Dress it up any way you want to fellas, whether it's KK's fault, FSG's fault or BR's fault, things aint looking so good at the moment, and, unfortunately, i cannot see it gettin better in the short term, nothin up top in terms of a 20 goal a season player, and our best player now very much the wrong side of 30, worrying times, oh, for a rich arabian!

Bottom line is FSG not willing to invest anymore and will probably sell the club in the summer. LFC is being run shambolically amd this is going to be one long season.

Be grateful to stay up {Ed062's Note - They have invested 30 mil and for a team thats not in the ecl thats very high. A lot of fans seem to forget we are no longer a champioms league team anymore}

What about Southampton newly promoted spent exactly the same as us {Ed002's Note - They have the money. Why the repeated pointless comparisons.}

Rafa Benitez is the only person capable of saving our club.

Okay we aint in the champions league but we are a team trying to compete in the top four and get in to the champions league im all for building a team and in for the long hall but we needed to spend money in that window to get a striker and maybe a winger. also ed062 you say we are no longer a champions league team niether are tottenham and look what they did during this transfer window. today was gruling to watch no plan b no one on the bench to help change the game. now we are saying we will spend in jan who the hell will want to come to us in jan when the prices are pumped up as no one wants to lose anyone and we are sat in a mid table position. im sorry but the board should of stepped in when they got downing fpr 20 mil or hendo for 16mil or adams for 8 or andt carroll for 35 mil

Chris

Ł29 million to be precise but that would not have come out of their own pocket but money from cup runs & league postion which has been offset by players that have left on high wages.

Ł20 million now saved per year that offsets the outgoing so net spend will be low. Team in decline.

Spurs sold Modric and Van Der Vart this window. Pretty unfair to compare their spending to ours.

We need to spend big on a proven striker like we did when we bought torres, that and a few more smart purchases, creative winger or two, keeper to keep pepe on his toes and we would be much better. Hard to stay positive but we are liverpool a special club ynwa johndog

If you think Gerrard is still the best player on this team, than you are an person. It is clearly Luis. Our problem was KK spent the money awfully. Give BR more time, Allen is clearly quality and he will get more funds.

To the person saying that Rafa can save us, he is partly at fault to start with + how do you think he will go with the owners? + How do you think he will go with such a limited budget? I am no Rafa hater, he did some truly great things for our club for which I am thankful however I can not see him working in the current environment at all. Whether you like FSG or not, if the team ever needed us to get behind them , it is now.

Andy K

Someone said we bought Torres when he was proven, get lost mate. He was pretty much a no mark and we gambled big on him and it payed off.

As a fan, I have mixed emotions. I find it promising that we are playing better quality football which is pleasing to the eyes...but our finishing is not clinical. Its the same as last season under KK. The team definately needs more time under BR. We were very unfortunate not to win against City. If we did, then its a different story. Against West Brom we fell apart after the first goal and the red card. Its always hard to win when you have 10 men. Against Arsenal we pretty much matched them but they took their chances and we didn't. We'll definately improve but if we brought in 1 or 2 more attacking players it would have been a lot easier. Now that nothing can be done and I know football is purely judged by the results. We just have to keep the faith and hope we get a run of a few wins. DAP red

I think a point about rafa is that he was lucky to have inherited a champions league team when he came into the club. I'm not saying the Champs league win was a fluke but they don't call it the MIRACLE in Istanbul for nothing....league form never lies and we were crap for many a year while Rafa was here. It is no surprise to me however that the year we finished 2nd was after Rafa had two full seasons in charge and had moulded his squad to how he wanted.

Spurs sold Modric and Van Der Vart this window. Pretty unfair to compare their spending to ours.

The point is, they strengthened in each and every area where they lost a player, FFS they even got in players for ALL departments.

Friedel now second choice, Lloris is first choice.

Jan Vertonghen to replace the retired King.

Gylfi and Dembele have replaced Modric and Van Der Vart.

They have lost Defoe but brought in Dempsey who is a kin to Jermaine in that he is a goal poacher.

You do the logic and tell me who has done a better job??. This time, Spurs and Arsenal are leaving us VERY far behind. Newcastle not losing any of their quality players also doesnt help us.

I feel bad for Rodgers, how does a man hold up his end of the bargain and get insulted like that. If FSG are poor, which they pretty much are, then why not just sell us off right now.

To Ed's, correct me if i am mistaken, but we once got a bid from the Prince of Saudi Arabia wanting to take over, and also one from a Chinese billionaire??. Did we turn down those deals or did they pull out??.. {Ed063's Note - If you are referring to Kenny Huang then you need to search the archives where Ed002 talks about the topic. Huang was most certainly not the saviour we needed}

Maybe we should try and get Jelavic from the other lot across the park, they obviously need the money and we have the Ł7-8m it would probably take to get him.
Phil (CFS) {Ed063's Note - Why do they need the money? They have actually spent quite a lot in this window indicating that they don't need money}

The one who said arab. Ask the Arab to buy your familly and feed you, why liverpool.

