BREAKING NEWS
CAZROLA to join LIVERPOOL after the replacement has been found for Villarreal the fee has been agreed
P.S:just to wonder people that when we look to the transfer activity we can see that Liverpool buy the player after many bidding so the different bid for the same player mark that he is in the kk wish list.
AND expect a huge signing to surprise the hole world.

i wish Liverpool would make a double swoop of 35-40 million for Lyon pair, Aly Cissokho and Michel Bastos.Would be well worth i'd say. What fo you think eds?
YNWA
GibbzeeLad {Ed033's Note - Lyon will charge us with their "Premier League" fees, which could see us spending up to 60 million on the pair, which sounds ridiculous but it their way of business}

Hey All Eds Great work as always;

Just wanted to pass on a rumour that I have been told, it may be way off the mark but my firend often goes to the Legends dinner at Anfield so is in touch with people at the club, he said that Aquilani may go back to Roma with Doni and Riise coming back to LFC in an exchange, I think that would in theory wipe any debt we have with Roma re; Aquilani.

I would happy for Riise to come back to see out the remainder of his career and act as a role model for the young mavinga to follow.

Andy R {Ed033's Note - I am led to believe that Doni will be arriving on a free transfer, and that Liverpool are looking to be recouping money for Aquilani, not player exchanges, hence the reason the Felipe Melo/ Sissoko swaps were eagerly dismissed.}

Liverpool have been granted a reprieve over plans for a 60,000-plus-seat stadium at Stanley Park after planning consents expired last month. The local‑authority deadline for approved works to take place elapsed on 19 June gav33

06 Jul 2011 22:47:05
If we want two buy mata we should give 14 million in cash and aquilani two them.

i beileve it would be a great deal 4 both clubs

please post

ed002 wat do u think?? {Ed009's Note - not sure Ed002 is around unfortunately, so you'll have to put up with me. Whilst it would be agreeable for us, I don't think Valencia are looking for midfielders when they have a similar player in Banega. Player swaps are also very rare in reality, especially with high profile players.}

06 Jul 2011 22:43:53
Ed i saw that both dan roan and tony barrett(in tommorrows times) are saying that villa have told downing he is not for sale and dan roan said reports of selling for 20m are wrong as they are not selling him at all. Do you think we will up our bid enough to get him as i don't think villa will expec 17m or so as they got that for young with only 1 year left on contract? {Ed033's Note - The board at Liverpool will set specific amount in which they will bid to, Aston Villa have placed a 19 million price tag on Downing and will only start negotiations at that point. It is in Liverpool's hands now, we can up our bid to Villa's asking price and then things might pick up the pace. Expect developments in the coming days.}

We have had a fee agreed for pepe's mate carzola from valencia.they have now found a replacement for him so will let him leave.personal terms and a medical to be done by friday.

06 Jul 2011 22:39:33
If the deals for Doni, Adam & Downing go through, that still leaves us needing a CB, RM, LB & ST. I'm thinking that RM will be least important out the positions we need. CB will be Cahill or Dann - LB's are a premium & with Enrique likely to be off to Barca, I'm not sure who we have shortlisted. I'm thinking the ST & RM position could go hand in hand so a move for a versatile player like Mata, Shaquri etc could be high on the list. Chelsea under Mourinho played with two flying wingers in Duff & Robben (both left footed) switching flanks & very effective.
Ed, know of any other players for these position we could get?

Gav the RED {Ed009's Note - for centre back I think we could see Dann, despite Stoke's interest. Left back is very hard to read; Enrique is still an option, but I think we will see someone from abroad - ideally Cissokho. I'm not entirely sure we will see a striker, unless we can find a wide player who can also play there. I would suggest Mata is the most likely at this point in time, but Cazorla is a possibility.}

dont want to jinx out but charlie adam is a liverpool player 100% because he is wearing liverpool shorts during his medical

Hi Eds,

Just read on Marca that the Valencia chairman has confirmed that Mata will be staying with Valencia.

i am still hoping we get rid of some our fringe players - surely some of the newly promoted teams are interested ?

Portuguese Red {Ed009's Note - There is interest in Cole and we will no doubt see him move on. Similarly, Jovanovic will probably leave, as will Pacheco. Aqualani and Meireles are both possibilities to go but I know of no interest at this time in Poulsen, who himself is in no hurry to leave.}

06 Jul 2011 22:34:28
ed what do u think will happen with pacheco? and do u think were guna start to see sterling next season in the 1st team? {Ed009's Note - I am afraid that Pacheco could well move on if anybody is interested in the player. He is undeniably talented but just hasn't worked, and that is nobody's fault. Since then he has shown a lack of willingness to work hard in training and earn a starting berth. If no one is interested then he will go on loan again. Sterling will get a few substitute appearances no doubt but won't be starting regularly, we don't want to risk burnout that could halt his development significantly.}

06 Jul 2011 22:32:28
Been told by liverpool reserve player that we will not get Jose Enrique as Barca have made him a priority. He also said that Defoe is our main striking target although he doesn't think Defoe will sign because he might have to warm the bench We won't sign a cb either as he thinks kk will try push Martin kelly back into his natural cb position once a LB is signed, so Johnson can go back to Rb That will leave new LB, insua, aurelio and Robinson on one side and Johnson, Flanagan and kelly if need be at Rb More than enough cover

06 Jul 2011 22:21:59
Ed, can you tell me why if Liverpool buy an English player we have to pay an inflated price, due I'm sure to the homegrown players rule. But in the case of Aqualani the Italian teams are only willing to pay £6m even though he's a good age and a full international. Surely at even £10m that would be a good buy considering the homegrown rule? {Ed009's Note - They're offering us so little because they know they can hold us to ransom. He wants to go, we don't need him and so they think we'll accept whatever. On top of that we paid a laughable figure for him at the start - we were a laughing stock in Italy after that negotiation.}

06 Jul 2011 22:17:48
Just heard from a good source that Mata was a done deal months ago. He will be finalising the agreement some time next week after they have been awaiting for a Liverpool player to be available for negotiations in a part-swap deal. My money is on Aqualani.

06 Jul 2011 22:16:25
Hey Ed's please post in rumours, i know its a question but i dont look at that part.
do you think KK will give Insua a chance at left back, he doesnt look podgy now and when he first come on the scene he looked really good.
thoughts???

