Morning eds.

With the exception of the fekir deal which is slowly turning into a circus. wouldyoy expect any other deals to get done before world cup starts or will webe joing therat race once its finished.

Bobby_finbar

{Ed025's Note - i think a keeper will be the next piece of the jigsaw bobby but how the WC will effect that i dont know mate..

1.) 09 Jun 2018 10:46:30
Its only a circus due to twitter and peoples lack of patience, itll be no different to the Fabinho deal except we know this ones happening and nobody can wait to see what happen, Instead everyone wants somehow to vilify the owners for doing nothing wrong, it beggars belief.
There could be absolutely anything going on within the deal and on top of that how many times have any of us seen him play? personally the answer is zero, so why are we getting so worked up about a player we pretty much know nothing about?
If it happens great, If it doesn't we move on
Easy Really innit
YNWA.

2.) 09 Jun 2018 12:29:50
1 thing is for the sure the unpredictability of some of our games throughout the year seemed to spill over into our transfers. Astounding, Manic, Nervous but good value of enjoyment.

3.) 09 Jun 2018 12:30:15
Seems like the delay is related to his history of knee injuries. Really hope this doesn't stop the transfer!

Isn't it a bit silly that knowing he had a knee injury they persued him this far only to have doubts now?

4.) 09 Jun 2018 12:41:07
I think Ed002 has hinted it’s actually due to financial issues. Happy to be corrected if he’s moderated.

5.) 09 Jun 2018 12:42:27
That’s what some of the papers are reporting East, others are reporting the holdup is due to Lyon what want to regulate when the deal is announced.

Who knows the right answer? Certainly not the papers!

6.) 09 Jun 2018 12:44:13
They wouldn't know to what extent the knee is troublesome until a medical was done, only Lyon would be privy to that.

7.) 09 Jun 2018 12:47:01
As silly as paying 50m for someone who might be unable to play to a standard we want for a long amount of time?
This is why they have medicals.
If Fekir isn’t deemed fit enough for the investment then we’ll move on to another target.
People need to calm down.

8.) 09 Jun 2018 13:41:58
It was nothin to do with medical it’s the negotiation side.

9.) 09 Jun 2018 14:05:26
An how do u know that mate, no one has a clue except the player an the 2 clubs, I just don't believe anything til he signed an holding the jersey.

10.) 09 Jun 2018 14:19:41
Apparently because of the medical results with his knee, they are trying to renegotiate the fee particularly to do with add on clauses in case he has any issues with it in the future. Higher insurance premiums due to his medical results etc.

11.) 09 Jun 2018 16:39:34
Not claiming to be ITK or anything but It’s down to the negotiations with Lyon over payments

. Apparently Liverpool have offered around £53million plus a curly wurly if reports are to be believed but Lyon want £53 million plus 2 curly wurlys because they aren’t as big as they used to be.

12.) 09 Jun 2018 17:17:47
I can back Robbos claim up, it’s spot on, Curly Wurlys have reduced in size.

13.) 09 Jun 2018 17:32:47
he passed medical. lyon delaying due to financial reason as it public listed linked to stock exchange. after the 30th june is start of new accounts. therefore from 1st july lyon can report instant share boosting profit of €60m. shares went down when lpool were linked shares went up when he denied it. its all a game by lyon. not the medical if he failed medical then deal would be off.

14.) 09 Jun 2018 18:47:17
Spot on, Riomanzy. Bobby, it is a circus if you are on twitter.

15.) 09 Jun 2018 14:01:40
Cheers ed. silly season is truley upon us again 😂.

{Ed025's Note - aint it just bobby..

16.) 09 Jun 2018 15:03:54
Are you talking about the WC Ed putting stupid prices on players?

{Ed025's Note - not just the prices barry but the logistics of trying to agree terms etc while the player is in training with their national side mate..

