Just seen Skrtel being messed about with contract ed and he's refused it. Us this true and do you think it be resolved?

Believable3 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - being messed about or just not agreed a deal? He has turned the offer down, now it is up to the two parties to either agree something else or figure out some other solution. It is very rare deals are done immediately, just have to hope no one starts a public airing of the details this time. The club would like him to have a more incentive based contract this time.}

03 Jun 2015 23:46:13
Can you see him leaving the club Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I really wouldn't be surprised if he left, it wouldn't be the first time he has held the club to ransom over a contract, but this time we have 40 other centrebacks now, most better than him, to cover if he leaves. I just don't see where else he could go, he is on huge wages for a centre back and he is not very good. Mind if David Luiz can fetch 50m.....

Seriously though, I think he will have to accept our terms as there are not exactly a queue of big clubs waiting to try and pick him up now.}

04 Jun 2015 00:05:36
Thanks for that Ed!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

04 Jun 2015 01:46:56
In all seriousness Ed I agree Skrtel is not a great defender but I see it as he is the best of a bad bunch? For me I don't see any of our centre backs as being as reliable as him Sakho looks like he's going to fall over every time he recieves the ball, Toure looks like he's tredding water when he runs and Lovren makes mistake after mistake. I'm not including Can in this equation as I believe he will be a midfield player next season so if no Skrtel who would be your centre back pair or even trio depending on system?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Lovren makes mistake after mistake? He got off to a bad start, but he was mostly playing with Skrtel, impossible to play alongside him. Sakho is twice the player, not sure what on earth you are talking about there, just sounds like you have never actually seen him play. Toure is much quicker than Skrtel so again that is just nonsense. Any of them are better than Skrtel.}

04 Jun 2015 03:29:31
Hope someone comes and frees us from this severely poor defender.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 04:54:05
Woudnt be disappointed in the slightest if he was to leave. But as he seems to be the key and rock of BR's defence, I expect he will sign another high priced contract to see out his career with us. Unfortunately.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 07:51:21
Ah don't be too harsh. I like Skerts, even though he loses his marbles too often and couldn't communicate his way out of a paper bag. I just think it's the right time for him to go and be replaced. We need a different 1st choice CB to play with Sakho, somebody like Sané would fit, but I only say that because all the other 'links' so far have been with left-footed CBs, which is weird. Literally the last thing we need is a left-footed CB. Oh or a creative midfielder. Ahem, Kova.

(btw the OP's comment about Sakho is a litmus test for ignorance of football)

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 08:23:05
Ok ok I'll take the Sakho one on board as of the three mentioned he is my favourite purely because in the World Cup he looked very good alongside varane but you have to admit he looks awkward at times? I'm not having the other two though there is no way Toure or Lovren should be first choice centre backs for Liverpool. This is a position I feel we still are not strong enough even though we have an abundance of players in this position. Ed how has Ilori's loan spell with Bordeaux gone I know he's had regular game time but how has he performed and is he likely to get a chance with us this year?

(btw redkev it's easy to jump on the band wagon! I'm sure the ed's think so much more of you now you've made a sarky comment)

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 11:24:23
Sorry what bandwagon? There's a bandwagon now? I just think Skrtel is incapable of leading and marshaling a back 4, which is kind of important for a 1st choice CB and replacing him with somebody who can would be good for us.

I doubt the Eds think much of me at all or often, except maybe that I annoy them from time to time. But what sarky comment? The litmus test thing? That's not sarcasm. Saying Sakho 'looks awkward' is irrelevant and perhaps a little offensive, stop looking at his legs and watch what the ball does when he tackles or passes.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 14:05:52
Exactly Kev, Sahko looks akward (whatever the heck that means) YET is the France captain for for Didier Deschamps who knows a solid CB when he sees one because he played with Blanc and Desailly on the French team for over a decade. He is a beast of a player in terms of ability and his passing ability from the back is something Skertl can only dream of and his akwardness as you put it, is just a cop out to slate a player you don`t rate. Skrtel is the worst CB we have. No pace, no positioning, no leadership and gets bullied all the time. If you wanna defend deep in your box then he`s your guy. If not, he is aweful. The fact that he needs to be babysat by the other CB`s is the reason we switched to a back 3 is Lovren had a bad start but put him in with anybody BUT Skrtel with a good DM in front of him like he had at Southampton and see how good he can be because afterall, we bought him from them. Skrtel is capable of making any CB in world aweful needs to go.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 15:53:17
The band wagon I was referring to was Ed suggested I must never have watched Sakho play if I think he looks a little unorthodox at times and at the end of your post you needlessly suggested in brackets that it was down to my football negligence and expect me not to respond?

