Ed002.

So it looks like Ancelloti will be leaving Bayern at the end of the season.

I remember you mentioning something about Klopp wanting to manage Bayern or vica versa.

Do you think there will be an approach from Bayern for Klopp if Ancelloti does leave?

Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - Yes it is on the cards that CA will be leaving a year early and Bayern are indeed considering their options. Whilst Klopp did want the job this will not be good timing and will be a year ahead of previous thoughts. Right now I would not expect an approach.}

27 Sep 2017 16:25:33
Then maybe we can have a exchange with Bayern.

Klopp's profile has taken a serious beating and will not be on top 3 of BM radar.

They will be looking at Hoffenheim mgr and others.

HAHAHAH

Klopp's profile has "taken a serious beating"?

How exactly? Took a struggling side from 8th to 4th, plays exciting creative football. We've had some struggles recently, but any idea his stock has thus fallen seems petty and silly.

Klopp can't seem to set up a defence so his rep has been hit surely. The UK media have fallen out of love with him as have some fans.

Hope he stays though.

Before I say, I just want to clarify before anyone has a go at me I do not want Klopp to leave or am I trying to slate our Manager. Ed01 in the unlikely event Klopp goes to Bayern who realistically would you have to replace him at the club? Asking really to get your thoughts on Managers you think highly of after your recent article about overrated managers.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - I honestly cannot think of a realistic choice.}

28 Sep 2017 15:00:54
Rafa Benitez? Would jump at the chance to return to the club, and he would bloody do something about our awful defense.
And before people jump on my back, I want to clarify I do not want Klopp to leave. BUt its inevitable he will leave at some point for Bayern, so we need to be prepared for that.

Good Shout Buzzer can't think of any other option apart from him to be honest. Matter of time before he falls out with Ashley at Newcastle so I agree a reckon he would definitely be up for a return to us.

As our Sporting director is lacking in experience, I'd replace Klopp with a more experienced manager. They could also then act as a mentor for Pepjin Lijnders.

Someone who is exceptional at the job, a seasoned veteran, but relatively realistic; like Jorge Jesus, Mauricio Sarri or Carlo Ancelotti.

I'd love Allegri or Simeone but they are not going to leave the clubs they are at, for Liverpool mid season.

{Ed002's Note - Super Stevie Nicol is available.}

28 Sep 2017 15:56:48
No thanks 002! Nicol was a great player, but he is a little bit of a mouth piece nowadays! Haha. He has been publically scratching towards a fair few current players as well!

{Ed002's Note - You don't think a dream team of SSN and SSG would work then?}

Ancelloti was my first choice over Klopp, would be interesting to see what team would be had CA been appointed.

{Ed025's Note - a boring one..

Klopp can set up a defence, he's done it before. Lack of transfers is our undoing as it has been for years. Way before he came.

Disappointed in Klopp. Going to Bayern from Dortmund seems like such a betrayal, same as all those players who moved. Don't know how others see it, especially German fans? Maybe it's expected?

Also feel like the "if I only coach three clubs. " speech last year was a load of horsesh1t.

{Ed001's Note - what are you talking about? He has gone nowhere yet.}

Unbelievable. Ancelotti gets sacked and Robboz has already pegged Klopp as Bayern's new manager.
Clueless.

Seriously discussing klopp replacement? Whilst he has many failings he is surely the best option at this time.

If he can sort the defence out then who knows how far he can take us.

Flash, are you dim?

Read Ed2's response to the first post in this thread.

Apparently Klopp wanted the Bayern job, although at this point it is a year ahead of what the previously thought timescale might have been. This sounds to me like Klopp may be off after next season, or thereabouts.

The haters can give this a thumbs down all they want but it's there for all to see.

Do you see us moving for Gibson from M'Boro in January?

