Morning all,

A question for Ed02 if possible. I understand and appreciate it is impossible for you to predict exactly what will happen with any degree of certainty as to the incomings and outgoings for the summer, however I am hoping to learn from you your understanding or knowledge as to any prioritised areas for strengthening and as to who has been looked at to potentially fulfil those requirements, in line with what would be considered financially viable to the club ( (my knowledge of finances is not sufficient enough to want any in depth explaination and would likely be something you'd rather not get into) . I have looked at search engine but I fear my question is a little too generic to answer.

I would imagine you have answered similar, if not, identical questions to this and I have simply failed to locate it.

Accept my apologies if I have missed this and if wastes your time in trying to answer a question addressed before.

Have a great day all.

{Ed002's Note - Need G cover, CB cover, LB/RB cover and LM - could look to a Creative AM player (along the lines of Fekir (as an example)) and drop Shaqiri and Keita down the pecking order. The club would also need to replace Salah, Mane or Firmino if any were to leave. This has all been addressed.}

I figured it would have been, however, I appreciate your time and response, Ed.

From what I know is the following …. Houssem Aouar (Lyon) has been scouted, Adrien Rabiot (PSG) is a consideration even though Eds say he’s off elsewhere. Felipe Anderson (Hammers) has been looked at but Julian Brandt seems to be a sensible option. Jay DaSilva (LB from Chelsea) has also been scouted but Bristol City are in poll position. I heard Danny Wellbeck on a free is also a consideration for rotation … whilst I got hammered for this it makes sense as he is on a free, EPL proven and covers a few positions. From the fringe first teamers Nat Philips is a CB who and Brewster may move up whereas the Academy / U23’s offers Hoever (RB) and Glatzel are ones to watch out for.

{Ed025's Note - i was reading that avidly until i seen the welbeck shout KC, you have to stop reading the beano mate.. :)

29 Apr 2019 12:45:06
Ed025 - In my defense a number of my friends love cheap vino and synthetic drugs which means I do hear some BS from time to time.

{Ed025's Note - ahh thats it then KC...nice one mate..

29 Apr 2019 13:17:18
That list sounds quite expensive Ed002?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - What list? Players are needed as cover - I have explained that the club should look to the likes of Adam Lewis who is already on the books. I don't see anything other than a creative AM as expensive. If however, the club were to lose someone like Salah, they would likely spend a good amount to replace him.}

29 Apr 2019 13:53:08
Sorry Ed do you have Brandt down as the creative AM player or as the LM needed please?

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - He is not really a LM player - he has turned from playing LW to AM.}

29 Apr 2019 14:17:23
Ok mate thank you. Ever since you mentioned him again I’ve been watching him and I really hope we sign him.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is of course interest from elsewhere, but it is certainly possible.}

29 Apr 2019 20:08:35
Ok Ed thank you mate.

Ed002 gave a comprehensive run down a week or 2 ago:

Ed002's Note - Need G, CB, LB/ RB cover and LM - could look to a Creative AM player (along the lines of Fekir (as an example) ) and drop Shaqiri and Keita down the pecking order The club would also need to replace Salah, Mane or Firmino if any were to leave.

GK - Liverpool should look for someone who can be trusted, is older, homegrown and can help with the younger goalkeepers and youth coaching

RB is a difficult position for Liverpool to address unless TAA is moved to midfield (as Ed001 tells me is the plan) and a new first team player arrives - although finding space for TAA in midfield still looks tough to me. There is no natural RB in the U23s who can step up, or so I am told, but we also know that Gomez can provide cover as well. In terms of who the club has looked at, I can only say that I am aware of one player, but no doubt there will be others:
Kenny Lala (RB/ RM) only just signed a new contract Racing Strasbourg but has been looked at by the club - not sure if he would be available
If you were to ask me who I think is a viable option but the club has shown no interest in, I would say Valentino Lazaro (RM/ RW/ RB) who would be a great fix for providing cover for the whole right hand side.

The situation at LB is rather different as there is an up and coming player able to step in to Moreno’s position of providing cover. However, I keep being reminded that thought persist about Lloyd Kelly (LB/ CB) who has been used more in the CB role as Bristol City have a young LB on loan who is clearly preferred. I cannot say whether or not there is any firm interest in Lloyd Kelly (CB), but I can say that Liverpool have looked at a couple of younger CBs as I have explained and other potential options like both Lloyd Kelly and Aidan Wilson who have been "recommended" to the club by an "agent" who may be open to cutting corners (and would be the last person on earth to discuss any of this with me) . More than that I cannot say without some issues arising.
So my advice would be to utilise what the club has or risk losing him:
Adam Lewis (LB) I think he should be promoted to provide cover, in which case LB cover becomes less of an issue
I cannot answer what the club’s views are on Juanma (LB/ CB) but it doesn’t look like he will be able to make the step up given what we have seen in the past 18 months appearance/ bench wise.

