Would you say it was a good chance Liverpool buy another with seemingly Skrtel gone and Coates available, will Liverpool finally give into Schalkes demands now Ilori has gone quiet?

Believable33 Unbelievable7

Greg
I reckon if the club are letting Skrtel leave they must be confident of getting in a CB. On Papa front, I really feel Schalke will let him go for around 16M & he is worth that. The only thing LFC can do to get themselves a good deal would be to get a deal based on heavy incentives which are activated if he plays so many games for LFC. Like paying 10-11M + 5M add-ons.

Need two centre backs for sure.

Ed02 in your opinion do you believe Suarez will be sold. All the noise from the club is he will stay. The only thing I can think of is we are waiting for the transfer request and then we'll sell. Is this what's going on? {Ed002's Note - He wants out and the club want the best deal they can get. There is interest from three sides apparently (as I explained this morning) - but only bids from Arsenal. I think he will probably go.}

Believable9 Unbelievable16

The 3 clubs are Arsenal, Real and? {Ed002's Note - I don't know. I speculated earlier that it might be PSG. What we know is that significant effort is being made to get other clubs to show and interest.}

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO he should be sold overseas only

Agree2 Disagree0

Could be Spurs, they will have plenty of money now with Bale going.Personally I hope Real come up with a decent offer, would not like to see him at another UK club and as he said it was the UK press driving him out it would make him look like the worst kind of liar if he did so.

Hey Ed02 do you think that Liverpool will hold out if they don't get wot they want ie 50m + which seems to be wot is coming out and knowing the clubs could you see any them paying that sort of money it's a double question sorry I know you don't like talking money but would like to know if you think the club have the backbone to stick to that or cave in to the player, I know it would just be your opinion many thanks
Ynwa {Ed002's Note - They will, not unreasonably, want to get the best deal that they can. What I suspect they won't do is let this matter distract the club right up until the transfer window closes. There has been a lot of activity these past two weeks to get interest from elsewhere so it seems sensible to conclude that matters are coming to a head sooner rather than later. Money wise, perhaps early to mid 40s would see a solution - particularly if the transfer request is made.}

ED, did we ever have a chance in getting Bernard?

That boy is a beast for his age. {Ed002's Note - He was one of the South American players that Liverpool were scouting earlier in 2012, but that was pre-Rodgers.}

Believable10 Unbelievable2

Better than costa.

Agree3 Disagree0

Very different to Costa but we never had a chance with his agent just after the money.

Hey Eds,

I know there has been numerous questions on this of late but there has been little confirmed from you Eds so I'm going to ask again to see if there's been any update - have we bid for Diego Costa?

Thanks in advance {Ed002's Note - I am aware of interest but have no confirmation of a bid being made.}

Now that skrtel has basically gone, do you think rogers will use Toure at centre back for the season or can you see a move for papadopolous happening? {Ed002's Note - The club need to decide if they wish to bid for Papadopoulos. At the right price a good buy. At the price being asked, you can see why others walked away.}

Believable12 Unbelievable2

Toure, Agger, Kelly CB

Agree0 Disagree1

I don't think Toure will start week in week out, still feel a CB is needed when Skrtel goes Papadopolous would be a great buy if the price is right

Agger, Papa, Toure on the bench
Kelly and Wisdom to cover RB and CB when needed between them

Eds Why are we loaning Skrtel instead of selling him, don't we need the funds to pay for a new defender? also we are looking to sign a LB and a striker and at least 1 midfielder maybe even 2 so how are we going to afford them without selling skrtel and also because its looking less likely that Suarez is leaving any time soon.
Just genuinely confused about this.
Cheers. {Ed002's Note - Subject to the detail being sorted out I suspect that Csonto is behind the loan idea - and to be fair he has to do what is best for his client. There is every chance once the details are known it will be a loan to buy.}

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Sorry Ed,
but don't seem to understand why would a loan option be good for Skrtel according to his agent? {Ed002's Note - It means he has options in one year. The return to Zenit has always been on the cards.}

Agree2 Disagree0

Reina on loan and now Skrtel. I recall how well the Aquilani loan worked for us so forgive me for saying that if loans are good for Pepe and Martin then then they are probably really bad for our team.

Agree1 Disagree1

Anyone else think Skrtel played well in preseason? I did. Has he fallen out with Rodgers?
Saw Agger take a knock right at the end today. If that happens we've Toure and Coates then? As good as Wisom was BR won't play him either?

i have been told that arsenal will submit a bid of 45m and that wil be their final offer
as of now, Liverpool have no interest in sellin suarez to arsenal

Believable35 Unbelievable14

Think Suarez himself needs to make some kind of public statement about his position. He seemed quite vocal with all the reported comments whilst he was at the Conf. Cup, now he's gone all quiet - we need this story over and done with adap.

