Great time to be a Liverpool fan and player. nothing won yet but just another game!
Can any of the Ed's tell me if Liverpool have shown any interest in Maddison of Leicester? I'm not sure of his age, but some of his play has been outstanding!

Candyman80

{Ed001's Note - nope. He only signed there in the summer and they have no interest in selling him.}

1.) 30 Dec 2018 14:17:04
Not good enough for us and a bit lightweight when I've seen him.

31 Oct 2017 22:39:53
So a lot of commentators saying Liverpool need a creative midfielder and a DM in order to improve. At the moment both would be hard to fill as there doesn't look to be many highly rated for either on the market.
Anyone any ideas as who we should look at?
Any of the Ed's know if we are looking to improve in these areas?
I think a DM would help the defence but not sure if Klopp wants to play that way!

Candyman80

{Ed002's Note - The focus will be on the defence and getting someone in to replace anyone leaving.}

1.) 01 Nov 2017 11:02:30
With keita arriving and another to replace Couts, the defence is were we need to strengthen.

2.) 01 Nov 2017 17:17:27
The priority must be the back 4 - of all the zones on the pitch that is where the main problem lies.

We need two decent central defenders - a ball player and a thug.

And two reliable consistent full backs - one a traditional defensive-minded full-back for one side and the other a forward running raider for the other side.

Sort the back four out and Migs will become more confident and the players in front of it will be more willing to press up the pitch.

3.) 01 Nov 2017 18:56:40
Mignolet should be the first one out of the back 5!

4.) 02 Nov 2017 06:27:49
Thing is it is more than just the back 5. If you let teams constantly run at your defence, they will score. If you let teams constantly get into positions to cross the ball in, they will score. Plus a lot of goals are coming from set pieces where other players are losing their men. It is a team picture that needs improvement in some areas with the defenders but a player who can break up and disrupt in front of them makes a difference as well. Likewise if players are going to be defending in the box they need to be able to do that. Plus personally I'd give Ward a run of games whilst there is still a chance he might find some form rather than stagnate.

10 Aug 2016 19:00:58
New left back on his way. only 19 and played for Barcelona. welcome Juan Manuel Garcia!

Candyman80

1.) 10 Aug 2016 20:23:18
He's a forward so don't know where you get new left back from and he's on a weeks trial.

2.) 10 Aug 2016 20:23:28
It's in the echo that he's not for the first team at the present time.

3.) 10 Aug 2016 20:58:27
@dribble he's a left back can also play central defence mr know it all!

4.) 10 Aug 2016 21:43:34
He's a left back.

5.) 10 Aug 2016 22:23:32
Left back. On the bench.

6.) 14 Aug 2016 20:11:17
Left Back in the Dressing Room.

Hi all,

Long time follower of this page. great to see the transfer window open. Looks like the Steven Caulker deal is done. I hope he is there just to fill the bench!

Anyhow, have LFC and interest in Andros Townsend from Spurs? Good finisher, bit of pace, winger, team player etc. Would be a good addition to our team (maybe not always first choice tho! )

Candyman80

1.) 12 Jan 2016 13:36:54
He is truly awful, so let's hope not.

2.) 12 Jan 2016 14:09:28
Part of the reason Soldado looked so poor for Spurs.

3.) 12 Jan 2016 14:30:39
Oh well you better believe it its a done deal. As you see sly sports sometimes get it spot on an sometimes the eds dont!

4.) 12 Jan 2016 15:47:25
Why would we sign Townsend, whose been rejected by Spurs and QPR? ;)

5.) 12 Jan 2016 16:02:52
Is that Spurs comment a joke? If it isn't I don't understand it?

6.) 12 Jan 2016 16:47:11
He has a experience and could do a job. would be cheaper than looking into the European market.
Last chance salon but maybe we have to many players like that 😂.

Can someone explain to me why there was booing over the national anthem?
All your doing people is making the club a target for other fans! Your making the club come across badly!

