Eds, Lots of rumours tonight regarding Manchester City making a bid for Liverpool's Luis Suárez today, any news on this or is this just bull, I thought he had just signed a new contract. Cheers Eds.

City van bid whenever they want, it doesnt mean Liverpool Will acept the bid or suarez Will move to city, calm down suarez is staying anyway!

We will probably accept any bid and replace him with Tony Cascarino as crap ex Chelsea players are in vogue with our scouting department....

If Suarez stays it will be becuz of his luv for the club. a player of his class shud have preferred Aguero/Tevez to Sturridge. I was a big fan of Rodgers, but his transfer policy has disappointed me.

If I was suarez I would be looking for the exit door the team is terrible

If Ronaldo went to Real Madrid for GBP80M a few years ago then surely Luis valuation must be close to that.

ChrisE {Ed002's Note - Of course not.}

Suarez has signed a new contract and will not be moving. We would not mind Aguero and Dzeko in return if Man city dish out the funds and players deal. Not a chance in the world. Wish full thinking.

Suarez deserves to play with world class players.. And yet him wanting to stay with us shows the love he has for us!
We must show intent in the transfer market otherwise come summer i wudent blame him if he moved on to another club.
Fenway must invest at least 20-25m in one world class forward this Jan.

Ed002 i know this is a lot of ifs but if BR was sacked at the end of season and if chelsea did not keep rafa past the end of the season, do u think they would consider rafa for the job this time round after he is proving again at chelsea how good a manager he is? {Ed002's Note - I really don't know if they would or not. One thing for sure is that they would not appoint him based on the views of the fans - he would need to be chosen as the best available from those who put themselves forward. Glenn Roeder is looking for a job, Super Stevie Nicol already has an "in" with the owners, Pep will be looking for new challenge. Lots of options out there.}

Ed002 do u think there is a proper chance that BR will go at the end of the season? {Ed002's Note - The end of the season is a long way off right now. I think the present is far more important.}

If Steve Nicol is 'In' with the owners why does he not advise them the need to spend big on quality players like he does on other media outlets??

So hope we do not get rid of rodgers at end of season. All this getting rid of managers every two minutes is crazy and rarely produces the goods

Pep is very good but look at the team he had and the money available. Look at the fact players want to play for Barce and i hear the weather is alright too.

gareth

BR will not leave at the end of the season. PERIOD.

Give BR a chance...after all Rafa did spend a fortune on "average" players. Judge BR after he spends like Kenny and Rafa. It's Kenny fault for why we're a mid-team team now.

SLURed

Are you stupid. Just cos Rodgers had a bad start to the season your already wanting him sacked, wow sure your not a Chelsea fan, might aswell sack our managers every 6 month like Chelsea then. person. Fergie took 4 years to win 1st trophy look at him now.

I think the owners will give him 2 seasons! .. they shud aniway .. glenn roeder .. ed i hope your jokin! :o

I can't believe no one has commented on eds 'glen roeder is looking for a job' Jesus he wud struggle at macky dee's! Stick with BR and play the long game

Rogers out useless fool

Bring in Super Stevie Nicol as the next boss

It was Rafa that started the rot, i would never want to see him anywhere near liverpool again (unless it was at everton)
Tom

I think we will only get into Europa League next year because of our performance (semi-finalist? Please correct me if I'm wrong, Eds) in it, rather than through table standing or Cup finals.

Btw, that reminds me of one thing. Is our jersey sponsorship with Standard Chartered coming to an end? Any chance of a more lucrative sponsorship deal when it comes to an end? {Ed052's Note - its not coming to an end as far as im aware}

Not all Kenny's signing are bad.

Suarez is good (maybe "good" is an understatement); Carroll is good (he sparked into life near the end of season but, duh, why do we loan him out to West Ham when he finally got some form?); Adam is a waste of money; Downing is just plain unlucky (I mean hitting the pole when taking a penalty, how lucky do you expect him to be?); Can't say a lot about Hendo, I hope he will come good but he isn't spectacular at the moment.

No way Rafa will be allowed back unless certain people at the club are moved on.

FACT!

Ian Ayre can't stand Rafa, told me to my face, which I was wholly disappointed by for two reasons, his opinion, and that he was so open about it. For gods sakes if it wasn't for Rafa we'd still be stuck with the other two clowns.

Anyway, hopefully we can get some backing off FSG. I hate the fact they are almost invisible these days. I am not sure about Sturridge, he is greedier than Suarez, and no team player. I'd definitely go abroad for value.
Only LLorente for me who I think we could prise - the strength of Carroll, and better feet than Crouch - Suarez playing off him on the left a la Uruguay, murdering RB's with his nutmegs (he must do 80 a season!!)