{Ed031's Note - You're lucky I'm a nice Ed.}

06 Jul 2011 20:45:08
Have a good source at Anfield and he says we are looking at taking back Crouch in a swap deal for Cole.
Also KK is looking at Owen Hargreaves on a pay as you play deal.

06 Jul 2011 20:38:10
Ed, would u expect more transfer activity by sunday? as we are leaving on sunday and we might want to take any new signings with us? {Ed002's Note - Guess work to say one way or the other.}

06 Jul 2011 20:35:08
ed with the capture of adam have we dropped are interest in sissoko?DORSET RED {Ed002's Note - I don't know at this time. I think much may depend on who leaves.}

06 Jul 2011 20:23:49 Got told today that Napoli and fiorentina are the latest clubs to have enquired about Aquilani Aquilani's replacement looks set to be the Comolli favourite Moussa Sissoko, a fee of 14 million should be enough to capture him In o
----------

I can confirm fiorentinas interest and did state it not too long ago but they are only willing to pay 6m for him.

06 Jul 2011 22:12:58
are we still interested in jeffren? a joint bid for him an bojan would be two good signings {Ed009's Note - I don't think so - Downing is the number one target for the wing and then probably Mata. He is not good enough anyway, tonnes of pace but no end product. Bojan looks likely to sign for Roma.}

06 Jul 2011 21:48:33
Yo eds. Do u guys reckon we will even put an offer in for a player outside the premiership? Because i have got a feeling once we have got downing and possibly enrique, we will be done n transfer market. Wicked site, r lass is gunna divorce me for being on my phone so much coz of this site Thanks eds keep up the good work. Shabba. {Ed029's Note - There is still a chance of Mata, but other than him and Sissoko, who has now been linked with Man U making an offer for him, it seems to have gone quiet so you may be right. I personally think there is another unexpected deal in this transfer window that no one will see coming}

06 Jul 2011 21:30:02
Evening all,

I am hearing that a new bid will be made tonight for Downing - - approx £17million with additional 2 million through league position etc - eds you heard anything about a bid going in again this evening ?

Thanks as always

Jamie {Ed029's Note - There are rumours of this in the press and I believe there will be one final bid made}

06 Jul 2011 21:13:51
Eds do you know anything on Mata situation {Ed029's Note - Nothing further to report, sadly I think it could depend on Downing rather than as well as, let's hope I am wrong}

06 Jul 2011 21:11:43
if tevez goes to real madrid which seems likely would higuain be available and if so would we be interested {Ed029's Note - A striker is not the current priority, but it could change, although they are more likely to get rid of Benzema who IMO isn't anywhere near as good as Higuain}

06 Jul 2011 21:11:05
eds are we interested in anthony monier or karim ait fana or jimmy briand ? all are french league players and how about ryad boudebouz ? {Ed029's Note - There was interest in Boudebouz, who fitted the criteria and would have been available for around £5m but it doesn't seem to have been followed up}

06 Jul 2011 21:15:38
Have you any info on a left back, we could be looking at Ed, thanks.

Blair Mayne YNWA {Ed029's Note - Nothing new I'm afraid, it seems we are concentrating on securing Adam and Downing and then it is likely we will see some movement with Enrique still looking the most likely

06 Jul 2011 21:08:45
I reported last nite thered be news of a signing tday but i did say it was downing so wrong there but i can also tell u we will make two more signings by sat one being downing for 17 mil to 18 the other i think may just be doni not sure on that but will defo be 2.

theturdz here just got the first foto of adam having his medical about to upload it on the liverpool sightings post ed take a good look at the appointments board behind the doctor im sure there are more names booked this week for medicals could be more signings on the way.

06 Jul 2011 20:48:35
Ed, it is now all but fact that at least one of Meireles and Aquilani will leave (I would have like to have seen them both stay but now Adam is unfortunately coming who I don't rate half as well as either of them). Is there are chance that at least one of them will stay? {Ed029's Note - Of course there is a chance, but I would expect Aqua to go at least for a fairly knocked down price. £15m would also be good for Meireles if we could get it as he doesn't seem happy at the club due to his lack of a pay rise etc. We can't keep players who don't want to play for the club, no one is bigger than LFC}

06 Jul 2011 20:50:27
Just heard that Man Utd are about to bid for Moussa Sissoko :(

06 Jul 2011 20:26:58
Hi Eds...good work & enjoy the site....
I live in Anfield & as usually this time of year the grapevine is buzzing...some sound realistic & some are just plain toilet talk :) but one guy who is quite solid & has ties to the club has told me a few, he's usually pretty reliable & told me bout Henderson & Carroll before they happend...please dont shoot the messenger but here are his predictions....

Downing.....a £17million bid will be last & LFC will hope he puts a transfer request so they will then hold more of the cards in this deal and possibly force through an original £15million deal....
Mata......greatly admired but LFC are not prepared to go higher than £22million as unproven in Prem but if Downing falls through bid will be made & possibly even if Downing does sign.
Alonso......only if they can secure under £15million & only if both Poulson & Aqualani are off the wage bill....
Millner.....if deal can be struck for £20miilion or less and again the likes of Cole, Jovanovic & maxi need to be off the wage bill.
Adam Johnson......if City buy a player in his possition apparently there is a gentlemans agreement we have 1st refusal & player & LFC are very keen....
No news on LB or CB but as far as this big signing the 2 names muted is Gomez from B.Munich and S.Aguero....I know you think that is pure fantasy but apparently they are waiting to see what sort of fee is getting muted around & if they can get him cheaper than his reported £39.1million release fee but there is an interest but nothing formal at the moment........again dont shoot the messenger but the guy is usually pretty good & I reckon they are not totally unrealistic (unlike some of the rubbish I've heard this week...is Messi still househunting in Bootle by the way lol) ..... KK always keeps his cards close to his chest.....what you think EDs would love to hear your opinion
keep up the good work
RedJohn {Ed002's Note - That will be about £250M spent this summer then. Lucky the owners don't care about money.}

06 Jul 2011 20:23:04
Ed002.I know you rate Vargas highly and also Bastos. Simular age, positions, any where on the left hand side.Nearly same age and would cost roughly the Who do you think would be a better fit for Liverpool and who would be more likely to join in your opinion if any? Jonson6 {Ed002's Note - Vargas but I am not convinced that either will sign now.}

06 Jul 2011 20:11:15
Ed002

You said earlier that you think Kelly will make the RB position his own. I don't know why most people want to see him at CB? Who cares if he started his career as a CB? The way he came through into the first team at RB proves that he needs to stay at RB so I would agree with you and he is a better defender than Johnson anyway.

