Well today has been an eventful one. According to reports, we signed Chilwell at 11am, Horn at 1pm, Tierney at 4pm, Hart at 8pm, Courtois at 9pm and Zielinski at 10pm.

At least we have good options in goal next season now. Mignolet 4th choice!

Can't take the risk with him 4th choice. Let's get Zieler too 😎.

Eds is Ben Chilwell still a firm target and possibility for us this summer? Or only if Moreno leaves?

Believable1 Unbelievable17

{Ed001's Note - we are looking for a left back to compete/replace Moreno.}

03 May 2016 13:36:49
I would rather we replace Moreno edoo1, don't know much about chilwell tbh apart from, he is highly thought of but that's not much to go on these days as most players are, for the reported fee of £8m, I would rather we try and sign Jonas hector, at least this guy can defend.

Agree4 Disagree15

{Ed001's Note - Moreno is still young enough to raise his game is the point. So it could end up pushing him on to achieve, in a similar way to Finnan, who would just get better and better each time a new right back arrived.}

03 May 2016 14:39:14
Steve Finnan? Omg. he, phil bab and neil ruddock typify the souness era.

Agree0 Disagree44

{Ed001's Note - do you actually know who Steve Finnan is? In fact do you actually have any idea what you are talking about as both him and Babb joined us after Souness had gone.}

03 May 2016 14:39:54
Completely agree with Ed on this one, Moreno is still very young and has so much quality. If he wasnt already playing for us he is th type of player we would be screaming for us to sign. For me the faults in his defending are things like positioning and being rash which a coach with the reputation of Klopp for improving players should have no problem fixing.

Agree9 Disagree14

03 May 2016 14:40:59
I see your point ed001, let's hope the message gets through to Moreno, as up to know his intelligence is sadly lacking.

Steve Finnan the best RB since Rob Jones.

Steve finnan was quality and that lad above Leesomething has as much football knowledge as my 2 yr old daughter.

Always liked finnan, but curious about eds opinion of arbeloa (forgive spelling) as a player.

Personally always thought he was under-rated as a full-back. Not the greatest going forward but solid defensively. Two champions league medals and two European championships + a la liga title (plus a few other cups) isn't too bad.

Agree6 Disagree12

{Ed001's Note - excellent defender, decent technically as a player too, the issue with him was he never wanted to be in Liverpool and forced his way out. Bit of a sulker by all accounts.}

03 May 2016 15:26:19
Oh and a World Cup and two euro championship medals. weirdly forgot he played spain.

Chilwell is a real possibility then mate? Do you think he can make it in prem?

{Ed002's Note - Try the search engine. Nothing has changed.}

Agree, Moreno has his weaknesses but if he can polish up his positional sense, improve his crossing slightly and learn how to use his right foot, he'll be very good. He has time on his side.

I would love to see us bring in a proper defensive option like Hector (who as a bonus can double at DM in case of injuries like we have now) .

Steve finnan. Unsung hero. Fantastic defender. Our best right back since babbel.

I remember istanbul when for the second half the team came out and Finnan was gone and Traore was still on the pitch. I nearly cried. Got over it soon enough though :o)

oh such good times.

Even though he is still hopeless with an end product in the final opposing third, and his defensive positioning, I really think Moreno has improved his tackling over the season. I see more cleaner tackles. But he clearly has not improved as much as some of the others. I agree that he needs a push. Either through competition for his place, or out the door. Up to him.

Agree3 Disagree14

03 May 2016 18:41:01
I like Moreno an despite his faults he still rolls up his sleeves an try's his best. He has improved an will push on again . Watch him support going forward think he's let down be couts reluctance to track back.

Agree5 Disagree12

03 May 2016 18:58:53
Moreno has improved an we can't just look at his positioning from the point of players getting in behind him when the ball breaks down during our attack. Against Villareal for instance, they continuously targeted that area and Klopp did nothing about it, right up to the last min and ultimately where the goals came from. Moreno doesn't be in such advanced positions just because he likes to attack. he is obviously told to, or else he would be on the bench for ignoring orders.

Agree1 Disagree13

03 May 2016 19:41:48
Moreno has improved a lot. Goes missing sometimes but is starting to look a real threat bombing forward.

Can't believe all the praise 4 Moroneno? The guy hasn't a brain in his head. Can't defend 4 toffee and has no positional sense. I thought it was still important 4 defenders 2 defend? Guess not.

03 May 2016 23:26:06
what? who do you suggest takes his place?

Agree0 Disagree8

04 May 2016 00:21:02
Theres no comparison between Finnan and moreno in my opinion as as a young player I played aginst Finnan years ago regulary when he was with Wembly utd here in ireland and back then he was such a great reader of the game @ such a young age at that time if you put moreno in the same squad as finnan and finnan was at the age i played against him, you would start finnan everytime and as for playing for Liverpool Ed is 100% correct everytime a player was brought in to compete with him he would improve immensely and that showed his commitment and character that many players lack these days its such a pity players like him are far and few between these days, I really do hope we can find a solid replacement for moreno as he has always been a liability since coming here and if i'm honest Clyne is not too far behind him as well.