Ed002 if your about

I know this is a Liverpool page but I'm a bit curious as to what's just go on with the young keeper Chelsea have bought. I read an article the real nearly signed him in Jan for £18mill I think it was . And now his price is at this . I heard the kid bought himself out of his contract as per the release clause. But prices for buying players from Europe in particular Spain are very very high . Is that down to a big injection of cash into Spanish football and they don't need to sell or is it a case of they know English teams inparticuar.

Bobby_finbar

{Ed002's Note - He signed a new contract with a very high release clause and Athletic did not want to sell, but under Spanish law a player has the right to cancel his contract by buying it out. Obviously he did not have the €80M but Spanish law was changed to allow a player to be present when the amount is paid (via him) to the Spanish FA rather than accruing any tax, which players with Buy Out clauses would in other coutries if the money passed through their hands. There are two points of note: (a) all players in Spain are required to have such a clause in their contracts, (b) if invoked, the player has to pay the full amount.

It is nothing to do with cash injections, English clubs or anything else, it is a legal requirement.}

1.) 10 Aug 2018 19:41:20
Wow, good question and good answer.
Has the law been changed permanently then Ed02.

This is where I sound stupid so I'll ask the fellow posters rather than waste ed02's time. Yesterday I saw a post here saying alisson was no longer the most expensive keeper. I assumed Madrid had paid a shed load for courtios and broke the record. But I'm wondering, is it this youngster who has broke the record from athletic. Was this to reimburse him for buying himself out, last sentence for Ed02 if you're out there ed.

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea paid the €80M for Kepa.}

2.) 10 Aug 2018 20:04:45
Thats great insight ED02, a real education for those of us that have an interest in the football industry off the pitch as well as on it.

Your insight and input is why we appreciate you participating on these rumor sites.
Please think of these when others become rude or offensive towards you.
There are many many of us, on here that greatly value you and appreciate your opinions.

Thanks to you and the rest of the ED's you make it a great place to be.

{Ed002's Note - Post of the day.}

3.) 10 Aug 2018 20:12:19
Heys ed02, I'm trying to understand the bit where you said - "so Spanish law was changed to allow him to be present when the amount is paid (via him) to the Spanish FA rather than accruing any tax, ".

So basically he just had to be in the room to in effect "pay" his release clause? But that it's xtully Chelsea's money? Seems like a fair compromise!?

{Ed002's Note - Effectively yes. However, if he had the money to buy out his contract he could make himself a free agent.}

4.) 10 Aug 2018 20:24:34
Cheers Ed's.

Probably a very dumb question but who is avoiding accruing tax in this scenario?

{Ed002's Note - Nobody, but if a club were to lend a player the money to buy himself out of a contract elsewhere, it would be taxed as unearned income so it would effectively cost double for the transfer.}

5.) 10 Aug 2018 21:13:44
Echo that! Great post and answer! Thanks Ed2. Just another example of why this is the best site on the web.

compliments to all the Ed’s and Reds for making this site what it is, Ed’s hard word is so appreciated by the real fans.

So excited for Sunday, feel like Liverpool are on the verge of an amazing season!

YNWA.

6.) 10 Aug 2018 21:28:05
Great posts and great replies by Ed2. Hope life is treating you well Ed mate.

{Ed002's Note - Life is fine right now thanks.}

7.) 10 Aug 2018 21:55:19
I'm glad to hear that Ed2. Have a good night mate.

{Ed002's Note - And you.}

8.) 10 Aug 2018 22:13:23
Cheers for the reply Ed02. So is kepa worth all the trouble. Behind oblak wasn't he? Mind you most keepers would be behind him.

To me it just smells of abramovic splashing his ridiculous wealth on an unproven player. To join Chelsea over stocked squad of technically great players who don't get in the team. I notice there are no Chelsea fans here today calling us hypocrites.

9.) 10 Aug 2018 22:15:37
Ed002 seems the kind of guy you would go for a pint with when you want a proper intelligent stimulating conversation and you'd come away learning a lot!