The money spent last season on players didnt work + the injury of lucas got thing worst. DOnt forget Liverpool played some nice football under KK but were unlucky and that drop down the players confidence later.

My observation of our last match. Only Sterling was a threat to arsenal. Arsenal defended in numbers. Our players once in possession didnt know what to do with the ball. They were surrounded and no option were left to pass. As if arsenal were playing with 15 man. All our passes were predictable.

Joe Allen is going to be our star. Borini & Nuri sahin will take time to sync with the team. Pepe is great but I think he does let in a few which he could have saved 5 yrs ago.

As I said before Andy pulled 2 to 3 defenders with him creating spaces for others. Whenever he played opposing manager needed to reshuffle everything as the threat would be aerial(Andy) + ground(andy,suarez & midfield).

We have no choice to support BR. BR might have made a mistake by letting Andy go, it can a blessing. Andy can gain some good experience and cme back to lFC. Other team are also sufffering. Manu escaped defeats twice. They have a team of players who are playing together for a long time. We have more than 4 players newly introduced.

Amje

What BEST player do you mean when you mean when you say over 30'cos i know you cant mean carragher' so i suppose youn mean gerrard' well you are seriously wrong agin matey'gerrard as cost us 2 goals in 2 games is days are over im afriad 'no sentiment in fooball'get shot now

How's a rich Arabian going to help? Ever heard of "transfer window" and "financial fair play"?
As for Rafa, he started the decline.

Gerrard costed us 3 goals and a red card in 3 matches. His error in the match against WBA, against City and against Arsenal. Agger was sent off against WBA. 3 goals and a red card in 3 matches.

The only thing I don't understand is: Why did BR let Andy goes out on loan, regardless of whether he can get another striker? Andy is quality and I believe he has a future with us.

Amje, very good post. The mistake was not letting Andy Carroll go though. The mistake was not having a replacement signed. I don't think that BR can be blamed for that. I am very impressed with BR so far. The results have been unlucky. West Brom penalties and sending off changed the game. Man City, silly individual error(s). Arsenal, good team, possible penalty claims rejected. We could quite easily have been sitting on 4 points (1 from West Brom, 3 from Man City). Most importantly though, it will come good.

To the person saying "Ł29m to be precise"...Do you have a problem with a football club living within their means? They spend their income. If you want a rich arab to come in an splash the cash then you may as well abandon LFC and go support Man City. People talk about how on Shankley's 99th birthday he would have turned in his grave after yesterday. If rich arabs came along and destroyed everything that our club stands for then he'd probably jump out of his grave and have his say! LFC is a football club. It's not some rich man's toy. The day it becomes so I will walk away until some normality is returned to our game.

Calling torres a gamble? Far from it, he was young with a good goal record captain of athletico. At that time everyone was saying we need a goalscorer, we bought one and he made an impact. Now unless suarez or borini starts finishing, we are not going to be scoring the amount we should, big challenge for rodgers right now and for us as supporters to stay positive because as we are now, thats what the players need...jdog

Torres was a no mark when you signed him obviously your cluless about football go sit back in the cupboard fool

Best player wrong side of 30 sterlings not even 20 is he

The one talking about spurs they not lost defoe and dempsey aint a poacher do you watch the sport

A no mark? Mate you are funny I think you have been living in a cupboard since 2005 and now you have came out you are in shock. YNWA

Do you have that rich Arabs number? Listen you can sit and blaim KD, Rafa, previous owners current owners and manager what about the players pulling there weight and actually taking responsibility.

Not a great start to the season but give it time and stop giving the club bad press and hard time.

The clubs a joke

Why cant you understand. This is exactly why our owner issued that letter. Keep a good mind during these times. It will be a great help to yourself and the club.

Rodgers is set to sign Owen on 2 year contract.

Pay as you play contract at the most

This should be a joke, but sadly this looks like it's true. I feel too dejected to argue against his return. Come on Owen you owe us a Ł20 millon transfer fee so repay by getting us into the champions League

We need cover up front, whether or not it means to swallow some pride in doing so. But I cant see FSG sanctioning any move for a footballer now.

This will be a god move as Liverpool have nothing to lose

We have saved a reported 450k a week in wages.
Owen is only asking 30k (according to the offer from Stoke)

That means that you could put Owen on the books and still be saving close to 21 million a year.

Its actually not bad financially.
He would be good cover to start in the Europa/Carling games and be on the bench for the league.

Drenthe is still without a club too I believe. Could be an interesting option to add depth

Pay him 10k a week and 50k a goal. It time the salaries reflected performance throughout the team.

I prefer the pay as you play terms. Owen is a shadow of his former self. In fact, I think he shouldn't ask for too much, if he still wants to keep his stable.