CB is easier to deal with but one thing to be remembered is that if Liverpool are to bring in a first pick CB then Gomez becomes available to play or cover either FB position in addition to CB. Although if a ub and coming CB like Godrey or Fry were signed, then Gomez would likely be first pick and they could replace Matip perhaps?
Diego Llorente (CB) has been watched by Marseille, Spurs, Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, West Ham, Fulham and Sevilla since joining Real Sociedad in the summer - Spurs could be tempted as they expect TA to leave – and I would not rule out a Liverpool offer
Dael Fry (CB) Liverpool has a declared interest in Fry as they look to bolster the HG quota - knowing that prices will increase - much is expected of Fry
Ben Godfrey (CB) - an option to Fry
Ruben Dias (CB) Liverpool have watched the Benfica CB on several occasions and watched him in a national game against Croatia in September - however, he is heading elsewhere
de ligt (CB) I am not aware of any de Ligt rumours involving Liverpool and they have certainly not expressed any interest – although many of the fans have raised the issue repeatedly. Dayot Upamecano is similar in that Liverpool has shown no interest but people still ask about.
Francisco Ferreira (CB) has also been mentioned and I will remind regular readers that was one of the three young CBs Liverpool looked at in 2017 with a view to taking one in January 2018. He is priced the way he is in order to turn any potential buyers away, such as Manchester City, West Ham and Borussia Dortmund who have also shown a little interest and watched him in the B side over the past 18 months. Anecdotally, the other two were Modibo Sagnan (he will be moving to Real Sociedad in the summer) and Perr Schuurs (he was expected to join Liverpool at 18 – but moved to Ajax) .
And my thoughts on who Liverpool should look to: Jorge Mere (CB) of Cologne, Marseille's Boubacar Kamara (CB) and RBL's Ibrahima Konate (CB) – all young with expectations set very high.

In terms of the DM position I doubt Liverpool will look to adding anyone unless there is a plan to change the way they play, but:
Sandro Tonali (DM) there has been interest from Liverpool but he is going to be very expensive and it is hard to see where he will fit in – I expect him to stay in Italy

Midfield CM is not a position where much is likely to happen but Liverpool need Lallana to be available more often or look to replace him with a LM player:
Nicolo Barella (CM) Whilst it is true that Nicolo Barella is of interest to Liverpool and has been watched a couple of times recently, he is being priced at the very top end of his market value, and Barella has made it clear that he wants to be a starter and stay in Italy - so difficult unless Liverpool plan to move Naby Keïta on to raise the money and make space in the side, it seems an unlikely move. is not a position where much is likely to happen
Diego Laxalt (LM) Long term interest will come to nothing as he looks to be heading elsewhere
Bruno Fernandes (AM) is of interest to Everton, Manchester United, Milan and Liverpool who have all looked at him on two or more occasions. Spurs maintain an interest but only if Christian Eriksen leaves. Asking price has more than doubled from what was already a high price in recent months and that has pushed aside interest from Juventus who don't see the value, Valencia and CSKA. Whilst Bayern Munich and another EPL side have looked as well, neither have a declared interest that I know of and both have other AM targets.
Julian Brandt (LW/ AM) if he is available Liverpool will be one of the interested clubs – and I expect him to be available and the focus of attention.
Joao Felix (AM) is not a player Liverpool has spoken to his club about and a lot of efforts are being made to finalise a move elsewhere.

Wings and Forwards:
Paulo Dybala (AM/ RW/ F) is another one of the nailed on players that is perhaps not as nailed on as people think – however, he is available and Juventus are open not use him in a little horse trading for either Icardi (who is likely heading elsewhere) or Salah (whose “agent” has been knocking on their door for a while trying to make a move happen. Would be a decent Salah replacement.
Nicolas Pepe (RW) two sides are in discussions with Lille and Liverpool has no declared interest – if they did it would be as a Salah replacement – I would not hold your breath
Federico Chiesa (RW) significant interest from elsewhere and Fiorentina planning on pricing him out of a move at something like €120M, Liverpool has shown no interest, but if they do it would be as a Salah replacement
Lorenzo Insigne (LW) – has been mentioned regularly but would be a Salah or Mane replacement but very, very expensive €150M asking price
Everton (LW) Manchester City don't see value in the €50M asking price and Milan see him as a potential option – I am not aware of any declared interest from Liverpool
Thorgan Hazard (LW/ AM) Borussia Monchengladbach have confirmed discussions with one club, the interest of another and that their player have been watched by a number of sides including Liverpool – there are apparently no offers on the table and no further discussions are planned before the end of the season – so currently no more than a tenuous link
Timo Werner (S) It has been reported by the Fat Kid from Bolton that a deal for Werner was agreed with RBL in January – it wasn’t. Someone else (whose name escapes me) has apparently said again recently that the deal with RBL is agreed and it is just the salary deal to be figured out – this is all news to Leipzig who have been speaking to Bayern Munich trying to agree a price. There has certainly be interest from Klopp but right now there is no deal in place at all. It is had to see how Werner would fit in unless there is a change of style.
Silas Wamangituka (S) I am not aware of any declaration of interest from Liverpool in Silas Wamangituka but he has certainly been watched by them so it is certainly possible it will come. Barcelona and numerous other sides, including several from England such as Brighton, Leicester and Spurs have also taken a look. A problem the English sides have is he will never be eligible to be home grown and would likely not get a work permit - whereas Barcelona don't have any such issues. I would not hold your breath.