We can go on all day but I genuinely have better things to do than argue via a football rumours page.

The point I have been trying to make from the start and this is just my opinion is that Skrtel has not been the cause of all of our defensive problems numerous managers before brendon selected him over others so he must have something about him and to suggest that he is the worst we have is just incorrect.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 19:16:08
I must have been watching some different centre backs play this year as well because Skrtel has been much more consistent than Sakho, Lovren and Toure by a long way! Skrtel has been solid in the tackle and good in the air and he has cut out a lot of the nonsense in the box this year that should have resulted in a number of penalties last year. I totally agree that he has his limitations but the others have been appalling and that is why THEY HAVE been in and out of the side.
Sakho is good in the air and a strong tackler who would do well in most sides playing a standard back four where the full backs don't venture way up the pitch. The problem lies in the fact that Liverpool are trying to play out from the back and other teams are targeting him as a weak link when the ball is at his feet (look at Charlie Adams goal at Stoke as an example!) his stats look good but he panics on the ball and he absolutely blasts the ball at his teammates.
Lovren is trying to be too dominant and constantly puts himself out of position by going for headers that are not his to win! They are in the Defensive Midfielders zone. He is also a couple of yards off the pace and so he has misjudged too many tackles.
Toure used to be a super player but in the last couple of years at Man City he piled on too much weight and lost that extra pace that he used to possess. If you watch him play closely he is panicking when he is in possession and he keeps giving the ball away and then telling everyone to calm down and pretending to be the vastly experienced pro (even though his actions are constantly contradicting that).
I don't mind if Skrtel goes as long as he is replaced with a strong (right footed CB) who can lead the line. As far as the other three go I think Liverpool would be much better off without the lot of them!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - shows you aren't watching as the only time Sakho wasn't playing was when he was injured.....}

04 Jun 2015 19:36:04
Didn't Sakho Storm out of the ground back in September when he was dropped from the game v's Everton?
He has been targeted in numerous recent games as a weak link (when he has the ball at his feet) and if you have watched the same games that I have you cannot argue with that.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no, he has been targeted because the players in front of him did not offer themselves for a pass so he ended up sorting it himself. Making marauding runs or doing tricks to create time. If you had watched him, you would have seen how he was the only centre back worth having last season.}

04 Jun 2015 20:00:49
Ed - I usually agree with your views with regards to players but to blame basically the rest of the players in front of Sakho for his poor passing is nonsense. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one then as our opinions contradict each other's.
Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - what poor passing? He got targeted because he had no pass on so hung on to the ball, nothing to do with his passing. You can disagree all you want, but I have that from the mouth of an opposing manager who said that was why Sakho was targeted by his team. He knew no one was offering him a pass, so he had his players hound him down. To not blame those in front of him just shows a lack of understanding of the game, you can't pass if everyone is blocked by opponents and not bothering to make an angle.}

05 Jun 2015 12:04:50
Sakho certainly wasn't helped by Moreno anyway, not only failing to cover the wide space well enough but also failing to find spaces to receive the ball. Same thing happened to Lovren but Sakho dealt with it better while Lovren bottled it.

@Somerset Red: I agree Skrtel hasn't been the cause of 'all' our defensive problems, but he has been a factor of them. I like the guy but he isn't about to improve anytime soon. His deficiencies have been stated repeatedly and it's better not to just throw 3 years of sky-high wages at him. If we are to play a back 4, Sakho needs a different partner.

good evening ed002. i know you don't talk finances but could you tell us is kovacic financialy out of our reac or is he affordable. thanks in advace

Believable6 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Affordable but screwing around doesn't help.}

03 Jun 2015 22:43:13
sounds familiar ffs. When will we ever learn Ed??!!

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jun 2015 23:00:17
Eds. Do you think we should just cough up - is it good business at the asking price or would the club be wise to negotiate further? Or may they be accused over spending on a player again?

