Hey Eds,

A very old follower of the website. Are you aware of of any holding midfielders we looked at?

Cheers and Wish you and your team a very happy new year.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no.}

05 Jan 2018 22:35:56
Unfortunately, Klopp doesn't envisage us playing with a proper holding midfielder. I'd have liked Obiang or Ndidi but it's a waste of time moaning about it so I've given up šŸ˜‚.

Agree3 Disagree9

05 Jan 2018 22:56:47
It's about getting the right balance of midfield players that can take on Klopps style. Keita should bring a bit of bite.

Agree9 Disagree0

{Ed0333's Note - I agree

Whereā€™s the fun in a dm MK, it isnā€™t much more fun to have a heart attack every game ;)

Would love to see N'Zonzi come in, don't know if he's still available after Sevilla sacked Berizzo though.

N'Zonzi does not suit Klopps style.

Hi Eds,

Anything in these Gelson rumours?

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I don't know what 'these Gelson rumours' are to answer that.}

05 Jan 2018 19:01:02
Gelson Martins, Skys 'European Paper Talk' article. I assume nothing more than collecting stories from across europe in trash papers such as the scum which is the s**.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 22:43:58
Gelson will be a great replacement for Salah, I think Ed02 already told us that.

Hearing sunderland are to sign ben woodburn on a six month load deal. Good luck young man go make a name for yourself.

Believable21 Unbelievable0

05 Jan 2018 16:59:01
I really, really hope he hasn't joined Sunderland. That would be the worst possible move for him.

The lad needs to develop, get regular game time, with a competent team that can play to his strengths. Sunderland are an old team, bottom of the table in their league, and have done nothing to suggest they will survive. If Woodburn really does join Sunderland on loan then Liverpool have failed the lad. So many better teams around who would be happy to include him in the team, whether that be as a starter or a rotational player. That would be much better than to join a side who have give up, lack quality, where most of the players do not even take their jobs seriously, just happy to pick up a wage packet and continue with their lives.

Awful choice if this is true, all players that are looking to develop should stay away from Sunderland.

Agree5 Disagree14

{Ed025's Note - you do know this is woodburn we are talking about and not salah dont you mango?, a half decent young lad who has exactly no chance of breaking into the first team and would be lucky to make the bench at any premier league side, i think its a great move for him as he has a chance of getting regular football..

05 Jan 2018 17:18:17
I would comment that at Sunderland he would be working under Chris Coleman who gave him his Wales debut, so he does know and he does very highly rate him.

Agree25 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 17:24:42
great choice in my opinion working under his wales boss. win win for both teams.

Agree17 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 17:17:56
Half decent?

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - i know i am boosting him up a bit there emre...but yes half decent mate..

05 Jan 2018 17:32:41
The key is him getting game time in a competitive league of professionals, and with Coleman there he has a good shot of that with at Sunderland. It doesnā€™t matter if itā€™s with a top side of or not, arguably a tough relegation scrap for 6 months will teach him even more! Good move for the lad and hope he learns a lot from it and helps out their side with a few goals.

Agree11 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - totally agree grobs mate..

05 Jan 2018 17:36:27
I wasn't talking about the Premier League, ED025. I was talking Championship, as that is where I believe Woodburn should test himself out at first. However, Sunderland for me is the wrong team to aid his development. A young player needs to play with decent players so that he can get the best out of himself, he needs to join a team whose fans are not on the teams back and hurling abuse, a team that can compete and have a fighting mentality, if not a winning one.

Sunderland to me is the wrong choice. The only positive I can see is that if Woodburn joined Sunderland then his former Wales manager will support and be behind him. That and Woodburn will have to learn how to deal with expectation and pressure. However while Coleman is the right manager I do not believe he has the players. This is not the Wales national team, Woodburn will be playing with people like John O'Shea (Who no longer cares about football considering his medal cabinet), Jack Rodwell (A man who threw his career away for money) and Lee Cattermole (A man who is and was a safe best to get red carded every game) .

That is not quality, that is players at the end of their careers stuck at the club because nobody else wants them. That is the kind of players Woodburn will be playing alongside.

