I'm dissapointed to see Mancini seems to be using Johnson more and more, obviously he's realised what a talent the boy is, it's a shame cos obviously it means there's little chance of us getting him. England's best talent in my opinion

Chris in Tamworth

Chris, disagree mate the boy is average at best. The games I've seen him in he flatters to deceive. A few LFC fans slat Downing but for me there ain't much difference, except Downing is more of a team player in my opinion..- TMac

Have to agree with Tmac on this one. There is no doubt that when it comes to pure skill on the ball he's off the charts. But when it comes to being part of a team, he's not the best. He could be great but to me he's more like say Tarabt then anything else.

RDL

I always rated him but he's meant to be something of a disruptive influence. Also i don't think there was much chance of City ever selling him to us for a reasonable price.

Well atleast johnson will constantly try to either score or beat defenders. his pass was the most exciting part in balotellis goal. and he obviously has more assist n goals than downing has for us this season. im not saying i dont like downing, im just saying that there is alot of difference between downing n johnson.

Kaizer

Downing has improved recently but still looks very ordinary against top teams and I believe he always will.

Left it a while as I was unsure whether to post this but here goes. I'm a Cardiff fan and at the final last Sunday I went into the ground at 215. I was 8 rows from the front by the corner flag. Robbie fowler was being interviewed by sky and waved at me, or what I thought was me. I turned around and there was a guy on talking on his mobile in a scouse accent. I got chatting with him asking why he was in cardiffs end and he said Robbie had sorted him a ticket. We were talking about players and how we thought the game would play out etc etc. we got on to andy Carroll, and talked about his transfer fee compared to his ability and that's he's lost his edge blah blah blah. Anyway from his mouth was. Andy Carroll has been told he has until the end of the season to improve, on and off the pitch, or he is gone. I have no reason to lie and I am just passing on information for you guys to discuss

Ccfc Fan

I want andy carroll to come good as i think he has it in hin to b.class but...
hes not gettin the run.of games he needs when he is on a little bit of form hes.benched..
pay 35 mill an bench him when he starts gettin form makes no sense to me

After his dire performance against Cardiff, what was the option? Kenny is clearly under pressure to produce results, and Carroll is not aiding that cause.

I stopped believing you when you thought robbie was waving at you :)

I see no reason to disbelieve this guy. I also think the comments about Andy could well be true although I admit I thought he was great at Newcastle and would love to see him play like that for us.
CR

The real issue here is what type of football do we want to play. If you look at all the top european sides including those in the premiership they all play quick pass and move. No longer is it necessary to play with an old english style big centre forward indeed it's exactly the opposite. If we continue with Carroll we'll only ever be mid table as a result of the type of game we'll play ala stoke. He was a panic buy and he's not top four material. Sadly neither are many of last summers other buys.

I don't think liverpool would invest in a 21 year old if he would only be given 1 season

eds, any chance for rafa to come back to liverpool fc at the end of the season? {Ed002's Note - I doubt it.}

This is a joke right?

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - No, sorry to disappoint you Chris, I don't expect him back at the end of the season. Would you be happy with Steve Nicol instead?}

I meant the suggestion of Rafa to come back was a joke Ed

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - I was teasing you Chris.}

Ed002, you are a one!

Chris in Tamworth

Ed002 suffers from the rare condition of being a Chelsea fan!

Black Red {Ed001's Note - I think it is because she likes being older than the club's entire history......}

Why would anyone want rafa back he was useless and left the team with nothing but dross

Please please please make it so' king kenny clueless'and simply has to go

WHY WOULD YOU WANT RAFA BACK?
I don't agree with a lot of KD's tactics but he is not clueless and there is no doubt in my mind that Rafa would be a step backwards.
CR

How can anyone say KD is better than Rafa? KD is not a manager. Carroll, Henderson, Downing, Adam. Man, people say Rafa wasted money but Kenny spent all of that in 6 months!

And what happened when Rafa lost his right hand man. He blew the EPL championship with some stupid, arrogant substitutions. Also what has he achieved since he left LFC? Absolutely nothing.

To be fair to Kenny, his hand was forced with Carroll and Carroll plus 15 mill for Torres was not a bad deal.Others have been inconsistent although I feel Henderson will be a top EPL player soon and for a long time.

