A friend of mine who does have genuine links to the club is still telling me to expect Bertrand as our new left back (has said for many months about the continued interest). He has now said that it is looking likely that Lovren may be near to a medical also. I'm hoping he is right.

Believable26 Unbelievable84

Dont think he's a bad player, but hope its not him, don't think he's top top standard!

Agree3 Disagree4

Please let this just be a rumour a player that just isn't good enough.I would prefer Flanagan at left back as it stands hope BR has a crack a the Swiss LB really rate hum highly

Agree1 Disagree4

Bertrand is not EPL level. Sign him and its a joke

Agree1 Disagree5

Hope your friend is joking about Bertrand

Agree2 Disagree3

I wouldn't knock the lad at all.
He's got great pace and is decent with the ball at his feet. Although he probably doesn't have the attacking flair of someone like Moreno, he would be a good solid option.
Not a world beater maybe, but a very competent pro.
He's had a few seasons out on loan in the championship so he can probably handle the more physical games, and don't forget Flanno was never intended to a first choice at LB anyway for the long term, so they are not competing for the position.
Maybe he'll turn out to be cracking player like Sturridge, maybe he just hasn't been given enough chances at the top level yet?
I think Chelsea fans probably don't view him as a permanent first eleven starter, but then a lot of them thought like that about Sturridge.
Clearly he's not the scout's first choice as LB target, but he may well be a very good player waiting for his chance.

Agree4 Disagree2

If Bertrand was cheap, I wouldn't mind buying him as long as we sell Enrique and add another left back

Agree0 Disagree0

Got to disagree anonymush.

1st. Cole is leaving and Bertrand isn't going to take his place. He is not good enough
2nd. JM played his RB out of position yet Bertrand is not coming into the squad. He is not good enough
3rd. He was rubbish at Villa
4th. If he is not good enough for Chelsea he is not good enough for us.

Agree3 Disagree4

Crunch number 4 is proving wrong by Studge

Agree7 Disagree0

Our weakest position in the starting 11 so it's an opportunity t sign someone good and really improve our team. He's no better than Flanagan so he's a waste of time, imo. Sturridge impressed a lot more on loan at Bolton than Bertrand did at Villa.

Agree1 Disagree2

I hope you're right. Bertrand is far superior to Moreno. He is better positionally, better control, better crosser, better tackler and stronger in general. Moreno is just faster.

Agree0 Disagree1

Enrique is 100% better

I think Bertrand would be a decent signing! He can defend first of all and has some decent pace about him also being 24 he will only get better over the next 3-4 seasons!I think given a decent run in the team he could become a very good left back for us and not to mention the price, of probably £5-6 mill is not bad business.Think the same as the Micah Richards rumours! would be a decent signing I his heart is in it.He has been injured over the last season or so and question marks over his attitude but if the guy wants to play I say he could be another piece of good business at a nice price of £5-7 million.

Agree1 Disagree0

Sorry EMS but I cannot agree with that.We need better than Bertrand in my opinion.

Agree1 Disagree0

End of last season, Villa Man City nil nil, how many times did Bertrand let Zabaleta down the byline to cut across dangerous balls? It's how City got their breakthrough and it was at least the 3rd or 4th time Zabaleta had been allowed that.

Bertrand is no improvement and I would personally rather wait for something better to become available.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bertrand is a subpar benchwarmer of a left back. Buying him would be a huge mistake. Buy a proper established professional left back. How hard can it be?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Bertrand is a decent player but we could do better.

Moreno can improve and has the potential to reach a level Bertrand perhaps will never reach.

Agree0 Disagree0

dwarfonaboat- ignoring your opinionated comments on how good betrand is (hard to look good playing for a crap team who was struggling badly and whose defence was awful, ) it's obviously to just "go out and sign a professional left-back, " otherwise we would've done it already!?

Agree0 Disagree0

Bertrand is a very good player and I would very happy at the signing. Rafa played him a hell of a lot, and for someone who is relatively a defensive coach and very tactical, that alone proves he can and will be a good signing for us.

Listen, playing under different managers and different approaches can make players look worse (and better of course) than they actually are.

If we sign him, he'll suprise a lot of people.

Agree0 Disagree0

If ( in all honesty I think it's a big if ) Ryan Bertrand signs for us I expect Rogers to conjure up some sturridge-esque magic and turn him into a 1st-name-on-the-team-sheet player

Agree0 Disagree0

@Jimmy Hustle - Rafa played David Ngog a hell of a lot.

@kev from skem - He's not of the same calibre as Sturridge, fair enough both being backup at Chelsea but Sturridge was better then than Bertrand is now.

has Liverpool's interest in Luis Muriel faded out now?

Believable5 Unbelievable33

What interest?

Agree1 Disagree1

30 Jun 2014 22:17:16
i think it was last summer we showed interest in him, I know it's been a while but we did look at him when Suarez was going to leave, he looked a tricky player, he hasn't been mentioned this transfer window I was wondering why.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Jul 2014 06:39:29
I think our interest has gone because Udinese would be asking quite a figure for his services and the guy didn't have the best of seasons last year.I think he is another the could potentially be very good given time.I would love to see him in a Liverpool shirt but I just don't think its going to happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

He was looked at as a potential replacement for Suarez last summer. But Muriel has struggled massively with form, weight and injuries and is really no better Iago Aspas in terms of a level.

The telegraph are reporting that a side from Kosovo, who aren't part of FIFA, are making an offer of £25000 and £1200 a month for Suarez to play for them during the ban. I really want it to happen. That or a cleaners assistant role at Anfield until his ban finishes. I have to say I give slight preference to Kosovo. What do you guys think.

