Hello Ed 02. You mentioned Liverpool had a look at Renato Sanches before, had that interest gone or he is still under consideration in the coming window?

Banda

{Ed002's Note - I expect Liverpool interest to have gone.}

1.) 18 Apr 2022 16:26:14
Thank you for the reply. But do you know of any new midfield targets?

{Ed002's Note - none beyond those I have mentioned in the last month or two.}

2.) 18 Apr 2022 18:19:28
That’s a relief Ed. Can’t help but think it would be throwing good money away.

3.) 18 Apr 2022 20:18:50
Can anyone be a good sport and point me in the direction of the two edoo2 said hve used the search function?, it’s Vitinha I think and no clue on the other?

4.) 18 Apr 2022 22:16:16
Wasn’t it Carvalho and Bowen? I might be wrong though.

5.) 18 Apr 2022 23:52:00
Carvalho and Bowen aren’t centre midfielders like Sanches, they’re who we have looked at as attacking players.

6.) 19 Apr 2022 01:21:37
Yeah, thought that but there was a discussion aboUt Carvalho playing midfield for Fulham this season and I thought I’d seen his name and Bowen’s in a discussion about likely targets after we got Luis six months early.

7.) 19 Apr 2022 03:53:59
The two targets mentioned were Vitinha and Otavio.

28th March 2022. {Ed002's Note - Obviously both Gallagher and Bellingham would be very good additions but Liverpool won't be signing either this summer. As I have said before, I think something can be done with Fabio Carvalho as long as the club don't try to low-ball Fulham. Youri Tielemans is available, has been scouted and would be a good signing - but there is interest from elsewhere. I would hope that Klopp is persuaded to drop his interest in Renato Sanches. Bissouma would be a very good signing but interest may have moved on. But if you want my opinion, there is ex Manchester City youngster, Seko Fofana, who plays for Lens who is attracting the attention from elsewhere. I am told by someone from one of the interested clubs that they think he will only get better - and he has the knack of scoring goals. But Liverpool has no interest as far as I know. }.

8.) 19 Apr 2022 12:36:55
Thanks ArAy.

9.) 19 Apr 2022 13:08:20
I don’t see the fuss with Tielemans, the odd goal aside, he doesn’t work hard enough, is quite sloppy in possession and his defensive game is pretty non existent.

10.) 19 Apr 2022 14:10:11
NathLFC, from what I can tell, it seems Liverpool is flirting with the idea of adding a midfielder, but isn't 100% committed to doing so. They likely need to see how things play out with some of our current players.

With that said, currently, it seems we have a primary interest in Tielemans, and possibly Otavio from Porto. Not interest in adding both, but one or the other. Bissouma does not seem to be on our current list of desired players despite being a great fit for the squad.

I may be off the mark, but I try to follow Ed's notes closely and compare them to rumors that are floating around elsewhere. It's been a really effective way to vet what is going around the rumor mill.

11.) 19 Apr 2022 14:41:07
I think the midfield is fine. Fabs is great and Thiago is coming into top form. Hendo still has something to give and if Keita keeps up his current form and tidied up those moments of loose play that still exist he can be an asset. Add in Jones, Elliot and Carvalho with Morton behind them and I don’t see why we would need a new midfielder. TBH I don’t really see any weak area of the team currently, RB cover aside but we have Bradley there if Gomez and Williams leave. Now is the time to continuously plan for the future and bring in players to eventually take the place of our established starters as we have begun doing with Diaz, Jota and Konate.

12.) 19 Apr 2022 15:33:13
Westwood666 - I'd argue we're missing a player with athleticism and speed in our midfield mix. Thiago, Hendo and Keita all give us options but we really need a Bissouma/ Tchouameni type to avoid games like Brentford, Chelsea and West Ham away happening.

13.) 19 Apr 2022 17:26:44
A modern day yaya toure would suit us just fine a player that can boss the midfield and get forward and defend not a clue who that is but that’s the type of player our midfield needs .

But pretty sure every midfield in the world could do with 1 of them.