#disappointedLFCfan.

Candyman80

1.) 04 Aug 2019 20:36:41
I thought that was rubbish as well, OP.

2.) 04 Aug 2019 20:42:40
Happily explain. Her Majestys Government have done nothing but rubbish on the city for decades. If you expect us all to stand and sing songs in honour of the establishment that tried systematically to close down a city you're mistaken. Do a little research. There are multiple examples but google our new PM and comments or Thatcher and Liverpool. As for other clubs we've been a target for years, it comes with success, who cares.

3.) 04 Aug 2019 20:46:03
Is this a joke? Scouse not English, if you want to be like the many sheep that follow the Royal Family go and support a London team. Why should we sing for a country that couldn't care less about us and who is the fool that has given you a thumbs up?

4.) 04 Aug 2019 20:58:53
Just goes to show as I long expected Redwolf you have no clue what you are talking about. It has been that way since as long as I can remember going to wembley. They s*** on the city what do u expect? As Instanbul says do you research before spouting.

5.) 04 Aug 2019 20:51:32
Fair point mate.

6.) 04 Aug 2019 20:53:41
Quite well known that in the 80’s there was an approach of “managed decline” by the Government towards the City of Liverpool

It’s why, IMO, the Hillsborough cover up went right to the very top.

7.) 04 Aug 2019 21:06:13
I had asked a question and all you want to do if attack me?
Football and politics shouldn’t mix. the club can’t do anything about politics of this country. your just putting a target onto the club!
What about people who laid down their lives for this country. Liverpool FC is bigger than the city. you need to get out of that small minded mentality. Respect others and you’ll get it return, if you don’t you get nothing but bother!

8.) 04 Aug 2019 22:02:11
Think about the irish for the last few hundred years. They don't sing the national anthem of england. Nor do the scots, not sure about the welsh, but fair play, they are good singers.

I got into football in the mid eighties, loved liverpool. Had some brilliant players. Then after a few years i felt i had become part of something that transcends football. I've loved liverpool for as long as i can remember. Its not a smalltown mentality. If anything, it's the complete opposite.

Think of those jokes about scousers being criminals. What a load of bollox. Ever been to a big port city that didn't have a criminal element? Or any major city for that matter.

Liverpool is an amazing place. Some real famous people are scousers.

9.) 04 Aug 2019 22:02:20
Candyman. We neither crave or require respect from other clubs. The city is bigger than the club. Football is a release from the everyday pressure of life. The way the establishment has treated the city, club and fans over the years is horrendous. I'm not attacking you im encouraging you to educate yourself. You will find many Everton fans who feel the same. You can try and seperate the politics but when politicians lie and engage in the cover up of that transpired after Hillsborough that left 96 of us dead emotions run high. As I said in my OP. Please do some reading.

10.) 04 Aug 2019 22:03:30
In addition, google Andy Burnham Hillsborough memorial. Yoh will find that football can and has altered politics.

11.) 04 Aug 2019 22:05:28
Let’s not forget Boris Johnson’s remarks about Liverpool and Hillsborough.

12.) 04 Aug 2019 22:36:31
I’m not English but I’d imagine it is because of the new prime minister and his offensive comments about Liverpool? Am I right or off track.

{Ed025's Note - dead right mate..

13.) 04 Aug 2019 22:45:30
I respect all your views, however you need to ask. will booing be helpful in the long run or not? I believe it won’t!
I live in Northern Ireland and with our history, I know only too well unjust events that has effected pretty much everyone in the country!
However I don’t go booing anyone’s national anthems. in fact I would have every reason to boo the Republic of Ireland’s anthem, however I found myself in Dublin watching international rugby match, where it was played. I didn’t sing it, I didn’t boo it either. I stood in respect of where I was and the people around me.
Doing this booing today, in my mind, is a lack of class. People have fought for this country, and died for this country, which to my mind, this booing does not show that their sacrifice have been worth anything!
Sorry for the long rant!

