Bayern Munich have confirmed they have agreed a deal to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina with the Spaniard set for a medical in the next 24 hours.

Believable128 Unbelievable16

Can't see how Reina thinks giving up wages, moving to Germany and riding the pine are good career moves, but I wish him all the best if he wants to go.

Agree3 Disagree0

To be honest I don't wish him the best I hope he sits on the bench for the rest of his career

Agree5 Disagree7

He is obviously and purely only money oriented to agree to sit on the bench at his age with his talent. Probably the reason reason him and Brendon didn't see eye to eye. What a shame and waste. Very dissapointing, someone else who doesn't deserve their talent.

Agree5 Disagree0

Reusch- disgraceful comment to one of the best keepers LFC has ever had. And a good guy too.

Agree6 Disagree14

A great servant to LFC, think Rodgers has missed a trick here. He could really have helped Mignolet's development.

Agree4 Disagree1

Bayerns bench is certainly more attractive than ours at this moment in time.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think pepe and BR must dislike each other, he wants to leave because he not playing then why go to the club with the best keeper in the world .

Agree1 Disagree0

Sometimes there are trends in football squads, like tactics for example and also players.
I've noticed Barca, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal, Munich now all have two no.1 GKs.
We now don't.

Agree0 Disagree0

He wouldn't even make our bench, he's 4th choice, will be happy to get rid. Frankly I'm surprised Pep wants him, I guess he knows him from the good ol' days. I just hope the move doesn't get ballsed up by Reina refusing a pay-cut.

Agree0 Disagree1

I would prefer him over Migs.
Much better ball deployment and organises the defence much better.
I guess the hatchet was too far buried to come back from!
Now. we need a great (not just good) number one

Agree2 Disagree0

Like him or not as a person RedKev, fact is he is a top GK. Without being exact in my memory, wasn't it about 2-3 seasons ago where we had two keepers out via injury and suspension? Or both suspended? Isn't that how Jones got his first game time?

What happens now, if that very possible event happens? Ward? Did BR even give him 20minutes this preseason?

Agree0 Disagree0

Well hopefully a new keeper will be signed, Zieler or Neto perhaps.

Agree0 Disagree0

Reina didn't think about Liverpool when he was bragging about going to Barcalona!
Then it turned out they were never interested in him.
Good riddance I say.
And good to get some more dead wood off our payroll

Agree1 Disagree1

Let's all hope he'll pass the medicals then! This will be transfer of the season for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

People with very short memories on here. It was poor form the way pepe tried to engineer moves not once but twice. Not to mention the poor form on the pitch for 2 seasons. One of my favourite players ever during his peak an I thought he was nailed on to be captain one day what a shame

Spanish newspaper Marca revealed that Liverpool are so keen to bring the 22-year-old to Anfield - they have offered Suso on a season-long loan to sweeten the deal.

The Spanish international has already proven his desire to push through a move to Anfield by agreeing to drop his excessive wage demands.

And combined with Liverpool's generous deal - Moreno could make a permanent switch before the end of the week.

Believable65 Unbelievable28

I am getting so fed up with the whole lack of respect for Suso. He is going to be such a huge player and we are risking losing him. All this fuss about Sterling and I firmly believe that Suso is twice the player. Play the boy and reap the rewards!

On aserious not Ed's, why is Suso always pushed aside? Is it ony me who sees his talent?

Agree1 Disagree5

{Ed002's Note - He wanted commitments and I cannot see how the club could grant those. Hence him wanting the move to Porto.}

05 Aug 2014 20:45:08
Suso is a talented kid but saying he's twice the player Sterling is is absolutely ludicrous

Agree16 Disagree2

Sevilla would be a much better move for Suso. He needs game time as his best positions are the ones Sterling and Coutinho (and Lallana) will occupy in the team, but I think he'll have harder competition week in week out in La Liga versus the Portuguese league. We can use young players (Ibe, Smith, etc.) to make up the additional numbers or use Can/Henderson/Allen in those positions.

I want to see Suso stay here. Both of his goals in the preseason games were very classy, and he's looked good when given an opportunity. Would not at all be upset if he goes on loan as part of the Moreno deal, nor if he stays and tries to get in the matchday squad.