Sacking yet another manager won't help our plight. There is no messiah out their who can conjure up miracles. We require a billionaire not skintight yonks

Don't know how true it is but i'm told that Rafa burned a lot of bridges inside the club not the owners but with staff who are still there. Shame cos I would have loved to see he him manage LFC under the owners leadership but would imagine it would never happen.

Wouldn't want Rafa

Dont blame kk

Suarez deal was nearly done when Roy Hodgson was in charge, Carroll is nothing but a donkey. Each of Kenny's signings are flops. Face it guys. He came in & absolutely ruined the club. Curse that old fool!!

hi guys. what on earth is going on with are club the rumours linking us with so called football players who can not even get in to the starting eleven in their own clubs ?
im really fed up now enough is enough we are liverpool f.c we need top players in forget about the likes of di santos darren bent i sit here and i think about all this and it is either laugh or cry are club is becoming a joke if these american owners can not dig deep in to their pockets and give brendon rodgers money to spend on top players they should pack their bags and get the hell away from are club. because were a middle table team at the moment thats a fact. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Players like Di Santo should not even be looked at, he is awful. I'd take Darren Bent over Di Santo any day. On the other side of the coin being linked with the likes of Sneijder is a bit daft. I don't think he would even consider us anymore, I'm all for targeting top players but we have to be realistic. The same goes for the likes of Di Santo he's crap and we should be looking at better quality players. Liverpool are no better off now than we where under Rou Hodgson, and that is a frightening thought

27 Dec 2012 18:49:49
whats the chances of xabi alonso returning to liverpool? {Ed002's Note - Try the search engine please.}

IMO they have secured our place in mediocrity.

We may be safe financially by them squeezing all the wages and fees, but trying to increase sponsorship, the effect is now that we cannot compete with clubs around us.

They went for the cheap option in BR in hoping he could change the club on a budget by forcing the youngsters in the side by not signing many and selling loads.

It's worrying for the future, maybe FSG don't have any ambition for us other than to earn a good wage and a return.

27 Dec 2012 19:39:05
The problem is that after spending 27m on 2 players, I will not blame the owners in not giving out more because after spending that money, the team has not progressed sf all. What makes u guy think that after spending another astronomical amount, the team will progress? I personally think the manager is not working on what rafa used to work, that is final marking. Many of the players are the same as last year but changing the method has cost us.

We need a natural born football player, an artist also entertainer. Player who can control the ball with his soul. Look Maradona, Mancini, Pep Guardiola, Ronaldinho, they seems have magnet to the ball (in real life too)

This is a long term rebuilding process. I think Sturridge is going to grow into a good player. I think the same of Hendo. Ferguson waited 3 years till UTD won the FA cup and 7 years till UTD won the title. Rome wasn't built in a day. He also had a great set of academy players coming through in that time.
Do i think liverpool can directly replicate that success,no but does the future look bright? YES
we have a great academy,directors who have built a plan to allow us to work within the ffp rules. We have a young manager who has a vision of where the club should be by a certain time. I tlooks like we also may be getting a new anfield too which quite frankly many fans have cried out for for a long time now.

ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY!!

If your going to post stuff like this then don't say anything at all, people like you are giving lfc supporters a bad name
Sam lfc

They have dug deep an look who we brought... U can not blame them for not chucking another 100 mil at the club just so we can buy some more average joes...

You've answered your own question, we're a mid-table team. The top class players won't look at us. We need players to get us into Europe, then Champions League and then go for the title. We're looking at a 4 - 5 year project to get back to 08/09 season, and that took Rafa 4 years with Champions League already.

I think we need a deep lying playmaker, like Xabi Alonso, Pirlo, someone who have the vision and range in our own half to play the ball up. Lucas may have the vision but not the range. Sahin maybe? He wasn't given the chance to play as a DMF. Stevie has the vision and range but that's in opponent's half not in our own half.

28 Dec 2012 09:18:36
What a joke of a post and those agreeing are fools. Di Santo is a young talented striker, not a world beater but a stepping stone. Darren Bent is not playing because Villa cannot afford to keep paying his appearence fee and Benteke is firing for half the wages.
Enough is enough, realise that until we get Champions League football we will not be seeing world class names linked with LFC but players on the rise or players who could help us achieve a Champions League place. If Di Santo came in he would be one of a few players like Assaidi who would help us get Champions League and then get moved on.
Cavani, Llorente, Falcao these kinds of players require Champions League. Assaidi, Di Santo, these are the kind of players who help you get there.

Anfield Andy

They're trying to secure 'our' clubs long term future. When the time is right, they will back the manager with the necessary funds.