The day we pick players from dumpster

TBH liverpool aren't in a position to be picky someone is needed up front and owen is the only one of an quality available

Pardoe

Drenthe? His attitude is disgraceful. He's a naughty boy

We will defo hit rock bottom if we bring owen the rat back

Swallow pride - personally think he would score a lot of goals if he played week in week out - we all know more games the fitter you are??

Just stop this Owen garbage boring now!

I think we need Owen at the moment and should be Gratefull if we do get him. I think he will bring in the goals as long as he stay fit. And will also have a point to prove to the fans! So if he comes in five him a chance!!

Ed001, Phil McNulty claims BR told him he has an option of recalling Carroll in January.Could this be possible?
AH {Ed001's Note - it is possible to have set up a deal like that, it is just not possible to recall a player outside of a transfer window when a loan fee is paid.}

This is true there is a clause in the contract Rodgers said in the interview, but only in Jan we cannot call him before then,

I wouldn't listen to anything from that man.

Usually biased nonsense of thinly veiled contempt towards Liverpool.

The Squirrel

Will Carroll want to come back though also in the loan is there an option to buy?

Pardoe

Why would we do that in January when we can buy what we want, its now while we are short we need him. IMO was a silly move to let him go before we purchased a player for said position.

02 Sep 2012 19:41:34
Don't know if he will be any good but Eidur Gudjohnsen is a free agent, got to be worth a go for 6 months.

Sooty {Ed002's Note - You cannot sign a contract until January - it would need to be a year. Also it is possible a medical would be a problem after his injury. It would be a significant risk.}

Free agents are allowed to sign before Jan, why do you think Owen's holding out he had plenty of offers from abroad and the PL {Ed002's Note - Read the post - he was taliking about giving a contract until January. Then read the answer.}

I'd rather have Drogba or Owen

Surely a club can offer what contract they see fit or is there a rule defining that 1yr is min

He was a good player but peaked in his final years at Chelsea, and even then he was more of a creator than a striker, He never had much pace to begin with and is not getting any faster, wouldn´t fit into the style of play we have today.

ChinUp

You can offer a contract of any length. The Ed is mistaken. {Ed002's Note - BS. Contracts can be monthly or must expire on June 30. Loans are different.}

Eds, I do believe this was sarcasm

What the Ed is saying is that a contract can not run out in January a contract must go to the end of the season. Loans however are the exception as they can run until January (6 months) or a year. You could sign some one for six months however they would have to be purchased in January a their contract would have to end in June. Hope this helps clear up the confusion.

RAH, YNWA

I don't think he will be recalled especially after his injury. Rodgers has said he can recall him, I persume lfc would have to pay some money back to west ham though if they have paid for a year loan.

02 Sep 2012 19:39:37
Say andy Carroll has a 25+ goal season can he come back to us or do we not have a choice as he is on loan with an option to buy ?? Not sure where we stand if we wanted him back or if he had a great season an his value went up... Please explane

OxRED {Ed002's Note - I would need to see contract but if I would think WHU wish to buy AND he agrees, then the sale goes ahead.}

Rdgers has said we can get Andy Carroll back if we need him, say if Suarez or Borrini got injured BUT only in JAN not before then...

He has a recall clause but only in January

Rodgers won't have him back. He has already shown his true colours

No he is on a season long loan.

Carroll already picked up injury, so he will have to work allot to come back to LFC. We all know how his positioning is bad, and minimizes his skills...

Let's be honest br is well out of his depth if roy had got 1 point from 9 every1 on here would squealing 4 his head the man isn't good enough in my humble opinion and the simple fact he went public with big andy proves my theory rant over but still disgusted

Are these comments about a Jan recall true? What are the conditions?

The contract is that west ham will have first refusal if we want to sell, but we do not HAVE to sell

Based on the club's track record in the transfer market, it wouldn't surprise me if the loan contract is weighted in West Ham's favour with no upside for liverpool. In other words, the club are so stupid that i guarantee they have agreed his current value as the future option price should west ham exercise it but obviously if they were to do so it is likely he would be coming off the back of a good season when his value will have gone back up!

Cant recall when a fee has bbeen payed and if west ham match what price was agreed when contract was signed they WILL HAVE to accept depends on andy if he wants to go and i would not blame him if he did

How many goals has Carroll scored in the yr and a half he's been with us? Less than 15! He is and never was the solution to our problems, and thats with Kenny trying to play a a way that got the best out of him...awful!

Carroll has been in general, nothing but dire for us. I'm sure if we could all go back to Jan 2011 we would never buy him.

02 Sep 2012 18:22:25
From the Times: "Liverpool are not going to sign any free transfers, Rodgers has been told he has to make do. FSG also believe it important to keep funds back to offer the option of making Nuri Sahin's signing permanent next Summer"

Looks like FSG have come up with novel reasoning to hold off investing anymore this season.