14.) 04 Aug 2019 23:22:54
Living in Oz for years now but anytime someone asks if I'm english I still say no, I'm from Liverpool, it just happens to be in England.

15.) 04 Aug 2019 23:32:12
I may not live in Liverpool but have been a fan for 45 years or so. I’ve had a massive affiliation to the team and to the city. I’m sorry and most likely in the minority but it’s not necessary to boo the national anthem.

There has been some poor politics for many a year and Liverpool City has suffered it fair share but the government and monarchy are two separate matters. What has the Royal Family done to the city of Liverpool. Governments come and go and let’s face it all the parties are as useless and selfish as eachother. They play politics. We should just play football and enjoy the love of the game and team.

16.) 04 Aug 2019 23:45:16
"Think about the irish for the last few hundred years. They don't sing the national anthem of england. "

You know Ireland is not a part of Great Britain anymore, right? Leaving aside the history, the Irish have no more reason to sing God Save the Queen than we do La Marseillaise.

17.) 04 Aug 2019 23:54:29
Please do a little searching before you use comments like "lack of class". I believe, and will to my grave, believe class and fortitude is what we are and what we have and continue to display. JFT96.

18.) 05 Aug 2019 00:23:03
Let’s not forget the lads who have laid down there lives have been lied to and told they’re doing it for a cause when it’s all about greed and oil money. So should we really celebrate a corrupt monarchy who just spent 50 million of tax payers money on there estate in Windsor while the homeless lie outside in sleeping bags.

19.) 05 Aug 2019 00:24:24
@Robbiesline, as a Welshman I can tell you it doesn't go down particularly well with us either lad ;) (you are right about us being fantastic singers btw)

20.) 04 Aug 2019 00:41:53
Who attacked you? People gave their opinions of the people of the City. You can't tell them how to feel anymore than they can't tell you not to go to the match.

21.) 04 Aug 2019 00:44:21
Oh come on lads I understand being anti Tory but there’s nothing ‘wrong’ with supporting the royal family I know a lot of people disagree but a lot of my family are all ex military or currently serving and they all have the utmost respect for them and I think they’re entitled to that. Besides Harry’s ginger he’s definitely a Liverpool fan deep down.

22.) 05 Aug 2019 01:11:50
I found it very odd.

23.) 05 Aug 2019 01:12:50
historically a socialist club with different fans around the world that may not believe in a mythical being and do not agree in monarchical system?

24.) 05 Aug 2019 06:53:55
Who’s offended?

The royal family? Politicians? Other clubs?

Well, good, that’s kind of the point. Why do the royals deserve our respect? Because they’re born into extreme wealth? So what?

Citizens not subjects 🤝.

25.) 05 Aug 2019 07:04:57
Why on earth do the royal family need any support?

26.) 05 Aug 2019 08:40:50
I hate nonsense like this, 'football and politics shouldn't mix' - whether you like it or not football and politics have always had, at the very least, tentative links. You should be proud that we have a dissenting fan base that is at least, in some way, politically engaged. Being on the fence, or worse completely apathetic, is such a cop out. The country is heading for ever increasing turmoil, we have an undemocratically elected PM (who has made a number of disparaging comments about our city), an undemocratically elected government who had to bribe a backward, conservative Northern Irish party just to scrape a working majority, and a dodgy-at-best referendum on leaving the EU which now seems to be ploughing ahead despite pretty much all promises made pre-referendum being debunked or found to be completely false. The country is heading down a very dark path and people are rightly concerned.

I don't believe football should be free from politics - if anything it is a chance for the people to get together and express their dissatisfaction with the system and, who knows, maybe even organize and try and make a meaningful impact. Ignoring that though politics will always have a place in football, from the racism problems and how they have been dealt with and changed, to the homophobia discussions and women in the game, all of which have changed over the years and all reflect how interconnected politics and football is.

