Hi all just wondered if people had seen the reports of matip possibly been banned during the African nations cup. Apparently Cameroon are looking at it as he has refused to join up with the squad. Surely this can't be right after all he has the right to choose if he wants to play or not.

It's all media rubbish! The players are contracted to their clubs, not the national team. All Cameroon could do is never select him again, but that's it.

Personally, I think it's terrible that he's chosen not to represent his country. The man is a role model for young children and playing for your national team should be an honour. Mané's still going. I'm glad he isn't going like but i'd be happier about him as a person/ professional if he was. It would show that he plays for passion and not just the coins.
{Ed001's Note - I agree it is an honour, but why is it terrible that he has chosen not to represent his country? What have young children got to do with it? Why does playing for your country mean he is playing for passion, when it comes with salary bonuses to his contract and personal benefits, such as increased exposure and earnings from sponsors? You might disagree with his choice, but you are judging him based on nothing, it is just as possible passion is why he is not going, but you know absolutely nothing about the situation and have decided to criticise one of the players you are supposed to support.
This decision not to play for Cameroon while he sorted out his career was made a while ago, and his national team was well-informed and have been kept informed. There should be no issue here at all. Cameroon have deliberately turned it into one for their own reasons and that is their choice.}

At the end of the day he was born and raised in Germany so he probably just doesn't feel that passionate about representing Cameroon. Can't blame him, especially with what African fa's are like with paying players late and stuff. Was it Cameroon who had to fly a plane of cash to the 2014 World Cup because they hadn't payed the players or something?

Didn't he say as soon as he signed we didn't need to worry about him going to the AFCON because he wanted to establish himself and settle at Liverpool first otherwise the move would be pointless. I for one feel it's commendable that the player wants to put us first.

Yeah top notch, if this with Fekir does happen we're laughing. I imagine it to be Fekir, Keita, Hendo with Fabinho rotating with TAA and Hendo.

Hey Baytay. Eds will likely know more, but Fekir is an attacking player, has played centrally both as an advanced midfielder and a ‘false 9’ type player. Has quick feet, a few tricks and his main asset seems to be close ball control. Keita is a very energetic central midfielder, very quick, strong in the tackle and has one hell of a shot on him. His major asset seems to be getting the ball foward quickly and keeping up with the play, receiving the ball back from foward players and driving foward at pace. Seems to be a very good all round midfielder that will certainly add creativity to the team. A few attitude issues there though it seems. Fabinho is a more defensive able midfielder that has and can still play at full back. Has good positioning, tackling ability and can pick a few decent passes. He does drive foward effectively on occasion but don’t expect it too often. This is all just my opinion by the way based on what I’ve seen in European games. I’m sure others have seen them than me.

Steven Gerrard was a world class midfield on his own!
Gerrard and coutinio was pretty good
But yeah, wow what a team, what a statement. Looking at our performance against Madrid, we couldn't do anything with the ball, kept playing back to Vvd 3and Hendo then just hoofing it. I love Hendo and lallana but they simply weren't good enough, lallana was the man who could have created something but he did f all.
Let's hope they gel, it's going to be 5 man midfield eh 4231.hendo and the ox have a good chance of playing and gini in the back 2.

Maybe as Kieta and Fekir along with our current front 3 we have so much attacking pace, power and work rate, goals all over. Now may be the perfect time to add Fabinho a true dm into the mix to even the balance a little. Also give Trent more freedom to get forward too.

Just watching match of the day. I didn't realise emre had run from our goal to support salah when he scored. He looked really fast kept up with salah and mane. Good on him.

I had a different thoughts on the game before the kick off ( The usual style we play ) Though the display was completely against my expectations. Live chat means presenting / having your say on that moment.

Yes I saw that also, it was harsh. I was thinking before the game that Can might well be brought into the team but I thought it would have been at the expense of wiji instead or origi as that's the usual switch we have done in the past. Only other way I could see us lining up was the exact same way as stoke but he changed it up a bit and I found it great. It shows he's improving vastly in regards to handling the premier league and changing tactics to suit certain opposition. These guys that say things like that in the chat have to refrain from judgement a bit until the match actually has talking points. But fans are different and we all have our opinions so questioning if they are thru and thru is also a bit harsh.

I don't get why people are so obsessed with getting a striker. It's firmino that creates the goals with his movement, his touch and his ability. I wouldn't want yo see him replaced up there. When he's on form we r great. He's the perfect foil for mane and salah.