Cody

So it totally contradicts as what Rodgers said after the game.

Mighty reds

But didnt real madrid make it clear that he wasnt for sale? thats one of the reasons we got him, becouse arsenal wanted the option to buy but real said no. doesnt make sence...

Clear on Five Live the blame for the poor state of the team lies with the penny pinching owners. Are they so stupid they can't that running a top club means spending 10's of millions every summer just to remain competitive. Look at Chelsea, both Mancs and Spurs. Even Southampton spent more than us. It's no good harping back to Comolli and Kenny, a new manager is a new start with lots of new money, no matter how inept he is proving to be.

Yes. Keeping money back for Sahin. Because he'll want to stay at an uncompetitive club.

Need to score goals or it's all academic.

If this is true they need to go!!!

Yeah and where does the millions come from.

Off a tree ;)

Grow up.

We cant expect people to repeatedly spend their money on this club.

Look at Rangers FC....

Why all this talk of signing Sahin on a permanent basis? Let's see if/how much he improves the team before we start clambering to sign.

Nuri Sahin is a waste. Henderson or Shelvey should have played. Owen is coming in.

The more time goes on the better benitez looks...we didnt realise how lucky we were at the time

2 CL finals in 3 years and a semi in the other year...hang on in there rafa we might need you back soon

They are just asset strippers

It took Ferguson 4 yrs to win the title wiv man u yh BR has only ever had 2 gd seasons wiv a club gd manger but should of had the LFC job not just yet anyway stick wiv him but if it doersnt work out watch out RAFA is still about YNWA

Hi eds am I right in saying that Harry Redknapp had an agreement with Klasnic before he was sacked?

I think he is a decent finisher.

Mighty reds {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any agreement, sorry.}

Ok ed2 thanks for the reply. Can you still sign players even when you announce your premier league squad which is either Monday or Tuesday isn't it eds? If they are a free agent?

Mighty reds {Ed002's Note - The squad will be set as of tomorrow but free agents can be signed as long as the rules regarding homegrown players and the over 21 squad size are not infinged.}

How many goals he scored since moving to england but to be fair you hit the nail on the head with the standard of player lfc could attract doesnt matter what strikers are bought their all prolific before they move to lfc morientes kuyt suarez even crouch to an extent have i missed any

02 Sep 2012 17:19:10
Eds, do you think a free agent will be signed?

Zero {Ed002's Note - I am not convinced one will or even if there is interest in the likes of Michael Owen.}

BR has just confirmed that he is interested in Own in his post match press conference. He was asked the question and he said he would look at all available players. He was moaning that we only had 19 players training yesterday!

In the post match interview, BR said if he feels someone will improve the squad he'd look into it.

I'm not sure if there is anyone noteworthy available though.

Buck also said he'd be a nut to let Carroll go out on loan, don't believe everything you hear.

Dan

No Dan, BR said he'd be nuts to loan Carroll to Newcastle as they obviously new what they would be getting.

The Carroll deal was the best we could get in the circumstances. He may even improve in value while at WHU even if they don't end up buying him. The issue was failing to ensure we got a replacement in time.

LloydyRed4Life

No LloydyRed4Life it was not only aimed at only loaning him to Newcastle, full quote below:

"I need a minimum of three strikers,ť said Rodgers. Once the window shuts, that is it until January. I have got Luis Suarez, Fabio Borini and Andy Carroll.

I would need to be a nutcase to even consider at this moment to let Andy Carroll go unless there are other solutions for that.

Andy has been working well. He knows the situation, like the rest of the group do and we will take it from there.ť

When asked about a possible loan deal, Rodgers said: Absolutely no chance “ and certainly not to Newcastle"

And the Carroll thing was not the best option in the end, as we have now seen. It MAY have been the best thing, if we ran the club correctly and actually had deals in place before sending him on his way. You should always have a 'what if' plan, someone complying risk assessments before making major decisions, and LFC did not. That was the issue.

Hi ed just heard that lucas barrios could become available on a free transfer, any truth in that? {Ed006's Note - there is truth that he could become available.}

If he is available we must get him , great striker with 101 goals to 160 games , hes a must !!!

Didn't he move to China this summer?

RedSG {Ed002's Note - Barrios is not and will not be available to move to Liverpool as a free agent.}

Whats happening in china ed ? {Ed002's Note - When I was a young kid we used to practice hiding under school desks in case of an atomic attack by the Red Chinese or Russians. I spent time working in Hong Kong in the 80s and also spent 9 months in Beijing a few years back. I am pretty sure they are not looking to invade any time soon; so you can sleep tight and not worry.}

Ha bloody ha ha ed

i meant with the football clubs? why would so many players be released ? {Ed002's Note - Which players are "being released"? There is an issue with Anelka and Drogba which folks are trying to resolve. That is it.}

What a reply by ed02

What a joke by the ed

02 Sep 2012 16:04:53
would people stop talking nonsence about drogba coming forget it we would not pay the wages and he would not disrespect chelsea in that way.