As for the national anthem - 'god save the queen'? The German aristocrats who have unfathomable wealth, unfathomable swathes of land, and who still drill the public purse each and every year? Come on mate, a lot of people are struggling just to make ends meet and you have a family worth billions (maybe even trillions) being given taxpayers money - it is a disgrace, why anyone sings the national anthem I will never know.

Finally, Liverpool has always been quite a political place, with left-leaning political allegiances and an overwhelming distrust of the south, the London elites, and the politicians making the decisions which only seem to benefit those in certain area codes. I hope this doesn't stop, and I hope (though do not expect) the fan base to become more politically aware with the aim of actually enacting some form of change. Why would you want people to be quiet and pretend like their aren't serious issues? Just watch the footy, have a few pints, and pretend like there are no problems? Ignorance may be bliss to you, but some people do care, and football is a good platform to express this.

27.) 05 Aug 2019 08:50:18
I think we have gone off topic and went straight into politics! I don’t think any government picked on Liverpool individually, more likely that they see (or did see) the north of England as different to the south!
As for the Royal family, they generate their own wealth. any tax payers money spent on their buildings, is because we own them.

I’d say some of you are touching on socialism politics, which has been proven time and again that it doesn’t work!
It’s time to move on people. as we are told in Northern Ireland, those who once tried to kill us, now form part of our local government! Try swallowing that!
Also, NI is part of the U.K., Republic of Ireland is not.

28.) 05 Aug 2019 09:23:18
Let me put it plain and simple. I love this country, just not the ones who rule and govern it.

29.) 05 Aug 2019 11:51:53
@Candyman - The Conservatives actually mandated a steadily planned decline of Liverpool in the eighties, previously classified documents revealed as much. How is that not an attack (in economic terms) on the city? And you clearly haven't been paying attention to Bojo's past comments on both the city itself and in particular Hillsborough in which he regurgitated the baseless allegations made by Murdoch's rag in the wake of the disaster. It may not be personal to you, it is personal to many within the city and adds to the distrust many have for politicians and political establishments in the south.

As for your assertion that any taxpayer money going to the royal family because we own the buildings is factually wrong. Can we go around Buckingham Palace whenever we like? Nope. How much was spent on renovating it? I think roughly 350mil+? The royal family owns Buckingham Palace, we do not, yet we pay for its upkeep despite it being owned by multi-billionaires. If you're OK with that then more fool you.

30.) 06 Aug 2019 01:11:55
The Queen is the biggest landowner in the world.
Theoretically she can claim any land (no exceptions) in the commonwealth countries (which includes Canada) .
Yeah let's support her 🙄

Respect is earned. I can’t think of a single thing the royals have achieved to earn my respect.
I have utmost respect for those who have served in the forces, but the royals?

{Ed001's Note - I will never understand patriotism. A concept invented by medieval rulers in order to get the peasant class to die for them.}

21 Jan 2019 14:49:38
Watch out Ed's.
Club accounts forecasting is due out soon. with a potential £100mil nett profit showing. biggest nett profit of any club in the premier league era!
I know the Ed's hate getting asked about money and account etc. But this (when you look into the detail of it) is a bit of a red herring. costs have been moved into next year for the purchase of some players which is showing a high return. only reason for doing that is to kick the tax to be paid out down the line a bit, and/ or owners maybe looking to sell up soon so showing a big bottom line would help in the sale!

Candyman80

{Ed002's Note - Sneaking ahead of Leicester, I would think there is a chance. Perhaps they can use some of it to pay off the debts. Or perhaps it has already been spent in the Summer?~

1.) 21 Jan 2019 16:44:38
Already wrapped up werner, fekir, coates and simao.

2.) 21 Jan 2019 20:03:44
Isn't Simao retired?

3.) 21 Jan 2019 19:49:29
I saw that article and it was spouting a lot of junk.

It mentioned all purchases spread over the contract but all incomings paid this tax year.

4.) 21 Jan 2019 20:16:53
Oh Ed002, please tell me you are on a wind up and that 'The Firm' on Twitter haven't got the £43m purchase of Werner spot on. If they have I owe them a hell of an apology.