Agree11 Disagree2

Brendan Rodgers stated today that the going price for Suarez is similar to what Real Madrid have offered for Bale. If no offers similar to that amount come he stays.

Couple of weeks ago BR said 55 mill.
We shall see but I don't think whinging wenger will get him.Hope not anyhow.

@johnnyr1970
If Suarez came out and made a public statement about his desire to leave through a transfer request it would jeopardise the amount we are likely to receive in offers. I personally would have preferred him to go with the typical response "I am a Liverpool player as of now" throughout all his interviews. I just hope we can get it sorted as soon as possible.

Didnt see any sign of Skrtel from the TV pics today at the game. Was he on the bench or has he possibly travelled to Italy to meet with Napoli already? {Ed002's Note - He is effectively gone.}

Believable13 Unbelievable9

Skrtel was on the bench. He gave Gerrard a tap on the shoulder when Gerrard was substituted.

Agree2 Disagree1

Somebody told me he is in London to talk to Napoli. Have you heard anything Eds? {Ed002's Note - I don't know where he is but the discussions between Liverpool, Csonto and Napoli are all but done I understand.}

Agree2 Disagree0

Hello Ed,
I remember reading on an Italian site last week that they have agreed a season long loan for 2M Euros + an option to buy for another 9M Euros. Any truth Ed? {Ed002's Note - You need to get signed up and registered if you want answers.}

He was on the bench.

Agree1 Disagree1

Well if Skrtel is gone, the only interest I have is in his replacement. Papadopolous perhaps?

Is there any Barca movement on Agger? This could be quite disruptive. Alderweireld (or Mica Richards) would be the natural replacement (IMHO) but then we have a defence who will be being introduced to each other 2 minutes before the kick off against Stoke.

Eds, any thoughts or theories?
Thanks in advance. {Ed002's Note - I am of the opinion Barcelona will soon enquire after Agger.}

Eds and reds,
What's the situation with Martin Skrtel, Sebastian Coates, Jay Spearing, Stewart Downing and Oussama Assaidi? Are they leaving or are they staying here? {Ed002's Note - Skrtel will go to Napoli. I expect Assaidi to go back to the Netherlands. Spearing has not had an offer he is interested in and remains available as does Coates. Downing I don't know.}

Is skrtel being sold or loaned to Napoli? And if he is being sold how much do you think we will get for him? {Ed002's Note - IT is likely to be a loan with an option to buy.}

Believable7 Unbelievable4

Im guessing this paves the way for papa then ed? {Ed002's Note - Maybe but Liverpool has not put an offer on the table.}

Agree2 Disagree0

I thought we had a budget of 20 something million so would that be the end of the costa rumours?

Agree0 Disagree1

Why isn't Napoli buying Skrtel up front? Has his dip in form created hesitancy on their front? Rafa knows who he's getting so I don't understand the loan with option to buy. {Ed002's Note - As I have said, it is not finalised yet. There is a chance that Csonto is hedging his bets right now.}

papadopoulas? ilori? alderweireld? {Ed002's Note - I don't know what will be happening regarding the CBs right now. An offer for Agger will likely arrive soon as well.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Eds as you said skrtyl might be of to napoli it means there is another defender lined up. {Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware right now but I am sure efforts are being made.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed as its likely can you see Liverpool going for popo? Or in your opinion do you think we will lose interest because of the price and injury risk? {Ed002's Note - Popo sounds like a clown's name. At the right price Papadopoulos would be a good buy.}

Hi Ed do you know if this is a loan deal or a permenant deal?

Crooky {Ed002's Note - I suspect it will end up as a loan with an option to buy.}

Believable8 Unbelievable9

Spurs or Chelsea then Ed? {Ed002's Note - There has been a discussion about him with Chelsea.}

Hi Eds. Finally registered to your beautiful site! Quickie - I tried the search but found nothing re: confirming whether we actually BID for Melgarejo, and if so whether it was accepted. Do you know if the former or both are confirmed, or are we as clueless about a new LB as we have been since May? Digne became Shaw became Siqueira become Cissokho became Melgarejo! Thanks for everything so far this summer. {Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any bid to buy Melgarejo but Liverpool are looking to take him on loan. However, before anything can be finalised, the club must try and seek clarification over a work permit.}

Anyone know what's happened with this supposed Costa bid? It's all gone very quite.

Believable4 Unbelievable17

I think there is interest but as usual the media is blowing this out of proportion, say the bid is true and he is supposed to be a replacement for Suarez do you guys think that he is on the same level as Suarez? that's the only thing that I am interested in, if he is then Suarez can go to mars for all I care. He scores the goals but that comes at a price which is harming the reputation and image of the club.

