Is barrios a free agent? Is he talking to any clubs if so? Pretty certain we wouldn't get him but he is quality
Tommy. {Ed002's Note - Barrios is not a free agent.}

Is he gonna be released? What is going on with that Chinese club that I can't spell ?
Cheers eds, you fountain of knowledge you
Tommy.

When did Barrios became a free agent? I'm sure he's still with guangzhou evergrande, and hes only upset due to lack of playing time. But he would be a decent sigining as hes only 27 yrs old. {Ed002's Note - He is not a free agent.}

What is his current situation ed?
Thanks. {Ed002's Note - There is no "situation". He remains under contract to Guangzhou Evergrande who purchased him this summer.}

Hi Ed's,

Do you think we may bring back Carroll in Jan with the intention of using him? Obviously there are loads of factors that will effect it, but if there's the option, and we aren't looking like we'll get any value for money (which Rodgers has raised as a concern during Jan) do you think it's likely?
Dan {Ed002's Note - I would not expect Carroll to return to Liverpool.}

As if he would come back. Would you if your boss had said you aren't what he needs and tried to get rid of you?

More likely for Carroll to return next summer

Well why would we bring him back if we weren't going to use him

I thinks it pretty clear guys that the club (Rodgers) do not want Andy Carroll. Expect him to complete permanent move at the end of the season if West Ham stay up. The club will buy in January not bring AC back

There is a clause that allows him to return in january, and i hope he does i think BR got this one wrong, and before i getbslaughtered i remember the abuse lucas used to get, look how we depend on him now, and how we could have used carroll agains the gooners....

Is there a clause to bring him back? i thought if a club paid a fee that was it

Couldn't agree more.

SuperDuperSuarez

Considering he is out of action for 6 weeks, it turned out to be a good bit of business sending him out on loan and getting the loan fee. silver lining and all that
Roy

Hi was just wondering if any of the EDS can clear up the rule of players injured if on loan some were. am i right in thinking you can recall the loan if a player suffers a serious injury or am i wrong ? (in this case Carrol with his hamstring) {Ed002's Note - If an injury is serious a player would return to his owning club. This is not the case with Carroll.}

I hope Rodgers has the balls to admit he got it wrong and gets Carroll back as soon as contracts allow. I fear though that the owners are happy to no longer be paying his wages. You can't argue with FSG's sensible management of finances but we're not here to get passionate over sound business practice - it's what happens on the pitch that is the heart and soul of a football club. Sadly we seem to be in a position where that - perhaps for good reason - is a secondary concern. Walk on people...

Hi Ed002,

Was there any truth that we made a formal approach for Alessandro Del Piero before he decided upon Sydney because if we did it would seem to indicate what an unattractive prospect we (LFC) have now become even to 'has been' stars. {Ed002's Note - There was interest shown by Liverpool but as you would expect none by the player.}

Why would you expect? {Ed002's Note - Well a couple of obvious reasons. (1) There is no way Liverpool would give him a commitment to be starting games, and (2) Given the choice, there are plenty of folks who would much rather live in Sydney than in Liverpool.}

We offered him a contract and were in talks. But he chose sydneyfc

(3) we are a mid table team living on past glories

Come here to sit on the bench and be used sparingly in cold, wet england when hes past his best. Or play regular football in a lovely hot country in less demanding league where he will be treated as a legend... Would liked to have seen him here would have been a novelty and given the boys a boost but ah well.

We've had similiar starts in the past (lost one drew two of the 1st 3 games) and recovered to finish 2 and 3rd in the league, we've got to believe we'll do it again, starting with a win at sunderland, then beat the mancs and things will look a lot rosier...YNWA

Couldn't agree more with the last post - come on cheer up always look on the bright side of life.

05 Sep 2012 14:51:55
Eidur Gudjohnsen any chance ed? He can score goals

Phil Mc {Ed002's Note - I would very much doubt it. He is not the quickest and had a terrible injury last season. At present he is spending a week in Seattle to see if he is up to playing for them.}

On trial at MLS

Are you really that desperate.

My as well stick with what we've got. He is sh!t

Word on the Internet is that we are trying to get llorente on a pre agreement for the January window. YNWA

Well word on the internet is incorrect.