Just my two cents though, I hope if the deal goes through everything will go according to Woodburn and Liverpool's plan but I do doubt it myself.

Agree1 Disagree6

{Ed025's Note - i have to disagree mango, as grobs on another post said it will do him the world of good to be in a side that may be struggling, it will show what hes made of and believe it will be a good platform to learn his trade rather than the comfort of liverpools reserves, just my opinion of course mate..

05 Jan 2018 17:49:09
Can't see Woodburn getting a game here. Much different class at every position to get thrown in like Ibe, Sterling etc. And more will come in next year. Still think Ben can have a career with us if we gets footy for a couple years in the bottom of prem as a starter.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 17:59:44
Well said ed25! Good way to build character, I think it was ed02 said something recently about learning more in a loss than in a win!
Good luck to him.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good luck indeed mate..

05 Jan 2018 18:06:17
Top young player, needs a move and Coleman will look after him. Think he's as good as anything to come from the academy in years he's comparable to Sterling. Let him get senior games till May and see where he is in the summer.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 18:14:32
We said the same about Ibe and look what happened to him.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 18:18:36
Great move for him in my opinion. Going to play for a manager who knows him very well, knows what he's all about. Sunderland have a fantastic fan base could become a favourite quite easiy, Get his confidence up. Could be the making of the boy. No doubt he's a great talent but not going to get to show it if he stays at liverpool.

Agree1 Disagree1

05 Jan 2018 18:33:47
So is every young player an ibe now? although if every half decent academy player was sold for Ā£15million we'd be doing ok.

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 19:01:26
What about Ibe? He went on loan to Derby and came back a better player. Whatever has happened to him since at Bournemouth has nothing to do with his loan at Derby!

Agree3 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 22:35:00
Ibe was ruined here not outside and/ or by the player he already is. Woodburn could turn out different so at least give the lad a chance. Oh and Ibe isn't doing too badly considering ge is still playing at the top level of domestic football.

Hi Ed002, Any truth you know of in a Chinese bid of 10 million or so for Markovic?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any offer being made right now but Liverpool asked a great deal more than that of Fenerbahce - making them walk away. If Liverpool don't sell him in this window he will walk away for nothing at the end of the season (well two weeks after it). Not sure how he would like the idea of China either. A maybe.}

05 Jan 2018 15:40:55
Thank you for the response.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome. He will be aware that whilst some players settle others have struggled and it is a big decision for him. Liverpool need to come up with a realistic asking price and it will be easy to find a buyer - possibly a PL side.}

05 Jan 2018 15:52:05
I feel sorry for the lad. Was brought in to replace a top class player, had ridiculous expectations thrust upon him when he was clearly not ready.

05 Jan 2018 15:58:20
Hi ed wat is the possibility of getting gelson Martin's with the coutihno sale, is there a chance with a gastronomical bid they would sell.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They would sell if the offer was high enough. He would make a great Salah replacement.}

05 Jan 2018 16:25:19
Ed002 is right, Gelson is a winger, not a number 10. If Salah went, yeah heā€™d be great, but not as a replacement for Pipco.

Agree4 Disagree1

05 Jan 2018 16:38:29
Thanx I was asking asking on basis that Phil sometimes plays on left of attack, obviously Phil slightly different type of player more quality with passing an shooting, jus hard too find like for like in short space of time.

05 Jan 2018 17:38:17
A gastronomical bid? Would have to be some mighty fine tapas.

Agree4 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 18:04:14
Eds and reds, I was just wondering whatever happened to that young polish midfielder that was apparently nailed on to join us a year or so back? Did he move anywhere, progress.?
In terms of pipco going I think heā€™s played well for us and weā€™re going to be richly rewarded. Thereā€™s no point in trying to turn this sour and behave like heā€™s done us over. Sadly Barcelona are just a bigger and better side then us at the moment. We have, however, shown recently that weā€™re moving forward and look to be the nearest team to challenge city domestically in the coming seasons provided our investments continue to be smart (like mane, salah, Robbo) . Iā€™m hoping for lemar, although when watching the clips on tā€™inter web I fell down a YouTube hole and ended up watching hours of jay jay okocha vids. Iā€™d love a player like he was. finally, with emreā€™s current position I donā€™t think we can put the guy on the bench for running down his contract. Weā€™ll hopefully get goreztka (sp) agreed soonabd be stronger overall.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Zielinsku moved. Jay Jay is not available right now but if Liverpool throw enough money at him you never know.}

05 Jan 2018 22:52:54

05 Jan 2018 14:06:04
Coutinho is going. If Mahrez is the best we can do then our season is as good as finished and it shows that as a club we lack ambition because we always settle for mediocrity.

