Putting the mid-week game behind us what does everyone think for the weekend game?

By my count I think there will be 18 different players on the pitch between both sides.

Do you think it will be a similier game (tbh i thought both sides were sloppy with possession) with a moment of brilliance winning it?

Personally I see us being more comfortable in this game, mainly down to both CB and LBs. We hopefully will have a fit VVD to come back and hopefully Rudigar will not be back for Chelsea.

Also we have a better LB coming in and where as Chelsea have the same with Alonso he is, for me, equally in adequate at defending as Emerson proved to be.

Thoughts?

Chelsea is a very good side, They can get compact and there midfield is second to none. our front three are not having a free run at their defense. if we attack through middle and exploit their two center backs we could win this game. but we don't really have a target man of sorts neither is that our game.
Also we have to keep a look out for hazard and willian who are both capable of individual brilliance. I think this will be a boring draw with both managers cancelling each other out tactically. its at the bridge i won't get hopes high. i see a draw.

2.) 28 Sep 2018 11:51:57
Yes. We'll have to keep a look out for Hazard and Willian. They should keep a look out for Mane, Firmino and Salah.

3.) 28 Sep 2018 13:23:54
If van dijk doesn't play i think chelsea's main threat will be giroud against matip or lovern. Our full backs seem to be set up to let wingers have a bit of space initially. They aren't closed down straight away in certain areas. If van dijk doesn't start chelsea would do well to get it out wide asap and get some crosses in.

Our biggest threat will be salah in this game as i think chelsea are primed to be hit with fast counter attacks. Mane will drop a bit deeper as he has been doing of late. If salah stays on the shoulder i would expect him to get a fair few chances.

Could well be a game of who deals better with their chances when they win the ball back high up the pitch. Chelsea press hard and if that initial line of pressing can be got through when we are coming out from the back there will be spaces everywhere.

I think bobby mane and salah's movement up top might be a bit too much for chelsea.

Van dijk is a massive loss for this game if he is not fit. Fingers crossed.

4.) 28 Sep 2018 13:30:30
We'll win tomorrow mate, no doubt about it. Bring them on, Chelsea have to be respected but can they match a full strength Liverpool? No. Im not going to sit here and say we can beat them 4-0, I think it'll be a very close game but we'll do it I have no doubts.

5.) 28 Sep 2018 13:47:16
I'm with you salah, Chelsea are on for a hiding. Vvd will be back, robbo dealt with mbappe he will handle hazard, with the big man behind him.

Milly, hendo and gini

And then boom

Salah, firmino, mane. Woops.

We need to beat them, that will completely wipe our the league Cup loss.

We are top of the league, say we are top of the league.

Let's sort our goal difference out.

Classic 4 0 or 5 1.

6.) 28 Sep 2018 14:23:23
You'll wake up with your head in the porridge lad.
We will do very very well to beat Chelsea.
They're just as capable of doing damage to us.

7.) 28 Sep 2018 15:30:12
Totally with you Salah mate.

8.) 28 Sep 2018 15:42:59
Chelsea are at home which is always a positive. Plus hazard is expected to start as well Giroud. They are quality and if you give Jorginho time and space he will simply make you pay!

9.) 28 Sep 2018 15:44:47
Jorginho will dictate the game from the deep!

10.) 28 Sep 2018 17:38:23
Harry, does Kovacic know that you are now flirting with Jorginho? He'll be upset, you know.

11.) 28 Sep 2018 17:54:08
Our first choice midfield have won every midfield battle so far this season, no team have dictated the game against us. Gini and Milner have been immense, Jorginho won’t get the time and space that he’s been used to!

12.) 28 Sep 2018 17:57:30
Look, you played Liverpool 2nd team the other night. I know you fielded a weaker team too.

Our 1st team is a hell of a lot better. Who said "wake up with porridge in your head. We are the team that beat city 3 0, roma 4 1, Porto 5 0. Arsenal 4 0. We can thrash top class teams on our day. We will win, I know that and I think you will get blown away by the champions elect, with a point to prove. Its what the team needed, a kick up the arse.