I might be slagged here, but if AVB does get the sack, i wish we could sign him up. I feel hs and Torres have the same problem, they are not used to Chelsea's style of play and management. I feel AVB and Liverpool can be an instant hit...

I think that if Liverpool had moved to get Paco Ayesteran instead of Kevin Keen we would have the genuine tactician on the sidelines that we are so badly lacking.

Sounds like he could be goin to Chelsea...

I thought Poulsen had already left for good?
Anyway, this season let's be honest, we've had plenty of shots, been very unlucky with a fair few but honestly, how many of them have been clear cut chances? We need to off players who are wasteful on the ball, players like Adam (I was praying for us to get him in the summer, but now I regret it), Johnson (defensively he's mid-table at best) and Henderson (Not sell him, but stop playing him so regularly). I know it's a long way to go until the summer but plans surely are there already. For me, we aren't getting top 4 and have to sort the problems, IMO we need to sell the following:
OUT
Doni, Brad Jones, Glen Johnson, Fabio Aurelio, Jamie Carragher (get him in that backroom), Charlie Adam.
Would like to see Dirk go, he's getting on and has struggled for large parts of the season. He's starting to perform again in recent weeks but it's inconsistent, as is Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll. We need to bring in a right winger, a centre mid and at least 1 striker. Would love to see Raheem get more games as well, could have a similar impact to Oclade-Chamberlain.
{Ed002's Note - My understanding is that Poulsen will be released at the end of this year - Liverpool are still paying most of his wages.}

Get rid of glen johnson,have u been watching us this year ? one of our best players ,
jeff {Ed001's Note - I have been watching us this year and I have not seen him be one of our best players. He has had a few good games, but mostly he has been poor at best. He is better on the left.}

Ed001, in regards to johnson and also to the original poster(johnson and adam). people point to johnson regularly as a weak link but hasn't the stats pointed towards him being part of one of the most consistent strongest back 5's this season in the league. and to add to that, how many goals can we re-count that he as a full back has been responsible for this season? would be interesting reading for someone to actually find some stats to prove his faults that consistently seem to get him in the eleven and subsequently in the england squad?
as for adam, his opta stats for ground covered hasn't been far off yaya toure's who is the hardest working midfielder in the premier league. his pass success rate is regularly above 85% sometimes 90% and also has the highest made passes in the lfc team most weeks. he has 8 league assists and 2 goals(10 and 4 all competitions) which is way infront of luka modric this season and did better than modric last season coincidentally. what do you really want for £8million as spurs aren't getting nowhere near it from luka and they value him at £30/40million. p.s, modric plays a more advanced role too this season....just saying.

s.p {Ed001's Note - well, against Cardiff in the cup final, for instance, it was him at fault for their first goal. He wandered off to the left flank, the ball was lost and instead of doing one of the two things you are coached to do, ie chase the ball down hard and put the opponent under pressure or get back into position as fast as you can, he ambled over towards the left flank where the ball was. Then made no attempt to get into position and instead just slotted into central defence between Agger and Skrtel leaving Gerrard to cover right back and Skrtel to have kittens trying to figure out what the hell he was doing and getting caught too deep trying to sort out the mess that Johnson had made. If he had a brain, he would have known that the best thing he could have done is to fill in for Gerrard in midfield or get back into his own position and allow Gerrard to get back into midfield. Instead he cost us a goal through his own stupidity, again. Johnson is lazy, mentally lazy I mean, he doesn't think, he puts us under pressure time and again by not watching his position, by losing the ball when he makes no attempt to move into space and a ball is played into the space he should be moving into. It has to be his attitude that is the problem, because his ability is without question and he plays so much better on the left.}

Spearing is average too

There are none so blind as those that do not want to see. Not saying Spearing is brilliant but there are a lot worse playing EPL and in good teams. There is very little to choose between him and Lucas in effectiveness for the team and some people think he is world class !
CR

Have to agree Johnson has been a bit inconsistent ,particularly defensively , but he is a far better player than Ed0001 seems to think. would not be a tragedy if he left but we would need a good replacement.Yes I know Kelly is good but the advantage Johnson has is that he can play both flanks equally well.