Who is he like sume guy who is good with athletico bil last sesion I never heard of him

Well unless Bilbao have given permission, that's tapping up {Ed002's Note - I suspect what is meant is looking to him agreeing a pre-agreement in January for a move next summer.}

Not happening

This would be fantastic IF true. But everyone is in the market for a bargain, even clubs with money to burn. Do you honestly think Liverpool will offer wages that will beat what City could offer.

ZiDan

Ill be shocked if he doesnt just wait an extra 6 months and move to Barca or Real

I doubt City will want any more strikers. They already have 4. Unless they want to get rid of one.

There is a long way to go to January. Why ate you saying that now

Get rid of balotelli

Off to spurs

Alot of words on the internet mate, many were convincing me we would sign a striker in august but it didnt happen. A long way to go till january i just hope we are in a good position by then, and buy a striker to boost the squad.

Why do we need another striker

Word on the internet also suggests the world is flat, paul mccartney is a shape-shifter and that charlie adam has never been to greggs...

FTL will have his pick of REAL and BARCA come Jan,this is now a known fact!!

That ain't true mate; in fact i seen Charlie in greggs last week

all im saying is if we can't compete for Llorente in Jan then we are really financially ****ed.

he would have 6 months to run on his contract. so would cheeeap. the only thing would be to throw high wages his way but there is a way we could do that by staying in our wage limit.

say we offer him £110k pw and other teams offer him like £7-8m per year we could just add £4m signing on fee.

he would cost around £10-12m but offer £20m for both Fernando Llorente and Fernando Amorbieta.

the £20m would be covered by loan fees of jay and carroll including carroll's £17m sale fee and ecclestone's sale fee however little that was.

then we would still have the adam £4m to play with surely they could add an extra £3m to buy Aubameyang for £7m.

with adding those three, the squad would almost be complete. in the summer sell downing and replace him with someone good enough. and add to the squad for some depth. {Ed062's Note - Why would he come to us when we're not even in the champions league? when will fans realize WE ARE NO LONGER A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CLUB! i appreciate fans want the best possible for our club but we need to be realistic}

Barcelona and Real Madrid both want him. Yeah, can really seeing him turning down one of those to come here.

The fanancial reasoning is flawed - get FL on 110K a week and he gets outscored by Borini, guess who wants a bigger contract? Then we go into the market for a promising 22YO, instead of being appriciative of an opportunity at a prestigeous club his agent sees it as an opportunity for a big payday. Thinking about each transfer in isolation is the one of the reasons we are where we are. We have to have a realistic wage structure.

Ed they said last week at the end of the window that llorente would be willing to go to spurs but they couldn't afford him. Therefore he is obviously willing to go to a non CL club. Remember we got suarez when the weren't in the CL. SOme top players will still come

Rodgers didn't want Carroll, and he doesn't want Llorente. Remember, Llorente will be 28 next year.

Ed, liverpool are a champions league CLUB, just not a champions league team at the moment. liverpool are among the top 5 or 6 clubs in the world.

jay b

It's not just a question of them wanting to go to a club not in the CL, it's a question of having the money to pay their wages while not making champions league revenue. We've been out for a couple of years now and are not looking like getting back in anytime soon. It'd be all very well saying "well we'll never get back in without spending" but we spent more than enough last season and the signings underperformed. If that happens again where does that leave us? Remember Leeds? I don't want that to happen to my club, i'd rather we're sensible for a couple of seaons, make a fluid and well settled team and challenge in the long term.

Why would any top player come to a team which has such public and bizarre episodes as last Friday's debacle, if there is another option to join a currently successful well managed team.

I will say it til I am red in the face. One of the best defending teams in the EPL which needed a scoring striker, has been turned into a circus act. No other team has such embarassing events. Just as KD took the blame for coming 8th BR can't hide from the fact he is right at the centre of the circus, all of his own making. jmac {Ed002's Note - Lots of teams miss out on players. Missing out on Dempsey is nothing like the deal people are making of it.}

How is then teams like Spurs, wage cap and no CL football for years and this season too are able to attract much better players than us? van der Vaart, always played CL football until Spurs. Look at this summer Moutinho almost signed! Lloris French Captain from Lyon CL football every season.