{Ed002's Note - All of these comments are from Liverpool supporters. You don't need to start dragging up the feeble excuses for Wednesday again.}

13.) 28 Sep 2018 18:42:23
Welshred our 2nd choice midfield bossed Chelsea on Wednesday after the first 20 minutes. Jorginho is a good player but he won’t have been hit from all sides before like he will be tomorrow. He’ll kack his pants!

14.) 28 Sep 2018 18:52:12
I think some of us are overconfident in our chances.

We haven't played well enough this year to be smashing everyone in the world 4-0, we haven't nearly hit our best yet. I think I'd take a point away at one of the top 3 teams in prem. hoping to then beat them at home later in the season!

15.) 28 Sep 2018 21:32:33
It will be a tight game tomorrow for sure, and totally different to weds night but even with that in mind I still think we will win 2-0.
I'd take a defeat on weds night if by the time we have played city we are atleast 5 points clear at the top of the prem, yes we want to do well in all comps but it is very unlikely we would win all four in the same season and the premier league from a supporters point of view has to be our priority. 28 years of pain will be no more come may2019 and lfc are crowned champions of the premier league for the first time in the history with many more to follow.
YNWA.

16.) 28 Sep 2018 21:27:29
We will win 3-1 simple.

Salah, mane and Gomez.

17.) 28 Sep 2018 22:15:37
Would love to see Gomez score one kloppsboss that'd be brill mate.

18.) 28 Sep 2018 22:34:47
I think our fanbase we're incredibly arrogant going into the cup game. No matter the changes, Chelsea have quality players.

19.) 28 Sep 2018 23:14:18
Make no mistake about it, Chelsea have a damn good team and a damn good squad and are more than capable of beating us tmrw. That said, our boys (second string if you like) should have pummeled their second team the other night with the chances we created. I mean, Studge could have had a hat trick and no one would have blinked had his finishing not deserted him in the game. I mean, even Gianfranco Zola (one of the best players I have ever seen in my life) said so in his post game comments about how LFC should have won the game WAY before they scored their two goals. The thing is that tmrw, there are match-ups that work for and against us. If VVD does not play, how doe we deal with Giroud? How do we deal with Hazard? And for Chelsea, how will Jorginho deal with Bobbie sitting on top of him when their CB's are in possession? How will their defence deal with our front 3 esp. with Rudiger not sure to play? How does Chelsea deal with our pressing game in midfield? These things are the reasons why this is a tricky game to call. As an LFC fan, I back our boys to win every game we play so we go for the win.

Hi Eds,

Weird question but when players are transferred between different countries (lets take Fabinho as an example) which law do they use for the contracts? Is there a standard everything is English and Wales law or is it always the selling club jurisdiction for example?

Or is it simply governed by a footballing body (FIFA, UEFA) and nothing to do with individual countries common law or statute?

Thanks for all the work you guys do as always! I know I am repeating a number of others but please don't let the idiot posters give Liverpool fans an even worse reputation!

Angry and illinformed

{Ed002's Note - The new contract is applicable to the country of the club buying the player.}

1.) 29 May 2018 12:30:09
Thanks Ed2.

Sorry if I am misunderstanding (highly likely), but I understand that the new employment contract will be under the applicable country.

I was more concerned with the actually documents dealing with the player transfer from one to the other?

Thanks again for the response.

{Ed002's Note - The standard FIFA forms are used.}

2.) 29 May 2018 13:34:43
Thanks Ed!

Sorry if I have missed it but has there been any update on Can lately? Clear now that he isn't staying but has he officially signed for anyone?

Angry and illinformed

1.) 23 May 2018 15:33:26
I believe nothing will be announced until after the CL final.

2.) 23 May 2018 15:37:54
Basically waiting to announce it after the final.

3.) 23 May 2018 15:41:05
Nothing confirmed yet, albeit increasingly nailed on for Juve based on various media reports.

Of more interest to me is whether he has a chance of being fit for Saturday. Would be good to have some more options in midfield should we need them off the bench.

4.) 23 May 2018 15:47:33
We won’t see any formal news until after the CL final.

