Is that because you don't know or your not allowed to say and we'll just have to wait?

{Editor's Note: Actually they said no to £18 Million too. Real Madrid went back on the last day of the window as part of a fire sale - that is all.}

I get what your saying Ed! But did they only go to Spurs as part of this last day fire sale or were Liverpool not party to this info which seems highly unlikely? Maybe it would still be unlikely that he would move to Anfield considering the Champions League carrot at Spurs but it would have been nice to know we were in there batting for a quality player. It such a shame Roy came out with his " not the type of player we are looking for!" he must be h##king blind.

The Irish Rover

{Editor's NOte: Real Madrid went directly to the Tottenham Chairman on the last day of the window.}

Maybe because we said we're not looking of players of his quality. I remember Roy saying something like that. If we said we would be interested but at a lower price they probably would have gone to us because we can't harm rm unlike tottenham.

{Editor's Note: Nope. He was due to go to Bayern and it fell through. First call was to Spurs and Levy said yes.}

Ed in your opinion, are we more likely to be looking at a "carlton cole" or an "eden dzeko" with the current transition at liverpool. and are us fans taking out of context things being said from within the club?

{Editor's Note: I image neither.)

I think what this fella meant was not the actual player but there price.

{Editor's Note: I imagine between the two prices then.}

{Editor's Note: Dan Petrescu or Claude Puel.}

Petrescu, Puel, O'Driscoll! ! ! ! ! !

Have you researched these guys' managerial records?They have achieved nothing of any note in football and you would put them in charge of our great club - are you mad?

I suggest Hiddink with JC as player/ assistant manager for 10 years and then JC takes over.

Fabian Treezle

Cant quite work out why we sold albert riera, although he's no C ronaldo i thought that he gave a good balance to the team that finished 2nd the season before last. Also yossi is more creative than lucky jo cole and it was puzzling to see him go. What do you think of Pavlyuchenko? seems to be 4th choice at spurs and scores goals, maybe a cheap option and 20 times more effective than C cole

ha just got THIS from caughtoffside.com as well…:

Manchester United appear to be close to putting in an offer for winger Ashley Young that Aston Villa may feel compelled to consider. The England international appears keen to leave the club and Gerard Houllier will find it hard to keep hold of his top talents given that his side is are struggling in 15th spot.
Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to be ready to sanction a £13m bid to capture a player he hoped to sign back in 2007 before the Watford man moved to the Midlands. The 25 year old wide man has 18 months left on his contract and steadfastly refuses to put pen to paper on a new deal leaving the club knowing that a sale is on the cards.
Ferguson hopes to secure the deal in January but a move may be more likely in the summer as Houllier will feel he will need the talented attacker to help his side salvage something from this season and to help avoid any kind of relegation battle.

Just got this from caughtoffside.com…:

West Ham are ready to make a hopeful offer to re-sign former Upton Park favourite Joe Cole as Liverpool consider selling the England international after a very indifferent start to his Anfield career. Avram Grant hopes to bring 29 year old attacking midfielder back to the club he started his career with as they look to beat the drop after a horrid season thus far.
Joe Cole arrived with a fanfare when he joined on a free after running out his contract at Stamford Bridge but the former Chelsea man got off to a poor start when he was given his first red card of his career on the opening day of the season.
Cole has started just seven Premier League games this season and some sources believe the club is willing to accept offers for his services and West Ham are believed to be ready to offer £5m for a player who cost Liverpool nothing but is on a bumper wage packet that the club would happily have taken off the balance sheet.
Whilst a move to West Ham may be seen as a big step down for a player who just last season won the Premier League title the romantic notion of a return to the club he clearly has a great affinity for may be enough of a pull to see Joe Cole consider a move back to east London.
West Ham co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan have made attempts to bring other high profile signings to the club, such as Thierry Henry and David Beckham, and whilst those moves seem like pipe dreams a move for Cole may well have some chance of success.

Don't expect a great number of dealings in january but hopefully will see some real quality come into the club! I would love to see . .