Agree7 Disagree20

05 Jan 2018 14:23:13
Wow Dennis, buying the player of the year from 2 years ago shortly after paying for VVD, Keita and Salah shows mediocrity and lack of ambition?

Perhaps you can critique Mahrez as a player instead of preemptively trashing the club with false assertions.

Agree20 Disagree2

05 Jan 2018 14:32:59
I personally think Mahrez is a very good player.

Agree8 Disagree2

05 Jan 2018 13:37:40
Thanks ed002 any one else we mite look at edd?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - There are options but if players are not available the club should not make a knee jerk buy.}

05 Jan 2018 14:58:19
Mahrez is very classy but Coutinho does it far more consistently and offers that little bit extra from free kicks and creatively. Mahrez would do well in a situation where he wouldn't be the central focus of the squad. In this case we are replacing arguably our most important player and definitely the most valuable. Lemar would be my choice, hands down, but I would prefer to keep Coutinho until the summer and see what we do in the Champions League.

Agree2 Disagree2

05 Jan 2018 15:10:23
Agree completely amerigo, it just baffles me as to how some posters can deny Mahrezā€™s quality without actually telling us what he does so poorly? Iā€™d like him at Liverpool, I too would prefer Lemar but I think Mahrez would do an admirable job in the red shirt. After the recent windows I think we have to trust be club will do whatā€™s best.

Agree1 Disagree3

05 Jan 2018 15:26:59
We should be looking elsewhere for a replacement if we harbour any thoughts on progressing and becoming successful.

Agree2 Disagree1

05 Jan 2018 16:01:14
Mahrez is a very inconsistent right winger, and specifically a winger that doesnā€™t have electric pace, he lacks the passing ability and the intelligence to replace Coutinho in the number ten role and you would not want him in a midfield three as his work rate is far worse than Coutinho, he certainly has been very mediocre bar one freak season, which is no measure with which to judge him (remember Charlie Adam and his Ā£10m corners? ), heā€™s a match of the day highlights reel player at best and smacks of s knee jerk reaction. If we sign him you can mark him along with Aquilani, Carroll, Markovic, Balotelli Etc as substandard knee jerk reactions to selling top class players.

Agree5 Disagree4

05 Jan 2018 16:05:38
Arrrr not like certain people to be so negative eh? Everton is that way pal.

Agree1 Disagree1

05 Jan 2018 17:32:27
Coutinho has only played the 10 role 8 times this season in 22 games. It's not like Klopp isn't known for playing people of out their traditional positions either (e. g. Firmino at striker, Wijnaldum and Ox in midfield, Milner at LB, Henderson as a 6, etc. ) .

Not saying we should or would or have any interest in Mahrez, but where he plays now and where Klopp might see use for him aren't exactly the same thing.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Jan 2018 09:58:26
I'd rather take Marc Albrighton šŸ˜‚ at least his attitude is exemplary. Plus he actually plays on the left or in attacking midfield, is a set piece specialist, works hard defensively, and scores the odd goal.

He's vastly under rated, and miles better than Mahrez. Maybe he should have a bad attitude and bleach his hair so the media take more notice of him and the fact that he is usually involved in the build up every Leicester goal, but can also whip in a deadly cross or play a killer pass in behind. He'd be perfect for whipping crosses in to the back post for Mahrez. Few publicity stunts might get him noticed, because consistently good performances sure as hell don't nowadays.