If you can't see that, there really is hope for you.

Paul R

"Rome wasn't built in a day??" The club was already "built" by Shanks and Uncle Bob. Other managers have also made serious attempts to keep us at the top. With FSG and Rodgers we are being destroyed. I spend between 3 and 4k a year following the team. I don't just gobrubbishe on here. Get Rodgers and the Yanks out.

Sorry, I meant NO hope.

Paul R

Ed 002, I tried to use the search function but the only answers related back to you basically saying Sturridge should join. Anyways, I was wonder that seeing as you are a Chelsea supporter yourself, do you rate Sturridge and do you think he'll improve our squad? Personally I think he's okay and will improve our current options. Sorry if you've already answered this question...

Hope you all had a good Christmas and best of luck in the new year!

Green Red {Ed002's Note - I am not really a great one for "rating" players. Sturridge has a decent record of scoring given he has generally play (a) from the bench; and (b) in wide positions. It can be argued that he has on occasion run out of space when he should have let the ball go earlier. All in all, a decent player and certainly one I think could adapt to Rodgers preferred style of play.}

He is a very greedy and selfish player and if he wants to take his ability to the next level he will need to improve his decision making. For around £12m/£14m he is certainly a gamble, but if he can improve his attitude he could be a success IMO.

Disney!

Decent player for 12mil pounds?A decent player no more then 5 mil,please.No mention that is a warm banch player.

Decent player for 12m and 60k per week! wonder what is the inflation rate in the EPL?

ALL English players are overpriced. PERIOD.

27 Dec 2012 18:03:44
Any interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang? He is only 23 and can only get better and better. Sell Downing and get him instead. {Ed002's Note - After a year at St Etienne Aubameyang has attracted the attention of Fiorentina, Manchester City, Manchester United, Zenit St Pete, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Spurs and PSG, probably amongst others. He has said in the past the one day his dream would be to return to play with a great Milan side. I didn't see him leaving the Geoffroy-Guichard in January but I understand that if a significant bid is made that St Et will give it due consideration. Such a bid is being pondered by Fiorentina.}

So LFC have absolutely no interest in Auba? I feel like he would be a magnificent compliment to SUAREZ

Dude, you play wayyyy too much fifa

27 Dec 2012 18:01:18
That rumour about us going for Franco Di Santo has got to be a joke. Cannot start for Wigan never mind us, where do people get these rumours from?

Who ever our great club brings in we should all support them remember Lucas it took two years now look at him we must learn to give things time it will take years to get it right or we can be like Chelski and spend 80 mil a season and sack a manager every season and it still isnt right.

I personally believe it's due to Rodgers working with him (Di Santo) at Chelsea.

As Rodgers did with Borini, as some corners of the media seem to think Sturridge did, although he didn't.

Also Joe Allen becoming a Liverpool players, someone who Rodgers had worked with previously.

It's all about guessing the future with the past being prevalent to future decisions.

It's just paper jizz and propagation

Mascherano couldnt start for West Ham and then we bought him and he became world class.

Hi Ed002, my apologies for a non-Liverpool post, but out of sheer interest do you know if this talk of a £205m bid for Messi from an unnamed Russian club is true? Cheers {Ed002's Note - Yes it is true. A couple of weeks ago Anzhi made an offer to Barcelona that matched the 250M euro buy-out clause that exists in his contract, and put up what I am told was a very significant personal package. However, Messi was not interested and has extended his contract with Barcelona.}

Surely it was us that put that bid in Ed? {Ed002's Note - It was, but I was not sure that you could cope with the rejection, so I didn't tell you.}

Messi for £250m? Really? They can av me for a packet of wotsits and a curly wurly

I love this. All the money in the world couldn't buy him. He's shown true class and proven that he's worth more than money.

Fair play Messi.

I think Messi made a very wise choice. I mean in Barca, he has Xavi, Iniesta to pass around and play the ball. Who does he have in Anzhi? Eto'o? I think that is also why Messi can't duplicate his success in Barcelona with Argentina National Team.

Hello Ed002,
to be honest, I`d rather have Ba in than Sturridge. Gets more playing time, scores, and is a bit cheaper. But I guess that Daniel is coming in, Demba is not, right Ed? {Ed002's Note - I would doubt Ba would be cheaper. Liverpool would need to meet whatever fee Newcastle want to charge and then deal with the additional fees wanted by his agents and advisors. Then of course he has very specific wage demands that would need to be met and then there are the extremely high insurance costs associated with the risk of injury to his knees. He is also four years older than Sturridge. In balance, I would think a move for Ba could be high-risk and costly.}

Daniel Sturridge is far better than Ba, and a better bargain all round than Ba.

