is far better than my German but there were a few loose translations early on. And yes I know he hasn’t won a trophy yet but two European finals in 4 years is decent, considering the team he inherited. Personally, until we see the team no longer improving year on year, I don’t think we should be as passionately alarmist as some of us are. Many can disagree but the competition nowadays is far more competitive than twenty years ago, let alone thirty or forty. Especially the English league. I want to win everything, the league most of all, but we are playing catch up and so far this is the second year in a row we’ve maintained a strong league position. Moreover, we had glaring weaknesses he has moved to eradicate. I really see us winning the title either this season or next, if not, then perhaps there is a problem and klopp out 😜.

7.) 21 Nov 2018 18:58:13
Spot on, AOE. Having lived in France, they consider Cups or trophies as "titles" so there is that to be considered. He said he "believed" that we would have won one "title" (meaning a trophy) BUT either way, managers say a lot of stuff when they are first hired and he is not the first one to say what his ambitions are or were at the time BUT as we all know, the reality on the ground is diff. esp. with what City is doing and the level the PL and CL are at right now.

It is true that he has not won anything BUT you have to consider what type of team he found (a true mess, clearly) and the gap between is and the rest of the now top 6. We finished that season 8th behind the mighty Saints and West Ham so let that sink in. He wiped out that gap within 2 and a half seasons to where we are now and I'm pretty sure we would all have taken that as a start at the time he signed for us. Does he have to win something? That's like asking if water should be wet.

Absolutely he has to and Klopp plays to win hence, the trophy cabinet he has now. The question now is can he do it here and he has proven that he can challenge with the best in the PL and Europe (He is the reason Arsenal and Chelsea are no longer in the top 4, which was a shoe-in when he came) . We have come painfully close at home and in the CL so we need to help him get over the hump and get it done. I believe in him cos the signs are there and I'm riding with him till the very end. YNWA!

28 Oct 2018 21:45:57
Does the saying judge us after 10 games still apply?

Because after 10 games we have won 9 drawn 1 and we are only just finding our form being top of the league.

CodTown

1.) 28 Oct 2018 22:04:13
I'm judging your understanding of 26pts out of a possible 30pts🙄.

2.) 28 Oct 2018 22:04:58
We have drawn 2. City and Chelsea.

3.) 28 Oct 2018 22:10:22
Think that's won 8 and drawn 2 bud. But you can be forgiven for being a little over excited, the table does make for very nice viewing at the moment.

Lets hope city drop at least 2 points tomorrow night.

Long long way to go yet though buts its definately looking promising.

4.) 28 Oct 2018 22:56:10
We are where we want to be after ten games where we had the toughest schedule of any of the top 6 so I'm good with with where we are, top of the league or not. On to the next 10 games.

5.) 28 Oct 2018 23:16:30
We're doing fantastic, bring any team on. Before the season started if we had said we'd draw 2 and win 8 in the first 10, we'd of been laughed at. Nobody is laughing now, we're feared and that's how it should be! Bring Arsenal on, they think they stand a chance against us? I don't think so somehow, I see a great game ahead, we know they're capable and are playing good football but can they match us? no chance, their defence will collapse.

Now this may sound silly to some of you and maybe I'm speaking out of my backside but as you all know I've said since before the season, I think we'll win it but here's a new one, I'll go as far to say, we won't lose a game this season! Wins all the way through along with 5-6 draws, we're going to smash it this time around!

6.) 28 Oct 2018 23:44:38
Judge us at Christmas 😜.

7.) 29 Oct 2018 00:28:20
I think both chelsea and City have been playing better football than us. That's good and bad. Good because we are still top of the league despite not being at our best. Bad because we are going to need to play really well to win things this year. It's an amazing position though, I fancy us.

8.) 29 Oct 2018 06:21:34
I say judge us on 12th May. 😉.

9.) 29 Oct 2018 06:47:40
Shanks used to say he didn't look at the table until Christmas. That said, you can be way off the pace by Christmas in the modern game.

10.) 29 Oct 2018 07:20:42
😂😂😂😂 Salah your positivity is applauded.

11.) 29 Oct 2018 10:10:36
Lol para the way I look at it mate, with the great transfer window we had and the perfect start to the season, we have to be positive you know? I see so many people still moaning about stuff lol it baffles me mate. We should be grateful for where the club as a whole is at but so many people will never be satisfied.