Believable61 Unbelievable39

Had actually thought about this however not sure what constitutes 'all footballing activities' obviously fifa have no jurisdiction over that but they do over him so that could be an interesting one

sounds like lazy albeit intelligent journalism though

Agree1 Disagree0

He's already accepted a 4-month dental assistant internship in Salto.

Agree3 Disagree0

Not sure if the above is a serious post but if Suarez is banned from "all football-related activity" he would be in breach of the FIFA ruling.

Agree1 Disagree0

He can't be in breach of a FIFA ruling if the football he is playing is not recognised by FIFA. Otherwise he would also be banned for going for a kick around with his kid, or kicking a can down the street.

That being said, i'm not sure this post is serious either. Would be fun though, does anyone know any streams for Kosovan league?

Agree2 Disagree0

We all know he's been trying to leave for many months now, I say let him go as soon as we get a remotely acceptable offer.
It gets to the point when we'll be looking at him playing in a red shirt and thinking 'he doesn't even want to be here'.
Even without the biting and the numerous bans, I don't want any player who hasn't wanted to be here since before the start of last season.
You start thinking to yourself, what am I supporting here, when the guy himself wants out so badly its obvious?

Agree2 Disagree1

Actually it's a team in the Kosovo superleague called hajvalia that is looking to make an offer of taking Suarez on loan whilst he is banned by FIFA, as the Kosovo league does not come under FIFA's jurisdiction.

Agree1 Disagree0

Suarez would seriously have to be a nutter to even consider it. Maybe a ploy by Kosovan league to get recognization from FIFA? Sure it won't be the last story like this. "Indoor soccer league in the United States offers Suarez 25,000 euros a match"

Agree0 Disagree0

I do not think it ill matter to LFC as he will be a Barca player soon.

Eds

Great Monday mng to you and all.

I don't wanna crib you on this, But you said the other day, Barca had offerd Sanchez as a player swap with a club on Thursday.
What was the outcome?

Believable5 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - Nothing at this time, Bayern don't want to sell Kroos.}

Haven't bayern just accepted an offer from Real Madrid for Kroos?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is much interest in Kroos but he would like to move to Madrid.}

I see that in the Portuguese Press, Maxi Pereira (Uruguayan) has been linked with a move to LFC. Is there something in this Eds or just plain lazy journo's at it?

Believable6 Unbelievable14

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, I have been waiting for someone to get back to me, but he also doesn't know anything about it. Though his suggestion was that there was a thought that Liverpool would buy a compatriot of Suarez to keep him happy, as Coates is likely to leave. This might have come out of that, though he thinks that plan has now been shelved.}

Thanks Ed001, that's very interesting. Sounds like LFC are wanting to keep Suarez for the long term.

Additionally, I've seen reports suggesting Kosovo Super League club, Hajvalia, could/may offer Suarez a 4 month stint to avoid the ban aiding him to keep his fitness, help that club to the title etc. I know the Eds don't like talking figures, however, the reports state they may offer LFC £25.000 and Suarez £300 per week.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - was is the key word.}

Ed what's the situation with Danny Alves?

Believable8 Unbelievable11

{Ed001's Note - available for transfer.}

Surely he would be financially out of reach for pretty much all teams?

Agree0 Disagree1

I have a feeling he'll go to Qatar or the MLS, a lot of people seem to be going out there now, must be something in it for them.

Reina looks set to go back on loan to Napoli if reports are to true, although in other reports Atletico Madrid are rumored to be interested and are willing to pay the £4 million Liverpool want.

Believable17 Unbelievable13

I would expect Madrid to lodge a bid for Navas or try to sign Ochoa on loan but Reina's a good keeper for a couple years at that price. Wish we could make a run at one of the top two keepers in the WC. There's no doubt in my mind that, as things stand, Brad Jones will have to play in some pretty big games next year. Personally, I'd love to see Rodgers and Reina bury the hatchet and Reina playing PL football again w/ Mignolet waiting in the wings for an opportunity to get his spot back.

Agree1 Disagree1

I don't see what can be achieved by loaning out Reina.

Agree7 Disagree0

Reina has no future at Anfield. Navas would be great but Vorm is more likely.

Ochoa on loan? He's a free agent.

Agree2 Disagree0

I agree with AG, no point in loaning him out again. The purpose would be to save wages I would imagine but surely there would be plenty interest in him if we're only looking for £4m?

@Amerigo - how would Reina be ahead of Mignolet and why would that be good? Fair enough if he was to provide stiffer competition but he wouldn't deserve to come back and just start. Also Ochua on loan? Ochua is out of contract so is somebody going to sign him and then loan him to Real Madrid is it, don't think so.

Agree0 Disagree0

AG - not paying his wages is the only thing I can come up with, I would rather play him and ship Jones out tbh

Agree0 Disagree0

My bad, total mistake on my part. I meant something about his contract expiring, it came out blistered.

Sean Ireland: I wouldn't say he's "ahead" of Mignolet, but he's still a damned good keeper. Perhaps if Reina had started the WC, Spain's fortunes would have been better? He wasn't bad at Napoli.

Then again, seems like Reina wants to go back to Napoli, and we'd be willing to do business. I still doubt Ochoa would fancy England, though selling Reina and buying Navas at -2.5 million (reported 6.5 buyout clause) would be TOP business!

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jun 2014 15:26:44
Reina is a better keeper, right now, than mignolet

Hi eds

Any truth in the rumours in 'Bild' linking us with Lars Bender? I think he would be a great signing personally.

Thanks

Believable6 Unbelievable21

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, I will see if I can find out, but bear in mind Bild is just a tabloid newspaper.}