{Ed002's Note - I think it was € not £.}

5.) 21 Jan 2019 22:25:21
Don’t get your point on ‘kicking the tax out’. If you push costs out into future years and show a higher profit you pay more tax now. Also I’m not even sure if player purchase costs are tax deductible. If they are capitalised and amortised over the life of the contract this typically isn’t tax deductable. There maybe capital allowances involved.

Prep for sale may make some sense but my guess is ffp compliance. With the accounts likely 9 months out of date when released soon its the current year accounts / mi that will matter to derive a price. But in saying that your typical (profit) multiplier to get a company value will largely be inapplicable in football as most lose money!

6.) 22 Jan 2019 01:21:46
What is this strange language of which you speak, Tom27?

20 Apr 2017 22:57:35
Hi all,

Congrats to a very young Ajax team. great to see. during the match it was stated that Ajax have played at least one player who had come through youth academy in over 30 games for the last 30 years! Wow or what!

Anyhow. looking at the Ajax team can any of the Edds confirm if any teams (including LFC) have been keeping an eye on Younes? He's a wide left player who is very skill full and reminds me of cheski's hazard.

LFC could do with a left winger with plenty of pace and guile!

Candyman80

{Ed002's Note - You need the European pages - this is the Liverpool page.}

05 Dec 2016 11:26:16
Disappointed with yesterday but sure you can't win them all. looks like we need to add a bit of depth and quality to our squad starting with the defensive side. Sako is out so who is out their in a CB position that we should look at? Lovren needs his had held just to cross the road . we could do with a leader in either CB or holding midfielder who we can throw on in the last 20mins to see the game out and control the ball.

With klopp tactics, I am happy that they work in 9 times out of 10 and we will have the odd hiccup. Don't forget that b'mouth and Burnley deserved their 3 points. they more than earned it!

Candyman80

1.) 05 Dec 2016 13:46:01
I strongly disagree with u that u need quality player.
LFC player even if most were not first eleven but they are far better than Bournemouth's player.
They were not committed to the match in second half.
Bournemouth for me they did not deserve victory at all because they were dominated until 74th minutes that's when things got worse us.

2.) 05 Dec 2016 14:05:46
candy, Depth is always needed in a squad but that is not why we lost last night. Had we won 3-1, no one would be making that comment about depth and defence as we were all over them from the word go till the last 15 mins. We did not manage the game and we let our guard down, something we have never done this season. We will recover like we did after the Burnley loss as the players and coaches know what needs to be rectified.

3.) 05 Dec 2016 19:28:47
I still believe that at 3-1.we could have changed the tactics by throwing on an experience leader to see the game out. 15 mins we shouldn't be giving the opportunity of anything. ball comes into our box and it should be sent packing anywhere away from our goal. but to continue to use the same formation and leave the door slightly open will cost any team points. we haven't got that experienced head to throw on at the moment to sit in and do 'old school' tactics. I watched manure yesterday and after they went 1 up they went into time wasting mode to see the game out. only for JM throwing on the wrong player in side show bob. the weekend results would have been a lot worse 😬.

4.) 05 Dec 2016 19:58:15
You are globally correct, Candy. The leadership part will come with time as our team is still young. I did laugh my head off when I saw Fellaini do the "job" as he normally does. At the end of the day, I don`t blame Fellaini really as he is who he is. I blame the "best manager in the world" who put him on.

5.) 06 Dec 2016 00:13:30
Like Mourinio did with Felanni.

By changing the team structure you can invite trouble too.

Problem with playing against city is they constantly foul to break up attacks. It slows the whole game down and let's them reset. We’ve to ride a few tackles to break through this and onto their back line which I think we will boss with speed and quickness of movement on the ball. plus they’ve full backs can be caught out of position from a dianagal ball from the likes of VVD.
If we play smart, we can win with taking care of the ball.

My 2p worth anyhow lol.