10.) 10 Aug 2018 22:13:23
Cheers for the reply Ed02. So is kepa worth all the trouble. Behind oblak wasn't he? Mind you most keepers would be behind him.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, but it is a lot of money. He was not behind Oblak in any way - Oblak does not play for Spain, De Gea does. He is not an unproven player and the club had a great deal of interest in him. Which of the goalkeepers that Chelsea has will keep him out of the team? You post smacks of a complete lack of knowledge about the player, who he played for and anything about Chelsea.}

11.) 10 Aug 2018 23:18:53
Thanks Ed02 - just wondering why it’s a legal requirement as I assume other professions don’t have clauses like this, is it down to the length of the contract and inability to hand in notice like people can do in other jobs?

Also if you don’t mind, given it’s a legal requirement, how do they set the number? Surely if a club just wants to stop the buyout from triggering they can set it at a number that can’t ever be hit (say 1billion if you wanted to take an extreme? ) .

Many thanks.

{Ed002's Note - The law exists to give protection to the players to allow them to move, because as you say, they can’t simply resign. The club sets the number but the player has to agree. The club offer a financial incentive to set it high. The player won’t want it to restrict a potential move.}

12.) 11 Aug 2018 01:47:18
Thanka again ED02.
That was another golden nugget of info I learnt from your reply to SGRed post.

This proved to be a very enjoyable and informative thread.

I think you should have your own sticky tab where all these - and not specific transfer related - info is kept/ stored. Not sure that is possible but it would make it easier than the search feature on here.

Regardless, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.

13.) 11 Aug 2018 02:48:35
Thank you Ed - are there any other countries with similar rules or just Spain?

{Ed002's Note - None have identical rules.}

14.) 11 Aug 2018 05:10:19
Different athletico's. I sorry Ed02. I thought kepa was from Athletic Madrid, its bilboa isn't it. Any way my apologies Ed02. If he really is great then he's going to be there for years, it's an investment. Better than shmiceal or butland. Is butland really playing in the championship? He's too good for the champ. Surprised he wasn't snapped up.

{Ed002's Note - One is Athletic and one Atletico so they have different names as well. He will have more first class experience than say Alisson and was chosen over Donnarumma, so he is perhaps not the unknown and unproven player you think.}

15.) 11 Aug 2018 08:56:34
Ed02 I think the poster saying he was behind oblak has confused athletico madrid and athletic bilbao as being the same team :)

{Ed002's Note - So it seems.}

16.) 11 Aug 2018 10:15:50
I personally think Chelsea have done absolutely right by paying what it takes to sign a genuinely top class keeper. Throughout Abramovich's reign Chelsea have always sought to have a top class keeper between the sticks, because they know the value a top keeper brings, and I think it's smart. The value of a top quality goalkeeper cannot be underestimated and is often one of the key differences between success and failure at the highest level.

Excellent info as well Ed, very interesting.

17.) 12 Aug 2018 02:52:31
so interesting, cheers ed2.

18 Jul 2018 22:02:20
With us splashing some big bucks on Alisson would that in reality end the possibility of a deal for fekir? Or did that deal have no relevance on the fekir deal
( asking as we have forked out a fair bit already this window now)

“I know” that fish loving is wrong, but whenever I see a wide mouthed bass, my legs go all wobbly and my heart flutters.

Should I be concerned, or is it just a sturge (on) that I’m going through and I’ll soon be eeling better?

Anything for you, Salah mate 😘.

{Ed033's Note - If you get a sturge on over bass you're in trouble

3.) 22 Jun 2018 01:34:05
Expected Zed to reply

“Him so wellllll”.

4.) 22 Jun 2018 07:44:30

You haddock go and say that, didn’t you 1jj! 🎣.

6.) 22 Jun 2018 09:14:34
Zed - fish puns? This is not the time or the plaice.

7.) 22 Jun 2018 09:28:17
Hahaha! No need to carp on about it, on your pike mate. Zed taking all the puns, quite shellfish really.