Honestly, I want the club to fork out the additional cash, keep Suso and get Moreno, though I think the offer on the table is one Sevilla won't be able to refuse.

Agree3 Disagree0

DP your absolute disrespect for probably one of our best English talents since the arrival of Gerrard is what's wrong with the premier league and why English players never succeed. delusional fans who would rather big up a Spanish player and play a player a foreign player rather than a English player annoys the living day lights out of me.

Agree6 Disagree4

Apologies I didn't mean DP I ment BIG D :).

Agree2 Disagree0

Scouse Ben how have I disrespected anyone?

I simply copied & pasted some of the article that I read to let others know what was going on with Moreno that was it buddy!

Agree2 Disagree1

I agree that Suso should stay! he's a great talent and that loaning last season has made a far better player than he was! I agree we should stump up the money and give Suso a chance! He, ll have a big sell on value in years to come! Now we, re virtually giving away!

Agree2 Disagree0

Echo reckons suso getting a new contract

Agree1 Disagree1

I must have missed Suso signing a new contract recently? Otherwise a loan deal would be mad.

And I'm with DP on this, Suso is a big talent but for me Sterling is far more dangerous, far trickier and far more consistent.

Agree2 Disagree0

Twice the player?

In the 18s and junior squads, yes. He was better.
But Raheem hit that next level sooner than many thought he would, and has continued to progress. Suso, in my opinion, has that next level, but is yet to reach it.
The problem is, he's not prepared to give the time it might take for him to be the player he can be. Perhaps he thinks he's ready? Who knows. But his time is still yet to come.

Agree2 Disagree0

He is a very good player who promises to develop into something more. The big thing is that the eds have stated previously that Suso has refused to sign a new contract unless he was guaranteed more playing time. So it wouldn't surprise me if Suso ends up leaving, not because LFC don't rate him but because they just can't fit him into the team at the moment. In which case since he only has a year left on his contract, why not use him as a trade for someone who will go into the first team plus gets his wages off the books.

Agree0 Disagree0

BigD, I think Scouse Ben is having a bit of mare!

He didn't mean DP, he didn't mean BigD, BUT his comment was (I think) directed at Kevman28, as the only post here that is disrespecting a huge English talent is Kevman's who says that he believe's Suso is twice the player that Sterling is.

Imo, his post is clearly ludicrous and I completely agree with Red7's sentiments above. Sterling has kicked on, Suso hasn't yet and he needs to prove that he can.

Any truth to the Reina to Munich rumours?

Cheers

Believable50 Unbelievable9

{Ed002's Note - It is possible if he lowers his wage demands and accepts he will be on the bench.}

05 Aug 2014 19:15:21
Why would he do that though? he has more chance at playing at LFC and if you are right will be on less money expect this to fall through

Agree2 Disagree4

Seems like a lot of hassle and loss of money to move and warm the bench elsewhere. neuer will go down as the best keeper ever (mark my words), no chance over there.

Agree5 Disagree1

He has got no chance of playing at LFC, he is 4th choice, he is done.

Hi Eds, All this talk about Lavezzi the guy is over the hill can't last 90 minutes. Cheaper option with Brendan's connections with Reading and Northern Ireland at around £6mill is young Connor Wickham. Scored some great goals when recalled by Sunderland against top opposition towards the end of last season. Bit of a rough diamond but someone to develop. Any interest Eds?

Believable7 Unbelievable75

{Ed002's Note - Not from Liverpool.}

Why spend £6m on a player who isn't good enough and looks like he never will be. He'd be a pointless signing and it would be a bad move for himself too. He should just stay and force his way into the team there at Sunderland.

Agree3 Disagree0

Then Lambert must be sitting on a bench feeding bread to ducks on the riverside.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 07:47:51
Just because he played youth football with Reading and his father is Northern Irish? I should think we try to sign players based on more than that. I agree Lavezzi wouldn't be a good signing, but the rumours are rubbish anyway so don't worry.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2014 17:50:12
Have we lodged an 18mil bid for lavezzi of PSG?

Believable9 Unbelievable50

{Ed002's Note - No idea.}

Hope not

Agree4 Disagree0

I'll accept him if he comes, but I really not sure that's a big improvement from Borini.