Wages have to be paid so roughly the same, Sturridge will earn Liverpool more than the 5m different in shirts. Perhaps England shirts if Liverpool get a cut of that as well, not sure.

Ba is just a target man like Carrol and this is not Liverpool's style of play....pass and move with Sturridge hitting the ball first time is goals goals goals...there is no time in the box for 2 touches, carroll needs 3

Thank god for fsg and brendan.thats wat comes to mind when i read a post like that

Can!t remember which ed wanted to bring in Sean O'Driscoll. Now that he's available, will we hear calls for him to replace BR !
Red Knight

27 Dec 2012 17:55:19
get hiddink, redknapp, someone of that ilk, a proper footballing man no more rookies. the owners need to bite the bullet. this is not good enough..YNWA

Look wat he did with Swansea it took him 2 years give him time there is glimps of good football at times and he said its not a quick fix I hope he gets time or it will be a great lose

28 Dec 2012 17:28:22
Get off his back you saddo's.

Some of our football has been excellent. Its obvious were we need to improve. Rodgers knows it more than you and its just a matter of time, players and fans being patient.

27 Dec 2012 16:50:48
all the ex chelsea young player is Liverpool target. if they are best then why they never have any cahnce to play for Chelsea ?
hhh

When was the last time anyone came thought the youth ranks at Chelsea? JT?

I don't think they work like that at Stamford bridge. Preferring to buy success rather than breed it.

davethebutcher {Ed002's Note - Chelsea have put considerable efforts in to the youth set up in recent years with a number of players making in to the first team squad in the last couple of years.}

This is completely incomprehensible, I have no idea what you are saying...

Chelsea rejected Christian eriksen. {Ed002's Note - Twice after trials, which backfired when Chelsea made an acceptable offer to Ajax to buy him - and the player rejected Chelsea.}

How many of our current squad bar saurez would get a game for chelsea?

Why do young players of 17 never get a chance at chelsea? You just answered your own question. {Ed002's Note - A 17 year old was given his league debut on boxing day by Chelsea.}

Roman has not been that interested in bringing youth through as he wants success NOW and can afford it. Now the FFP rules are coming in he is investing heavily in the first team and the youth structure, so in the future they will see more and more youth players coming through. But we are a few years ahead of them in doing this and in 3-5 years we are going to have a squad to compete with anyone. Mark.

27 Dec 2012 15:42:41
Do Liverpool have any remaining interest in recent targets David Teixeira and Dusan Tadic of FC Twente? {Ed002's Note - I really don't know of any interest ever being there in terms of Teixeira and Tadic only moved in the summer to Twente.}

Tadic said that he had an option to come to liverpool on transfer deadline day.

which must have meant that liverpool agreed a deal with Twente for his signature in the same transfer window that he moved to Twente.

true story...

In an interview yesterday, FC Twente striker Dušan Tadić claimed that he rejected a move to Liverpool on August 31. He said:

"On the last day of the transfer market I could've signed for Roma or Liverpool.

"They're both brilliant clubs, but it was not the right time. Only a transfer earlier in the summer would've given me time to really get used to a new environment"

27 Dec 2012 15:40:33
Is the £18M buy out of Carroll triggered by West Hams staying up or is it just 1st refusal on Carroll on their staying up?

And if, as I expect, its only an option to buy why add stipulation of West Ham staying up?

-Luken {Ed002's Note - I have not seen the details so I cannot answer. I understand it is more than an option to buy.}

I love him as a player but I don't understand why united want him. They are pretty set up front. You'd think they could use some strengthening at the back.

~Fresh

At the time of the deal a website stated there was no clause as reported were thet had to buy if the stayed up they rejected that so now there is an optional clause which now looks only a dream because no chance west ham will pay over 15m

So its like a loan to buy but only if they stay up kinda thing.

What are you on about? If they stay up they will buy Carroll, pretty simple as that. They cannot refuse.
The thing was that they expected Carroll to help them stay up. There is no way Liverpool would have accepted just a loan deal.

27 Dec 2012 15:18:07
Read somewhere that Lewandowski accepted Mancher uniteds terms. Have you heard anything about this? Thanks {Ed002's Note - Whilst there is no agreement in place for him to join any other club, it is very likely he will move to Manchester United next summer.}

That doesn't make any sense?! They already have Rooney, rvp, chicarito, welbeck and plenty of other attacking players. Is one of there players likely to move on apart from nani?
Sam lfc

27 Dec 2012 14:42:54
Second Ince bid accepted, Sturidge deal accepted.
Other targets are jeffren, do santo and holtby
Ali G indahouse

So we are going for 5 strikers?? not very believable is it??