He's not Coutinho quality, but at least he plays in the same position, has the right mentality, and is a consistent performer. 2 goals and 6 assists this season. That's a better return than Ā£90m Lemar, and Albrighton has to cross for Vardy instead of Falcao! Massively under rated player is Albrighton, and I'd happily take him to play in Coutinho's position in the team. He's certainly better than the likes of Mahrez, Meyer and Draxler (save us, dear god) .

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 10:49:16
Morning eds. I know we can't sign everyone but I've seen we've been linked with or suggested that Draxler would be a good fit to replace Couts, but how about Lucas Moura, if rumours are true he's available. He seems s good player with a lot of pace that suits liverpools style of play, any interest at all and do you feel he could work in our team?
Thanks for all the work you guys do.

Believable2 Unbelievable17

05 Jan 2018 12:01:37
I want Lemar because that is who Klopp clearly wants. I also think he is a quality player with big potential.

Agree16 Disagree1

05 Jan 2018 13:09:31
Lucas moura is the Brazilian Theo Walcott. Direct, pacey but inconsistent and with more hype than end product. Not worth it IMO.

Agree11 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 14:32:52
I think he didn't settle in Europe. Still think he's a better player than the one we've seen at psg. Though maybe not the player many people see in FIFA.

05 Jan 2018 10:06:18
File under "that was expected" but sky are now reporting Can has agreed terms with Juve to sign in the summer.

Believable9 Unbelievable1

05 Jan 2018 10:27:08
If he signs then I can't see how he justifies selection for the remainder of the season.

Agree16 Disagree19

05 Jan 2018 10:33:27
Jayden, it is surely similar to Keita at RBL. He is our player until the summer and we use Can if needed.

Agree19 Disagree3

05 Jan 2018 10:33:28
Problem is Jayden, weā€™re desperately short of quality options in centre midfield so itā€™s not like beggars can be choosers. If we signed Goretzka or some other top class cm player Iā€™d agree that he can sit the rest of the season out on the bench or in the stiffs but that ainā€™t happening. Weā€™re now stuck with a player whoā€™ll give the minimum effort he can in case of injury. Slow handclaps to all concerned with this mess.

Agree7 Disagree4

05 Jan 2018 10:38:55
Letā€™s hope we do sign someone so we can drop him for the rest of the season. If nothing else, this should have been done behind closed doors.

Agree5 Disagree15

{Ed002's Note - What should have been done behind closed doors? Why should he be dropped? It is simply a player coming to the end of his contyract and looking to move on. Just like Goretzka. The Liverpool posts are becoming embarrassing and stupid (again). It is like you have no grasp at all of the real world.}

05 Jan 2018 10:44:57
Just a thought (and I doubt this is the case but thought I would ask), is Can really dead-set on leaving, or just using a ā€œpre contract agreement in principleā€ as a tool to get what he really wants out of Liverpool I. e wages, guaranteed playing time etc?

Just seems a bit odd that Klopp has apparently said he is happy for him to still sign a new contract with us even if at the end of the season. Seems a bit of a call your bluff scenario (if you were cynical :)

Agree1 Disagree6

05 Jan 2018 10:48:24
Move Grujic up pecking order.

Agree6 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Grujic needs to go on loan.}

05 Jan 2018 10:59:04
For me the difference with the Keita situation is that RBL decided to accept that deal. Where as with Can it looks like he decided to leave. What's the situation if we face Juventus in CL at some point? It's a difficult situation all round unless we find a replacement soon.

Correct MrDennis. Similar to the Coutinho situation.

Agree2 Disagree2

05 Jan 2018 10:59:10
Why should a player sit on the bench just because heā€™s agreed a move? So if Coutinho agrees to move in summer should be bench him as well? Should Keita be dropped because heā€™s moving to Liverpool? Isnā€™t this all getting a bit stupid.

Agree10 Disagree3

05 Jan 2018 10:54:04
The club should have never let his contract run down, simple. Also itā€™s a World Cup year so heā€™s hardly likely to sit on his arse for the rest of the season he wants in that squad. We deal with it and we move on. Next.