Outbound (perhaps) :

Simon Mignolet (G) maybe
Loris Karius (G)

Alberto Moreno (LB)

Nathaniel Clyne (RB)

Joel Matip (CB) will make way if a new CB is to be added

Marco Grujic (CM) perhaps another loan, no assurance he will get a WP in England
James Milner (CM/ RM) perhaps
Adam Lallana (LM)
Alan (CM) can't get a WP - a further loan to Fluminese

Sheyi Ojo (RW)
Harry Wilson (RW) needs to make a decision and talk to the club to see if there will ever be a chance for him at Liverpool - there is serious interest in him now
Ryan Kent (LW)

Divock Origi (F) perhaps but right now I expect him to stay
Daniel Sturridge (S)
Bobby Adekanye (S)
Taiwo Awoniyi (S) won't get a WP
Danny Ings (F)

Why get rid of matip he has filled in excellent this season an been a part of the excellent defensive record.

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - you mean other than when his mistakes put an end to the run of clean sheets? But I do understand your point, as a back up he is not so bad, just that we should not really have back ups. We should have players good enough to fight for the place and he simply is not that.}

30 Apr 2019 10:11:43
Brandt will be interesting.

We may get to see a perfect example of everything that Ed2 has said and taught us around how we over pay and are punished in the market. It will also be a good example in how ’release clauses’ are potentially irrelevant and how papers talk trash.

A player with a widely reported £21.5m clause (apparently), I don't expect Eds to talk money but I can't see us paying less than £40m if we went for him.

My problem with retaining Matip AND Lovren comes from the selection dilemma if VVD is injured/ suspended.
They are not good enough as cover especially if you consider Gomez’s injury record.

I would target Alderweireld. He is in his prime but also may not be able to play 50-60 games a season so he could rotate with Joe when everyone is available. He will help Joe’s game as I believe he is an excellent defender and reads the game.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - my problem with all 3, and Alderweireld, is injuries. All of them seem to miss large chunks of every season through injury. I would prefer us to look at someone who is at least reliable.}

30 Apr 2019 17:36:06
Beckers Gloves, the 'release clause' is a red herring. It is (I think) €25m BUT only applies to other clubs in the German league. There is no release clause if other clubs from outside Germany (i. e. us) coma-a-calling. That's as per Ed002 who explained this in a post a while back.

ED001, who out there do you think ticks the boxes you are looking for in a CB? Personally (and hypothetically) of course.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the dream signing would be Jose Gimenez from Atletico. Can play left and right side of defence as well.}

01 May 2019 15:46:04
That would be the dream Ed001. Is he available/ attainbale? Can imagine he'd be expensive at only 24 unless he was in the last year or so of his contract?

You've got me dreaming Ed!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no mate, they just sold one centre back, Godin is likely to leave too.}

01 May 2019 16:14:15
Shame that Ed! Couldn't see us ever conceding again if he came in ;)

Back to the drawing board.

Interesting, Ed001. While we are at it, who do you think would make the best fit for AM then?

Kind regards.

I heard a while back that Liverpool were interested in Ziyech from Ajax, along with every other player we get linked with. Any substance in this rumour though?

Believable3 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Ziyech was certainly looked at by Liverpool a couple of years ago but he remains predominently a RW and comes with baggage - probably not what the club want. There is interest in him from elsewhere.}

29 Apr 2019 11:04:17
Cheers Ed. Don't suppose we are actually interested in Fekir again as reported?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - As I have said, Fekir is available and there is no reason that Liverpool could not look to him again, but they could equally look again at Julian Brandt.}

29 Apr 2019 15:14:05
Could Bergwijn be included in targets Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is a lot of interest in him but there is none from Liverpool.}