Believable1 Unbelievable11

{Ed002's Note - No.}

27 Sep 2017 13:23:29
I hope not. He isn't a particularly good defender, has no positional sense, he is very poor in the air, physically he is not very strong and he is hardly what you would call commanding centre back given that he is only just 6ft and if you are going to be at the shorter end of the centre back range you should be an exceptionally brilliant defender and have a decent leap on you (ie Montero/ Baresi/ Vierchowod etc), which Gibson simply doesn't have either of. The idea that he is a "good organiser" is also a fallacy, given that it doesn't take much organising to stick ten men behind the ball as Boro so regularly did last season and I saw no evidence of that when we beat Boro last season.

Agree6 Disagree5

27 Sep 2017 15:01:01
I personally like him Dennis. He is a decent defender. Reads the game well, tackles well, covers his partner well, organises his defence well, and puts his body on the line when required.

For me his major weakness is in the air. He may be great at making sure everyone is doing their job at set pieces but he can be out jumped too often if the attacker gets a run on him. It's nothing o do with his height. His leap and timing is just average. He also isn't massively great on the ball so he needs are more technically gifted partner to compliment him. He isn't quick either, so relies heavily on his positional sense to get out of jail. He is pretty much the opposite of Virgil Van Dijk. Van Dijk is quick, great in the air and good on the ball; but positionally weak, lacks leadership and rash in the tackle. Gibson is slow, poor in the air, average on the ball; but positionally sound, a good leader, and a composed tackle. Maybe they would suit as a partnership?

I am not sure Gibson is the best option or the right option though. But your assessment is way too harsh Dennis. Any centre back who plays at the club whose academy they came through and was made captain aged 23, is obviously not a bad player. It is the hardest position to break through to men's football and Gibson did that in one of the best teams defensively in England. Even last season where they were relegated, that was due to a lack of goals scored, not too many conceded. They had a great defensive record for a team at the bottom who conceded 70% of the ball most weeks constantly putting themselves under pressure.

I also reject your claim that it is easy to organise a team with everyone back. We regularly bring back all 10 outfield players for set pieces and still can't organise ourselves. Even in a deeper line from open play, someone has to make sure players are tracking their man, covering the gaps they should be, and holding the line for offside. Gibson does that as good as anyone in the Premier League.

He has some glaring weaknesses, so there really is no need to find an excuse to criticise his main strength. Respect your view though mate. He isn't exactly so good, that i can't understand why anyone doesn't rate him. He's just a good player in my opinion. Nothing special, but i think he has decent potential in a better team.

Gibson is a very good defender. Would be a good addition. He is a good organiser despite the above - exactly what Liverpool need.

Agree1 Disagree10

27 Sep 2017 18:30:04
Sepp, Iā€™m presuming youā€™ve not watched much football because heā€™s nothing like a very good defender or organiser. Heā€™s nothing like what we need in a defender his heading ability is pitiful and he lacks any presence. He looked out of his depth last season and is a mid table player at best.

Agree7 Disagree2

27 Sep 2017 18:39:14
Middlesbrough conceded 53 goals, which is a lot for a team built around defending. Sorry, but heā€™s simply not a good enough player to be at a top team. When we played Middlesbrough at Anfield he looked like a Championship defender and nothing better than that and he looked like a championship defender all season. We have enough defenders who are clueless at set pieces or when the ball is in the air and canā€™t deal with physical stuff, we donā€™t need one more.

Agree4 Disagree2

27 Sep 2017 19:55:38
You're right, judge him in an appalling middlesborough side. I'd be quite happy if you didn't sign him to be honest.

Iā€™m judging him on his performances full stop the end. There is nothing there to suggest heā€™s capable of being a top class defender. Heā€™s simply not good enough and Iā€™d be delighted if we didnā€™t sign him.

29 Sep 2017 22:09:48
Gibson is no better than Klavan. We didn't sign a CB in the summer as there was a real lack of quality options available. The fact we are talking about Gibson and City tried (and failed) to sign Evans just proves that. Spurs signed the kid from Ajax and their defence looks all the worse for it. We will get someone in but only when the right man or men become available.

Couple of years early on him but I think Palace made the best CB signing in Reidewald but like I say needs a couple of years in EPL.