14.) 20 Apr 2022 00:19:58
Think we definitely need to bring in a midfielder. Henderson is showing signs age may be catching up to him, Fabinho class, Thiago class but frequent injuries, Naby seems to have turned a corner but again frequent injuries, Ox struggling and seems to be off, Milner way past his best, Jones and Elliott not quite at the level yet and Morton a long way from ready.

I see Carvalho coming in as a long-term false nine Bobby replacement and providing versatile cover in the short-term. With Milner and ox likely off think there’s space for a younger yet ready midfielder to come in.

I’d love Tchouameni but he seems Madrid bound (especially now Harland seems to be heading to City) . Out of the options I’d personally be happy with Vitinha. Looks a real player, just won the midfielder of the month in Portugal for 4th month running so must be doing something right. Still young and technically very good. Loan spell at wolves didn’t go well but they were playing horrible football under nuno and he was being used completely out of position as part of the front three. More of a Thiago type (not quite there yet mind, but no one is)

15.) 20 Apr 2022 09:11:29
Otavio is 27, last chance for Porto to cash in, could be a deadline staring contest kind of deal. Intrigued by Vitinha, right age, spend time with the wolves, so acclimation should be easier, we have a portugese speaking contingent to help with that too. Liverpool have done well with players that have played for english clubs before.

I still think Klopp will go for a ball carrying type of midfielder, he went after OX, Keita, Shaqiri, none had the long term impact Klopp has craved. None of the Otavio, Vitinha, Bissouma have that skill. I think it's why the Renato Sanches rumors persist. Curious if Eds could give us couple names of central midfielders that exel in taking the ball in deeper positions, turning, possibly making a defender miss, running at the defense, making it collapse and slipping a thru ball to an attacker. I understand that in today's game, those types of players are not very common.

16.) 21 Apr 2022 05:58:54
I think you are right that Klopp is after a player who can slip the tackle and promote the ball forward from midfield but from what i understand I think Klopp is grooming jones to be that player.

17 Apr 2022 09:44:15
Hello Ed02, do you think Liverpool will look to add more players in the coming window? If so, which positions will be prioritized and who do you think will be realistic targets?

Banda

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool will need RB cover, an addition in midfield, RW cover as TM and AOC will likely leave. If there are major departures then perhaps more.}

1.) 17 Apr 2022 10:50:23
Young Calvin Ramsay at Aberdeen is highly rated up in Scotland and next Scottish full back in the pipeline coming through after Robertson, Tierney, Hickey and Patterson .

Would be great cover for Trent in a couple of years time if signed this summer but would need a bit of developing before then to get up to speed, could Hendo cover there if needed in short term with Gomez away this summer?

2.) 17 Apr 2022 11:27:37
There's this lad in the Championship who looks decent. Neco something his name is. He could provide RB cover?

3.) 17 Apr 2022 11:38:21
Neco would b perfect cover silvered but he won't stay 2 b back up. Him and kelleher will want to play regular 1st team football at this stage I would guess . unfortunately.

4.) 17 Apr 2022 10:44:47
Who have they got in mind for those positions eds? Happy Easter.

{Ed002's Note - It is too early to say what the solutions will be.}

5.) 17 Apr 2022 11:17:24
Is Gomez definitely leaving? I really rate him I think it’d be a shame if he went.

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in him but nothing definate that I am aware of.}

6.) 17 Apr 2022 11:50:15
Ramsay from Aberdeen is going to be a v good player I’m from Aberdeen and watch him weekly in the flesh. With right coaching he could be next level. Ed2 is there interested as reported? Be a coup if we did.

{Ed002's Note - Calvin Ramsay (RB/RM) has attracted Premier League and Serie A scouts to Aberdeen with declared interest from Bologna, Sassuolo, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester United.}

7.) 17 Apr 2022 12:34:10
Thanks ed2 fingers crossed we make a move.
I’m
No scout but he looks very very good.

8.) 17 Apr 2022 20:52:24
When you say TM you mean young morton.