Even Newcastle attract Ben Arfa, Cabaye etc

There is no reason with our history and looking at Coles wage a problem with wage payments (until now) We were in CL or Europa every year, we won a cup last season... no reason apart from FSG

Ed, great work and I appreciate the comment.
But the Friday debacle was the outcome of BR alienating his only striking option during the summer.
Then, tapping up Dempsey, and leaving him to squirm off to Spurs,
While not knowing that his budget didn't stretch to Dempsey, despite public pronouncements
And telling the press he would be nuts to let Carroll go out on loan before he knew what was happening with his offers for astriker.

And these are just the incidents we know about. What damage is it doing to the team to see such bizarre behaviour. And if you are the agent to a top player are you really going to think it is a good idea to throw your lot in behind the BR system, when he is publicly put down by his owners letter. doesnt give a feeling of managerialc longevity.
Plus as BR hasn't won anything is his career, there are other top teams with more managerial sway. Jmac

Spurs couldn't afford llorente due to them going after moutinho and being unable to release certain players to free up wages! im sure they will go back in for llorente and maybe now cabaye instead of moutinho in january so I hear? I have a gut feeling that we could go for bent in jan?

We could still get llorente even without cl football but we will have to overpay.

I wish people would forget about this CL rubbish, players would move LFC sooner than Celtic. Only CL clubs from Spain, England, Germany and Italy are more attractive than LFC and those clubs can't fit all the strikers mentioned on here into their squads. It's not long since people on here were saying Gaston Ramirez wouldn't join LFC because we haven't got CL!!

Arsene wenger will only let him go to a russian club {Ed002's Note - The transfer window is shut elsewhere so it is the only viable option.}

As mentioned above look at the Ramirez scenario, i remember a lot of ppl scoffing at the thought of him joining us because we have no CL football, but that is a very defeatist attitude. I do also understand that a vast majority of players with no emotional attachment to the club won't join if they have the opportunity of playing CL and/or higher wages elsewhere. However, i would at least like the club to show some ambition and at least try for these players, worst case scenario they say No. boohoo. ye move onto next target.

Just like that hey. Anyway west ham won't pay 17m gor Carroll. He will be back at Liverpool

Carroll is a big man not suited to the system so why do you think we would look at llorente (BIG MAN)

Tiki-taka ....

Lloriente can sign a pre-contract with any foreign club come jan 1 for a free transfer in the Summer so do you really think anyone is going to pay 10-12M forhim?

Ed062, saying things like 'face it, we're not even a champions league club anymore' will help us nicely in solidifying our mid table mediocracy.

Liverpool Football Club need to think big and outmanouvre the top teams for the best players. We've done it in the past (Sahin, J.Cole has been rubbish but we beat a lot of big teams to his signature, Suarez etc)

So don't come on here saying Liverpool has no pulling power when it comes to buying big players. Because its defeatist and quite frankly, untrue!

ZiDan

ZiDan

we got Sahin because (as I understand it) mourinho said go to the premiership and alonso said you will be loved at Liverpool. I read somewhere that Cole's always liked liverpool so probably wanted to come here and knew the club from already playing in England. We offered good wages aswell. Was anyone else in for Suarez at the time? He apparently wanted to play with Torres and Gerrard (again rememeber reading it somewhere but not sure how true this is). I think Liverpool don't have the attraction of being based in London. Nor do they have the attraction of the Manchester clubs money or recent successes. With the way we went about our business ie tapping up Dempsey and also the being slated for the Carroll thing would probably go against us aswell as some bad publicity. Add last season's Suarez bad press and it doesn't look good if you don't know the club well. I don't think that the big players being talked about would want to come as we have no CL, not in London, and cant fatten their bank balance as much as others. What we do have is the ability to give them a start in most games, play with Stevie and Suarez and play attractive football (once we have settled into it). Until a player wants to come for those reasons I can see us loosing out on bigger names. I'm not even sure if I want them here if they are only after money etc. If players come here for the right reasons and do a job you wouldnt be saying oh well he's good but he's not as good as LLorente or Ramirez. You would say we have found a gem. Look at Allen. Yeah he cost more money than what people valued him but has came in and done a job. Was he a big name? I don't care if a player hasn't had his name in lights or is spread across the back pages every week. If they prove thereselves here then I for 1 will get behind them instead of writing them off before they start.