Where will this leave Glen Johnson though, will he be a bench warmer? {Ed002's Note - There is enough room in the squad for both and Johnson can play further forward and on the left.}

06 Jul 2011 20:32:08
One of the youngsters going on loan to Blackpool is Stephen Darby

06 Jul 2011 20:06:57
Ed has Downing handed in a transfer request, and if he has will this help to hasten his departure to Anfield. {Ed002's Note - To the best of my knowledge no, but he may well need to do so to give Aston Villa a little more cash.}

06 Jul 2011 20:06:05
very reliable source, KK is set to give up on Downing and go for Brazilian, Michel bastos for £12 million, i personally think that he is much better than downing

hello, liverpool supposedly lining up a 12million move for michelle bastos as his move to juventus collapsed
ed how do you rate him and his chances of coming to liverpool out of ten {Ed002's Note - 2/10 - he is 28 soon and will cost more than £12M. But a great player though. Certainly would end any thoughts of Mata as well so would save me a lot of typing.}

06 Jul 2011 19:54:51
liverpool are willing to offer 15 mill and joe cole for downing deal should be done tomorrow or friday

Done deal: Cristian Zapata has shunned Liverpool's interest and agreed a deal with Villarreal.

06 Jul 2011 19:23:03
{Ed002's Note - Sturridge is not being sold, certainly not for £6M. If the player wants to leave Chelsea he will be allowed to and it will be for guaranteed first team football elsewhere. They would be looking for something like £20M.}

============
I might be wrong too old and bad memory etc , but in January did nt chelsea offer 40m + Sturridge for Torres? which would've valued him at 10m not 20?

Roy

{Ed002's Note - Things have changed a lot since then. He has been out on loan and done well, he has played for the National side, and he has no more baggage to speak of.}

06 Jul 2011 19:21:40
ed it says on ssn that there will be a lfc youngster or youngster going to blackpool on loan.
any ideas on who they are?? {Ed002's Note - There is some speculation earlier, but I cannot help. Sorry.}

06 Jul 2011 19:21:08
Eds do you think now Glen Johnson has signed a new contract and the emergence of Flanagan, KK will look to move Martin Kelly inside to centre back? Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he start his career in that position? I also think this maybe a reason as to why any interest in a centre half has cooled.

Somerset red {Ed002's Note - I think Kelly will make the RB position his own and perhaps Flanagan will get a loan and experience. It depends also on who comes in at CB, if anyone.}

06 Jul 2011 19:19:35
Ed do you think that it would be better for us to sign an out and out winger first as although Mata is a very good player but we actually need an out and out winger first.that is why it seems club is giving priority to downing because we already have wide players who come inside in middle but we do not posses an out and out winger.
On top of your mind which are the other proper wingers who are realistically targets for us except downing and now Bastos with your inside info taking into account..

Regards
Red Indian
PS: does my fellow reds feel the same and have any more names to add. {Ed002's Note - I suspect that Downing is choice 1 and will take the out and out role. If not Downing, perhaps Mata but I doubt both. N'Zogbia is an interesting option as he can fulfil both LB and LW roles. Much will depend on what happens next in terms of a further bid for Downing or not. From that, once we know, I imagine the story will be easier to fathom.}

06 Jul 2011 19:18:15
Ed do you think we will bid again for downing and will agree a fee or will we move onto other targets like mata and possibly hazard(ian abrahams from talksport said on twitter we are interested)? {Ed002's Note - I suspect Liverpool will bid once more, will say it is the last bid and will complete the deal for £16.xM or 17.xM. I am not convinced that Downing and Mata will both be completed, so if Downing fails perhaps Mata will be an option - there is much discussion on the subject earlier today. Hazard remains most unlikely.}

06 Jul 2011 19:18:05
You most probably will not believe this but from a very good source, Didi Hamann has had talks with Carra about joining him as a player coach at Stockport. Carra knows he is ageing and sees this as the perfect chance to get into management which may later see him at lfc as a coach. Expect a cut price deal as the club honours what he has done

06 Jul 2011 19:17:47
{Ed009's Note - Mata is far from completed and no one should get ahead of themselves, but I feel positive about the idea of a transfer for the player - he would be very interested and Villa's aggressive over-pricing could lead us to try for him instead.}
Ed009:
I 'll repeat what I replied to you a week or so ago, I dont think Mata will be leaving Spain and not to us any way .. I hope I will be proven wrong , but cant see us getting him as things stand atm.
I think Downing will happen before the end of this month.

Roy

Does anyone know how much Adam has cost? Will it come out or will be undisclosed? {Ed002's Note - Around the £9M mark obviously plus VAT etc..

Downing will be a done deal by friday morning. Followed closely by Joss labadi, young prospect from league one and Kirk Douglas who is currently at hartlepool, 17 year old centre back.

would love to see Mata and another forward but am not holding me breath.

Dont know how new or old this is....

Liverpool are considering a bid for highly-rated Lyon winger Michel Bastos.

The 27-year-old Brazilian say a proposed deal to Juventus collapse and now Liverpool are prepared to meet the £12m asking price for the player.

Bastos can play on the left-wing or at left-back, two positions Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is eager to strengthen ahead of next season.

The Brazil flyer has earned rave reviews for his performances in Ligue 1, and French sources claim the Anfield club have already made contact with Lyon.

Dalglish is determined to sign Bastos, having endured a frustrating summer so far despite the arrival of Jordan Henderson from Sunderland for £20million.

Michel Bastos and Ezequiel Lavezzi are now targets of Liverpool to.