27 Dec 2012 13:55:53
Ed, is there any updates on the Tom Ince transfer (Has it go any closer, or is it still where it was)?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - There is nothing new that I am aware of at this time.}

27 Dec 2012 13:37:13
Is there any truth to the Alexander Pato rumours? Are we in for him? Please advise Edds {Ed002's Note - There is no link between Pato and Liverpool.}

If I were you I would lay off the vino.

No we are not in for him, two reasons why (1) he is a good player (2) he can get in to his team.......
Red Dave {Ed002's Note - Pato will be moving in January - but Liverpool is not going to be his destination.}

27 Dec 2012 13:27:57
Evidently this season especially, liverpool definitely need a few men in the middle of the park, allen,henderson,lucas are all championship players at best. Liverpool will be bidding for momo diame and scott parker.

Did you really just say that lucas was a championship player at best?? shame on you, what have you been watching, lucas is the only player at the moment who you can rely on to not put a foot wrong all match

Championship? Allen maybe, Henderson probably but Lucas? What kind of beer have you been drinking?

Evidently you know very little about football

No they won't

How can you Lucas is a championship player? You obviously have no clue about football

Lucas? Championship player?

Enjoy fishing do we?

You having a laugh? Maybe drinking too much eggnog...Lucas a championship player? Hendo and allen have both shown their worth this season

Haha. surely your still drunk off the xmas ale. you say allen, hendo and lucas are championship players and then suggest were after scott parker, and momo diame!!

- slim

Lucas has been out for 9 months before the injury he was arguably the best central midfielder in the league with Toure

Championship?! Behave talk about overreaction to a poor game. Lucas is one of the best holding midfielders around who is coming back from 2 serious injuries. Allen will prove to be a great signing who keeps the team ticking allowing the likes of Gerrard etc more licence to get forward.
As for Scott Parker he is an overrated Southern media darling. The press like him because he's English and runs around alot. The reason Parker runs round so much and makes a lot of "tackles" is die to his poor positional play and the fact he can only pass sideways
5times

But still they can play better football than you

None of these players are champ players hendo is the worst but still not a champ player allen and lucas are quality players

Is your name Lucas by chance, coz surely you're not on about our number 21?

Hands down the stupidest post ever recorded on this site

Parker poor positional play and can only pass sidewards? Clearly poster you don't get out much! Very good footballer but won't be coming to anfield! He's at his boyhood club and won't be leaving

Scott Parker is so overated

Lucas a championship player?? have u lost the plot mate?? one of the best midfielders in the world at the moment!

Lucas is far from one of the best midfielders in the world, very very far!

28 Dec 2012 09:56:04
Rest / drop Stevie whatever you want to call it and play Lucas holding with either hendo Allen or suso in front of him then you'll see the midfield start to click

Is this post for real? Why waste your time by calling them players championship standard then saying they should be replaced by Diame and Parker! They are no improvement in my opinion

27 Dec 2012 11:14:51
Hello eds and reds.Heard a rumour last night and wondering if you know anything about it. Theres a young lad(22 i think) here in ireland called steven mc laughlin who playes for Derry city. He had a weeks trial at Not`Forest about a month ago and is due to sign next week. Heard last night that liverpool were spposed to be watching him though and with o`driscoll loosing his job yesterday i was just wondering if theres anything in it. Cheers eds. Reded. {Ed052's Note - I would doubt it hugely}

27 Dec 2012 11:42:03
watchout out for burak yilmaz and Pierre Aubameyang.One shall join in addition to sturridge,ince.

27 Dec 2012 11:10:24
Heard a rumour we may be in for another wide man, ive heard a few names bandied around but one that sticks out to me is Alan Dzagoev.

Any truth in this one ed? {Ed052's Note - no}

27 Dec 2012 10:22:45
Hey Eds, sure you're going to be asked this a lot today so apologies in advance.

What's the situation with Holtby? (not the most reliable) are reporting that he won't sign a new contract at Schalke? His deal expires in the summer.

Does that mean an overseas club I.E us can negotiate a ore-contract in January and other German clubs can't? {Ed002's Note - He can sign a pre-contract in January. Schalke have confirmed that they are to offer Lewis Holtby a new contract but are aware that there will be interest from clubs wishing to speak to the player in January and getting him to agree a deal might be difficult. Aston Villa has added to the previously known interest from Valencia, Everton and Arsenal and unconfirmed rumours suggest that both Manchester United and Liverpool may also look to Holtby. Perhaps the most interesting option that he may have is Inter Milan who most definately has an interest after stepping back from any deal for their first choice midfield player. However, Inter are being advised by Di Frisco that Holtby is perhaps two years from being ready for such a move but in my view it remains a possible destination - although they are looking at Belhanda as well. There might be a chance to tempt him in January.}

Didn't his agent recently say Holtby has no interest in a move to Seria A? He would only like a move to La Liga or Premier League.