We have plenty of pulling power, we just don't want to end up in debt. It'd be interesting to see how much of your own money you'd spend on these players and their wages.

This season we signed Allen (who is looking class already) Borini (who i think will come good soon) and Sahin on loan (who IMO is one of europes best midfielders). Give them a chance to bed in, as for "needing" strikers, why not give the youth a chance? We've a huge number of player waiting to make the step up. Stop being so negative about the club, the press do that enough for us already.

Ed with arshavin being given a free by arsenal does this mean we could go for him?

Jonesred

For the umpteenth time ... NOT TILL JANUARY, if ever.

Arsenal would not let him join us

Why do you have difficulty with the phrase '' out of contract '' .............

No interest in him.

Personally, Ive always had a problem with a guy who has a name that sounds like he's shaving his buttocks...

ed002, Hi mate, just a quick question, what would you expect to happen in January?

Don {Ed002's Note - A move for a striker - perhaps on loan. Much else would depend on sales and of course, but hopefully not, any long term injuries.}

Ed do you not think we sold enough?? {Ed002's Note - It is a means to raise money.}

Depending on sales!!!
what planet are you on

If we loan a striker in jan there will be uproar with the fans, we cleared nearly half a mill a week on wages and we still cant afford to buy..... if that's true ... FSG OUT!!

Sorry but that's not good enough

Good joke ed!!

Cant even afford a forward only a loan.FSG OUT NOW

Ed's telling the truth, so take it easy.

Dublad

I think Ed could be right.
There will be transfer requests to leave LFc by January.
Whenever a new manager comes in not all of those he wants to stay want to stay with him.
I wouldnt put my house on it, but Suarez having signed a new contract still didn't change my view that he will be off elsewhere. LS is the most valuable player in the team. Very tempting for fsg/BR to capitalise on and try to get a couple more borinis in, who fit into his system..
Jmac

Depending on sales? surely we cant afford to sell any more players, our squad depth is poor at the minute never mind losing anyone else {Ed002's Note - Where do you expect the money to come from for purchases then?}

Ed which strikers do you think we could possibly get on loan? mayb dzeko {Ed002's Note - It is really much too early to say. January is some way off.}

Suarez is just another number and unless he starts fireing them in properly id let him go and cash in on him, the price we paid and the wages he gets hes becoming another andy"ya know"cole 6 shots on target one goal.

Judging by Henrys comments, dont expect them to fork out anything above £4.75p, or to buy a player that anyone has even heard of, or on someone who could come in and make an immediate impact because thats not what is needed, no. What we are looking for is the cheap "possible" stars of the future in the making, so that means that it would be someone who may, or may not, be good enough to play in 5 years time and not someone to be used in the team now, because its the future thats so important. And clearly the current squad is good enough to qualify for Europe next year, so theres absolutely no hurry whatsoever to sign anyone in January. Dont know why everyones so desperate, its all ok, we are in good hands. Tightfisted small hands with very shallow pockets full of moths, but good nonetheless.

I do enjoy a sarcastic rant.

Just realised I hadnt commented on a response to the direct comment in my last reply - in answer to the question posed "what do you expect to happen in January?", Id have to say a very honest "not a lot".

I can't believe that some of you moan about FSG. Apart from the fact that they saved us from a 9 point deduction that would have left us going into a relegation battle during the last few games of the season, their net spend is considerably more than most of the other clubs. Not only have they spent more (and had millions wasted by Dalglish and Comolli) but they've had to take a £50m hit on the stadium that H&G didn't proceed with. Here's the facts - not the Daily Mail nonsense!

10/11
Bought...£80m
Sold...£85m
Net spend...-£5m

11/12
Bought...£57m
Sold...£21m
Net spend...£36m

12/13
Bought...£28m
Sold...£8m
Net spend...£20m

So, during the 3 seasons (full & part seasons) FSG have owned the club the net spend is £51m.

Compare that to the following during the same period:

Arsenal...(£10m)
QPR...£38m
Man U...£92m
Man C...£195m
Newcastle...(£9.3m)
Chelsea...£225m
Spurs...(£9.3m)
Villa...£5m
Fulham...(£1m)
Southampton...£8.5m
Sunderland...£4m
Stoke £42m
Everton...(£19m)

Man City and Chelsea are owed by men worth billions. Can anyone else realistically compete? No. Leave them to it.