Is he what the club needs - would a more robust player be a better signing - like Konoplyanka? Isn't he available on a free anyway?

Does the club really even need to recruit in this area (as a priority)?

Strikers seem a more obvious requirement?

Where would the eds suggest we really need to be looking to strengthen? And with whom in an ideal world?

Many thanks in advance for sharing your views.

Insight always appreciated.

I think he looks like he will be quality, unsure if really needed with Hendo, Can and Milner. I'd like to see a place for Lucas and oppertunity for Rossiter.

Unlike myself, Rodgers is a massive fan of Allen, so you'll have to factor in a place for the outstanding Welsh Xavi.

Milner has agreed personal terms with LFC and will join in the summer.

Spanish Newspaper AS reporting that we're interested in Denis Cheryshev at €15-20m if Sterling is sold.

Ed002 has been mentioning this guy for months. How does she do it?

Believable2 Unbelievable3

03 Jun 2015 23:13:57
She's his agent.

Ed1 I see your on now, have we bid €21m for kovavcic today??

Thanks

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - no idea sorry. Does seem like the kind of player Brendan goes for like but I don't know if we have bid. We had no bids in for anyone yesterday.}

03 Jun 2015 19:22:48
What do you think of him Ed001? Would he be a good buy?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - not really, bit pointless, he is not what we need. Another lightweight midfielder with little bite to him from what I have seen.}

03 Jun 2015 19:30:50
It's probably another agent using Liverpool to gauge interest from other clubs.

Agree2 Disagree0

03 Jun 2015 20:40:59
It only makes sense in a couple of scenarios,

1/ sterling leaves coutinho operates on the left and kovacic in the centre

2/ coutinho leaves and he takes his position

3/ Henderson leaves and he takes his position!

4/ unsure ? Looks an alright player, exactly what we go for but why ? We don't need him at the moment!

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jun 2015 21:09:57
I agree with you maxi96! He could be useful in terms of rotating our midfield if we have for example a Europa league game in Russia 3 days before and Coutinho needs a rest, we can just bring him in to the team! Simples!

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jun 2015 21:24:34
Sterling and Coutinho played almost every game. I'd say he's much needed. Reminds me of quicker Veratti. Good passer of the ball, great control, very creative, quick. Would be a massive upgrade om Allen.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jun 2015 21:39:53
Yeah daredman but aymt the prices being quoted, I mean can he really spend 10/15/20 million for rotation when you could as easily have 2 teams already now.

Sturridge, sterling, coutinho, ibe, hendo, Allen

Origi, markovic, lallana, ibe/sterling (60/30) Lucas, can

And that'd stupid rotation, a lot of players can do two in a week (hendo for example)

Kovacic make sense if sterling goes and he has Marko, ibe, coutinho, lallana rotating on the wings and kovacic through the middle or alongside hendo, but were does that leave can, Lucas etc

I think if he comes sterling will go, just dint see the two being in the sane team come September 1st.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jun 2015 20:52:42
ed he is not that lightweight. he is one of the best young players in world and seems lost at inter because of situation they are in. he is a real classy midfielder. we don have midfielder like him who can carry the ball. if allen is sold and kovacic bought that is best buisness.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - we have plenty who can carry the ball, they are just not allowed to in the system we play. Yes he is a very good young player, but we have lots of them already, so it is a silly buy. We need to strengthen where we are weakest first, not where we are strongest.}

03 Jun 2015 22:38:24
Well maxi96, you never know how he could turn out. Could be another Coutinho you just never know! But the thing with this lad is he has bags of potential and one day he would be a vital member of our team(providing we don't ruin this lads career). I just don't know what to think about he is a replacement for Sterling or not. I don't think he is though.
It's key to keep players fresh so rotating the squad is key to success this season!
Can could well be played in defense again unfortunately which I think would stunt his growth as a player massively!