ED002 so do u think he is a possible signing on jan for us? he seemed keen to come to us when asked about the rumours {Ed002's Note - I would not expect Holtby to move to Liverpool in January. What Liverpool might want to try is to look to speak to the player and his representatives about a move when his contract runs out in the summer. That can be subject to a pre-agreement signed in January.}

27 dec 2012 10:20:40
highly unlikely but id love to see either one of these join in january--wesley sneijder,keisuke honda, lewis holtby, christian erikson. we need some sort of playmaker and i believe br has enough knowedge of the game to realise that- bitterly dissapointed with stoke result, we cant asfford to stay too far back from fourth position at this stage- happy new year fellow addicts! {Ed002's Note - Perhaps a "playmaker" will be a target for the summer.}

Honda & holtby no! sneijder is being linked with spurs but I believe they will go for eriksen? Isco is another along with moutinho who will not be heading to anfield? Munian is not on liverpool's radar and liverpool are not on his! Belhanda will have a choice of clubs? I did think at one point lfc were looking at nene but that proved wrong!

27 Dec 2012 22:04:08
Playmaker n two wingers. Vital. Another striker would be a great addition also.

Morning all
Being reported today that Brendan Rogers is after Di Santo from Wigan(Chelsea link again?). Was out battled last night against Stoke,made our boys look small.They are a big side. And is it me been on the juice to much over Christmas but does Reina look smaller than most premier league goalkeepers now? Just an observation.

Reina has lost weight to get back into shape, he should be able to spring like the cat he was now ;)

Reina is smaller than most keepers, he's 6 foot 2.

27 Dec 2012 14:19:47
reina looks like he'd rather be anywhere else and has done for 2 years now, i dont blame him...start calling for the managers head at home games PLEASE..HE'S SMALLTIME MANAGER THE WORST IN THE LEAGUE, we could end up playin championship football in two or three seasons time with this clown in charge, THE WARNING SIGNS ARE THERE, liverpool are dying before my eyes....sad we deserve better than this

I'm too down-hearted, team like Stoke battling with us, it is not good at all. The team is not actually performing to our expectation as fans. Let the team bring in a finisher like Mechu, dzeko or the like of RVP. We are tired of being mocked.

Di santo is a good buy has bags of potential. Rodgers needs to be given time he doesn't have the players or the money that previous manager blew.

27 Dec 2012 15:50:11
he's not helpin himself by paying 15m for the likes of joe allen, a nothing player...rodgers is a poor manager as allen is a poor player, swansea are hardly missing either of them, wake up and smell the coffee

I am unfortunately in agreement with some comments about BR ! The bench mark has been lowered by bringing him in ! To show their intent a top manager would be the only reason to replace our king ! The owners have been misinformed as to how we could become top dogs again ! With kenny we made a couple of bad buys but some good and some only now showing what they could do ! We were not seen as a walk over last season , but now we are perceived mid table because of the manager :( If they approached the situation with a top signing manager.. players would want to come to Liverpool again ..sorry a rant I know

Red aid

Agree with poster calling for Rodgers head he us a disaster and the fans excepting this mediocrity is bad not one of his signing has had a effective contribution to the team Joe Allen is terrible dm who can only pick side would pass and sahin not getting in side borini can't score of and he is always on look out for Chelsea, rejects

If reports in the Daily Mirror are true and Liverpool are looking at Di Santo from Wigan Athletic as a potential signing. My beloved club is finished......Please eds reassure me this is paper talk!! {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any interest from Liverpool in Di Santo at this time - I would think it is just speculation. If I find out anything more I will let you know.}

In case you haven't noticed mate, our beloved club has been finished for years and BR is now currently trying to rebuild it.....signing Di Santo therefore will not be (is not) the signal that we're "finished". I do however think BR should buy one or two big strong players (who can also pass the ball when in possession) to compliment the smaller more technical players. Our team seems to be getting very small and slight which is fine if your playing on the continent or in La Liga where you can win games with a team full of smaller technical players. The Premier League is less technical/skillful and more physically demanding (sorry to burst your bubble a website) It relies more on having a good mix of players to be successful. If we sign Sturridge and Ince I actually think we'd then have probably the smallest team in one of the most physically challenging leagues in Europe and I think it would be more difficult for us to break back into top 4. Whilst it's important to give BR a chance, I am worried his style of play and choice of player will not meet the physical challenges that are needed to be successful in the premier league