We could get him if we're willing to fight for top 4 , professional players can do anything , remember torres , meireles , owen , tevez , arsenal players

Money talks particularly when players are coming towards the end of the their playing careers. Why do you think players bother playing in MLS. That said, i dont think Drogba is likely.

02 Sep 2012 15:34:57
Ed after todays horrific performance do you think the owners now realise we are desperate for a striker.

What do you think will/could happen

DROGBA Free agent could be the missing link to the puzzle.

OWEN as a last resort

IMO

Borini- Not good enough and unfair to rely on this premier league rookie. Looks shy on the ball and at times looks like he doesnt no what to do

Gerrard- Did not live up to his expectations today and unfortunately had another bad game. He should of came off not Sahin

Reina- Poor once again and should be dropped with the reserve keeper given a chance.

Suarez- Always a menace but again too greedy and wasted chances.

WE NEED HELP ASAPP

please reply eds, is there a drogba possibility ?

LTP {Ed002's Note - Drogba at this time remains under contract but there are some issues. He is not due back in China for a couple of weeks as far as I know and as you know he has been in Cobham with the Chelsea players this week. There is interest declared with his agents from Manchester City, Anzhi and another Russian side - probably Zenit and the US - probably amongst others.}

Wow.

"Horrific performance." That's extreme. I felt 'Pool dominated long stretches of the game and were a little unlucky when Suarez was pulled down in the box not to get a penalty.

While there were a few items of concern that opened us up, I think the overall team signs are very encouraging, at least from the perspective of playing with and moving the ball around the pitch.

Now, if 'horrific performance' is referring to either the final ball or the "finish" (a word I'll use quite liberally), then I'll agree. Liverpool may 'win' in many categories and may look pretty as they Joga Bonita the ball around the pitch, but in the end, a down and dirty, ugly scratching-in-the-dirt goal or two which wins the game will please the fans more.

Unfortunately, Liverpool at this stage plays some pretty beautiful football, but they can't score. This is a glaring, neon issue which either has to be addressed with a signing that would otherwise never be considered, or will have to be lived with by the team and the faithful until the January window when we can overpay for a mediocre talent.

The real issue for me is how the players may develop the desire to get out of dodge because they aren't properly supported by management in the final third of the pitch. One way or another, we have to *win* because no matter now pretty we look, only those three points will keep players and fans truly happy.

Up now to management to, one way or another, solve this very real scoring issue.

Drogba/Anelka/Owen may all be old/expensive/unfit, but unfortunately, they will all score more than what we have you could argue. If 'Pool refuse to look there for options, they better have a backup plan elsewhere or we'll struggle against the drop this season - beautiful play or no.

No goals = no wins. No matter the quality of beauty with possession.

Time for FSG/Ayre(head)/Rogers to work out a solution.

Colin

Drogba isn't a free agent, his team issued a statement about this yesterday.

Funny how the gossip websites don't mention that though, as it messes with the fallacy they're currently trying to sell on the hopeful and naive.

If Drogba was a free agent, i doubt he'd be heading to Liverpool to step on the legacy he left at Chelsea. He'd go else where and get more money than we'd offer. In all likelihood.

The owners should go all out to get drogba as he could be the piece we need, anything upto 140k a week would be acceptable.
Otherwise owen although i would not be as excited

LTP

CRAZY DAY... WE NEED HELP.

GET AYRE OUT !!

Today just shows how much work is required. Long, long season this year folks. Allen, once again, best Liverpool player on pitch.

I wouldn't say it was horrific, but it wasn't good either.

Gerrard can't play 3 games in 7 days.

Suarez is not a striker and needs to quit falling down every time someone glances his way.

Borini is not a winger.

The team, as a whole, need to move forward and back better.

Reina needs to go in January- 4 goals against so far, at least 2 directly attributable to him.

Allen is a very good player. As is Sterling.

No point taking on anyone as all the big players will go at the first opportunity ,with this level of performance. Shankly will turn in his grave. No fight at all up front. In the great mans words if the present liverpool played in my back garden i would shut the curtains. Will the last man to leave please turn out the lights.

The first person to reply to this post must have been watching a different game,
"Pool dominated for long stretches of the game"
what he meant was we passed it around at the back for long stretches of the game but DOMINATED --NO CHANCE

Maybe we could get anelka

Colin get a grip, are you blind.

Aldos tash

What about del piero?? Surely worth z punt yes he's coming upto retirement but with s genius footballing brain that he has and dead ball specialist surely worth a punt no??

Wher was the horrific performance i saw more today from liverpool that tells me yes we are a striker short but id rather be in our position than arsenals. man of the match HOWARD WEBB well done again im not surprised anymore

I'd point out that, had we potted a couple and eventually won the game, all the negativity towards our play would have be completely reversed.