06 Jul 2011 17:47:27
ed are the rumours about us preparing a bid for bastos true and would he be bought as a wing back or winger cheers eds {Ed009's Note - as far as I know we are currently focusing all our efforts on signing Downing. Bastos is a good player and could provide options for the entire left hand side, though I see him better suited to left wing. If we were going to sign anyone from Lyon, Cissokho would make more sense.}

Hi Ed, just seen the training photos on LFC.tv and saw Emiliano Insua. Do you have the good news that he has signed a new contract with us? {Ed002's Note - Sorry, this is an evaluation week really. He is contracted for another year, but I have no idea what the plans are with him.}

06 Jul 2011 17:10:34
eds... do you think there will be any other players sign before they go to asia... i think downing might or maybe a left back {Ed009's Note - I think Downing could well sign. Only when that is done, or we have moved on, will we look at making a move for any other players.}

06 Jul 2011 16:59:38
Hey Ed, just wondering what the fee is for Charlie Adam and which player(s) are going to Blackpool as part of the deal, if any? Thanks in advance.

06 Jul 2011 16:59:32
hi ed, their are links with us and lavezzi with certain football agents eg carrie baird saying we are interested and met with his representatives. Do you think if we clear the deadwood that we may sign a player like lavezzi(doesn't have to be him) as a suprise signing like macca has said there might be ? {Ed009's Note - unless we sell all the players we hope to, I can't see another striker at all being signed. There is not an endless pot of money and Downing seems to be the priority at the moment.}

06 Jul 2011 16:46:13
very happy with adam on his way just hope he passes his medical which he should , Ed is there any news on liverpool still interested in scott dann? would love to see him sign {Ed009's Note - the player looks destined to sign for Stoke provided Dann agrees to do so, which I feel would be a shame. There may well still be interest but the club are concentrating on other areas at this time.}

06 Jul 2011 16:36:23
you eds have some great sources, any thoughs on whether or not mata will sign or anyone other than downing and enrique basicallly ? cheers jw91 {Ed009's Note - Mata is far from completed and no one should get ahead of themselves, but I feel positive about the idea of a transfer for the player - he would be very interested and Villa's aggressive over-pricing could lead us to try for him instead.}

Ed, do u expect any news on Downing today? {Ed009's Note - I expect we'll hear more news this week, on whoever we do sign - simply because we want to get them to Asia with us. Whether thats Downing or not depends on how far Villa go.}

06 Jul 2011 16:47:56
Ok I know this isn't a transfer rumour and I understand that some people on this site make up utter nonsense when it comes to sightings and speaking to a player's brother's dentist who says that this player will sign and that player won't etc. This is 100% true however. I live in Formby and at lunchtime I was in Formby village with my friend and Gerrard was sat on one of the tables outside of Costa with two of his friends. As we walked past my friend shouted over to him 'Stevie, hows the groin?' to which Gerrard replied 'It's getting better now mate thanks'. I then asked him if he would be fit for the start of the new season and he said 'Yeah I will be mate, no problems' and we left it at that, not wishing to disturb him any further. This dispels any talk that he won't make the first game of the season after announcing he will miss the tour of Asia.

First time post, but hopefully first of many, so will keep it short and sweet.

Firstly, really good site, i have been monitoring for about a week now

I to spotted the Charlie Adam news that you broke about the medical hrs earlier, so i went to place a bet on the bookies and they had even suspended it then as was nowhere to be found

so thanks for the quality of information and an almost thanks for nearly winning me some money, ha

will look forward to news that you bring and feel free to throw in, who you think would realistically be worth a little bet on

Cheers Eds...... {Ed002's Note - Mourinho to be Liverpool's next manager. Just kidding by the way.}

06 Jul 2011 16:16:15
Eds if we sign Stuart Downing does that rule out the signing of Juan Mata? I can understand why KK would want Downing but I would be disapointed if we didnt at least bid for the hugely impressive Valencia man.

P.s. chuffed about Adam. Here's to hoping Enrique, Dann, Mata and Downing will round off the summer. {Ed002's Note - I don't think it rules it out, but I suspect it lessens the chances of it happening. For me it was likely to be one or the other but not both.}

06 Jul 2011 16:43:58
Hey eds well done you were spot on about the adam deal and announced it miles be4 anyone else so thx and keep up the gr8 work :) do u think that there is a higher chance of signing mata or downing as villa dont seem willing to negotiate a smaller fee. cherz again. {Ed009's Note - I think Downing remains more likely simply because we know for a fact he will choose to join us, and that there is less competition for the player. The only thing that will stop us is if they ask for a ridiculous fee for the player. Mata is possible and there is a lot of buzz about a potential transfer. We could of course sign both...}

06 Jul 2011 15:58:43
To Ed: Do u think now Adam should be signing, that Meireles is on his way out. With Henderson also signing someone has to make way. I know you need strenght in depth, but surely they, ll have to sell at least one central midfielder to make a balance. Don, t want him to leave, but i think he will. And do u think they should pay the 19m asking fee for Downing, it, s no secret that they really want him already bidding 15m, do u think they want him that bad that they will pay just to get him. I know he, s English but i, d have N, zogbia for 9m, and put the other 10m towards another target. {Ed002's Note - I am not convinced about Adam as a player, but he will be signing so he has to be given the support of the fans. I suspect a fee for Dwning will be agreed around £16M or so.}

06 Jul 2011 15:48:33
Ed, who's next now after Adam? Lol {Ed002's Note - I think there is actually a good chance of Downing.} how close is Downing ed?

{Ed002's Note - It is difficult to say, there have been a couple of rejected bids and I suspect a final one will be made. The player will certainly need to hand in a transfer request to ease the financial situation.}

06 Jul 2011 16:42:47
So we've signed Adam for 9 million. Apparently Ever Banega was available for 8.5 million.

Don't get me wrong I'll support the lad but I feel we missed out on a better player who is younger for less. {Ed009's Note - I doubt Banega will make a move for 8.5 million this summer. What's more, unlike Adam, he isn't proved in this league and whilst a top player, commands huge wages and has a very high opinion of himself.}

06 Jul 2011 16:35:01
Eny news on matias slyvestre eds? Thanks {Ed009's Note - I'm afraid not, I believe we are pushing for other targets before looking at the defence.}

Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has signed a contract extension at Anfield.