I see your point about where he was during the cup final as i went and watched the replay after your comments ed001. i was at the final and never noticed this during the game, in truth amongst the majority of the fans at the game he was considered one of our better performers during the match. as for his positional sense for the goal it's a fair point but the goal came from a good piece of interchanging from the cardiff players and a lack of communication between enrique and agger on the left hand side of the defence. one went for the ball and one stood still leaving the cardiff player free to score. professional footballers should be able to interchange and slot into players positions when the shape goes, there would be no point in desiring attacking full backs without this ability. the club obviously desire johnson and enrique to bomb on and the likes of gerrard and adam if close enough should fill the void. add to that also the point that were 7 lfc players in the box for the goal for cardiff, the responsibility to stop it should be on all their shoulders in my opinion.

on a side note again, criticism on charlie adam seems high again. loads of uneducated people calling him a lazy player. premier league stats for all games saturday found him to be the hardest working player in the league for the day, 7.07 miles. hardly lazy

I no you say we refused Honda last summer but would he be available in the summer. pops

We refused Honda last winter, but from what I remember of the Eds' information CSKA were much more wager to hang onto him this time round. So no part one.

No part two comes from the fact that the summer would be midway through the Russian season so they probably would be loathe to sell him.

TSP

PS:

Just remembered. Eds, a recollection of season's past has just appeared in my head. Weren't we linked to Honda years ago before he left VVV Venlo? My question is thus: were we actually interested or was that just paper speculation. {Ed002's Note - I don't recall interest when he was at Venlo but Liverpool were very interested the summer before last when Hodgson was in charge but blew their chance of Honda last January when he was available for about £8M - I assume because of lack of interest from Kenny Dalglish. During the mid-season in Russia, Wolfsburg and Juventus were interested in Honda but the player said he wanted to move to Spain and the 25M euro asking price put them off. Recent enquiries for the player were from Lazio, PSG, Sevilla and Palermo but given the player had been out injured much of the time since September and CSKA progressing in the Champions League the only viable option was eventually Lazio and they could not free up a non-EU quota slot and broker a deal. Thoughts about a move to Arsenal come up occasionally but I fear the chances of it happening have gone. The summer may see Palermo rekindle their interest and may still see interest from Lazio.}

if we bought gaston ramires,yann m'villa,roberto soldado and ibraham affely we would have a squad capable of acheiving champions league football regulary.get shot of downing,maxi,kuyt,aquillani,cole,pacheco,aurelio,spearing and johnson.the ins would cost about 60 million and we would get about 30 to 40 million for the outs.this is quite acheivable and would greatly improve the squad.we should then promote the likes of suso,sterling,coady,morgan,texeira....etc....to the first team squad.i hate to say this also but our beloved stevie dosen't look half the player he was.his pace has deserted him and his shooting has been terrible.maybe now is the time to ease himself and carragher out of the team.they have been truly imense servants to l.f.c and will go down in our clubs great history as legends,but i just feel we need to freshen things up with youth and new signings.the outs that i listed contribute nothing to our team and we would b quite better off without them.so my team for next year would be
reina
kelly skrtel agger enrique

lucas m'villa
ramires suarez affeley
soldado

subs;doni adam coates coady suso shelvy carroll bellamy gerrard shelvy flanagan henderson texeira morgan robinson
quite an impressive squad and healthy back up options all for a net spend of 25 to 30 million REDMICK

Those players for 60 million, your a f**king dreamer

Lucas in front of gerrard? Get back to champ man

How could you even consider saying that about gerrard, you're deluded, gerrard is still our best midfielder, he's still got that range of passing that poses problems to the oposing team , he's still verstatile; he can play anywhere across the midfield, you're just dumb

Impressive if your a mid table team looking to improve.

LOL Afellay, really? Ever actually seen him play? He's not what we need and he's been injured for the whole season just no

Why would soldado join a mid table prem team

This is dreamworld stuff, plus M'Vila and Lucas are too similar. We wouldn't play both in the same side. We are not looking to strengthen central midfield, only backups maybe.

