So a lot of commentators saying Liverpool need a creative midfielder and a DM in order to improve. At the moment both would be hard to fill as there doesn't look to be many highly rated for either on the market.
Anyone any ideas as who we should look at?
Any of the Ed's know if we are looking to improve in these areas?
I think a DM would help the defence but not sure if Klopp wants to play that way!

{Ed002's Note - The focus will be on the defence and getting someone in to replace anyone leaving.}

With keita arriving and another to replace Couts, the defence is were we need to strengthen.

The priority must be the back 4 - of all the zones on the pitch that is where the main problem lies.

We need two decent central defenders - a ball player and a thug.

And two reliable consistent full backs - one a traditional defensive-minded full-back for one side and the other a forward running raider for the other side.

Sort the back four out and Migs will become more confident and the players in front of it will be more willing to press up the pitch.

Mignolet should be the first one out of the back 5!

Thing is it is more than just the back 5. If you let teams constantly run at your defence, they will score. If you let teams constantly get into positions to cross the ball in, they will score. Plus a lot of goals are coming from set pieces where other players are losing their men. It is a team picture that needs improvement in some areas with the defenders but a player who can break up and disrupt in front of them makes a difference as well. Likewise if players are going to be defending in the box they need to be able to do that. Plus personally I'd give Ward a run of games whilst there is still a chance he might find some form rather than stagnate.

Latest keeper to be linked is keylor navas off real madrid. I have only seen him in a couple of champions league games and being honest wasn't paying him too much attention. Would he be a good addition if we are interested of course?

Wud b completely the wrong keeper worse than bravo he not even 6ft we need a aggressive dominating presence who likes to give rollockings when needs be.

Not to be petty hailstones but apparently Navas is 6’1” so you clearly don’t know what you are talking about.

Haha ok I am wrong apologies but him coming from Spanish league to premiership and too us who teams target for set peices would cause him an us big probs.

Doesnt matter how tall the keeper is to be honest as long as they are agile.

31 Oct 2017 20:22:12
I guess that rules out Jan Oblak too then as he also plays in the Spanish league.

Yeah, our last keeper from Spain who wasn’t tall was awful. Bloody Pepe Reina.

Doesn't matter were they from as long as they have rite attributes aggressive commanding reading danger communicating with defence, decent kicking these are all things needed for a top keeper, navas is a good shot stopper and decent kicker.

AMEN too details locked i hope with regards too ward he gets sum sort of run in team so we can judge an see if he in fact could be everything we need there are a lot of British keepers at minute who are doing great e. g Rob Elliot, Tom heaton, jack butland, Jordan Pickford, Fraser Forster, so why not ward!

Navas is a poor keeper at best, he’s only just over 6ft (1.85m is not 6’1”) and for me, he is too short to be successful in the premier league, given that we struggle on crosses and high balls into the box, the last thing you do is buy a keeper that is easily dominated in those situations and Navas is weak in that area, look at how Bravo has struggled and how poor Pickford is on crosses, we don’t need another keeper who can’t deal with that. If we are bringing a keeper in, bring a top class one like Oblak or don’t bother. We’ve done enough bargain basement shopping in that area for a lifetime.

JC23 that is true to some extent but not totally. Watch someone like James Shea. Very agile keeper but probably about 5'11 tops and he struggles with crosses because of lack of reach and size. League 1 and 2 players are generally smaller these days than the big prem players so he would struggle at prem level. If he was 6'3 or more I reckon Arsenal would have kept hold of him. height does unfortunately make a difference. A tallish keeper 6'2 who is agile can compete but below that they are struggling in a league where the first thing the clubs look for is size and they like to bang in crosses all the time. Plus for Liverpool size in GK is now a must since teams are targetting crosses into the box as a weakness.

I agree with that DetailsLocked. Any keeper under 6’1” is going to struggle unless they have the physique and ability to make up for it. Someone mentioned Pepe Reina, he’s 6’2” which is the minimum for me. Since he was tall enough to compete, also helped that he was quite a physically strong player to go with it and made good decisions almost ever time.

Ed do we still have interest in Ante Coric? Remember us being interested a while ago but he opted to stay put.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Ante Coric of Dinamo Zagreb is destined for an excellent career if he doesn't move too early as he still has much growing up to do - but Newcastle, Chelsea, Benfica, Roma, Porto, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Porto, Benfica, Spurs and Manchester City are very keen - so pretty much everyone and his dog. His club are aware of this interest and the tentative interest of other sides, such as Everton, Udinese, Crystal Palace and West Ham over the past two years. He had some difficulties in 201/16 but they were eased by Ivaylo Petev arriving - although he has now departed. Following an enquiry from Newcastle in January the club offered, and he signed, a new contract. Approaches from Spurs, Benfica and Porto were turned away in the summer. I suspect he will move on next summer.}

{Ed025's Note - very much so KK..

31 Oct 2017 14:50:21
Makes me sick, he knows full well he is having a shocker at the moment, and that will be enough to dent his confidence without this from so called supporters. We need to be behind all our players, all the time, regardless of whether they are in form or not. We should be encouraging them not slagging them off.

The problem is, half these people wouldn't do anything about it. In fact more than half, the majority are cowardly kids hiding behind their screen and keyboard. They don't actually realise the consequences of what they're saying, because they're bubble wrapped in their mothers basement.