8.) 22 Jun 2018 09:34:23
"time or the plaice"

That old (john) dory chestnut.

We should dolphinately scale back on the fish puns, I'm not squidding either.

9.) 22 Jun 2018 10:11:27
I sea what's happening here. I was going to be salty and point out that Dolphins are not fish, but I thought it would be shellfish of me to ruin your fun.

10.) 22 Jun 2018 10:39:36
These fish puns are Kraken me up but coming up with a new fish pun is a pain in the bass.

11.) 22 Jun 2018 11:27:37
Come on guys, you're just krilling it now.

12.) 22 Jun 2018 11:46:15

Evening eds

I heard a little while back when everyones name was being thrown into the hat of players we was signing about the young lads from burnley pope and tarkovski (if that's how its spelt) . but i've heard it again this time from a burnley source that a double swoop is very much on the cards from us for them both?

Is there any real concrete interest from us in either of them? Im a big fan of both i know its only one season for pope but the way he's matured over the season he's got a very bright future and tarkovski is still a bit raw but he will be immense next to someone like VVD

Apologies if this has been repeatedly asked.

Bobby_finbar

1.) 15 Jun 2018 00:04:56
Pope has had one half decent season in a very average career and Tarkowski is a lumpen man united supporting donkey. Not the sort of players who will turn us from also rans to champions.

2.) 15 Jun 2018 00:42:40
Tarkowski, no. What when we have 3 better players in his position in lovren matip and gomez.

Pope though, 5 months ago I'd have said no way but his good form doesn't look like dipping.

The line between success and failure is often very thin. If Heaton had not got injured then most of us would laugh at the idea of signing pope as no1, as it happens he has kept Heaton out and for me was one of the biggest shocks last season, rivalled only by salah I'd say. The lad was great. I don't think we'll sign him, it is only 1 season but I reckon he will continue to improve and be good in Europe. Fair play to him.

3.) 15 Jun 2018 07:55:03
Seem to remember mignolet been exactly the same at Sunderland.

Totally agree ed002 it would be a massive blow to Gomez if he was to sign vida. I thought I recalled he (Gomez) was highly thought of and I agree he's not a youngster anymore I wasn't meaning that when I said potential more as he's never had a run of games in his natural position CB but has had to cover and fight for that what was once vacant RB slot. I think he would do well next to VVD given the chance and a run of games. Lovren game pick up significantly when VVD came in and also think it could have same impact on Gomez at CB. don't see the point in paying that sort of money for let's be honest another average at best defender in vida when you have someone already in squad in Gomez Matip klavan who can play there.

You don't rate him then ed002. still think he's very raw for me still lot of potential next to the right partner (VVD) hopefully that potential will be fulfilled.

Bobby_finbar

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with my rating him. He is no youngster, has had an OK season but a good WC apparently - I see him as an over-priced knee jerk reaction if Klopp wants him. Would it also be a kick in the gonads for Gomez?}

Question about Gomez, with TAA making that slot his own and Clyne now being fit and most likely 2nd choice at RB would Gomez now be first choice back up for one of the central defensive role ahead of Matip and klavan? If so vida wouldn't be needed in my eyes and makes no sense . Or is it thought within the club he's not ready yet?

Bobby_finbar

{Ed002's Note - I don't see Gomez as a first choice back up for any position to be honest.}

People keep say sturridge needs moving on he's got to etc. not as simple as that, his wages are massive and club won't take that gamble because of his injury record . I personally think we as fans need to look at it from a different angle
Most are correct in saying others are more suited to the style we play than sturridge is, but sometimes we need something a little different in certain games, a selfish forward in the box, a fox in the box etc and in sturridge we have that
If and it's a big if klopp can get him on board with not playing every week and him staying fit and sharp (which to be fair he looks fitter now than I've seen for a while ) then he could be invaluable to us this season and is capable of picking up 10/ 15 goals and turning them games we drew last year after dominating and having chance after chance in to a win.
