Good morning Ed's and reds, loving the new format, excelent work ed's, only 4 weeks of madness to go. A question please if I may.
Attacking wise I think we are looking great, loads of options (unlike last season), Sturridge to return, with at least one more to come in hopefully, midfield, solid, good movement, able to keep the ball. Would it in your opinion be feasable that both Agger and Skrtel could go this window. Looks likely that Skrtel is not far off going, and the rumers linking Agger with Barca after they supposedly have missed out on Thiago Silva remain persistent. Would be suprised regardless of the YNWA tatoo if he wasn't interested in joining possibly the best team on the planet at the moment. This would obviously need us to replace 2 new top CB's, having already replaced Carragher. The obvious choices at this stage would presumably be Papadopoulos and Alderweireld (would love that as a long term partnership), but would that be too much at once, replacing all 3 main CB's in one transfer window, plus possibly a new left back as well? I would worry about their understanding for at least the first half of the season, however good they are individually. {Ed002's Note - I think it possible but unlikely both will leave. I explained before that an agent had said the it would be Skrtel to stay and Agger to leave, and now that agent is doing a deal for Skrtel. I am surprised that BR has not looked to do more in the CB positions just yet. My views on both Papadopoulos and Alderweireld are easily found.}

Ok Guys (and Gals), everyone seems to be grieving somewhat, and I agree that LFC has not had a great recent track record with transfers, especially with regard to tapping up and illegal approaches etc. However I thought I would try and throw some names out there that would undoubtedly improve our starting 11 and given we apparently seem willing to "splash some cash" this window in order to push on from last season how about one of each from the following categories?
CB: Jonathan Tah, Niklas Süle, Victor Lindelöf, Alessio Romagnoli, Aymeric Laporte, Daniele Rugani, Andreas Christensen.
LB: Benjamin Mendy, Lucas Digne, Wendell, Yannick Gerhardt, Jordan Amavi, Raphaël Guerreiro, José Luis Gayá.
RB: João Cancelo, Nélson Semedo, Elseid Hysaj, Mitchell Weiser, Mattia De Sciglio, Rick Karsdorp.
Wing: Mohamed Salah, Federico Bernardeschi, Ángel Correa, Domenico Berardi, Iñaki Williams, Florian Thauvin, Quincy Promes.
My point being is that there are options/ alternatives out there (and many I haven't included) and the window isn't even open yet. Fingers crossed (this time) some lessons have been learnt, my glass is usually half full, (of beer quite often) .
We go again.

Florian Thauvin? Isn't he the one that wasn't good enough for Newcastle when they got relegated?

Sule agreed a move to Bayern ages ago.
Why do we keep repeating his name?

Not grief anger.

Dear Eds,

Not posted for a long time, but check in regularly to follow the regular Brendan/player bashing and thanks as usual for all the insight and work you guys put in, (loving the podcasts by the way).
Just wondering if any of you had any recent insight into the mood, in particular of the players as a group, and their general relationship with the manager? Given the apparent lack of cohesion/game plan and direction on the pitch. This coupled with the poor and in some circumstances shocking treatment of individual players, and other poorly run areas of the club in general you have pointed out at times on the site, surely this has/does impact on general morale, and mood at the club, (and presumably on the pitch), this following on from some of the player/manager issues last year. And lastly if you think this could (not just wishful thinking), impact on Brendan's position in the short to medium term.

Sorry for the slightly rambling question, appreciate any response, and opinions of other posters.

BruceLee

{Ed002's Note - I really have no idea what you are talking about but the players will want to be winning games and the entire group will be trying to improve.}

Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but a few posts peaked my curiosity and so had a look at win ratios with and without a certain player who shall not be named. Ajax with 61% without 70%, Liverpool with 50% without 64% at times he has been a joy to watch on the pitch but those simple stats seem pretty emphatic to me. Plus we will be strengthening the overall squad in areas we have been at times stretched or needed different options. Be interesting to see if he has a similar impact at Barca you never know he might even help them miss out on CL next season ;)

Dear Ed002, (joking) Please can you use that crystal ball of yours to give a specific time, date and names for exactly who we are going to be signing this transfer window, plus a correct breakdown of every player who will be signing for each club in Europe with analysis of all their strengths and weaknesses and your personal opinion on their ability as a player plus any notable personality traits. I'm sure we'd all appreciate additionally accurate information and precise analysis on fees including agents, taxes, payments to former clubs, sell-on clauses and a timescale for when and how all these payments will be made and to who. Any other information on any of the above, for instance, what a given target had for breakfast, what they will be watching on the TV this evening, what their favourite flavour of ice-cream is would also be fascinating and greatly appreciated. Not as though you spend much time as it is replying to posts really is it?

Man I hope you've got a good holiday booked for the start of September and thanks for all the hard work.

BruceLee

{Ed002's Note - Vacation looks like late September and October for a few weeks. Thanks Bruce.}

The problem is that it is quite often very difficult to judge if a young player is going to make it when they step up to the first team. There are some exceptional talents at youth level you are right, that are always going to make it, but they are few and far between. There are others that impress at youth level, but fail to make the step up, (Morgan for instance), and there are others that do not particularly shine, but seamlessly make the transition to senior level when given the chance, for instance Kane. I know Ed001 in particular has talked about this in the past, and there are many different factors that dictate how likely it is other than just apparent talent in a youth team set up and environment, mentality, physical development, attitude, etc. etc.
My point is, you just don’t know until they are given the opportunity. That is not to say they should be chucked into the first team on a permanent basis as a direct replacement for a senior player, but should be utilised more, as cover, rather than constantly buying established pro’s, otherwise why bother with a youth academy at all? One thing Sir Alex was in my opinion fantastic at generally, was gradually introducing youth prospects into the first team, some made it, some didn’t and were moved on, but they were given the chance. That also allowed them to make more significant additions to the team every season rather than 8-10 “lesser” signings every window to pad out the squad. Some will make it some won’t, but we won’t know until they are given more of a chance.

Sorry Ed, just looked that one up, different system, can play in the same league system but cannot be promoted into the same league. Great work by the way, thanks for all the hard work.

BruceLee

{Ed002's Note - And relegation?}

I assume the rules are different in Spain Ed002, with regard to their "B" teams?

BruceLee

{Ed002's Note - That is not a separate team and they can't be promoted.}
