Tried searching for Toshack after his comments today.

“If Liverpool don’t win a trophy this year then they’ve got a decision to make (about Klopp), ” said Toshack, according to the Belfast Telegraph. "

Do you think there would be genuine pressure on Klopp if he were to come away from the season without a trophy? He's spent tons, so I understand Toshack's stance, but the progress has still be impressive.

Thoughts? Eds?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - i think thats unfair of tosh JCS, klopp has done very well to rebuild the club and they are clearly the second best team in the EPL, yes winning something would be nice but there is clear evidence of improvement and its only a matter of time before the trophies come along, to put a time scale on it just puts undue pressure on the players and manager and that helps no one...except the other teams of course mate..

Spot on Ed25. There’s only really 3 trophies (arguably 2) worth winning and everyone wants to win them. There are too many variables to say you have to win something.
The main thing is to be in the hunt then if all the planets are aligned you will win.
You could certainly say after last season’s CL final and our current PL position we are definitely now back in the hunt.

So he's suggesting that we sack Klopp and hire who? Mourinho?

Klopp is one of the better managers that we'd had in years and we're making positive strides forward. As long as we have progress, I think we should keep Klopp and the trophies will eventually come. The question is, which one will we get?

I'll help the cause if the owners keep backing Klopp to improve on his team and we retain our best players like we did this season.

I probably get the sentiment that Klopp needs to win trophies to be considered among the best managers. But i don't think any other manager could have half achieved what he has with Liverpool. We could have won them trophies too. We have been in 3 finals and things would be very different if we had won all of them.
But to say club would sack him if he doesn't win anything this season is a ridiculous statement to make. We have been competing in finals and this season we will probably take city to the wire for the title. He has us where we are supposed to be, Competing for top honors.

On another note, if and a big if, but if we don't win anything this season, i'd be worried about a few players looking around, especially with the likes of Madrid, Barcelona and Munich struggling big time in their respective leagues. i think it would be inevitable that some of the clubs would look at our star players in the summer window and these kind of transfers have happened at LFC.

Toshack should know better than to come out with this kind of crap, he's been a manager long enough himself to know that constantly chopping and changing doesn't work. It took Ferguson years to win anything at United and then they went on a 20 year long run of success - that's the model we should aim for and only make a change if it starts to go desperately wrong.

You would think Toshack would know better than to make those comments. Liverpool have massively improved in just a few years.
There are several teams capable of winning the premier league with Manchester City being arguably the best of the lot.
So if Liverpool come up short against Man City, do they sack Klopp and have yet another period of transition, who would they replace him with.
The premier league is definitely the most difficult league to win. Maybe if Klopp took the easy route and managed PSG, Bayern, Juventus, Celtic or the 2 team la liga, then he would have plenty of trophies.
Liverpool are currenty 2nd in the league having spent less than some of their main rivals. Klopp is doing a great job and eventually with a bit of luck trophies will follow but there are at least 6 teams thinking the same way. No team has a divine right to win trophies.

Really disappointed with comments made by Toshack if true.

As I’ve said before, there is no set rule or timescale no matter how much money the club has spent.

It has been a long time since this Liverpool side has been so solid, plays exciting attacking football and I gives me belief to go into every match respecting the opposition but thinking we should have them. No more worrying about Charlton Athletic, no more points dropped to Blackpool, Hull, Sunderland, Swansea type teams. Klopp has taken us to 3 finals. 1 we lost on penalties, 1 we lost to defensive failures and the last was we got out smarted by a master team in Real. I am surprised in this comments have been made as FSG tied down Klopp to a long term contract and I think LFC with Klopp's hard work will be a very attractive club should FSG want out. Klopp has done a major rebuilding job with limited funds compared to Man City, Chelsea and Man U and has won back the crowd and made Anfield a really tough fixture unlike the Roy Evans days and the latter Brenda days or the last of the Hicks and Gillet era. I am proud we play exiting football, we look solid defensively and if we lose the title to Man City then it will be because they are VERY SPECIAL. YNWA Red MEN!

Seeing as man united can't even sell tickets for their UCL game I think we are in good stead.

Why is it that we are constantly reminded that Klopp has not won a trophy yet at LFC.
Yet on the other hand Poch is always described as a success even though he's never ever won a trophy in any league.

Maybe Tosh knows about a certain spanish side, from the capital, who would love to sign a manager both carismatich (spelling ) and developing in the near future.

He is softening the blow for us, trying to make it " the fans choice "

Btw King Carlos.
We did play some great stuff under Evans.
He is in my eyes one, if not the biggest gentleman we have had at the club.
Admitting to his mistakes and always having the clubs (not his) best interest at heart.
To me he is up there as the best servant of Liverpool Football Club.

Hearing sadio is fine for PSG, Milner will make the midfield alongside Henderson and gini, Gomez should be taking RB.

id think that's anyone's guess. But i would go with fabinho in place of gini as PSG because he has played there before and he knows the opponent.

Makes sense. Makes us more solid defensively away from home against a very good team (pretty sure Neymar/ Mbappe will both start) and gives us fresh legs when at home against the blues Sunday (Trent back in, Gomez just had one game break, gives Milner game time after injury, could bring in Fab for Hendo or put Shaq back in starting 11 etc. )

Let's hope for better showing than last 2 away CL games! Come on you mighty reds.

Wolves still interested in Origi for January Eds?, not saying he's the answer but they could certainly do with a finisher.

I hope it's only a loan and he revives his old form while there, to come back and help us out.

{Ed025's Note - if they offer £500,000 take the money and run i say ArAy, not only will you get him off the wage bill but will be ridding yourselves of a millstone from around your neck as well, and freeing up space for a better player to come in or even a reserve to get a chance mate..

Come on, Ed025. We bought him for 10 Million. I doubt very much that the club would let him go for anything lower. It's probably wishful thinking on my part (the "old form" of about 6 months, couple of years ago), but i do rate him higher than any of the other backup strikers we've had/ have, Sturridge excepted of course.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - just a bit of banter mate..hes worth at least 10p more than that.. :)

IMO it would make sense to take a cash deal for him in Jan, as at least that puts some money in the coffers.

If it’s just a loan, I’d rather keep him. Injury to Studge and he’s our next go to after Firmino. At least he had the experience.

Next season, I see Brewster challenging Studge’s place, but I don’t think he’s going to be fit and firing this season.