Man U is run on borrow money. They're worth far more than LFC so can borrow more even if FSG wanted to mortgage the club. You know, like we used to be? Before FSG saved us from a disaster!

So, after that, LFC have the highest net spend on players. A club that is run properly with owners who are keen to ensure that the club is financially secure with long term sponsorships deals and other commerical interests.

I really can't understand the moaners. Really pathetic.

Amazing. Someone asks a question. Ed002 takes the time to reply (and correctly, in my opinion) and gets slated for it.

We're not going to be making any signings of note without people going the other direction. Get used to it and stop moaning.

We finished 8th last season with a wage bill > £100M a year and the club still losing money daily. The teams around us, Everton, Fulham, NUFC, etc. all have wage bills less than half of what ours is and I'm going to guess don't have a lot of players making > £75k a week.

The owners tried the 'spend big to get into the CL' approach and it failed. This is the repercussion- belt tightening / right-sizing / austerity / whatever you want to call it. Our club cannot sustain the wage bill we had on the revenue we had and unfortunately we also don't have another Torres we can offload for £50M. We're essentially in 'rebuilding' mode and will be for the foreseeable future.

ED002 thanks for the reply mate, and to others.. people need to stop moaning, whats happened has happened, ED002 is the more reliable ED on here so leave it out and take a step back, lets just wait till Jan.

Don

We are a joke. mid table I am afaid

Depends on sales?..pardon the ignorance eds but who, other than kids, have we got and can afford to sell. Please don't say Henderson etc as we are in three cup competitions as well as the league and surely we require numbers as things stand at the moment. Sell who please?

David {Ed002's Note - I have spent a long time explaining that the money is not there to make significant purchases unless players are sold. Carroll was someone the club want to sell but could not find a buyer. There is no point in naming players who may be sold at this time.}

We have one striker over 21..... 1 !!!! thats it .... carroll went on loan so a replacement should be lined up.... having to sell another to fill that void is worrying...... I am aware the shambles our club was in but our front line is a shambles and needing to sell to fix it after already moving Andy on is just cheeky..

Last summer really damaged us but we arent going anywhere with getting a couple of established players in if FSG cant do that then they must go.... If they didnt hide out in America with there precious Red Sox and came over and sat in the stadium for a run of games and to feel how the fans are feelin and see how the teams performing maybe then they would realise what we need but no amount of youth will improve this side we need a couple of establised pros to lead the way.... We need owners who can provide this if they cant thats there problem not ours

It's a depressing state that we are in, we can only afford to loan a striker in January, despite our shortage.

Teams like Spurs and Newcastle will no doubt have money to spend in January for one or two players and yet we have to look for a loan signing.

If selling Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy wasn't enough to warrant money being spent on a replacement then we should have jus kept them.

I think we all know that top 4 is a pipe dream.

Adam

Ed's any truth in being linked to del piero?
Thanx
Brian {Ed002's Note - Linked with perhaps. Joining, I remain doubtful.}

Del Peiro at 37 years old will score goals. Would love to see him at Liverpool for the season

Agree, would love him at us

Signed for FC Sydney as expected.

I get sickof the same questions over and over again are some people thick

With the red tops reporting that United looking to tie up deal for Damaio I was wondering if you eds knew why our bid for him hit a snag? {Ed002's Note - There was no deal for Leandro Damiao. Joining Liverpool was not and is not an option.}

Ed of what you are saying is true, then we're Eds 52 and 63 wrong then when they said he had been offered to us on deadline day? If wages were a stumbling block, then yes we could have had him, but we chose not to {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what made them say that. Perhaps Twitter.}