Suarez is clinical finisher.... 14 goals 11 in 36 games .... and if it hadt been for the post or some world class goals keeping... he would have made a hole lot more... carrol is good... but he is not the perfect match up partner for suarez... get huntelar.... :)

03 Mar 2012 16:38:55
Eds,
if we finish 6th or 7th do you see a real top goalscorer wanting to join or do you think it'll be more of a luuk de jong kind of player? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what you mean by "real top goalscorer".}

A real top goalscorer is the likes of.. RVP, Cavani, Higuian, fowler, drogba and torres in his hay day!!... do i need to say any more? we need someone that will put the ball in the net!! {Ed002's Note - I would think Luuk De Jong more likely then.}

Ed 002 opitimises pessimism, he is mundanity personified. Anything can happen in football so don't even bother asking these questions...because you will get a "realistic" response based on agents conjecture and club talk that really amounts to little at the end of the day. {Ed002's Note - You must find it upsetting when I keep being right. Glifnard.}

Woohoo return of the Gilfnard!! Of all the things I've learnt from this site that word tops it!

PDUK

I wouldn't describe ed2's response as pessimistic, it'd be much more annoying if the eds wandered around vomiting sunshine with their posts and telling everyone we might resign Torres and finally get Aguero.

Whole-heartedly agree with the OP. Suarez is a fantastic SS, but he's not a finisher. Carroll still needs more time imo. Who else is there? We NEED a finisher.

4th 0r 7th Bent will be signing

Liverpool need to sign rvp from arsenal with him and Suarez up front we will bank the goals in Liverpool played well today but can't score the goals teams need to worry about Liverpool next season

When on earth would rvp leave arsenal to join liverpool

I love how Liverpool fans all seem to think we're still a bigger club than everybody else when we're doing as poorly as we have been. As far as results this seaon are concerned we're a smaller club than Newcastle. Until we get the CL we can't even think about players like Van Persie, besides it's unlikely he'd want to leave Arsenal for anywhere in the UK.

I really dont think Luuk de Jong is the real top goalscorer we need- There is only one player i would like to see wearing that Red shirt next season and that is Soldado.

03 Mar 2012 16:15:49
Ed, Eriksen, Marin and De Jong, all coming in summer. What do you think? {Ed002's Note - Much will depend on CL football being obtained for Eriksen and Marin. There has to be a good chance of De Jong.}

So that's a no then !! No decent players joining . No champs league !! Thursday night channel 5 !!

Much love

We will not be in the CL!!

Regardless of champions league or not, erikson & marin will not be joining! Painful as it seems there are now more attractive clubs to foreign imports even here in blighty!!

Why do all eds always say depends on top 4 finish do u know what ever player is going to do we need a striker to score goals and maybe we could win the league next season. {Ed002's Note - Not having Champions League football makes it difficult to attract players - that is the simple fact of teh matter.}

I was reading an article about Luuk de Jong in a Dutch magazine today and he does see his future in England. He is keen to get on and goes for extra training. He says that he has the right mentality because both his parents were International Volleyballers. He also has a very strong bond with his brother Siem (Ajax) so it might be a good idea to try and sign the two of them.

Lads lets be honest about this season at home we have been mid-season at best 8 draws is not a challenging team. Obviously we need a goal scorer and a right winger. Look at how many chances we have created and wasted this season, probably the most in world football. What we need to do during the summer is blatant, buy somebody to put away a good majority of those chances. Hopefully now Luis Suarez is showing his desire to play for the shirt that the owners decide that he is too valuable to let go this summer. I hope Glen Johnson stays but I doubt he will as his wages are astronomical for a defender at our club also if he moved to right wing then that could financially work in our favour as it saves us buying somebody who needs time to settle in.

Out:
David Amoo - out of contract
Fabio Aurelio - out of contract
Alberto Aquilani - 5 million
Joe Cole - 3 million
Stephen Darby - release
Doni, release
Nathan Eccleston - nominal fee
Brad Jones - release
Dani Pacheco - nominal fee
Christian Poulson - release
Maxi Rodriguez - 3 million

Scouse_Pride

Add kenny there too.