Eds, is there any update at your end on Moreno? Various news outlets are stating that we are close. With the daily fail even stating that a £16m fee has been agreed. Only really credible source of info out there is from you guys

Have searched for it, but nothing recent on there other than discussions about whether he would up sticks after a few years to Madrid

Cheers

Believable21 Unbelievable12

{Ed002's Note - As I explained at the weekend, the news from Copenhagen was that Liverpool had changed their offer again to cash plus Suso.}

Is that suso on loan or permanent ed?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I understand a loan with an option to buy.}

Great. Suso looks good in the preseason games.

Agree1 Disagree2

05 Aug 2014 11:22:00
Ed002. Can you explain the logic of the Javier Manquillo transfer to me because it doesn't make sense to me at all from both Liverpool and Atletico's perspective.

Why would Liverpool loan a young upcoming right back in a position we are overloaded in? And if he is so highly rated why would Atletico loan him. Keep him or atleast make some money by selling him. I find it quite stupid - If he plays well and we don't buy him, then atletico have a better player. If he doesn't play well he blocks the progress of another young player like mclaughlin.

I know we have been stupid with our transfers in the past but this defies all logic

Believable20 Unbelievable23

{Ed002's Note - It makes no sense for me and I guess perhaps Rodgers does not see Kelly and Flanagan as good enough.}

Let's not forget Wisdom, who had a great loan in the Championship last season and has first team prem experience with us as well.
Another strong message sent out to our youngsters who do well and progress on loan. Goodbye.

Agree3 Disagree0

From yesterday performance from Kelly and Johnson against united says everything. Kelly was caught do many times by Shaw. And we all know defensive side of Johnson. Flano is good but as we know we have 4 competition now. So we need more players.

Agree5 Disagree0

Kelly will be used as a center back next season as Agger is likely to be sold and with Johnson likely to be sold that will leave Flanagan competing with Manquillo for the right back position.

Agree3 Disagree2

05 Aug 2014 19:02:22
For me Kelly just isn't a natural RB and isn't good enough to be anything other than backup at Liverpool, Johnson is done and will hopefully be sold, which only leaves Flanno so him sharing/competing RB duties with Manquillo makes sense to me.Saw the opportunity to improve the squad and too it. I would like to see McClaughlin get the league cup games, I think he's good enough to compete with the other two.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That would not seem to be the plan.}

Kelly isn't good enough and should be sold if it wasnt for the fact he is club grown we wouldn't even be having this discussion the same with Johnson.

Which only leaves flanagan so bringing in a new RB makes perfect sense I assume the loan situation is because we are looking at FFP aswell giving us a safety net look at aspas how much better would it have been if we loaned him?

Agree2 Disagree0

Guys we constantly go on about the great work the manager has done to get us to where we are now, we also say to trust the manager too.
So maybe the Ed is right, maybe BR doesn't think Flanno, Kelly etc are good enough full backs for Liverpool so he has decided to bring in someone who he feels is a good fullback.

Agree2 Disagree0

I personally think signing Manquillo as well as Moreno would be a master stroke by Rodgers.

Offload Johnson at the first available opportunity (even if its on a free at the end of his contract) and you have 2 workable, potentially excellent right backs for (and I'm guessing here) around the wages of Johnson by himself. Sell Agger (who will always be in our hearts) before we get no return on him and Kelly can double as a fifth CB/third RB no problem (and as he's working his way back to fitness, he doesn't need to play week in week out right now).

LB: Moreno, Enrique, McClaughlin, (Can?)
RB: Flanagan, (Johnson), Manquillo, Kelly
CB: Sakho, Lovren, Skrtel, Toure

I'd be tickled pink with that defense.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I spoke with someone well respected as an ex-player and all round great guy and he said that Can should be used as a LB - not because he is 100mph going forward but because he feels he can play a winger out of the game.}

He has an excellent point. He's robust on the ball, perhaps more so than Enrique (they are similar in that regard) but he's quicker to get it off his foot. He defends well, and. correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Hyppia play him at left back for Leverkusen? Perhaps that's a last resort if Moreno doesn't come in.

He makes a very versatile companion for Gerrard and Henderson, and if he's played to the left side of midfield, I'm sure he can track back in support of a more direct left back (like Moreno) and of course he offers a lot in attack as well.

