Hi Eds, Fiorentina have officially announced that Neto will not renew his contract with them, do you expect us to make a move for him as you've said there's interest?

Believable5 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - He will look at what offers he has - nothing will have changed.}

03 Jan 2015 15:55:19
Ed

With what you've said about signings and the fact that we have to try and sell to balance the books, why is it we are after Shaqiri, when this is one are were we are already blessed with attacking players? Is there any possible outgoings not been mentioned that could offset him coming in as it certainly looks like we are after him?

Believable1 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware. The only player with potential interest in him is Sterling and I don't see him leaving in January.}

Cheers for reply Ed appreciate it.

Guess we might be overloaded in the attacking area of the field then if we get him. Another bad signing of a player we don't really need.

I'm assuming it's to watch Fleetwood's goalkeeper Chris Maxwell.

Did we not have a young lad on loan at Swindon that was recalled recently? Brad Smith? Maybe Rodgers was there to watch a player that Smith had recommended.

{Ed001's Note - it is likely he will leave. The talent is top class, he is one of the most talented players at the club. The questions are over his physicality, not his talent.}

03 Jan 2015 13:32:16
It will be interesting to see how well he does in the future. If he can cut it at a good club. Personally i don't think he will.

He is top draw. It will be sad if he leaves. Surely the Clubs nutritionist's, dietician's, physical/strength coaches can work with him and build up his strength and physique, or is that to simple?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is not that simple, he is small and not very quick and that can not be changed.}

Liverpool is trying to take the classic route to sign Shaqiri. They started by contacting Bayern Munich, they have an offer of 14 million euro to sign the winger, but have yet to contact the player's agent (who also happens to be his brother). If you remember last summer, Liverpool had already spoken to Shaqiri's agent, so it's possible they are taking this approach because they are confident they can get Shaqiri to come to Anfield.

We're not going to sign Shaqiri, in January or otherwise, unless other players (à la Sterling) are sold. We already have a wealth of options in his position with Markovic, Coutinho, Lallana, Borini etc. The fact that people feel that they're not up to par doesn't mean they're non-existent. Plus the fact that the club can't afford it right now. People need to come out of this fantasy land of "big name" players coming to our rescue and realise that, although some players will no doubt be sold and others brought in, many of the players we currently have are ones who are going to be playing for Liverpool FC. Nobody forced Rodgers to pay £25m for Lallana and £20m for Lovren, but that is what happened.

Agree2 Disagree3

RedHustle, so you mean Markovic, Borini and Shaqiri all play in the same position? Haven't you been following the news of Gerrard's imminent departure which will leave us without any world class player by the end of this season!!

Agree1 Disagree2

They are all attacking players capable of playing and commonly utilised in an attacking midfield/winger position, Sterling and Lallana too. Gerrard leaving is in no way related to this. Although granted, we won't have a world class player in the team.

Agree1 Disagree1

Redhustle, you're forgetting that the transfer committee are unlikely to look at anyone we might actually need!
Not going to go and slag them all off on this one though- sure we need a goalkeeper, defensive midfielder and a back-up for Sturridge who can actually score, whilst the attacking midfield is the one position we are sorted in- because for a player of Shaqiri's talent (regardless of the fact it's nowhere near the amount he believes he has!) it would represent phenomenal value in today's market.

Would Shaqiri be able to play as a striker as well? Could be BR's plan

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He was naturally a winger who has moved to being an attacking midfield player. Bayern Munich took him with a view to him being the long term replacement for Franck Ribery. They have decided he is simply not good enough and far to much grief to keep on. His agent has been tasked with finding him a new club - hence the meetings that went on most of this week with Juventus and Inter. Thought is that Juve are likely to drop the interest they have if they cannot reach agreement very soon.}

Any legs in the Defoe to LFC on loan till the end of the season rumours? Personally I think he'd get us goals. I reckon the player would like the move too and is definitely better than, Borini, Mario and Lambert and would suit our game.

Believable9 Unbelievable12

{Ed001's Note - he was offered and it was rejected, at least initially.}

Luis Muriel! to replace Borini.

What's the situation with Roberto Firmino?

Any chance of a move to LFC?

Must be on the most wanted list.