Agree0 Disagree5

{Ed002's Note - If he doesn't want to sign a contract then his time at the club will be limited to the length of that contract. I really think you are all struggling to get this - whilst dribbling all over Goretzka of cours.}

05 Jan 2018 10:55:42
I think thatā€™s unfair on Can. Heā€™s obviously known for ages he wasnā€™t signing a new deal, would you say thereā€™s been a lack of desire and application from him so far this season? Time will tell but with the World Cup approaching I donā€™t see him giving everything but his all.

Agree10 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 10:56:12
What mess? This happens with most Bosmans. We offered a contract, he doesn't want to sign. Hopefully he goes down the pecking order, which in my book ain't no bad thing. Too many holes appear when he plays at number 6 as Klopp calls it and he offers little going forward for the most part. Like one of the eds said, if Klopp rated him higher, things might be different.

Agree4 Disagree2

05 Jan 2018 11:02:17
Emre Can is a professional. Iā€™m sure that he will give his all like he always has.
He has a World Cup position to play for as well.
If heā€™s the best man at Melwood, Iā€™m sure heā€™ll be in the team. If heā€™s not, Iā€™m sure he wonā€™t be.
Heā€™s given us 4 years of his life and has done nothing wrong in not wanting to sign a new contract.
We all have to move onto new pastures at some point in our lives.

Agree13 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 11:08:13
Regardless of opinions on this, i just wanted to tip my hat to you Ed002. You called this half a year ago and took the usual stick for it, and you've all had to answer constant questions about this despite telling us all from day one exactly what was happening behind the scenes.

This is why this site is the best. I told my mates last summer Can would leave on a free to Juventus in 2018. They now think I'm a psychic! I may not have a crystal ball, but i do have an Ed002's Note!

Agree15 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 11:04:32
Jayden23, if someone hands in their notice at work, do you tell them to go chill at home? no they work till their time is up. Can is getting paid so when he is needed he will play. I assume your more than happy with Coutinho playing whilst he is employed by the club even though his intentions are clear.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it does depend on the job. If they are in a position to damage the company they work for, they are usually escorted straight off the premises to spend the notice period at home.}

05 Jan 2018 11:06:20
Jordz, by default we have accepted the scenario, we knew the player was in his last year of his contract and didn't tie him down (we all know that a player can agree a pre contract with a team abroad) . If he plays and gives 100% then I have no issue with him playing. If however his attitude is poor then he shouldn't be picked.

Agree2 Disagree1

05 Jan 2018 11:11:31
Thing is that the sticking point over the new contract was relatively easy to resolve and no one at the club backed down or looked to find a happy medium for all parties, so now we lose him on a free.

Agree1 Disagree3

05 Jan 2018 11:16:35
Ed001, in a scenario like this where there has seemingly been no issues with employers and colleagues, merely just looking for a change, being paid the wage he is, in my experience, you see out your notice. He has acted professionally thus far.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I was not saying we should do so, just pointing out your comments are incorrect. It does not matter about professionalism etc, in many businesses anyone handing in notice in a position to effect the performance of the business significantly will not serve out a notice period, unless it is a notice with a view to retirement. Football is a different thing anyway, you can't really make comparisons as a player has no option but to join a potential competitor of some kind, whereas in a normal walk of life they often go to a totally different industry.}

05 Jan 2018 11:35:44
I don't normally agree with Ed002 but will side with him/ her on this occasion.

Can and his agent have shown nothing but an exemplary attitude even though the player is looking for pastures new. Like any normal human in a normal job, sometimes its time for change and footballers are no different. You would never ever have thought he was looking for out, his mind and heart hasn't been elsewhere, no faking of injuries or spewing off to the media he has got his head down and concentrated on his work.

How we as fans have rewarded this is by slagging him off and condemning him to 'rot in the reserves' in a year where a world cup is taking place. Emre Can has given us good service and has given everything to the LFC cause since he arrived. Show a bit of class and humility, wish the guy all the best and bloody move on.

Agree9 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 11:56:43
don't think Can has had a bad season for us in fact I think it has been his best he has got 6 months left and I think he will give his all and until he does not how does he deserve to be dropped. the only reason has the eds have said many times before he wants to go to be first choice and he won't be next year when Naby comes.