Score a few goals and win games and our possession and movement looks positive, rather than what we're doing now - making it seem like we're spinning our heels.

We were the better team. We just need to score.

Men against boys today we made arsenal look world beaters no strikers keeper having a mare no plan B what have they done to our club we are no diffrent from kenny or raffa same old story lack of major investment for Brendan the buys he has made are ok but he needs to have a overall of the squad . Ian ayres has to go he has set up brendan hung him out to dry and I think it was because brendan put him in his place at his very first press confrence you could see the anger in ayers face

Same as last season, we couldn't score today. We passed it around a lot and it looked good but there was nothing happening in the box at all. I have to say Stirling looked good, Allen too, and Spearing showed a desire when he come on but we need a proven striker to join us or we won't score many goals.

Ian Ayre has a lot to answer for by not getting the managers targets!

But let's not forget that Reina was poor again today, he should have stopped the second goal, and Gerrard did very little, even his corners were rubbish.

We should have got something out of the game today but we never.

But give Rogers time, he will get it right.

It's unfair to criticise our best players. Johnson was the one that had a real shocker, giving the ball cheaply and getting caught too far forward. It's clear these owners are looking to make the club an attractive option to purchase over the next few years. There is no way their policy so far can be designed to bring success on the field. Lots of people have criticised the previous manager for wasting money - that just does't hold. I fully believe that KK would have addressed the main issue over the summer and we'd be a top four side. BR is looking to change too much and is discarding players that are ok and can perform a job (Hendo, Adam)

How you can say that gerrard should have been taken off instead if sahin amazes me.were you watchin the same game as the rest of us?? and as for ripping into pepe, i think you should realise what a fantastic keeper he is and that he is stiil here. the only decent thing you have commented on is borini.

To the guy who just said how could you take off gerrard. Well firstly the first goal was his fault giving away the ball and he felt the needed to kick the ball as hard as he could for every pass

Ayre did the right thing in being careful with the owners money.

Perhaps he wasnt given clear enough direction.

Any fan who gripes should consider putting their own millions in the club.

So, we only have 2 strikers? Live with it

After last summer and the January transfer window before that the owners realized that it doesnt work when money is pumped into the club so they decided to not overpay for anyone this summer.They are not here to sell the club on in a few years.They want to make this club successful again but I hope they are willing to bring in a free agent striker.

Have overspent 11m borini hands up how many people knew of him b4 signing how many games he play at reading how many goals who is he ? another 11m wasted on someone chelsea released seasons ago still buying other peoples garbage {Ed062's Note - He wasnt released he left to get games!
And just because you dont who a player is, it doesnt mean they are crap! Hes 21 and was one of the very few player that gave it his all today!}

I agree the performance & result were very disappointing, there was no real fluency in our attacks and Borini was lightweight again. Someone said how could we have took off Gerrard, quite simply he was dreadful - that's a pretty good reason, basic passes going astray. As for Reina, ever since he made that gaffe in Roy's first game he has made numerous errors and I genuinely believe that should a 12m+ bid come in then he must be sold. He is bordering on unreliable now, unfortunately for us his ideal replacement Lloris has gone to Spurs and I don't think we could make a rookie like Butland our no.1 ... Rodgers will need patience as he has been left with KK's shambolic signings, legend or not he has to take some responsibility for this. In Rodgers I Trust. YNWA.

Never said he was crap ed but 11m on someone who is unproven at any level the club is a joke sorry guys but gerrard past it suarez prefers the grass to women hendo is a no no downing is a winger who cant go past a man never mind cross a ball allen good player lucas has never been that good sterling is the future and he will want to leave to challenge for honours in the near future johnson not great skrtel agger great cds carra past it enrique ok reina is tosh and has wanted a move for years clubs a mess because of bad business model bad management bad signings started with houllier still going on 10 years later will be another 20yr b4 challenge for title

We should have sold suarez to the highest bidder
it's bad karma holding on to him
he's diving all the time and asking for bookings/penalties etc

Best players allen and sterling

everyone else was rubbish (possible exception the defence)

When I read that post that says "Spearing showed a desire when he came on" I realise that we have some very strange and deluded fans.I assume this dimwit means Shelvey

The Plank

"We should have sold suarez to the highest bidder

So I take it you didn't see the corner where the arsenal keeper repeatedly pushed him in the back and he offered no reaction whatsoever, even sly showed that back in slow-mo ffs, all you are doing is buying into the lazy view of the sleaze media.

As for the squad, yes the events of the last few days aren't good and we are short up front, but nothing can change it, we should get behind the team and give the new guys a chance before lining them up for a fall.

Ed's,

At the risk of getting a "RTFP" response,
did Suso actually go out on loan to Genk last week or not? Some places reporting he did, others saying it was just a rumour? Also, what (if anything) is believed to be wrong with his attitude ? It would be a tragedy if we ultimately lost a, rare, supremely talented youngster.