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jun 2015 22:50:13
Agree with Ed - don't know why we aren't fixing the FB and Striker issues first - would rather have another 21mln in the pocket to potentially pay up if something special comes up than be constrained because we bought another midfielder we can't use.only exception would be if they already have a buyer for Allen lined up so doesn't cost much money to upgrade.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jun 2015 22:53:03
Ed001 on the occasions (not many) I've seen him he has looked really good and a better option than Pjanic. I would prefer us to get a top holding midfielder with the money we would spend on him however unless Emre Can and Lucas play that position next season

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I like him as a player too, but he is not what we need, neither is Pjanic.}

04 Jun 2015 00:06:19
The players quality isn't in question from me!!

It's just not what is needed at this time, if Allen went then yes potentially but Brendan stays then I think Allen does asWell.

But anything over 10 mil with out budget has to have a plan in the first team, if we want rotation then Brannigan is there for that! Both dame age, both good players and one is free and already signed!

But if he is for the first team then super! If there's a plan for someone to leave. Even bette!

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 14:14:51
BR collects midfeilders like a lady collects shoes. Kovacic might be a good player BUT he is NOT needed unless some players leave. We have bigger fish to fry yet he is making the same mistakes that almost got him the sack by buying players we don`t need instead of strengthening where we are weakest. FSG have messed up by keeping him because he won`t change and we are seeing that in the TW already.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jun 2015 17:33:28
Hey Eds. I'm guessing our transfer budget will be a modest one this summer but there are one or two freebies available that would add quality in strength and depth.
Firstly Milner, who seems to be already on the verge of joining.
Micah Richards, who in my opinion has the strength, youth and experience to fill that right sided defensive role.
Yehven Konoplyanka, who we almost signed not so long ago, again, experienced and undoubtedly talented.
If we brought these three in we could use all the money available for a proven striker and a new keeper.
Do you see any of this happening or do you expect a dissapointing transfer window this summer.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Cheers.
Dodge.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - if we brought in Micah 'last on first off the training ground attitude on legs though I am actually not half the player I think I am' Richards, then it would be an extremely disappointing transfer window! Luckily we would not pay the wages the greedy get asks for anyway.}

03 Jun 2015 18:01:49
Ok, so you're not a MR fan I guess. What about the other names?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they would not improve the team much but I expect Ings and Milner to sign, not Konoplyanka though.}

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no his missus is a secret agent too though, she hides behind a brunette wig at all times, only a very few have seen her unmasked as the blonde she really is.}

04 Jun 2015 09:23:48
Haha, I'm guessing there are also Ed003-006 hiding around here somewhere too?
Maybe I should expand into other rumour pages besides the Liverpool one to investigate

Hi eds,
If lucas were to be sold this summer, any possibility of Alex Song? I assume after allowing him out on loan last season that barca are willing to sell, i think he would be a very suitable replacement

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - no he would be an awful replacement anyway, he would have the same issues as Gerrard did.}

03 Jun 2015 15:52:19
Hello ed 02 ! Hope you are fine !!! Is there any improved bid by Liverpool for mateo kovacic as reported in different media's ?

Believable4 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Please see previous answers. Liverpool has not made an acceptable offer at this time. Inter are trying to get Arsenal to make an offer.}

03 Jun 2015 16:15:45
Hi, I am new to this site but have been reading for a while now. Can I ask why they are waiting for Arsenal to make a bid? Looks a very good player and would like to see him and Coutinho just behind the striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They want more money. He has not been playing particularly well and doesn't score enough goals for their liking. They know English clubs will pay over the odds and are looking to milk it.}

Ed002, you've mentioned previously Mitrovic as a player that Liverpool should look at.

Is there any interest in him from us or anyone else in the prem?

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - here is interest in Anderlecht's Aleksandar Mitrović from Borussia Monchengladbach, Manchester United, Swansea, Dortmund, Newcastle and Eintracht Frankfurt. The interest of Leicester and Bayern Munich seems to have gone, but Arsenal may just look again at the player - depending on which direction they wish to go given their first choice as opted to moved elsewhere. The interest from Manchester United is recent. Newcastle are likely not an option - perhaps it will become clear when the managerial role is resolved. Probably now of reach of Swansea and Frankfurt.}

03 Jun 2015 19:32:01
Would he be a player that we would potentially look at as an option Ed?
Sorry for the vague question

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is what I have said.}

03 Jun 2015 14:24:54
Ed2 sky italia reporting we have lodged a new bid for mateo kovavcic €21m, is this correct or rubbish?? Or is the only bid we made the €10m silly joke one ??