{Ed002's Note - No, Minamino.}

9.) 17 Apr 2022 22:40:27
Do the club see Pitaluga as good enough to act as no 3 keeper now or will they be looking for experienced cover?

10.) 18 Apr 2022 07:57:12
NKA Considering Pitaluga hasn't played a single senior game I'd expect an experienced 3rd choice keeper will be brought in. Someone homegrown would be handy.

11.) 18 Apr 2022 01:31:31
Would Van den Berg be viewed as cover on the tight side of defence? He seemed (seems? ) to be earning praise at Preston. Assuming Neco, Joe and the ever reliable Millie go it leaves us a bit short of depth (and PL experience) on the right in TAA, young Bradley and perhaps Van den Berg.

{Ed002's Note - I would think Van den Berg will get another loan as Liverpool need to make decisions over their CBs.}

31 Jan 2022 22:13:30
Hello Ed02 with deal for Carvalho nearly agreed, do you see Liverpool pushing to buy another midfielder in the summer?

Banda

{Ed002's Note - Yes, Carvalho is young and an AM. I suspect a CM will still be necessary.

1.) 31 Jan 2022 22:32:46
Does/ will be count as home grown ed please?

{Ed002's Note - Obviously not now, but will in the future.}

2.) 31 Jan 2022 23:02:06
Too late - window now closed!

3.) 31 Jan 2022 22:52:34
Thanks for your great work Ed. Do these deals have any effect On Salah staying? Hopefully it will be other players leaving instead.

{Ed002's Note - Not at this time, but eventually there needs to be a transition for the front three.}

Dear ed002 and ed001 seeing that we are linked with Robertson. How do you rate him? Do you think he can improve our team if we sign him?

Banda

{Ed001's Note - I have answered this question a hundred times now, he can cross with his left, so won't keep cutting back on his right, so he would be a minor improvement.}

1.) 04 Jul 2017 19:43:18
That is about where the improvement ends, I'm afraid.

2.) 04 Jul 2017 19:55:33
I've seen plenty of Robertson since his Dundee Utd days and I've seen him in the flesh a couple of times playing for Scotland. If he does sign for us I'd be happy, for what I can see we'd be getting a relatively young player in a position that needs strengthening. He has international experience and premier league experience . He also comes across as being very grounded and looking to improve as a player which I'm sure he would under Klopp.

3.) 04 Jul 2017 20:45:32
Considering we're in the champions league we need better then Roberson but I will trust Klopp on this one.

4.) 04 Jul 2017 21:19:18
Look Robertson isn't top draw but he is a better defender than alonso at Chelsea and they did OK.

{Ed025's Note - no hes not ace..

5.) 04 Jul 2017 22:03:06
Hull had the worst defense in the league last season compared to Chelsea who had the best, how are people coming up with rubbish Robertson better than Alonso!

{Ed025's Note - search me mate..

6.) 04 Jul 2017 22:01:27
Imagine we play Barcelona in CL: Messi v Robertson. Not pretty. However if he wears the shirt I'll back him and hope Klopp can take him up a level or ten.

7.) 04 Jul 2017 22:06:19
Sorry Ed25 should have put imo. Btw I'm talking about his defensive side to his game you watch Alison next season, awful.

{Ed025's Note - chelsea play a different system ace and hes an integral part of that mate..

01 Jul 2017 11:42:33
Hello ED002 how do you rate Salah? How much do you think he will improve our team next season?

Banda

{Ed002's Note - Salah is a very good player indeed who sadly did not settle at Chelsea for a couple of reasons. He did well at Fiorentina but was not entirely settled there so he went back to Chelsea before a very successful couple of seasons at Roma. Because of his natural position as a left footed right winger I still think Klopp's first choice of Julian Brandt would have been the better option as his natural position is on the left wing. Regardless, Salah will be a very good addition.}

1.) 01 Jul 2017 11:56:02
Thank you ed002.