Agree1 Disagree1

05 Jan 2018 11:46:35
If Klopp wanted him that much, he would have signed. This is not an Ozil, Sanchez situation. Definitely not a coutinho situation. Standard bosman. He wants to be the main man (or at least one of them) . If all are fit, He's unlikely to make the team at Liverpool.

Agree3 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 12:07:55
Thing is that as MK said earlier, heā€™s been pulling out of 50/ 50 challenges and giving the absolute minimum (at times strolling around letting the game pass him by, like Arsenal and Swansea), so for that he should be dropped, but the problem is that we have no one else who can actually play in the specific role of midfield anchor. So we are really in between a rock and a hard place as we have a player that really doesnā€™t want to play for the club and is committed elsewhere and having to have to play him because we have no other suitable options.

Agree2 Disagree2

05 Jan 2018 12:10:24
I actually rate Can and would have wanted him to stay. Fans want rid of Couts because he no longer wants to play for the club so I'm merely suggesting how would he justify selection if he as chosen to sign with someone else. This has no relation to RBL for me as I don't support them.

Agree0 Disagree1

05 Jan 2018 12:13:10
Players canā€™t win. We moan about couts for trying to get out of his contract and we moan about Can for honoring his for its full term and then moving on. At the same time we want Keita to get out of his contract early, Goretzka to sign a pre contract with us as he honours his final 6 months and disrupt VVD enough to make him force his way out of his own contract. Lol.

Agree6 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 12:09:54
Just a thought but will Emery be first choice at juve? Last time I checked they were a class team with a strong squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2018 12:25:51
Ed002. Iā€™m not dribbling over Goretzka as he is not a Liverpool player. As for Can, surely the club - to protect their investment - should have offered him a short improved deal with a release clause so he could trigger it when Juve came calling. So LFC get a fee for him and he gets a bit more in his weekly wage packet until he goes. Everyoneā€™s happy. I get the principle of his contract having a finite lifetime so it will have run down. I just think it would have made better business sense to get however many pounds for him and then let him go.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - The club did not want to do that.}

05 Jan 2018 12:27:51
I defended him in the summer Swishcleaner. I had a lot of respect for somebody seeing out their contract and playing to their full effort levels.

Can hasn't done that in the last 2 months though and that has changed my opinion on him. I would drop him for the Ozil goal against Arsenal on it's own. Not because a player ran off him from midfield, but because he watched Ozil do it and then gestured at the defence afterwards as if it was their fault. He's turned into a lazy get, because he's no longer committed. If he won't apply himself, then i don't give a monkeys about his world cup dreams. What about the 30 million Liverpool fans who are dreaming about silver ware this season? Can shouldn't play for the club, but Dennis makes a very good point, that he will probably have to with Henderson being injured. Personally I'd play Matty Virtue from the u23's ahead of Can, right now. He is a monster who never bottles a tackle and will run through barbed wire for a chance at a future here. Can has no heated interest in our club now and we should only use him if we have to from now onwards.

Well said Tristan, Samuel and Swish. it's ridiculous some of the comments on here people wanting to punish a player for not signing a new contract that he's under no obligation to do so.

These players are human beings doing a job and so long as he's giving his all why under an existing contract, why should we not applaud him for his efforts and use him on the pitch? Why punish him for something he's entirely within his rights to do?

The only problem comes in should he fail to give his all, in which case he gets dropped (just like any other player) . I doubt he'd be that unprofessional though and not a good idea for the lad in WC year.

End of.

ED001 - its called gardening leave, I like the Redmen TV analysis of Emre - he is a wood cutter rather than a carpenter. LFC have done quite well with players we do not want to leave on a free - I cannot think of anyone since Macca that we wanted to stay but did not and wind down their contract. Plus Emre is still a LFC player with a LFC contract and he will fulfill his contractual obligation which is playing to the best of his woodcutting abilities regardless what the future holds for Emre,

MrDennis, How is the sticking point over the contract relatively easy to sort? Can wants guaranteed football which Klopp can't promise. He also wants a buyout clause which the club do not want. If you give one player a buyout clause, then every subsequent player will want one therefore weakening our hand in the transfer market.