In truth Dalglish signed worse players than di santo thats why we are where we are....Rodgers dosent see liverpool as one of the big guns anymore because it makes his job easier to play it down, he's happy mananging midtable mediocrity....start calling for his head. he should never have got the job in the first place, he cant believe his luck....northern irish clown

Hi Ed, From which club Napoli Got a 45M Bid for Edinson Cavani?
Great Site! {Ed002's Note - There were bids made in the summer by Chelsea and by Juventus, one for cash and one for cash plus players. These were rejected by Napoli who had the player agree to sign a new deal.}

And let me guess Juve offered player plus cash {Ed002's Note - Two players, Giovinco and Matri, plus a pile of cash was offered by Juventus to no avail.}

Shared the lift with a fully bearded, scruffy Ian Ayre last night on the way up to the box we had at The Britania and asked him if the Sturidge deal was done and dusted. He just said "nothing's done until its released in the press", but as he got out at level 3, the boardroom, he gave me a nod and a wink as if to say it is all done. Not much of a rumour I know but there you go!

Jack the Groove

PS. What a waste of money!

What a waste of money ? Sturridge or Ayre ?

PPS. The box was the waste of money, not Sturidge BTW!

Jack the Groove

Sturridge will be a waste of money. I am beginning to think FSG and Rodgers are Manc plants put in place to destroy our club. If they are, it's working we'll. {Ed052's Note - howdoyou know he will be a waste of monry?}

This can't come soon enough
we clearly lack a striker

but we should get a couple...
and get carroll back so we can vary the play a little

Sturridge will be awesome.. Power, Skill and Pace! A young Emile Ivanho!

Sturridge will be a good addition to the squad but lets all be honest here, he aint worth £12m

I think 12 mill is a very fair price. I rate him much higher than Carroll whom we paid 3 times as much for.
He's fast, young, strong and to be fair to him, he's managed quite a decent strike rate taken his lack of regular playing time into consideration. I am very excited to see what he will be capable of when given regular first team football.

Alright Eds, so we saw how our defence failed us last night. Again. And horribly. We've conceded 6 goals now to Villa, Stoke who rarely score. We can't handle Jones, Walters, Weimann what will happen when we face RVP, Rooney on Jan 13. Seems like Brendan and we fans were so concerned about our lack of strikers, we seemingly forgot that our goalie and CBs need competition as well.

Ed002 said the other day we weren't looking at any defenders this window. But how about we rekindle and pursue our previous interests in Sakho of PSG and Amorebieta of Bilbao. They can deliver that 'kick up the a**e' that made Downing play wonderfully that other day. (Though that now feels a flash in the pan, again) {Ed002's Note - I think what I said was that defence is not a priority unless someone leaves. If, for example, Coates were to move on, then I would think there is a chance someone will come in. However, don't lose sight of the yuoung defenders so much is expected of. Add that to the limited funds that will be available and I think you will see why the priority is elsewhere.}

Yes finance is an issue I understand. But it was so shocking to see Jones make a fool out of Agger for their 2nd goal... and he is normally so reliable. That's why its even harder to digest.

Also felt if Jones can bully our defence like that, a towering CF who was slowly coming into his own after a good showing at the Euros, was maybe unfairly treated... he could have been an asset in these sort of games. Anyways, hoping for a better showing next game and in 2013.

(Oh and forgot to sign off)

Gogol {Ed002's Note - So would you sell Agger on the basis of yesterday's game?}

Not sell, but drop to the bench for a couple of matches. No one should take anything for granted.

Gogol

I can't be the only one that thinks we'd be better off starting coates instead of skrtel this season can I?

The defence being so bad is all to do with the 4-3-3 system, the system is prone to being opened up more often. Look at barca even they concede quite a few with the defenders they got. Our defence was great last season even with the shocker we had in the league. Due to the system being so open the defenders are not as together as they were last season, I actually believe this is the reason why we are conceding so many goals and it may have dropped individual confidence.

KingMiz

I would rather we play a 4-5-1. That way our wingers in Raheem Sterling and Thomas Ince(he has signed hasnt he?!?!?) can help out and fall as fullbacks while Johnson and Enrique can double up as cover for when Agger and Skrtel go for the ball, At also allows Suarez to pull defenders away to allow the likes of Gerrard to bomb forward along with Sterling and Ince.