2.) 01 Jul 2017 13:11:57
I agree ed, I think Brandt would have been great. Do you think Mane may return to left side, a position he has played previously? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I would hope not as he has been successful on the right.}

3.) 01 Jul 2017 13:52:03
Genuinely looking forward to seeing them both giving full backs a hard time.

4.) 01 Jul 2017 16:13:45
Thanks for being so genuine Hansens Scar.

5.) 01 Jul 2017 16:28:17
What a nice thread with no silly questions and know rose tinted niave coments. nice ey edd!

{Ed002's Note - Yes it is Billy.}

6.) 01 Jul 2017 19:43:57
Ed01, Brandt recently came out and said that he did not move to us eventually, cos he didn't think he was ready to make the jump to a bigger club and needed to develop further at Bayer Leverkusen. He may have been a better option BUT Salah is more than a good addition as he is more proven as Brandt is, IMO and will improve us as he and Mane can play either side of our fluid front three.

{Ed001's Note - erm pardon?}

7.) 01 Jul 2017 22:29:52
I personally think Salah will start on the right with Mane on the left allowing both to cut in on there favourite foot with our fullbacks overlapping to create the width.

27 Jun 2017 08:40:51
Dear Ed002.

First time posting on this forum. Thank you for the good work. I wanted your opinion on our current squad. Do you think it was strong (good) enough to win the league?

Banda

{Ed002's Note - No it needs to be improved. Bad decisions were made over a number of key positions in recent windows.}

1.) 27 Jun 2017 08:57:36
By recent windows. do you mean in Klopp's time too? Don't think Klopp's signings have been that bad. Agree about signings under Brendan Rodgers. Too many mediocre players signed under his watch.

{Ed002's Note - Caulker, Klaven, Karius, and what happened with Ward were hardly great choices in my eyes - but hey if you are happy.}

2.) 27 Jun 2017 09:05:49
in my opinion we need 3-4 singnings (not saying we should go for them this summer) : decent LB, strong CB, another creative CAM (for the time Coutinho needs a break) and a solid GK.

The LB and CB Situation will be solved this summer, at least i hope so. The other CAM and GK aren't that important but i think would be helpfull with the GK more important imo. Mignolet and Karius are both solid but nothing compaired to lloris or Courtois.

We could also solve the CAM problem by buying a good Striker because Firmino played as a CAM for Hoffenheim and done a really good job there.

But those are just my thoughts with probally a lot of people disagreeing. :D.

3.) 27 Jun 2017 09:11:10
Hi ed002 100% agree with that answer.

4.) 27 Jun 2017 10:11:29
Rodgers did also bring in some of our best players. Both Rodgers and klopp and every other manager in the world buy players who succeed and some who fail.
Does everyone rate lloris? I'd say he is far from solid. Makes some right howlers coming out for balls he has no valance of getting. I'd put Mignolet on par if not ahead of him on Simons end of season form, and most of the season to be fair.

5.) 27 Jun 2017 10:39:14
Yeah I totally agree Ed and Mark.

Matip, Widj, Mane, and that Salah no pedigree what so ever. What is he thinking.?

I mean Karius and Klavan should have hit the ground running really. Every player needs 2 games to settle before a constant barrage of abuse.

In fact if we don't win 10 nil in our opening fixture I think I am done with this good for nothing, lying, cheating, under performing, good for nothing club.

But don't worry I'll still sing you'll never walk alone before every game and some times at the end before I start moaning.

Peace Brothers ✌️.

6.) 27 Jun 2017 10:59:12
lloris has a good back line in front of him that's the difference though.

7.) 27 Jun 2017 12:50:09
Nice one, Alfie. I agree JTaylor that a good backline will always help any GK regardless of his talent or lack thereof. Karius and Migs never had that until recently and that is where improvement is needed as Karius is a very talented GK, no question and Migs has upped his game as well. The backline is where we need to improve first and foremost.

8.) 27 Jun 2017 12:42:33
Alfie, Ed002 was referring to the reasons for transfers as well as the players.

