away from all this hullabaloo about managers, i just have to say that Danny Ings has done well when he has come on, and remind me of Craig Bellamy in his style.

No chance, Bellammy had pace and that was his leathal weapon. Ings reminds me of old fashioned typical CF.

2.) 23 Sep 2015 14:25:19
Bellamy had more than just pace.

A very underrated player and a miss understood guy.

3.) 23 Sep 2015 16:51:47
I was just thinking that Ings looks a similar player to Bellamy in his style of play - aggressive, directive, shoots at first glance, but with a little less pace. And I swear I was going to use that word "hullabaloo" too in my post!

Good day eds and fellow reds, as this is silly season I thought I would add this, could it be possible that all clubs only have max transfer spend per season set out by the fa, would this not even the playing field abit, although getting all teams to agree on the amount would be like getting the truth out of fifa. or is this just a pie in the sky idea.
thanks

{Ed002's Note - No.}

I've said this for years, have a transfer budget & wage cap, for example £50million max spend & £50,000 a week max wages, it's ridiculous how much money footballers earn, average footballers who are journeymen can earn £100,000 a week, it would bring all clubs closer in line & make every league more competitive but it'll never happen unfortunately. With TV deals, Champions League money & sponsors ect the amount of money in football, imagine if somebody like Stoke or West Brom made better buys than Chelsea or United with their £50million, TV companies & Sponsors wouldn't want to throw money into a Champions League that would see Stoke v Levantte or West Brom v FC Koln. The big clubs will carry on getting further away from the smaller clubs & unless you get a billionaire like City, Chelsea & PSG it'll be the same old faces winning leagues & Europe 90% of the time bar the odd years like Blackburn, Dortmund, Valencia ect. Money rules football, just look at FIFA.

feeling very deflated about our club, just seem to have lost a spark and still relay on a couple of players, I was feeling very positive at the start of this season, giving my manc mate some stick now i'm hidding in the corner watching every game, performance have improved but, I just can't see us getting into that top four, I hope i'm wrong.
Just needed to get that off my chest, YNWA

I suspect those are the feelings of many of us

2.) I still think we can make top 4. We're 7 points off, with half a season to go. If we can put a run of wins together like we did last year(obvious with current form, 11 wins in a row looks unlikely), then it would look a little better.

Top 2 is too much to ask, but top 4 isn't. I can't see Southampton maintaining their form. I hope they stay in the top 6 though!

Arsenal look confused to say the least. West Ham won't stay up there much longer, they've been losing games lately and I fully expect that to continue.

The only team above us which look like they can do anything is Tottenham, but even then, they have a couple of good games, then look lost for a couple of games.

Maybe I'm being too positive and slightly naive, I don't know, but I just think negativity isn't going to help the situation.

I don't mind coming 6th if we win the Europa league. To me that's a more realistic way to get into CL next year.

A very long shot this, But as for a goalkeeper coming in I would be in favour of going for hugo Loris from Spurs, he's the type of sweeper keeper that would suit us, could be avaliable in the summer according to media outlets, but I would expect him to want CL and be out of our price range.

I know Levy would try to shaft us and we will probably end up paying the thick wedge of £25m, but I do believe he could be our keeper for years to come given his style. If we ended up getting 7+ good years out of him! and he provide the stability to our defence! wouldn't it be well worth the fee and more?

{Ed002's Note - I don't suppose Levy gives two hoots about Liverpool. Where would Liverpool get that money from?}

2.) We should have tried for him at the end of last season when it would have been even slightly realistic

3.) 06 Jan 2015 17:13:49
Dream on, Levy would want £40M at least. The guy is class.

4.) 06 Jan 2015 17:32:09
Ed002, sorry, you're right. It's not just us, Levy would try to extract every cent out of a player transfer to a directly competing club.

Where would we get that sort of money from? I'm not sure as I'm not privy to the finances, however i'd much prefer we spent more on fewer players, and I'm sure we will end up spending at least £25m on incomings in this/the next window. I imagine it may be funded by player sales, but that's only guesswork.

{Ed002's Note - Right, which is his job. If Sterling were to be sold would you rather Mr Ayre accept the first £15M bid or negotiate a £31.43M deal?}

5.) 06 Jan 2015 20:20:27
Ed002, apologies as I don't seem to have made my point particularly well. My meaning was that as Spurs are a direct competitor of ours, extracting one of their first team players from them would be a lot more difficult and costly than if buying from a non-direct competitor. Numerous examples abound in every league. You would always prefer to sell your best players abroad rather than at home as by selling them to a direct competitor you are having a double impact on your teams future performance - you gettign weaker (which would've happened anyway) but your competitor getting stronger.

To the Sterling point, I would expect Ayre to get more for Sterling if he was selling to City or Chelsea than if he was selling to Bayern, for example. Not £15m vs £31m more, maybe, but certainly more.

Levy would no doubt do the same. I imagine Bale would've cost United more than he cost Real Madrid.

{Ed002's Note - This is one of those myths that supporters use as an excuse. There are numerous examples of players moving between clubs like Chelsea - Liverpool - Spurs - Arsenal. Ziege, Keane, Benayoun, Torres ....}

just pondering the DOF, surely if they are resposable for all transfers they would still speak to BR about signings? so what would be the difference between DOF and the transfer committe, as if BR didn't want a player but the DOF did and they got him, then wouldn't we be in the same boat as we are in now, BR not fancying certain players. Or am i missing something in their roles,

Boston-ads

{Ed001's Note - a DoF can have various roles. Cruyff, for instance, was in charge of everything at Barca and Ajax, when he held the role. He even set out the blueprint that the teams used to play the game. When a manager veered away from the blueprint, see Rijkaard and Van Gaal, they were removed and replaced with someone who would follow his orders. Only Pep was able to gradually move away from Cruyff's system. At other clubs a DoF is little more than a glorified head scout with the power to set up transfers as well. It really depends on the club. There are numerous others with powers that vary between those two extremes.}