Hey ed02. i know this might be a stupid question but croatian media are pumping the story of kovacic joining liverpool as goetze might be out of reach and with crazy salary. does it have any legs as i'm a big admirer of mateo i think he needs the right coach to explode someone to trust in him and give him a proper role. thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath.}

I honestly can't see why we would want to buy him when we have bought a similar player in Grujic? Surely we should be scouting and going after a proper defensive minded midfielder who can actually tackle?

Agree4 Disagree14

03 May 2016 12:13:52
We have Henderson, Can and Milner who can play b2b. Stewart, Chirivella and Lucas to play cdm. Grujic, Allen, Coutinho and Lallana who can play cam.

And that's just assuming Rossiter and Brannagan leave the club which is no guarantee.

I really don't think we need to worry about signing any midfielders when we need a keeper, a right back, a left back, a centre back and a wide forward.

Agree2 Disagree15

03 May 2016 13:05:31
MK the weekend showed the need for a top class centre midfielder who can tackle and boss it.

Agree6 Disagree17

03 May 2016 13:26:47
Mr Dennis, the weekend showed that when we have both of our first choice midfielders out injured and we choose to rest the other 3 fit ones (Lucas, Milner and Allen) that Chirivella, Brannagan and Stewart don't have enough experience. You can't seriously use Sunday to justify needing a midfielder when we played our 6th, 7th and 8th choice centre midfielders, can you? Not to mention we already have Allan out on loan, Rossiter injured and Grujic joining in the summer. That's 11 centre midfielders. How many do you want? Another 5 so we have 8 for each position? You know, just incase there's a chronic stomach bug that spreads through the team and 14 players miss the game with the runs?

Agree5 Disagree13

03 May 2016 13:34:12
Yeah his name is Emre Can.

Agree3 Disagree12

03 May 2016 13:35:48
Oh and just so you know, Stewart made 5 successful tackles, 2 interceptions and 4 clearances. More than any other player on the pitch. It's not his fault he had a child next to him in Pedro who looked like a very skinny rabbit in the headlights of an Artic Truck.

I think you're being very knee jerk about this. Klopp rates Stewart very highly and Sunday will have only reassured Klopp that Stewart is up to first team football. He looked more comfortable than any other outfield player in our team and the result was in no way a reflection of his performance. It was hard for him to control the game because he was surrounded by dross performances.

Unless Hendo, Lucas or Can leave then it'd be foolish to sign another midfielder. Grujic is just arriving and Stewart has signed a new contract and is going nowhere.

Agree5 Disagree13

03 May 2016 13:07:20
Klopp doesn't rate any of the CDM you mentioned hence he plays Can / Henderson in that role, what are you even talking Adam. Mateo is a touch of class and you will only realize if he pulls that red shirt. His first class touch on the ball makes hims just elegant.
Grujic is just 19.

Agree1 Disagree18

03 May 2016 15:16:01
Grujic is 19 yes. But Hendo is 26. Lucas is 29. Can is 22. And Stewart is 22. Besides, what does being 19 have to do with it? Isn't Delle Alli the same age? Would you pass on signing him for £5m?

He plays Henderson and Can in deeper roles Harry because Lucas is seen as experienced cover and Stewart is just finding his feet in the Premier League.

We don't need any midfielders unless we sell someone. I can tell I'm not going to get through to you though because you've spent the last 3 years claiming Henderson isn't good enough and needs replacing; which is crap by the way.

Agree6 Disagree13

03 May 2016 18:22:36
Mk it may have escaped your notice but teams have been able run through our midfield at will over the last few years and that was painfully obvious on Sunday, we've a complete lack of bite in midfield and we need a Xhaka, Kante or a Lars Bender type to give us that steel. But we certainly don't need kovacic who for all his lovely flicks and occasional Hollywood ball offers nothing. I think Allen and Lucas will go this summer so a proper nails hard defensive midfielder will be needed. Otherwise we'll struggle again.

Agree3 Disagree14

03 May 2016 22:18:53
To be fair, kovacic is quality and I'm all for signing quality over quantity. If he's an improvement on our starting 11. Sign him.

Agree1 Disagree8

03 May 2016 22:28:55
If Lucas goes I agree with you, we need another midfielder. Odds are it would be Zielinski though who isn't exactly a destroyer. Klopp rates Can though so he is the closest we will see to a destroyer I reckon.

Agree1 Disagree6

03 May 2016 17:04:49
Adam, I agree with your last line as we would need to move 1 or 2 midfielders to make room for someone and we should be moving Allen and Lucas to bring in one.

Regarding Henderson. I still say he isn't a Holding midfielder by any means.

Alli has played in England while Grujich is yet to touch his feet in England.

Agree1 Disagree6

04 May 2016 11:29:22
We need to stop teams running through us at will, we're a soft touch in midfield and that has been exposed far too often.

Kovacic isn't a tough player by any stretch of the imagination and neither is Zeilinski and we actually could do with midfielders that are physically strong and able to tackle, both of them are lightweights who would get blown aside by a decent gust of wind.

Honestly don't get why people cream their pants over Kovacic, hasn't set the world alight at Madrid and was hardly the greatest player at inter, text book youtube highlights player.

thanks eds for your work regarding transfers on the site. cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable12

{Ed001's Note - it is unlikely, he needs to get back to fitness. With us so short handed in midfield we might see him make the bench, still a bit early to call as different players have different recovery rates.}

God i hope so.