06 Jul 2011 16:22:44
hi ed, seen some 'rumours' that liverpool might be interested in david bentley. obviously we haven't put an offer in but i reckon he would be gr8 as backup 4 maxi, kuyt or whoever plays on right next year, but only if we can get him4 under £5m

06 Jul 2011 16:13:37
I believe the fee was closer to £6 million, i maybe wrong..

Cheers

Macca {Ed009's Note - with add ons? I heard it is to be a total of 9 million, but I am pretty sure that is the total.}

06 Jul 2011 16:08:16
Glen Johnson has signed a contract extension.

Good news :)

06 Jul 2011 16:07:38
Things are looking good, Adam deal in progress, Downing nearly in the bag, two cracking signings. If we get Mata and fill the left back problem, you have to fancy us to push for the league title. Good times ahead fellow reds. {Ed009's Note - Adam deal is finished provided he passes his medical. The fee will total 9 million pounds with add ons - a great deal in my opinion - and he agreed to wages a long time ago - in the region of 30,000-40,000 if I remember correctly.}

Ed i said yesterday (and last week) that Liverpool would sign 3 players Wednesday/Thursday before we go to Asia and 23 people disagreed and only 2 people agreed... It seems when you do actually come across info people just wont believe you on here... I understand that alot of people write some stupid stuff on here but I dont put stuff up unless its genuine, i've said before that my girlfriends brother is good friends with a couple of Liverpool players and that any news I hear is through that connection or friends around Anfield... I'm not looking for praise or anything just that people need to understand that some people do actually have good sources and are genuine...
Thanks for all the good work you do Eds, some people should understand that the Eds run this site for free and they put alot of work into it every day and night to help the "fans" with any questions or opinions they may have... Thanks to Ed002 in particular who seems to be the main man/woman on our Liverpool page.

Matias Silvestre could be on his way out of Serie A side Catania in the summer transfer window as fellow Italian outfit Juventus have joined Liverpool in the race for the centre-back's signature, Mediaset Premium reports.

Catania's general director, Pietro Lo Monaco, recently revealed that the English side are interested in capturing the 26-year-old, and Juve have now added the Argentinian defender to their list of potential reinforcements.

Silvestre has a contract until the summer of 2012 with the Sicilians and an offer in excess of 5 million could be required to secure his services.

The stopper started his professional career with Boca Juniors and joined Catania in January 2008, where he has made well over 100 official appearances for the Angelo Massimino side.

What's your view on this eds? I don't recall seeing him mentioned previously. {Ed002's Note - This is a real old article about Silvestre - perhaps a month or so. Try the archives.}

06 Jul 2011 15:09:47
Eds fantastic news on Adam in regards to Mata who do you think stands the best chance of getting him Arsenal or Liverpool? {Ed002's Note - I suspect Arsenal will be one of a number of clubs to bid. For me, perhaps Downing is number one still for Liverpool. If Liverpool are pushed in to bidding then I suspect the player will prefer Liverpool. If Barcelona bid then I suspect he will move there.}

06 Jul 2011 15:08:54

Ed a very important question from you I hope you give the answer.
There is a lad Macca fellow red brother who is saying regularly that Liverpool will not sign any foreign players.
I find it completely Bogus to me it seems that we are first signing players who are absolute necessity i.e 1 out and out winger + 1 Creative midfielder+1 Right Midfielder+ 1 Left Back .

After that if we sell our deadwood and some other not required players , I believe then we will go after the so called luxury players if right ones are available.
Is my theory right or Macca's that there will be no foreign signings.

Regards
Red Indian {Ed002's Note - I guess you need Macca to answer this, but I am not aware of him saying "regularly", if ever, that Liverpool are not going to sign any foreign players. Back in the day he said the targets were Adam, Young and Benzema - two of these are foreign. Things have changed as they do, and the feeling is now that Adam, Downing and Enrique are the primary targets. Again two of the three are foreign. So perhaps you have misunderstood something he has said, I am not sure. As for your theory, I don't know what will happen. There has certainly been interest in a number of other players - we will see where it takes us over the next few weeks.}

Hi fellow Reds,

Just wanted to confirm something that I had said all the way back in January.(feel free to verify this)

Liverpool are trying to sign more African players, and they are going to bid for none other than Ghanaian striker: Asamoah Gyan...

Kenny Daglish sees him as a somewhat different sort of player compared to Andy Carrol, Luis Suarez and Dirk Kuyt.
Pace, Power and Premiership experience is vital... but as Daglish has demonstrated, he wants players who are willing to give everything for the sake of the club, and anybody who has seen Gyan play can verify that he certainly does not lack passion on the field.

Ed, are u sure Charlie Adam has a medical at 4pm?

only you seem to be putting your head on the block a bit.....are sky sports likely to report this when he arrives at melwood? {Ed002's Note - I don't know any time of a medical, but agreement has been reached over a transfer. The fee is in the region of £9M and agreement was reached last night. An e-mail confirming this was sent to an absent director which is how I heard. Ed001 and Ed003 heard independently of this. I suspect Sky will be running around and whipping everyone in to a frenzy when the medical takes place. I remember a well known player who, about 10 years ago, borrowed some crutches and left his medical on them in front of the press. Oh happy days when footballers had a sense of humour. Now reading and writing is a bonus for many of them.}

Ed's,

Do you if we are intrested in Gary Cahill? Owen Coyle keeps going on about clubs being intrested but making no bids and I was just wondering if we are at all involved?

I am starting to think no one is really intrested in him @ £18m and Coyle just keeps going on about it hoping someone comes in and buys him so he has some cash to spend.

I think he is better than Dann but wouldn't pay more than £12m for him. {Ed002's Note - I thought Arsenal had an interest.}

06 Jul 2011 13:19:42
Was speaking to a Liverpool soccer schools scout when taking my brother to a session... said Adam deal is done and has been done, was all just a matter of agreeing a fee. why oh why are we actually bidding for Downing - thought it was all a smoke screen and that we wouldnt actually buy 2 over-rated and expensive english players We are not going to be competing for champions league with rubbish like downing in our team. Hate to say this but Man Utd have bought very well this summer - unlike us. If you want downing click believable, if not then you know what to press {Ed002's Note - There are no smokescreens.}

Eds, regardless of Liverpool signing Downing, what are the chances of them making a move for Adam Johnson if City sign another winger? {Ed002's Note - It is possible - but I am not sure what money is available.}

06 Jul 2011 12:30:28
ed i maybe mistaken but its has been stated that bastos plays left wing and left back. but he always plays on the right wing for lyon? what his position? and even on fifa it says that his a central attacking midfielder lol {Ed002's Note - Bastos is a left sided player - and nearly 28.}

i am becoming increasingly frustrated about the lack of movment in are signings, man city, man united have all made signings do u belive that there is a transfer coming are way very soon? {Ed002's Note - Yes - Adam, today or tomorrow.}