Flanagan, for me, is still the best choice on the right, as he's a little less likely to lose possession compared to Johnson, who really needs to be more composed on the ball. I would prefer he never gets into the box if it meant he could keep a left winger from getting in a cross.

Agree0 Disagree0

Makes no sense to me either, just like the Ilori deal (he was also highly rated).

Agree0 Disagree0

If Johnson is sold (hopefully) that leaves just Flanagan and Kelly, who let's be honest will probably be out injured for the season again, as well as maybe McLaughlin for RB and I feel Flanagan is not yet ready for the responsibility of holding the RB position mainly by himself, so another quality right back for a season is what we need before Flanagan is fully ready. In terms of Athletico's benefit, Manquillo is not yet above Juanfran, so he won't get as much game time as he will at Liverpool, so a year of more game time will help further his development.

Agree0 Disagree0

Juanfran is being sold Cornish. I'm not overly keen on the buy back or recall option, we could be producing their RB for them next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kelly, honestly I think is over-rated. I like the guy, he's come through the system and maybe that makes us more emotionally attached to him, but is he good enough for a team challenging for the title and playing champions league. Probably not. If he comes off the bench do you have overwhelming confidence or do you think, hmm, this could be flakey here for a bit.

The Manquillo deal makes sense, a lengthy loan to see if he can adjust to not only the premiership but also life in england. if he does great, if he doesnt, we've not lost anything apart from his wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002 you have said a few times you think we should of went for Pedro but was he available would he have been interested in a move to Liverpool? And are you sure we didn't ask about him but they said no?

Believable9 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - Pedro is available at the right price - I don't know what he would think of a move.}

Do you think we could still move for him ed? He may not be Sanchez but i've always rated him pretty highly.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The opportunity has been there and the club has done nothing with respect to him.}

No chance, too old for that money, why not just sign Valbuena for half the price? It'll be Bony and Los Niños. If another WF comes in it'd likely be Konoplyanka anyway.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Valbuena has already moved.}

I know Valbuena has already moved, I was speaking in the hypothetical past perfect conditional tense. If we had been planning to sign Lavezzi, why wouldn't we have just signed Valbuena instead? Type thingy. ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats like saying why did we sign Emre Can and not Pogba. You can't just buy any player you want and there are a lot more complications to transfers

Apparently Moreno is so keen to join us that he has agreed to lower his initial agreed wage to ensure the move goes through asap. A good sign if it is to be believed.

Believable36 Unbelievable20

Been watching a bit of him on YouTube and whilst he looks really good going forward he has looked all over the place at the back?
Any one else think the same?

Agree1 Disagree2

Why hasn't he sign? Longest boring transfer ever

Agree5 Disagree0

If true, I like the sound of him - it means he wants to play for the club and badge. Depends who is saying this as to how much we can read in to it.

Sometimes it is a lack of understanding in tactics that causes the players defensive problems, I hope this has been resolved now as leaked too many goals for defensive errors. If it is, I am sure he will be fine.

Bony is a done deal! According to my mate's dad.

Going to be announced on Friday/Monday along with Moreno.

Onwards and upwards!

Believable25 Unbelievable87

Why wait if done?

Agree1 Disagree1

Is your Dad's mate Ian Arye By any chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bony is a decent signing but I think we should go for a world class signing that will wow everyone. tbh from what I've seen so far . i'm very worried that we haven't brought in a quality striker yet. its going to be a tougher season with CL football etc. and I haven't seen lambert do anything special since he has joined . if I was Brendan I would of kept borini and brought in a quality striker . but hey its early days so I hope all these signings we brought in proves me wrong

Agree0 Disagree0

Bony is a quality striker.

Agree1 Disagree0

Not sure why some people bang on about buying ready made world class players, when have we ever done that? I thought we were all about buying good players who fit our team and making them great with us?

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Aug 2014 13:54:40
A few media articles this morning are suggesting that Swansea have contacted Liverpool and Spurs and are willing to negotiate in regards to Bony. If true we could now realistically get him for £14m-£16m as I'm certain Swansea will want to make a small profit on the £12m they spent to get him. We would also be the most attractive prospect given that he wants to play Champions league football. Hope Macca's right as he will be a fantastic addition to the team.

Believable40 Unbelievable28

I doubt we will sign him to be honest but I would love it if he did! What are your thoughts on this eds?