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - It would not be enough. Inter are still trying to get an offer from Arsenal. They have spoken with Barcelona but are not attracted to their convoluted offer.}

03 Jun 2015 16:07:28
Thanks ed2 do you think Liverpool may make a third bid including Lucas??

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Why complicate it? Lucas was ready to go in January and the club persuaded him to stay - they can hardly dump him now, although they have dealt poorly with such matters recently (e.g. Brad Jones). Inter won't be interest in Liverpool's cast offs in any case.}

03 Jun 2015 17:22:31
Ed2 they want Lucas still so that's why I mentioned that! So to be clear did we bid €21m for him or not ??

Thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Entirely unrelated.}

03 Jun 2015 14:01:06
eds, I'm reading on sky sports that an Italian paper have said we have upped our bid for kovacic to £15+m, you heard anything??

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Even though he has very recently extended his contract, Inter are willing to sell Kovacic for the right price and have spoken with Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona and Hertha Berlin about the player. Nikky Vuksan has however said he is aware that Inter and Barcelona have had discussions about some "issues" that would involve Kovacic. To explain, Barcelona are plotting a deal that will see Alex Song and/or Pedro Rodrigues move to Inter on loan until January and then will be part of a permanent deal for Kovacic. I am not going to go in to too much detail but Piero Ausilio, Inter's Sporting Director, told a Spanish journalist that Liverpool had made a "funny little joke" with a €10M offer. They need to more than double for there to be a chance. In the interim, as they have been unable to agree a deal, Inter who need to raise funds and sell a midfield player, have made it known that they will look to keep Kovacic if they cannot get the price they want and will make Hernanes available instead - although interest is think on the ground. The sale of one or more of these players should fund the replacements Inter are looking at.}

03 Jun 2015 11:53:53
Hi Eds,

Has there been any interest from Liverpool in Ben Yedder of Toulouse? He's good on the ball having come through playing futsal and seems to have a decent goal scoring record.

Also has Liverpool shown a recent interest in Luke Garbutt?

Anything new on Cheryshev ed? I would think he is seen as a Sterling replacement so depends on what happens there?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - No. Why not search first.}

03 Jun 2015 08:59:08
Is there any real update on Sterling yet eds?
Are his options of leaving becoming more limited?
Is he happy with and will stick with Ward?

Are liverpool interested in keeping him now after what's happened with his and his agents outbursts? Would they also rather part ways, no longer just Sterling that's wants a move to happen?

What's your opinion on how this will end, even if it's not this summer

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - there is nothing new yet.}

03 Jun 2015 14:23:12
Thanks.

So how do you see this playing out ED? Gone for sure, no way back? LFC not interested themselves due to agents handle?
Staying, as nowhere to go if as it seems at this moment? Ward not an issue will do all they can etc

You must have some thoughts? Would you keep or had enough of him?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I expect him to go now. Personally I would keep him if he changed agent.}

Due to go on duty with the Under 21s next week, until the end of the month, so is it that we have to wait until July 1st ???

{Ed001's Note - a deal was sorted with Ings for the January window, but Burnley decided to hold on to him instead. It is just him looking at the other offers to make a decision now.}

Demarai Gray has been mentioned to me Eds, by a guy who knows Henderson up in Formby. Is he good enough at this stage, and if we buy him, would it be as a replacement for Sterling. Never seen the lad play, so know nothing about him.Would appreciate any feedback you have regarding this, as I was hoping any money received for Sterling would be spent wisely, on someone with a bit more experience and proven ability.

{Ed001's Note - lots of potential but nowhere near the finished product yet. Not sure he is good enough to be first choice, but at least he actually has a left foot, which is something that few of our players do. He is only 18, he is not as good as Ibe, for instance, so it would be an odd buy, but there you go.}

Very overrated player. I've seen him play a few times at St. Andrews and don't think he's anything too special. I don't even think he's better than Redmond who left a few years ago for Norwich.

Maybe odd, but would not be the first odd transfer Liverpool have ever sanctioned.
Would prefer others, unless this kid is cheap enough to buy for the future.