Caulker - we did not need a CB, he was rarely if ever used as a CB and therefore was a waste of wages and/ or any bonus he got for joining on loan. The only saving grace is that he was a loan not a purchase so less of a waste of money than otherwise.

Karius - was bought to be No 1 and then dropped after a couple of poor performances which are only to be expected from a young player in a new league. With hindsight, it may have been better to keep Ward and give him a go in rotation with Migs, and therefore save the transfer fee. Karius may yet come good, but its looking increasingly like Ward OR Karius, not both. GK is one of the positions that you really don't need much competition for, as GKs tend to work better with confidence in them rather than constant chopping and changing. Of our 3 most successful GKs in recent history, their understudies a) got no more than a handful of games in their entire Liverpool careers and b) were not world class GKs themselves (thinking of Clemence era, Grobbelaar and Reina) .

Klavan, hasn't exactly inspired confidence, although been a solid 6/ 10 in most games. Has ended up being used more than I expected, so not as unnecessary a signing as first thought and one that, on balance, I would disagree with Ed002 and say he has been an OK piece of business. However, may be been better to use Ilori or Wisdom to finally decide on them rather than loaning them out.

As I said, of the 3 pieces of business mentioned by Ed002, I agree Caulker was a waste of money; Karius/ Ward could go either way as I still see Karius as a shrewd acquisition, but I see that it would have been better to either give Ward a run, commit to Migs or buy a proven No 1; Klavan in hindsight has been OK in my view as we've ended up needing that extra CB due to injuries, but we'll never know if Wisdom or Ilori could have been equally effective and saved the fee.

So, what Ed002 is saying is not "these players were rubbish so chastise Klopp" but "these players were not needed, so save the money to put towards the targets that were", for example coughing up the extra for Chilwell by saving on Klavan, or going back a bit further, pay the extra £500k for Ali.

Its got nothing to do with writing off a player before he has signed, or not supporting them on the pitch, its all about best utilising our valuable cash.

9.) 27 Jun 2017 15:35:39
Zeddicus: i fully agree with you. Karius was also dropped because of all the media attention he got. Every week he got shat on in the media and if you have that presure on you, espacially if you came from a small club like Mainz to the PL. If he gets enough confidence he is a very solid keeper as he as proven to be in Mainz.

Klavan is a funny one. He never really struck me as a stong defender for Augsburg. To be honest the only times i noticed he were when he scored goals and i rarely miss a weekend of Bundesliga football. Also Klavan didn't believe that Liverpool was actually interested in him. Klopp had to sent him a picture/ facetime him that he believed it. He thought Klopp calling was a prank. :D

And to round it up i think Caulker was a solid striker.

10.) 27 Jun 2017 09:50:27
Would last summer not be seen as a successful window? some smashing players brought in at decent prices. Also. if the club can bring in the players we seem to want, it'll be the best summer window i can remember at Liverpool.

{Ed002's Note - What did it bring in terms of success?}

11.) 27 Jun 2017 11:52:31
Ed Caulker cost us nothing and at least Klopp learned not to listen to certain people. Klavan's not bad backup for a fiver and it's too early to judge Karius imo.

I think the fact that last summer 32 players were sold, released or loaned out must emphasize what a huge renovation job had to be done after the Blunderbuss Brodgers years.

{Ed002's Note - Caulker did not cost nothing. How many of the 32 players were first team players. Why is the club going nowhere after all of this money has been spent. Ah, transition.}

Dear Ed001 I'm very concerned with the issues you raised above. Isn't there someone or some way we can advise the club on the way this tapping up has ruined our reputation in the transfer market. Secondly, how much influence would the supporters have on how the club conducts business. Usually we are important. The general feeling on this forum is that tapping up is not good. We need this message to be put across to the club. Are you able to help us there?

Banda

{Ed001's Note - the club employs people to watch fans forums across the web, they will be aware of what is said. Unfortunately the running of the club is still as amateur as in the days when it was all run out of a room above a pub. Hopefully the new man will change that, but it will take him time to do so. You can't just change it over night.}