In my opinion, everything has been done properly. LFC offered the best deal they could and Can and his agent are sticking to what they want. If a deal can't be reached then it is inevitable that the player will leave at the end of his contract and nobody is to blame.

You can't force a player to sign and you can't force a club into an unfair deal.

Good luck to him.

Yyyaaaaawwwwnnnn! The uncertainty surrounding coutinho and can has great potential to derail a top 4 challenge.

It sends a better message now to sell coutinho with confidence and take the 140 mill. It says to the rest of the squad I trust you to get the job done re top 4.

If you look at klopps previous teams they were all about pace power and high press. If you look at the Keita buy to me he is looking that way again. He wants box to box midfielder. Coutinho is tricky and a genius at times but he does not fit with that future for me. Whereas salah mane and firmino do. So sell now and reinvest wisely in the summer.

Regards can I think that the lad has behaved well enough over this. I think he has made his intent clear to the club. Tbh If you look at the quality of midfield we are looking to create he won't get in it regularly in the future. He has moments of quality but not often enough. So for me heads off in the summer with a pat on the back and a thanks for your service.

May be it is just where I have worked but most folks working notice behave well and act professionally. Because it is wise never to fully close a door.

Jordz, lewondowski agreed to sign for Bayern from Dortmund, and had an electric final year with Dortmund and even played Bayern in the champions league final. It shouldn't affect the player if he plays Juve, as I'm sure he'd rather win it with us before he leaves, than watch his new team win it before he arrives.

MK my point was more around the hypocrisy around these contracts with players. Totally get that if theyā€™re not playing well they should be dropped- but I think heā€™s just had a few lapses of concentration. If I recall it was his driving run as he rode two tough challenges to get us the free kick against burnley which we got the winner from- that did not look like a man not trying. Itā€™s a World Cup year and he needs to play to get included in the Germany squad which hopefully means he needs to play well for us to do that.

The main sticking point as I understand was the wish to have a release clause rather than guaranteed playing time.

Mr Dennis - Not really sure what you mean with your comments in regards to Emre's recent performances. You say he walked through the game at Arsenal and Swansea. I was at the game at Emirates and Emre covered a massive amount of ground, due to Milner rarely being in the correct position defensively. Along with that, just before Coutinho got subbed off, Emre actually went down with cramp, yet continued to play on, though he had run himself into the ground. Alongside that against Burnley it was Emre who won the free kick which we scored from in the 94th minute. He was the one showing desire, going forward. Hardly someone who is not trying.
Not sure why people are so against Emre. Yes, at times he hasn't fulfilled his potential and he does have a habit of slowing things down in the middle of the park, but he has always put in 100% effort, and its a shame I feel he's playing his best football for us.
Also he is seeing out his contract. He signed his contract and now he's seeing it out. Isn't that the honourable thing to do? He committed to a contract and stuck with his word. Coutinho on the other hand signs a contract last year, but wants out, yet he's not getting as much grief.

First time post, as the post regarding Emre's performance really grated on me, as I feel its so uninformed.

I think it is absolute nonsense that Can hasn't given us a 100% commitment this year. He like every other player has done so on the pitch. Just because they are off their game doesn't mean they aren't trying. We need to get a bit of reality here.
As many who have defended him on here have said he wants assurances of regular first team football and possibly in a position that Klopp feels others can do better so he has chosen to look for an alternative. This is common practise in any business. Indeed I have had to go on 'gardening leave' for a period of time when giving notice to my employee as I was within Senior Management and they felt it would be detrimental for me to continue working for them. This isn't the case with Can unless we were playing Juve. Loan players aren't allowed to play against their employees so no doubt we would leave him out if we drew them.
Some fans on here simply either don't understand or just think as it is Liverpool we can do what we like when we like whilst criticising other clubs or players morals.

Personally I agree with the above. I would drop Can. I think he has dealt with things in an unprofessional manner, he has let his contract run down and I think that's pretty poor to be honest. He could have just signed a new one so the club could get a few quid for him. If you ask my it's good ridden, I don't rate him, he is a player whom is inconsistent and doesn't turn it on when it really matters, he has scored some big goals but in my opinion he's not really a world beater. As soon as keita comes in he will be out of the team anyway.