Could'nt agree more. We need someone like Rvp who can score without hardly touching the ball. JUST A GOALSCORER TO PUT THE BALL IN THE ONION BAG!! IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR? I think Suarez is quality, and u can see why we bought him to play 'alongside' Torres. I think any quality poacher will get bags of goals alongside Suarez. Charlie Adam just doesnt do it for me. Too slow for our quick football. Striker,right winger and attacking mid this summer please Mr Henry. {Ed002's Note -

Maxi is out of contract too

I still think Johnson to right wing is a good shout. Got to be worth a try at least.

From what I have seen of Amoo, I believe the lad is quality, surely we must keep lads like this for another year or two to see if they development mentally and physically as they already show evidence of the technical requirements. They surely do not break the bank and are worth the punt. We have Sterling, Silva, Suso, Morgan, Ngoo, Coady who have all shown extreme promise. If we clearly can't make 4th, lets give them a go like Kenny did with Flanaghan and Robinson last year. Use them when you can Kenny to see what they are made of.

ConnorsLFC {Ed002's Note - Amoo is nearly 21 and I suspect any chance of a career at Liverpool has passed him by.}

Today shows how poor in front of goal we are. So many chances and corners and we lost. We need to bring in a proven striker and a right winger at a minimum, and then get the broom out and have a clear out. Possibly a central defender as well, depending on Coates and how he turns out.

In the short term playing Johnson on the right wing would be a great move and then play Kelly as right back.

Kenny and Steve Clark know their stuff it's the players that aren't producing it on the pitch.

I would give Carroll another full season as well. Henderson too.

At the end of the day suarez is are striker who should have scored alot more goals than he has yes hes got trickery but hes also got a goal ratio proberly the same as dioufs!

We need a 24ft wide x 8ft tall keeper then we should stop leaking goals

03 Mar 2012 14:44:07
120mins in the cup final. 90mins for some on international duty and our first sub comes on with 8 minutes to go. WTF?

Trishan

Old school tactics!

I think, we played way better than Arsnal today. again the luck was very harsh on us. Unfortunately the race for 4th is over now for us. Most likely either of Chelsea or Arsenal. hope, we'd get back to CL soon. We must take the positives and move on. YNWA

Daglish pure useless

We were controlling the game, but thought we should have tried something different earlier! What would have been worse, lose the game, we did that anyway! Even RVP thought Arsenal didn't deserve it and what does that say?

Keith

Liverpool were brilliant today get behind the side stop being so fickle.

mighty reds

Mighty reds,

we were better than Arsenal but we were far from brilliant .. I think you need to stop being a sheep and repeat this get behind the team nonesense .. because we all behind our team, but the difference is that we want it to win and challenge ..
Please stop this fickle rubbish.
Roy

The only chance we have is Arsenal losing two games on the bounce. It is still possible though I rate our chances for 4th at only 20% and that also taking into consideration how poof Arsenal and Chelsea have been. I will say this though, i think that game Liverpool Vs Chelsea will have alot of bearing in terms if who ends up 4th, but for now, we need a miracle.

Btw, i know he has been rubbish as manager but i feel that AVB is having the same problem at Chelsea that Torres is having. They just arent suited to Chelsea's style of play. Porto play soccer pretty much like Liverpool i.e. pass and move philosophy and are counter attacking. I feel if we do get Kennh off and say AVB is sackes by Chelsea, he is worth a try. He was linked with us before chelsea got him...

Always like AVB and at liverpool less ego's would be there, that being said i stand by KK and see where we stand. he built a base for the club for us to work with again. NO MOURINHO THO, not like hes an option anyways

We were far superior to Arsenal, far play to the gooners as historically they have played some beautiful footy but today we saw majestic movement from LFC, pass and go with the will/fight to win back balls. Unless you want f'in Gandolf to whip out the auld "wizards sleeve" and turn us into Barca after 1 year I'd suggest you lot look how far we've come, actually visit anfield and look at the NEW cup and then give me a "reach around" to apologise profusely.....knobs

Allseeingaaiiii

Get off your soapbox mate and try to be realistic. Liverpool played better than Arsenal buoyed by the fact that they won the Carling cup. However the game revolves around who scores most goals. We don't have an out-and-out goalscorer in our squad - all the teams above us do that is why we are where we are in the league.

The movement of our forward line has been anything but "majestic" at any time this season but that can be attributed to the settling in of some many new buys. However there is another glaringly obvious fact as well in that we have players in the first team who are good enough to wear the jersey. Until they have been removed and replaced with genuine quality we will continue to look good outside the final third of the pitch and continue to struggle to score goals inside it.