5.) 23 May 2018 16:11:12
I was thinking about whether he would be involved in the final (if fit of course) . Part of me thinks he shouldn't be as he is leaving and that space could be used for someone who is staying with the club.

Alternatively with the injuries we currently have in midfield his presence off the bench could be very useful in a final. I think if he is fit Klopp will have him on the bench.

6.) 23 May 2018 16:24:08
I know what you mean, A&I, but I would rather we win it. If Can is fit enough and is best placed to come off the bench and help us do it, then that's what I want. Not interested in cutting off my nose to spite my face, lol!

To be fair to Emre as well, we can't complain about his attitude on the pitch. He's been a model pro despite the fact he is most likely leaving. Pretty certain his injury is more than a bad back!

7.) 23 May 2018 16:32:28
My thoughts exactly Zed. Can't blame a player for wanting to move on - people do it in 'normal' jobs all the time!

I hope he is fit as having some energy to come on in midfield or even to try and change the game (hopefully it is won by that point though! ) would be very helpful.

Otherwise if we are in front (touch wood) we'll get the Klaven on and shift to a back three special.

8.) 23 May 2018 16:58:38
Definitely NOT the Klavan option, imo, we have conceded 5 out of our last 6 goals doing that!

I'd rather we got on some fresh legs (Salah HAS to finish the game, tho! ) and carried on in our style. Or a switch to the 4-2-3-1 formation with Solanke harrying them in the later stages.

9.) 23 May 2018 17:13:34
This must be the slowest week I've ever known. It's worse than December the 20 somethings when you're 8. It's only Wednesday! Aaaaaggghjhhh.

10.) 23 May 2018 18:14:15
We have paid Can's wages this month. In that case he should be in the squad.

11.) 23 May 2018 19:25:13
Spot on, Zed. Seen fans on SM saying it would be a disgrace if Can played the CL final cos he's off to Juve and does not wanna sign a new deal? Really? What a bunch of spoiled snowflakes throwing a strop cos an LFC player does not wanna do what they want. I doubt if these people know anything about the business side of football. If Can is fit, he plays (as a sub or starter) cos we are going to need his energy and athleticism at some point in this game.

12.) 23 May 2018 19:32:34
We need the best players available to beat such a good team as Real .
Keegan left after we won in Rome and Souness left when we won again in Rome we all knew they were leaving but they played Fab games in their final match for us.

13.) 23 May 2018 21:37:27
If Emre Can is able to help us win the final he should be in the squad, I don't care what he does the day after.

14.) 23 May 2018 23:08:47
It was known all season that Keegan would be leaving after the final match. The only problem for Keegan was that he was expecting to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona. When it turned out that neither wanted him and after all his big talk he went to the only foreign club that did want him - Hamburger SV.

15.) 24 May 2018 01:06:38
smicer too!

16.) 24 May 2018 04:24:02
We play the best team to win - I’m sure he will give his all regardless of whether he’s contracted or not, and we can’t have a grudge just because he’s chosen not to renew (just like Milner did) .

I too hope we don’t go down the three CB route. We should go 4-4-2 or even 4-5-1 and let the midfield kill the game rather than relying on CBs to head everything away for 20mins against the likes of Ronaldo.

Yeah i don't understand this assumption that something must be wrong in the fact he hasn't really played.

Everything is currently going well and people should enjoy it!

I think he is still coming back from his injury, but I may be wrong.

I am not saying that mistake wouldn't have happened I just think with some fresh legs in midfield we could have added a third before PSG got their second.

But as I said before, a brilliant result and who I am to tel Klopp to fix what isn't broken!

I've got to disagree there (not about Matip! ), I really thought Klopp could have bought another midfielder earlier as the game became more open and before Liverpool conceded the second.

I think Keita would have eaten up that space that was being left for the midfield to run into. Obviously an incredible result but I think with earlier subs it would have been far less dramatic!

I am sure ED02 will correct me, but as I have read it, Saints have an obligation to buy but there will be certain conditions where that obligation falls away i. e. an injury to Ings which means he is out for a certain time period.

But I have guessed that from reading these comments so could all be wrong :)