06 Jul 2011 12:21:15
Ed what are the chances of the following signing :
Adam
Zapata
Sturridge
And what 2 wingers are most likely to sign for each wing ?
Cheers Ed {Ed002's Note - 9, 0, 1 - Downing is all I would suggest is likely right now.}

06 Jul 2011 12:37:05
Deal for Enrique also expected this week but with news Michel Bastos is available, LFC maybe go for him. {Ed001's Note - Charlie will have a medical at 4pm.}

Please clarify ed? Is adam having a medical how sure are you? {Ed028's Note - Can't speak for Ed001 but I am very sure, providing he passes his medical etc, Adam will be a Liverpool player tomorrow}

06 Jul 2011 12:10:32
{Ed002's Note - Downing is most likely, Lennon is least likely. If Downing fails perhaps N'Zogbia is next on the list. Johnson will depend on his availability - if Manchester City make a buy then he could be available. Mata has been the subject of much discussion today. I feel the chances of him joining will decrease if Downing signs up. Everyone now thinks I am the Anti-Christ because of this. We'll see. As for the others, expect Adam today or tomorrow and I would not like to see reaction to Liverpool paying £17M for Scott Dann.}

Hai ED02 U said adam will be done today or tommorow. That means is he now close to signing and are the clubs involved in negotiations. And u suggest Either mata or downing. But if it so will we be signing another one for the right wing and who is most likely at the moment. Pls Reply waitin...
LFC INDIA

{Ed002's Note - Adam negotiations are complete so it is down to trivia such as the medical etc.. It can of course still go wrong, but that is most unlikely. Downing strikes me as most likely to come next. Perhaps a final bid will seal the transfer.}

06 Jul 2011 12:10:17
Liverpool have to be considering a punt at Nasri? We were interested before he joined Arsenal. If we were to table a £20 mill bid then the likes of City, Chelsea and United will really see us as a threat

Hi Ed just wanted to shine some light on the liverpool transfers at the moment. Liverpool will have signed Charlie Adam by 5:30 tonight and mata will come to liverpool for £23 million on wednesday. Any thoughts Ed? {Ed002's Note - As I have said, Adam will sign today or tomorrow. I refert o earlier discussion on Mata.}

06 Jul 2011 12:05:35
Either Downing hands in a transfer request and we take him for 15mil or we do the better deal for Mata at around 20mil.

Also I think if we can get Drenthe for between 8 & 10mil would be great.

06 Jul 2011 12:18:13
They will try to sign

Adam
Downing
Enrique

They have always been the preferred choices..

As i have said before, they are signing players that they believe will get us into the champions league..

Once we achieve this they will target the Agueros etc..

People keep saying why dont they sign Adam Johnson etc, how do you know that they have not tried..

I personally belive if we sign the above players we will have a great chance of challenging next season..

Lets get rid of all the deadwod and then we may see a couple of surprises at the end of the transfer window..

A happy red

AVFC want 20M for Downing..and LFC is expected to launch 2nd bid, 15m + Ngog or 15m + JoeCole....

Charlie Adam deal will be finalised today or tomorrow..

Deal for Enrique also expected this week but with news Michel Bastos is available, LFC maybe go for him. {Ed001's Note - Charlie will have a medical at 4pm.}

Valencia confirmed they have signed winger pablo piatti from almeria, this could open the door for mata exit.

Ed, it's pretty clear Downing is the preffered option for the left wing with the 15m bid that was made yesterday. Juan Mata would cost probably upward of 20m but not much higher than 25m if you trust many of the articles that are produced on the matter.

Do you know if a potential bid for Mata depends on Downing signing or is it one of the two with Downing being the preffered option, if that is the case, I found that highly bemusing.

JattRed {Ed002's Note - Refer to earlier answers for discussion, but I suspect Downing is the number one choice right now.}

06 Jul 2011 11:35:05
Hi Ed,

please post on rumours if you can.

In relation to marquee signings we should all be aware that the method in which John W Henry and FSG conduct business is based upon a "Hybrid Moneyball" system which has fundamentals to develop youth assets and to purchase star players based upon statistical analysis.

I believe this is very much the reason why Henderson was accepted at £16m because with 78 chances created(inc Assists) and a 74% pass completion rate to match 4 goals based on 3, 219 minutes played this seems to indicate value for money.

compare that to adam who is older, has a lower pass completion rate (70%) albeit a higher goals to game ratio.

my point being is that FSG set a celling price for players and try not to go above that unless their is real desire from the manager and advisor. Hence why Marquee signings are not about Big Names they are about value for money based on stats. If FSG feel a player is worth £35m then they will pay it as they clearly have shown,

thought ed?

RedJon83 {Ed002's Note - I would not overplay this concept too much.}

{Ed002's Note - Downing and Mata play in the same position on the wing. If Downing does arrive I would expect the chances of Mata arriving as well will be significantly reduced.}

Ed, In my opinion you do have a point, but it's dependent on liverpool playing a straight 442.

Downing played many games in a more central role last season with someone sitting for him. If we adopt a 433 attacking 451 defending formation similar to what chelsea used to play when Clark was there, the two players would compliment each other giving the team a natural balance - with Downing tucked in on the left hand side of the 3 with Mata wide. If either of them weren't able to play, the pattern of the play or the formation of the side wouldn't be compromised - due to the other CM's at the club.

Also, I can't imagine KK & DC putting plans together that would leave us vulnerable to injury again - ie only signing 1 left sided midfielder. If we had signed the french lad who went to Newcastle then maybe one or the other may have been targeted. As it is, I still believe we're after the two.

On a different note... What do you know about McArthy from Wigan. Have LFC enquired this summer? I understand we have scouted him previously.

Shmickles

{Ed002's Note - I understand Liverpool asked after the lad but were quoted £20M.}

Great site firstly and some rumours I am reading look promising however some people are also leaving in a dream world. Now I can't say how reliable my source is I myself am not sure however I have been told the following:
Dann - 17m
Drenthe - 4m (only so cheap because of the competition and lack of game time over past seasons)
Adam - 9m
Chu-Yong - 11m
As for wingers like the rest of us my source has said he would only like to guess however is constantly hearing the following 5 names being mentioned around the city and melwood.
Lennon (18m), Downing (18m), Mata (21m), Adam Johnson (20m) and N'Zogbia (9m).
My preference would be to go cheaper in a few positions like cb where we have good depth already as for wingers for me I would love to see Johnson and Lennon. Eds can you shed light on the possibility of these 5 wingers joining the club? Keep up the good work.

