Hi Eds,

Rumour has it that Newcastle are chasing Mauricio Isla who doesn't seem to have much of a future with Juve. Have you heard anything? Personally, I wouldn't mind us signing him one bit should Johnson leave. Has there been any interest in Isla from us since June 1st where you wrote that there was no recent interest? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi Eds, just read that Capoue is unhappy about lack of playing time and wants to leave. I have not read anywhere that he would be of interest to us, so just throwing a name out there, but do you reckon he would be of interest if Tottenham can be persuaded to sell to another top 4 candidate?

{Ed001's Note - no, he has offers from Italy he was considering, but we have not considered him. Shame, he looked a good player from the little chance he got to play.}

It depends on our level of ambition. Do we challenge for top4? Then the likes of Remy, Bony, Lacazette, Richards, Davies should be our targets. Do we challenge for the title? Then our targets should be players like Benzema, Cavani, Vidal, Ricardo Rodrígues, Lovren, Hummels and the crack pipe dream that is Marco Reus.

So far we have addressed our urgent need to improve our strength in depth. Last season we suffered from not being able to field impact players off the bench. Can looks to be an improvement over Allen, Lambert definitely is over Aspas and Markovic doesn't replace anyone, but rather makes up for the inability to sign Salah/Konoplyanka in January. Lallana to me is very, very exciting and provides various options for our starting 11.

For various reasons we cannot (yet, anyway) attract top tier talent like Reus, Pogba, Vidal, Sanchez, James, Kroos and so forth, and Suarez cannot be replaced 1:1, so I would be happy with eg Lovren, RR and Lacazette. That would ensure we have 2 very capable options on every position, me thinks.