03 Mar 2012 14:43:48
Well, if that ain't proof that carragher is finished, asleep for both van persie's goal's, but, he's been a great player for us.

03 Mar 2012 14:42:51
Come Dalglish. Say it all in your press conference. The referees were bad. They were too good. We were unlucky. Fact is, 25 shots and we didn't score. 3 shots and they score 2. The own goal came from a cross.

Say we don't need a striker. I love Liverpool and everything, but for our sake get a finisher. In the end, Opta Stats will show we should have won. But who did?

PITSILFC

Dont ya think Kenny knows we need a goal scorer.
p.s the transfer windows closed,just in case ya dint know.

Yes but if he knows why did he not act in January, his words where the squad is strong enough

The worrying thing is Comolli saying there won't be much transfer activity in the summer

Could not have said it better myself.

It's not just an out-and-out goalscorer that we need but a creative spark to link the midfield and forward line better, we can't expect Suarez to do it on his own. A penalty taker would be nice too though.

Perhaps Comolli said that there would not be much activity because the deals are already in place. Not saying that is definitely the case but it might be a possibility.

It's also interesting that all the nay-sayers who said RVP was injury prone and not good enough for LFC are all very quiet now.

Liverpool heavily scouting Lavezzi, Mertens, Martinez, Hoilett, Texeira and De Jong.

RM

Man teams scouting "Lavezzi, Mertens, Martinez, Hoilett, Texeira and De Jong" but where will they end up?

I bet we don't get any of them

Perhaps, but who are liverpool lightly scouting thats what I want to know...

03 Mar 2012 11:45:33
Any chance of Cristian Tello?

Ed, any chance you can create a football manager page? Fed up of dreamers posting theirs on the rumours page! If it were a library most would come under the ' fantasy' section! {Ed002's Note - That is what the Teams page is for. None of this should have been posted on the Rumours page.}

Dude, whoever did this, this is the EXACT team I think we should get in summer. Great minds think alike!

We won't be getting Eriksen, not without champs league footy anyway. I'd imagine the likes of Hoilett, Sinclair or Matt Phillips are more realistic.
Rest of the team looks pretty much spot on though.

Gerrard and Johnson to be fit for Sunderland

03 Mar 2012 09:58:25
All we need to sign this summer is Junior Hoilett,Gaston Ramirez and Luke De Jong.And then off load Maxi,Kuyt and Fabio Aurelio[from the first team].To me this would be a good summer.

Matt Philips and Jordan Rhodes will be signed and then it's any one's guess.
kidmillions

Offloading Kuyt will be a big mistake, he's been one of our best players this season

Eds, what are the chances of hoilett & rhodes going to spurs? Went on the search function and at one point or other an ed had said spurs were favourites? Is this still the case? {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any interest from Liverpool in Hoilett at this time. Bolton, Spurs, Newcastle, Stoke, Arsenal and possibly Aston Villa and QPR have been interested - plus a couple of clubs from Germany, including Bayern Munich. I understand that Roma may press to have Hoilett sign a pre-contract agreement with them before Easter - which may spark further interest from Germany. The English sides are very much at a disadvantage in the chase for Hoilett now as he is in to the last six months of his contract and he can talk to interested parties from outside of England. Blackburn will offer him a new deal but I doubt he will be interested. As for Rhodes, I don't know of any interest from Liverpool or anything confirmed in respect of Spurs - but Newcastle and West Ham are certainly interested in him.}

And to me this would be a very poor summer. we will not be any better with these 3 players

03 Mar 2012 09:37:43
What are chances of signing Brek Shea? {Ed001's Note - none, he is awful.}

commolli never said we wont spend big. just not many additions to the squad. as we have built the base and are moving forward. good signs have showed over this season. we added a big amount over the last few windows and another 4 or 5 would disrupt the team. so one or two in the summer and maybe one in january. read the report 3 or 4 times and he never said no big players will be bought just that we have the money. a couple of players will be bought. and to remember our youth is one of the best and most promising compared to barca's. even pep G agreed with that. shame we will not play them in next gen