NNred {Ed002's Note - Downing is most likely, Lennon is least likely. If Downing fails perhaps N'Zogbia is next on the list. in my opinion i think we shud scrap the downing deal and try 2 get either adam johnson or juan mata as they are both quality wingers and can play either side.
Also, what happened to the shane long situation as i think he will provide good back up for suarez and carroll {Ed002's Note - Reading want £10M and Long will want first team football.}

Liverpool are considering a bid for highly-rated Lyon winger Michel Bastos.

The 27-year-old Brazilian saw a proposed deal to Juventus collapse and now Liverpool are prepared to meet the £12m asking price for the player.

The Scot has all but given up on signing England winger Stewart Downing after Aston Villa valued him at £19m - all but pricing him out of a move to Merseyside.

While Dalglish missed out on Phil Jones to Manchester United and Connor Wickham to Sunderland.

-----------------------------------------------------

ed -- is there any truth in this? i cannot see lyon selling him for just £12m, but if its true id snap him up as he can cover both our problem positions {Ed002's Note - This was discussed at length yesterday. I don't see him being sold at that price and at nearly 28 I don't see Liverpool bidding. I guess there is a chance, but it maybe slim.}

Comolli made enquiries about availability of Asamoah Gyan in last 2 days .

Sunderland want £13million which they paid to sign him last summer , the relations is good with LFC after Henderson deal and LFC stance to not match Sunderland offer to Wickham .

watch this space .

06 Jul 2011 11:06:25
LFC has offered Cole & Konchesky & Ngog & Brad Jones on Aston Villa to choose between them as part of Downing deal .

LFC want 3m for Cole & 2m for Konchesky & 5m for Ngog & 1.5m for Jones .

Villa interested in sign players in these 4 positions and may take one of them at least beside the cash

12m + Ngog is the most likely option right now .

mornin eds2, just a quick question in 2 replies this morning you mentioned about us having responsible owners which may not see marquee signings every year and protracting a deal to possible save £2m. While i understand that a club should spend within its means sometimes a club has to just concede they have to pay over the odds for a player they want, like utd did with ashely young, wickman went to sunderland cos we wouldnt match the asking price. My question is do you think there is a danger we wont bring anyone in to improve the team because we wont meet the asking price? {Ed002's Note - Not at all. Keep in mind that Sunderland could offer Wickham first team football, immediately and week in week out; Liverpool could not. You need to read my comment about "marquee" signings again, but it is true that there are sensible and practical limits to transfer dealings, Manchester City are an exception to the rule. Liverpool will strngthen, I have no doubt of that. Henderson is clearly a good prospect and has come in. Adam will be joining, Downing will probably be joining. I have little time for Adam, but the others are improvements. Mata there is a chance is the Downing deal fails. What won't be happening is significant expenditure on the likes of Forlan or Alonso; or very significant expenditure on Alexis Sanchez or Neymar. But there are responsible owners who will, if for no other reason, want their investment to grow and will be looking to ensure a constant improvement in performance.}

06 Jul 2011 10:29:21
How certain is it that Park Chu-Young is coming? {Ed002's Note - Not at all - but he may be an option.}

06 Jul 2011 10:27:49
Hi Ed, just wondering are Liverpool looking for an out and out striker in transfer window? all i have heard about so far are wingers, midfielders and backs. {Ed002's Note - I understand a striker is being looked at. Names being thrown around unclude Park Chu-Young who is seeing if options other than Lille exist, Gervinho who will sign for Arsenal today or tomorrow, Moukandjo who is available and could be a decent buy, Wickham who has gone to Newcastle, Hoarau who may be a recycled story from January. My two cents would ask why Liverpool did not buy Honda when the opportunity arose in January and there would be economic high end cover for strikers, wingers and central midfield.}

Morning Ed's and fellow reds
I know im going to get slated for this but.... why don't liverpool give owen hargreeves a shot? Fully fit he is a good solid player and he's a free agent. Thoughts ed?
Thanks {Ed002's Note - I am going to get slated - 1/10 and I am being generous.}

06 Jul 2011 10:17:31
I think that Marcelo from Real could be a good signing , cause he is one of the best wing backs in the world

What do you think . Do Liverpool have a chance to sign him ? {Ed002's Note - He is not for sale and I doubt he is a target for Liverpool.}

06 Jul 2011 10:11:26
Just reading on the guardian and bbc rumour page and it says " lfc to turn there attentions to Mata after failing with opening bid for Downing"
Am i the only person that thinks is the WRONG way round. Shouldnt we go for Downing if we fail for Mata??
SteLFC {Ed002's Note - Also, more Liverpool news from The Guardian today: "Dalglish is also weighing up an offer for Monaco's South Korean striker Park Chu-Young, who is being coveted by Milan, amongst others, but has his heart set on Anfield because he has been a Liverpool fan ever since he was in nappies with Frode Kippe-branded nappies. Meanwhile, reports in France claim that PSG have offered Guillaume Hoarau to Liverpool and two other unnamed English clubs, though why they think Liverpool would want a 27-year-old striker with a patchy goal-scoring record and wavering relevance to matches is not clear. It's as if something has convinced PSG that Liverpool are absolute mugs in the transfer market yet there is no obvious reason why they would think this? Isn't that right, David Ngog?"}

06 Jul 2011 09:50:39
hey ed, with kk away with the lads for pre season in asia does that mean all the transfer activity will stall till they return and we have to wait another 2 weeks , i know dc looks at the trasfer but i am asking because i read it somewhere

thanks
kop763 {Ed002's Note - Nothing stops. The targets will be known and a figure will have been set in consultation with the board. Efforts will continue.}

06 Jul 2011 09:48:24
ok, for one, i do not want to see charlie adam or stuart downing at liverpool for the prices quoted. there are other priorities at the moment. at left back and centre backs well as up front. they are simply too expensive for what they are. if we are going to spend upwards of 28-30 million on those two then it beggers belief.
we need enrique as well as daniel sturridge then maybe cahill at no more than 36 mill for the 3. 13, 7 and 16 we also need to sell the dead wood.