Hope you're well para mate?

12.) 29 Oct 2018 11:48:16
Morning Salah, I am delighted with the start we have made butstart giving City the respect they deserve. You thought teams would attack them this season but that was never going to happen. Teams are scared of City, we did not even press them or attack them and we were at home. You keep saying their defence and keeper are terrible.

We need a lot of luck to beat City to the title because their squad is better. Their midfield is way ahead of ours and they have scored more and conceded less than us. It is going to be a really exciting season but give this City side the respect they deserve. 100 points is something we can only dream of.

13.) 29 Oct 2018 18:25:44
Oh they certainly get my respect mark mate, there's no doubt about that. We just have different opinions on them that's all mate. But of course, each to their own :) .

30 Aug 2018 21:17:37
I no this isn't the right place but I'd like everyone opinion. I manage an under 7s football team we are a development team. What should I be doing to get them learning the best they can.

Thanks.

CodTown

1.) 30 Aug 2018 21:33:20
Personally at that age I think the best thing for them is enjoying the sport. If the kids enjoy playing then they will be willing to learn and improve.

2.) 30 Aug 2018 21:35:45
Keep doing what you are currently doing!

3.) 30 Aug 2018 21:39:11
Make it fun and let them express themselves.

4.) 30 Aug 2018 22:03:03
Let them lead it.

Come on massively if they own what they are doing instead of loads and loads of instructions

Take it you are on 7v7 Festival of football format? If you go with an overseas approach- let them play different positions. Pays off long term as they think how a player would think when they are matched up.

5.) 30 Aug 2018 22:34:52
First of all teach them some grammar. After that let them play to their own ability.

6.) 30 Aug 2018 22:38:33
Aggerdo no mate it's 5 aside but I see from everyone thoughts I should just let them have fun and allow them to express themselves.

7.) 30 Aug 2018 22:52:58
I ‘coach’ both my lad’s teams. One u14s and other u8s (u7s last year)
I’d suggest;
- don’t Over coach during games - let them make decisions and learn for themselves as much as possible. Direction such as ‘look around’, ‘relax’ (when on the ball) seem to work well
- at training I try to focus on weak foot work, coerver type ball work as a warm up and then small sided games. I. e the ball is always involved.
- always trying to get players looking around with and without the ball and communicating from an early age.
Happy to have a chat if you’d like to
Completely agree re points already mentioned on focus being on enjoyment for the children too
Also good to have movement of children between teams in the same age group to allow them to optimise development. We had 4 teams at u7s level last year and moved children between teams according to what they needed to develop best.

8.) 31 Aug 2018 02:53:39
Basics. First touch, striking the ball, 1v1 and running with the ball. You should only work on these, but like others said, make it fun. Mix it up and always end session with a fun game of some sort so they can't wait to train again!

28 Aug 2018 11:51:52
Game 1 won 4-0
Game 2 won 2-0
Game 3 won 1-0

Wish we wasn't halving our score every week. Bricking it for the next game now 😂.

CodTown

1.) 28 Aug 2018 13:34:35
I’ll take a 1/ 2 - 0 win, then a 1/ 4 - 0 win

In fact we can halve our score infinitesimally and never lose so I’ll take that.

2.) 28 Aug 2018 14:13:33
Perhaps it’s the power of 3
Next 3 games:
4-0
2-0
1-0
👍.

3.) 28 Aug 2018 18:40:37
I reckon it might be something lik 4
,2,1,2,4,8,16 isn't that possible ed01?😂.

{Ed001's Note - I like your thinking.}

4.) 29 Aug 2018 08:26:19
It will be 3-0 to complete the set the 5-0 against spurs to continue the upward trend.

Scoring 60 goals in season of 38 games. Or 46 in old league by winning everything 1-0

Not sure I trust your maths lol.

Ed002 is the debt still something we can manage if we start being financial sensible now or has it got to a point that we could seriously be affected very soon regardless

Thanks.

CodTown

{Ed002's Note - Before last season and without the spending/sales in the last three windows it is now back to being the fifth highest world-wide with the second highest annual increase (66%) of the 20 most debt ridden European clubs. Not impressive. It can be managed but the issue comes when the lines of credit run out.}