Oxogravy the difference between your place of work and being a professional footballer is that youā€™re not likely to be subject to injury that would affect your next place of work in the course of carrying out your duties. Can has taken his foot off the pedal and is coasting most games.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure if losing Can is a big loss or not. At times I think he's great, other times I feel we could do better. I believe (just my opinion) he wouldn't be leaving if Klopp didn't think he could cope without him. I imagine he has an idea of who he will replace him with.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's a fair point Swish cleaner, but it is much easier to motivate yourself to make a forward run, than it is to track back and help out your team mates.

It's possibly not even deliberate. Perhaps subconsciously he does care so he isn't concentrating or making defensive effort. If all he has to offer in the last 2 months is a header against Brighton and winning a free kick against Burnley, then I'm still not convinced. Everyone wants to attack. The true measure of how committed a player is, is how much effort they put in to doing the dirty work. Can used to be great at it. He'd help out the defence, head away corners, get stuck into tackles etc. He's not doing that.

People are confusing what I'm saying. I don't want Can dropped because he won't sign a contract. I want him dropped because he's not trying hard enough. His heads been in Turin for 8 weeks at least.

i am not a great Fan of Emre Can but he is at LFC until the end of the season and should be used where he can be useful not dropped and left to rot, its not like he has been on strike or anything he has tried his best when he is on the pitch, i don't think he has ever been good enough but he has always tried and i wish him good luck at Juve or wherever he goes but we need to use out assets so to drop him completely would never make sense.

What's the score if Keita, Can or Coutinho were to get a bad injury before joining their new clubs? Is it just tough on the new club and look to the insurance? Could it affect the deal? Bit like forking out for a new car then finding out it's in the garage for 6 months - or worse - a write off.

If we judge on contribution alone Henderson Milner and Wijnaldum are ahead of him. On his day he has a worldy in him, he's strong and has a good touch and decent range of passing although I think he is guilty of being caught in possession far too often. I would figure Klopp intelligent enough to rotate him in to the squad just as he has been doing all along. I wish him well. He will be loved there.

Agree Amerigo, on his day, you can see why there is interest. However, he seems to dwell on the ball a lot and when caught out almost always concedes a foul when chasing back. I think he is easily replaceable so i don't have any qualms with him leaving. All the best to the bloke, seems to have always given it his all.

I wish him all the best at Juve. But we are essentially stuck with a player for the rest of the season who has nothing invested in how we finish and is clearly more concerned with not picking up any serious injury that might prevent his move. I stand by my comments on his performances in midfield this season, Arsenal simply run past him as if he wasnā€™t there and he was our worst performer in the other games as he looks like heā€™s just going through the motions.

I find it hard to believe that any professional player in this day and age would demand to start every game knowing they could have 50 plus games a season.
Surely it would have to be down to clauses, wages and length of contract offered if negotiations break down.

Klopp is not a fan of can, if hendo is fit he starts do can won't get minutes, can't blame the lad for leaving and improving himself. However the loss of the transfer fee is bad. With hendo out for a month and no other cover we need to keep and not cash in now. a class DM should have been bought years ago now. And yet all the names we are chasing again are attackers.

There seems to be a lot of names I barely recognise (newish? ) On here all saying the same bs.
Drop Can because he wants to/ is leaving? Serious? So should have dropped Coutinho then since the summer, Goretzka should have also been dropped since he is running his contract down but no wait itā€™s only ours who are doing wrong and if we are buying someone he needs to be match ready and fit right?

Lets tell Wenger to drop 2 of his best in their position also who are running their contract down (Ozil, Sanchez)

Can is IMO our best central midfielder (not including pipco (or popcorn as autocorrect changed it to) ) and dropping him is a dumb idea.

Even if we sign a CM this window iā€™d want Can and whoever we sign (if good enough) to be starting most games until Keita can take his place.
Dont get me wrong I do like Wini, but 75% of games I donā€™t even realize he is on the pitch but the remaining 25% he does show some form of quality. Hendo really needs to get back to the way he was before he got injured.

Plus as said already itā€™s a world cup year, and he is a professional so he will still give his all.