06 Jul 2011 09:38:49
With all the action coming from Mancester again, its easy to see why, loyal red fans feel we have not moved quick enough to pip other teams for top transfer targets.
With the British market being open for a few weeks now, the deals for Johnson, downing should have being done and dusted, if we really are after those two?What the yonks have to remenber we have heard it all before, we will have a shovel in the ground in 60 days. time to put up or shut up Red Jimmy red till i die {Ed002's Note - Liverpool now have responsible ownership - it is a great pity that the fans are not grateful for that. If you are not going to be satisfied until every transfer window sees several "marquee" signings chosen by the fans, then it is essential that you start a campaign to force the evil yonks out of the club. See if Kenny Huang can build a consortium with some of those nice rich sheikhs involved.}

06 Jul 2011 09:25:02
If we paid £16 million + for Henderson, why cant we just pay £9 for Charlie Adam who in my opinion is a better midfielder as it stands. Any news Eds?

What are the chances of us lodging a bid for Wesley Sneijder Eds, have we even a chance or is he off to Man Utd? He's my fave midfielder and id love to see him line up with Stevie G and would be gutted to see him in a Mange Shirt. {Ed002's Note - Liverpool will have a price in mind for Adam and will be trying to get him at that price. If it saves perhaps £2M but takes a week longer is that a bad thing? As for Sneijder, a 0/10 I am afraid.}

06 Jul 2011 09:19:44
{Ed002's Note - Downing and Mata play in the same position on the wing. If Downing does arrive I would expect the chances of Mata arriving as well will be significantly reduced.}

DONT AGREE WITH YOU ED2
Downing and Mata may well play leftwing, but they are very diffrent in style and playing ability.ie Downing keeps wide and chalk on his boots and looks for the cross as Mata likes to use his skill and speed to cut in.plus both players can play right wing and we are looking for a wingers for both sides.

{Ed002's Note - I refer you to an earlier answer. Just that it seems unlikely that £20M plus will be spent to play someone out of their best position. I would have thought that money would be better spent on Downing or a deicated right winger found. We will see.}

06 Jul 2011 09:11:34
{Ed002's Note - Downing and Mata play in the same position on the wing. If Downing does arrive I would expect the chances of Mata arriving as well will be significantly reduced.}

Downing plays on the left but can also play on the right. Mata plays on the left but can also play on the right and in the centre. Ed, it could be that we play Mata on the right, forgive me if I am wrong but I believe he is right footed.

Allez Le Rouges

{Ed002's Note - Sure they can both play on the right. For me if Liverpool wanted a right winger I would have thought that buying someone who is most effective on teh right (e.g. Adam Johnson) makes more sense that spending £20M plus to play an effective left winger out of position. Seems dumb to me but if that is Dalglish's plan fine.}

Why are people disappointed that we are trying for Downing, as far as he is by far much better than what we already have so its a good signing

EDS -- what left-bk/wing-bk, are we more likely to get in ur opionon, Vargas, Cissohko or Bastos, and do u fink the time is right to move gerrard into the holding midfielder role, just like red nose did with scholes ? ? ? {Ed002's Note - I think the most likely left back at present is still Enrique. RE: Enrique has proven epl experience so wud be agud buy and we need staibilty in defence and he has a good cross, do u fink we need a new CB as i fink we are well stocked with skrtel, agger, carra, greek, kelly, ayala, wilson, is there any truth in the dann & cazola rumours eds, fanx

{Ed002's Note - CB is not the highest priority but there has been interest in Scott Dann. Any bid for him would be delayed until his fitness is proven but teh feeling is that Birmingham may have put a too hefty price tag on the player. As for Cazorla, Malaga have, I am told, offered 23M euros and that is being looked at by Villareal. The deal includes a package for the player of around 62k euros a week.}

I think we should tell villa to shove it. If we are gking to be forced to pay 20m anyway then I'm surw we can get someone better. We only went for him in first place because he was supposed to be the cheap option. If we pay 20m for him then it will show all other teams that they can hold us to ransom.

Also is enrique not more likely to go to arsenal now ed? The only think we can offer better is wages but that would mean he's just a mercenary and I wouldn't want him

I don't see any bids for these players being made by Liverpool.}

Adam £8m C MID and dead balls
Mata £24m in the MACCA free roll and cover on the wings.

05 Jul 2011 18:36:32with coentio going madrid surely marcelo wont play liverpool will be looking to invest in him during this month for a possible 10m move {Ed002's Note - Marcelo is not up for sale. Perhaps a large offer may tempt real Madrid though.}

05 Jul 2011 19:02:58
with Coentrao going to Real Madrid, Liverpool will sign a left sided player form Real, but not Marcelo...... It will be forgotten dutchman Royston Drenthe, initial loan deal with view to permanent one or a cutprice 4 {Ed002's Note - He was looking to go to Benfica in part exchange. He is certainly available and will likely be cheap. A good player as well.}

haay? which one isit? {Ed001's Note - the second post refers to Drenthe.}

We're gonna lose out on the signing of Charlie Adam, after refusing to budge on the £8m offered. He'll go to Spurs after the departure of Modric to Chelsea. We'll look to sign Keisuke Honda instead.

Ed, is there any truth to the belief that Demba Ba has a release clause on a free due to relegation?
If so, do you not think he would be an ideal back up, free move, cheapish wages, some prem experience, and causes problems in the air and a decent finisher?

Anfield Andy

{Ed006's Note - I can't see that being the case sorry. Would be a could player to have on a free though.}

Im confused are you talking about the 3 year deal he signed with the newcastle or the one he had at west ham b4 he left a month ago

Liverpool about to splash out £30mil on both Juan Mata and Jeffren Suarez in the next week or so. Downing deal looks dead in the water with Villa refusing to budge on their £20mil asking price. Downing unwilling to put a transfer request to force a move. Liverpool have told Blackpool they have until July 15th to accept Their £8mil final offer or they'll move on to other targets.

i heard talk 2day about a possible move for kolorov from man city or trying to bring arbeloa back from madrid. ed with the moves of clichy and coentrao do you think these moves are possibilities. also KK did say something about bringing and old face back and that could be arbeloa.

GMN {Ed001's Note - no, Kolarov has been a failure and Arbeloa left because he spent two years whining he wanted to go back to Spain.}