ProfG {Ed002's Note - Suso is currently still at the club right now.}

The lad is chomping at the bit and wants game time. No attitude problem just a hungry young gifted football. Personal opinion is we should harness that. Even if it's 10 mins a game

I'd be very surprised if he didn't have a chunky contract on the table, by the end of this month. He is supremely talent and both Rodolfo and BR knows this, hence why he was rushed out to the pre season tour in the US. That said he may not be quite ready for first team football, although he is serving a domestic ban, which probably counts for all levels. Also perhaps Pacheco (his close friend) is deemed as a slightly disruptive influence (hence trying to ship him out) and that may be tainting/effecting his attitude.

Papa G

Brenda Rodgers is the problem with quite a few of our players the arrivals are second raters just following him he is worst than anything in English football and we have to get silly yanks again

Put the kids in

suso, and the rest of them

at least they will develop before next season

Suso is everybit as good as sahin

Hello Eds,
Thanks for this great site. I've been reading in the press that Henderson was offered during negotiations for Dempsey... do you know if this is true and what the terms of the offer were?
Cheers
Joe {Ed001's Note - he was offered as part exchange on loan, no idea if that included an option to buy or not though.}

Quick question for Ed's or anyone who knows. Do teams still submit a 25 man squad like the last couple of seasons and if so when does this have to be done by ?

Hans {Ed001's Note - tomorrow and yes. Actually, that should read yes and tomorrow now I have checked back, sorry.}

hi eds is it true that ian ayre is in trouble for our shambles deadline day dealings if so do u know how he is to blame reply would be great thanks. {Ed001's Note - yes he is to blame, at least partially. No idea if he is in trouble or not, I would assume he must be, but I don't have any information regarding it.}

Please could you try n find out, will br great if he goes. i could do a better job than him.

Let's just say that Ian Ayre was a waste of space at Huddersfield. Poor business and handling of in and outbound players. Wish FSG got rid of the entire boardroom, staff and the overrated players.

Ayre is one of the worst businessmen in this country. So utterly English to applaud mediocre people and not be willing to pay for the best. Why have we not offered David Dein whatever he wants or are we THAT unattractive...because if the former is the case then FSG are tight fools who should leave along with their trash business model...if the latter FSG should leave with their crap business model...IT DOESN'T WORK IN FOOTBALL!!

How can he be to blame at the end of the day he is not the man with the money but maybe another scapegoat for the shambles that is fsg

If only we had signed dempsey and that templeton from hearts.templeton was crying out to be signed after that performance against us.rangers were in like flynn.

redricho

Ayre isn't the man with the money? Yes he is ! He does all the dirty work for FSG who haven't got the time to come to England!

Definitely only partly to blame...

do people really think that if FSG tell Ayre that he can bid up to 8m for Dempsey as long as they get him that Ayre would risk his job by bidding 3-5m?

and why would Rodgers leave an hour earlier than Ayre? because he knew it was a dead end and nothing to change

think about it folks...

my concern is that say our limit was 3-5m and so we couldn't get Dempsey...why was there no plan B, plan C, plan D, etc?

With Lucas injured, spearing at Bolton, Adams gone. is Sahin starting against Arsenal

Sahin will start, and it's Adam.

I very much doubt it...i think br will start shelvey as hes in good form and leave sahin as a late impact sub....to cut there defences while there tired

Rodgers said Sahin is in contention for the Arsenal game.

The article is on the official LFC website.

He will certainly start..in gerrard,allen,sahin,shelvey we hav a good midfield..

I think we have the most talented midfield in the prem this season. Strengh in depth too. If I were BR I'd want to play 4-4-2 to use that strengh, if only we had a striker to play up with Suarez!

Isnt borini a striker? Or has everyone forgot about him?

Grae

But with 4-4-2 there's only 2 CM so how is that utilising more of our CM's.
4-4-2 vs 4-3-3
defence - hardly any difference in the setting up of our defenders, except possibly that the FB will be wider and higher up the field.
centre midfield - 4-4-2 will only use 2 CMs so two out of gerrard, sahin and allen, however in 4-3-3 there will be all 3
wingers(4-4-2)/wide forwards(4-3-3) - the wingers would be higher up the field in a 4-3-3 and right now we will be better off using wide forwards because our current players who would be in these positions (sterling/assaidi/cole - downing is now a lwb so isn't included) are not out and out wingers and tend to cut in a lot but 4-4-2 wouldn't allow them to be utilised at their best. If allen and sahin are in the centre, then gerrard may play as a winger in a 4-4-2 system. 4-3-3, however would be better for them.
Striker - here we have suarez and borini, since one of them is likely to be played as an wide forward (probably borini because that's where he's been playing so far, although I'd prefer him to play in the centre with suarez out wide because in that setting, suarez and borini can do what they do best suarez as creator and borini as finisher) If we had them two playing next to each other in a 4-4-2, then they wouldn't really fulfil their potential (one of the main reasons suarez and carroll didn't hit it off was that carroll was used as the person who links the play between the midfield and attack (holding up the play) and suarez was the finisher) and we wouldn't get as much goals out of them as possible.
Also, with our future (and football in a whole) looking pretty much 4-3-3, why would we change to 4-4-2 and hinder our adaptation to the new formation. Would love to hear your and anybody else's - including the ed's- reaction. Cheers.