If i was to give advice to Rodgers, let him take a look at Rafa's reign when we ran Utd ragged for the title. We played with a classic 4-5-1. We played with 2 Centre Defensive Midfielders. Alonso was the one responsibe for creating the chances by spraying balls left right and centre and occasionally bombing forward while Mascherano was the destroyer of opposition attacks. IF we can lose Allen and play Sahin and Lucas as Centre Defensive Midfielders, it might work. Sahin can do what Alonso did and work the balls towards the forward wing channels while Lucas can recycle possession and keep the back 4 safe. I am sure we will then see the Gerrard of old as he will know he is "completely" secured at the back and might even stay in the opposition half waiting for the counter. Long story short;
Play Sahin/Henderson and Lucas as defensive midfielders and Gerrard as the "number 10"...

Sama will be a future first teamer

yo edz giz all's you got on yilmar, heared he a target?
nice1
bil {Ed002's Note - Burak Yilmaz has attracted interest in the past nine months from Sevilla, Spurs, Fulham, Dortmund, Beyer Leverkusen and Newcastle. There are also unconfirmed rumours of interest from Liverpool dating from as long ago as early June. Lazio and Lokomotiv Moscow have both spoken with the player after the clubs agreed that they would meet the asking price from Galatasaray - but I would think that has now risen with his recent performances. Atletico Madrid are very keen to discuss a move for the player but I suspect that a move before the summer is unlikely.}

Sturridge & Ince are Done Deals as most of you would probably agree, I've just heard and I dont believe it myself that Liverpool have approached Fulham enquiring about Berbatov

Don't want that lazy rubbish anywhere near the cub. He's exactly what we don't need.

I hope we have - he is a class act

Why on earth would Fulham sell thier best player

27 Dec 2012 13:46:35
lads.i understand this is a rumour page but is sayin "i've just heard" the same as reading it on the lfc website media watch page the same as a rumour?some of you fellas make out as if you've heard something when to be honest it's just duplicating media rubbishe.maybe i'm talkin rubbishe but hey ho or should it be ho ho?

Franco Di Santo for £4mil as a backup striker according to Daily Mirror. If true sack Rogers now!

Those who doesn't believe it, need to get a grip and understand that Liverpool is now truly a mid table team with no ambition and can only attract average players. Sturridge and Di Santo are the perfect example. No surprise here at all.

And if not true, as is probably the case? Or if it is true and he is a success? Someones needs rid of and it is not BR.

Andy K

He is better than caroll,mark

After yesterday and Villa I can't think of any reason to keep Rodgers. We are getting stuffed by absolute rubbish.

I would doubt that this is true, it seems that the papers are just looking around at players that BR have worked with and making leaps.

Di Santo is a striker who is not a regular scorer with Wigan. We need someone who can take the burden from Suarez and I personally don't believe that Di Santo is that man.

As far as players we can go for we have to be realistic and know that the top bracket is out of reach. We have to be wise and I hope that BR can do that.

Billy

How Bredon is not a candidate for the sack is beyond me he was tactics lack penetration his signings to date are awe full need to get rid we are losing to teams we should not be Brandon out even Dalglish was better then this fool

Agree with the 1st reply, mid-table club now. If you pick a mananger with a track record of success then you'd expect big things, if you're manager has ambition for survival in the league then you get what you pay for.

27 Dec 2012 08:51:32
Di santo!? I thought sturridge was bad enough! What is happerning at LFC? Teams like swansea are being linked with david villa and were signing bench warmers! Yesterday was awful no plan b and lots of wasted chances, rodgers needs to take a long hard look at himself and realise the avrage players we have carnt play lke barca, and bringing players like di santo, sturridge won't change that, I think personally we need two experienced players in with the kids and one being an out and out goal scorer

You are moaning we have no plan b yet every player we are linked with you moan about? Swansea won't buy David Villa simple. We are after players who want to join as going out buying Falcao, Cavani and whoever else you want we cannot get at the current time. Let the manager get his players in and support him like you supported the dinosaur Dalglish and all the donkeys he bought and left us stuck with.

Now there will be some people who will come and defend BR and FSG's transfer policies. Without CL Everton managed to get kavin mireles and jelavic far better than borini. BR only is after the players he worked with in the past. We do not have any Director of Sports to help BR. I still do not get why Shelvey was not taken off yesterday. Suso was playing much better than him.BR and FSG do not have the right to destroy the club

27 Dec 2012 18:25:07
Surly we need a striker not a back up striker. Suarez maybe a talented footballer but he would be better providing chances for others and chipping in with 15 or so. His conversion rate is way to low to be deemed a lethal striker.
We should have unearthed an out and out goal poacher from somewhere by now.
Our accadamy or our world wide scouting network must have young players who they consider potential number 9s.
Poaching goals is an instinct many players have it but for some reason we can't find one.

We waste so many chances its a crime.

Have some faith in brendon he is trying his best and as for me he has got my support we need to give him more time rome wasnt build in a day