Hi Ed's or red's
Have any of you seen the Botafogo defender Doria play? Apparently he is a brilliant ball palying centre half, and is great in the tackle, and only 18! Sounds like he would fit in, but I guess there is no interest? I know Chelsea are. {Ed002's Note - Doria has been subject to unconfirmed interest of Spurs and PSV, certain interest of Chelsea, Cruzeiro and Fluminense together with his agent trying to get a move to either Porto or Benfica.}

Hi Eds,

Just wondering what difference it makes if Luis Suarez hands in a transfer request. How does it force a move as papers have been reporting? Great work on the site.

IrishJ {Ed001's Note - it just means he loses entitlement to his 'loyalty bonus'.}

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Therefore we could accept less as we wouldn't have to give him x amount %

Redan

Agree0 Disagree1

Surely one has to be loyal to get a loyalty bonus! {Ed002's Note - Ed001 put it in quotes as it is the term folks are applying now - but it is unrelated by the strict definition.}

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2013 11:31:13
Ed02, I was listening to the last TBT podcast and they had a guest journalist who was talking about 'loyalty' bonuses. The journalist (sorry can't remember who of the top if my head) said that a friend who was a sports lawyer stated that loyalty bonuses are bot affected by transfer requests, they are simply paid annually at some point in the year. if the player is still at the club they get the bonus. The point he was making is that the transfer request is more symbolic, and helps the club with the PR exercise of losing one of their better players. So you think we are actually discussing two different contractual clauses but referring to them both as loyalty bonus.
Cheers Eds and Reds {Ed002's Note - I do and I have explained this before. You need to separate out anything negotiated between the player and the club in terms of bonuses etc. from the 5% of the transfer fee that the selling club has to give to the player if the player did not request the transfer.}

Learnt from a reliable source that we have not put a bid in for Costa. He is however on a shortlist. and somehow journo has got hold of name and the utter rubbish is now being written in the papers & media.

LFC are waiting to see what happen on the Real front. They are short of a striker. Once Bale is sorted Suarez will go to Real and Ronaldo will go back to Utd unfortunatly. Only as a last resort will they sell to Arsenal or any Prem League team. {Ed002's Note - Don't forget to register.}

Believable12 Unbelievable31

Guesswork it seems - majority of " journo's " make up stories to try and sound as if they are in the know. {Ed002's Note - One of the things that happens John is that a snippet of information gets translated and then picked up by one of the papers/web sites etc. that just wants to get something "breaking" or new out there - that is of course what the fans crave. Once that happens it easily snowballs and sources lost. A few try and seek confirmation before running with a story. Recycling of course happens and perhaps in some quarters stories are completely fabricated. The business has moved on from when there were journalists writing these stories - the move in media and the internet has opened everything up to everyone effectively. And in the real world, access to agents, representatives of players and clubs, etc. means it is tough for anyone to do business behind "closed doors". It still happens where players are relative unknowns or when they are not a "big name" - and that is because nobody cares. They want to know about the names that are high-profile moving - Suarez, Rooney, Cavani, Torres, Kokorin, Bale, Khedira, Falcao etc..}

Agree1 Disagree0

Thanks Mister Ed - there has to be headlines to try and sell more papers - I personally don't think Ronaldo will return to Utd this year, don't think Bale is going to cost anywhere near the amount being quoted, I do however believe we are after Costa - excellent ability with a fantastic will to win. {Ed002's Note - Ah, Bamboo Harvester.}

Agree1 Disagree1

Should bale go to madrid I don't see why they would sell ronaldo, bale could have a go on the right, ronaldo being right footed cutting in from the left, bale being left footed can surely cut in from the right. Why get rid of the second best player in the world?. madrid probably don't need the funds. and depends I guess they could move for suarez as they sold higuain. wish we had gone for him. but glad he chose napoli over arsenal, wenger should have met the asking price, he's cheaper than suarez with no bans. do madrid need suarez is my question if the want to use morata or rodriguez?. I suspect they are still a bit from nbeing regular starters. depends on ancellotti's formations he he really plans on one striker maybe they could do without him, but 4-4-1-1 could be very nice with suarez behind zema, ron, bale on the two wings, then they have a few central defenders to chose, we all love alonso. {Ed002's Note - You need to register man.}

Congratulations Steven Gerrard.
Totally deserved testimonial.
Thanks for the memories.
It was going to take one hell of a player to even come close to matching the affection shown by the fans to Kenny Daglish but you certainly have.
You are sat on the same sofa as Kenny Daglish in terms of legendary status fella!

Fully agree about Stevies status with the fans. Best goal is between 3, Olympiakos was best for technique, West Ham final and Istanbul were best for their meaning and sheer determination.
Best tackle was against Bolo Zenden against Marseille, destroyed him in a clean and fair manner.
Lows, back pass to Henry.
The best leader by example our club has or will ever see. So many times his right foot has saved our hopes from despair, so many driving runs, through balls, crosses. So many times he has roused the crowds.