Borini looks more a natural striker with his runs then Suarez if play 4-4-2 those 2 look like they can link up well. Hopefully Sahin starts he is a wonderful passer of the ball.

Yes Borini is a striker

What I have seen of Borini so far, he doesn't cut the mustard. I get he needs to get used to the prems pace etc but the signs aren't there. Descent reserve striker but by no means a leathal finisher which is what we need.

I hope we are proved wrong.

Red Sox Red Shirts

Play the kids
cometh the hour, cometh the MorgAN

The team picks itself borini sterling Suarez up front Allen sahin gerrard midfield , the only doubt is left back.. Enrique or downing?

H most talented midfield in prem i know its the weekend and you may have been drinking but where is the talent not even top 5 in league

If you ignore the wings, then Liverpool does have an enviable midfield. I can't think of a Prem club that wouldn't be better w/ Gerrard, Allen, Lucas and Sahin available at center mid.

Yes he is in starting line up. I'd rather Henderson play

For everyone continually naming players without clubs..they`re without clubs for a reason..would we be happy to pick up the dregs that no other club deemed worthy or good enough?
A 34 year old Drogba, earning a fortune as a bit part player, or a 19 year old Morgan, getting invaluable game time and experience for the future?
Morgan every time for me. Out and out strikers, we are short of yes. Forward thinking/minded players we are not. I still retain the post Man City optimism, nothing has changed there. The window is shut, move on and show the club/the world why we`re the greatest fans on the planet. Enjoy the game tomorrow everybody, the team will put a smile back on our faces.
The Rev

Morgan is a local lad with full of commitment but short on talent. Another Spearing for me. Not good enough IMO. I am hopeful though about Yesi.

Well you can answer the same question as to why we want dempsey. we need a proven striker or at least another striker incase of injury what part of that don't you get ??? not morgan hes young yess and needs playing time but for this situation we need someone who can get us 20 plus goals upfront thats consistent.

I'd take a proven striker in Drogba (ridiculous wages aside) anyday we are going to struggle to score goals again this season, this tranfer window was handled poorly.

Bomber

As much as I couldn't really believe that we didn't sign 1 or 2 more players BUT I think I can understand why. I don't think that we do not have the spending power to do so. We probably paid the price for paying over the odds last season to get the likes of Carroll, Downing, and Henderson. So, other clubs would want to press for a higher fee for their players. If we allowed to let this trend continue, we'll send out a wrong message and it would impact our future transfers. Hopefully this will show other clubs that we won't simply pay rediculous amount of money just because we are Liverpool.

Keep the faith, maybe we might have lost out now but we might reap in more rewards in January. I just hope that no damage is done till then. DAP red

Totally agree, I'm bored with people whinging about who we didn't sign and what an unsuccessful window it was. Just get on with it!

Myk

Come January when were sat in the bottom half with no prospect of any euro football at all and going nowhere, how will we be able to attract decent players?

In fact we may not even be able to hang onto what we have!!

Morgan will never make it. Another Darby or spearing. Local lad but with no real ability

Wow. Someone with a positive post and some sense. Should bookmark this one.

Totally agree, initially slightly dissapointed that nobody was bought but then thought the only player gone from last weekends game v City is Carroll (and Lucas Injured) and we have Sahin and Assaidi to come so I am still VERY positive about the overall picture

Dead right, lets stay positive, there hasnt been much optimism posted on here lately

I would much rather take an anelka or drogba to get us 15 goals this season on a year deal

Murph

Anything would be better than what I watched today (Sun). We are going nowhere FAST. Owen or Drogba with a proven record of scoring goals, on a short term contract would not do any harm? If we dont get somebody in, we may end up regreting it for a very long time.

After watching todays performance against Arsenal it's clear there really is no pla "B" when we were struggling to break down an "average" team.. It was screaming out for a Carrol to come on & put himself about, we do not have that player available any more.. Long season, lucky to finish 10 - 14..
YNWA

Drogba is by far the better player, there's no point in even talking about the possibility that Morgan is better.

But I honestly do not see us satisfying Drogba's wage demands if his contract is cancelled by Shanghai. We can say we're offering him Prem footie and he might know Rodgers blah blah blah, but the fact is if he didn't follow his wallet, he'd still be a Chelsea player. He will demand outlandish wages and we, rightly, will not pay them.

It's not going to happen. Stop talking about it.

Owen for me