Liverpool are hoping to land Theo Walcott in January for a bargain fee of £8m, the England winger is a known Liverpool fan who has refused to sign a new contract and has been dropped from Arsene Wengers first choice eleven. Liverpool know Arsenal will have to cut him free in January or they will lose him for nothing next summer. Liverpool are also looking to resume the chase for Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge, Chelsea are willing to let Sturridge leave but are holding out for a permanent £15m transfer to fund a move for Marseille striker Loic Remy. Liverpool wanted Sturridge on a season long loan with a £12m option to buy at the end of the season. Liverpool managed to clear out Jay Spearing,Charlie Adam and unfortunately Andy Carroll in the last couple of days before the window shut in January they will continue to try and offload Joe Cole along with Dani Pacheco. Raheem Sterling has started the season well but Rodgers will probably send him on loan in January if he manages to land Walcott and Sturridge. Jordan Henderson could be another big money signing going out on loan just like Andy Carroll. Brendan Rodgers believes both will turn out to be good players but they will not get better sitting on the bench at Anfield.

Sterling will go nowhere. Will not let a prized asset leave and get clobbered, and even if Walcott was to arrive we need two good wingers as competition. Walcott is a Liverpool fan so why did he chose Arsenal - money chosen over loyalty

I was believing this post till I read about Sterling lol joker

Why would Lfc pay 8 mil for a player they can get for free 6 months later? It sounds like you know more about the reds transfer activitys than Rodgers you must work at anfield are you the person who ballsed the Dempsey transfer up on the last day?
Robbie moo cow

What a complete load of BS. Letting sterling go out on loan when he's been out best player?! Utter sh1te.

Why do persons post carp like this?!

Sterling is ahead of downing in the pecking order. Not saying its right or wrong but why would you loan out a member of your starting 11. If they're starting 11 it means they won't be short on game time by staying and loaning them will weaken your line up. Absurd

So we have a small squad now and in jan you want to bring in 2 and let 4 go your a genius mate

What is wrong with dani pacheco?

Well we should have just got Walcott in the summer. Carroll will return in January. Henderson will also stay. He is great back up in midfield

I can believe we will make an offer in jan for walcott, but if BR lets sterlin go i would be very shocked best player we've had this season and he only gonna get better.

You don`t have high hopes of FSG spending any money in JAN I would even bet the yonks are pushing now to find a buyer

Why do people just write random musings or things that they would like to happen and pass it off as information or fact. Do us all a favour and keep it to yourself. I appreciate that you're about twelve years of age but spare the rest of us your pointless fu**in drivel please.

My wifes friend has just spotted Robbie Keane at Liverpool Airport. Anyone know when the MLS finishes and clubs over in England can sign players from there. I know it's today he would have had to join up with Rep of Ire but intersting none the less.

Not until October/November mate. And sketchy the Galaxy would let him go and the system in the US is not like Europe. Must be allot of lookalikes in England with all these reports over there at airports. lol : )

Yeah, Robbie Keane is Robbie Keane, not David Beckham ... so Galaxy would never let him go out on loan; perhaps if Ireland were to hold the Olympics then Robbie could swan off and do what, when and where he pleased.

The transfer window is closed . We can only sign players who are unemployed , that means out of contract .

Why are people having difficulty with this ?

People are having difficulty with only out of contract players being signed because they are all thick buggers and their brains are to small to grasp it

He is with the Ireland team flying to Kazakhstan unless they had a stopover in Liverpool it wasen't him.

Absolute.rubbish liverpool.airport doesnt.have any.flights.from america
how i know this.? i work there

Chelsea did make a late move for Marseille forward Loic Remy on the final day of the window but the deal fell through after Daniel Sturridge refused a loan switch to Liverpool,
Sturridge held the key to his side's move for Remy and the England international did not want to leave Stamford Bridge on loan, instead pushing for a permanent switch as he searches for regular first-team football.

There was also a dispute between Liverpool and Chelsea over the loan fee due to the European champions and by mid-afternoon on Friday it became clear that both Remy and Sturridge would be staying at their clubs.

Should have went for Remy ourselves!

Daniel Sturridge ? {Ed002's Note - THe deal with Remy was a proposal made by Marseille when discussions were being held over Kakuta. Sturridge was nothing to do with the matter.}

hi eds i might be just playing to much football manager but isnt there a loan window after the transfer window? {Ed001's Note - no, only in the Football League and then only short term loans, so called 'emergency loans'.}

Well if ours ain't an emergency, what is? ;-)

Ed001, is the "emergency loan" only applies to goalkeeper? {Ed002's Note - Yes.}