Elia £5m + Babel
Dzeko £25m
Taarabt £4m

And expect these players to be shown the door

Babel(p/ x)
Poulsen £2.5m (sevilla possily)
Skrtel £8m (Germany/ Russian club)

Then my prediction would be hodgeson to be gone at the end of the season with Didier Deschamps, Frank Rijkaard, Andre Villas Boas (my choice) and they will be backed in the transfer market Red Sox style

Liverpool to sign Dzeko, Nzogbia, Cahil and Young. Whilst Babel, Poulsen, Aquilani, Insua, El Zhar and Degen are off loaded. 100% done deals. Roy has four games to prove himself or he will be replaced by Dalglish till the end of the season, as the targets for the managers position are unavailable at this moment in time.

Hi everyone, I'm a die hard liverpool fan from india. Just wanted to say until roy is at our club, we are gonna be stuck up in mid table. He plays unattractive football, negative tactics and to the media he is a joke. He's a good guy but not a good manager. My view is to sack roy now and appoint Sean O'Driscoll of Doncaster Rovers as an interim manager, it will not take a fortune to get him and plays good football. He surely can't do any worse than roy. Give him a chance if it works, give the job on permanent basis. if he fails we should in the summer try to get Andre Villas Boas, Jurgen Klopp or Didier Deschamps. My pick would be Andre Villas Boas. Then in the summer there should be a massive clearout of the squad(i.e., babel, skrtel, jovanovic, poulsen, konk, etc. ) and buy some young and real talents for the future and a few experienced ones.
To the rumours I've heard that we have made contact with Rosenborg for Markus Henriksen, if its true he can surely fill alonso's shoes in a year or two.
To the ed. what do u think of my view. and I read on this site about racism in liverpool towards the asians a few weeks ago. .Is it reaaly true. ? anyways, this is a great site ed, i've been checking the site everyday for almost 3 years. Good job.

RedIndian YNWA

{Editor's Note: Thank you for your post - it would not be possible to take someone such as Sean O'Driscoll as an interim manager, so expect Roy Hodgson to see the season out. As for any incidents in Liverpool toward Asians I am afraid I cannot help. Society and sport are improving their attitudes in this are generally - but I guess there is always further to go.}

"Why would liverpool sell kuyt. One of the best squad players we have got. He's only behind gerrard and carra for effort. Do some of the people on here watch liverpool play?"

Maybe because he has the touch of a donkey and offers little or nothing to the team, can't beat a player, can't shoot, cant pass, can't cross.

If we want to be in the champions league and winning titles we need rid of kuyt and mediocre players like him.

If running around a bit and putting in effort is all it takes to be a Liverpool player, then were do I sign up?

Amazing how Roy rejected the chance to sign VDV and brought poulson and konchesky. Roy is awful in the transfer market! !

{Editor's Note: VdV was offered to Liverpool at around £18M - not at what Spurs played.}

He was offered to spurs for 18 million too. They got it down to 8. We could of done something similar. Would of been great behind Torres.

{Editor's NOte: Actually they said no to £18 Million too. Real Madrid went back on the last day of the window as part of a fire sale - that is all.}

I've just spent the last three hours of my life composing a diatribe against Hodgson and saying how Sammy Lee was a jockey and the overpaid prima donnas should p*ss off back to Spain etc. . . oh, and the price of going to a game and how I'd love to throw one up Konchesky's mother.
(Which would probably cost the same)
But it transpires that I have been too drunk on xmas spirit to press the right buttons so I'll just say this. . . . . . . .I love you all LFC fans and I hope we all have a happy, no, a VERY happy new year xxx

P.S. Goodbye Roy and Sammy. Good luck at Tramnere

Winger and striker will be the only signing in Jan.

Jovanovic 3m

Honda is a no
Rafa - clueless and useless, no thanks

Ed do you think young is still on the radar i don't rate him personally few people r suggestin that sammy lee is gonna be up the road an kenny more involved till replacement 4 woy in summer i can see huth being brought in as a younger option than sotris also honda and id like 2 see ginac wot u think ed

{Editor's Note: I don't rate Young and I see no point in going for Huth as he offers no more than we have now. Gignac is unlikely to move given that he has only been at Marseille since the summer.}

Anybody else fed up with Hodgson talking down the prospects of the club. He thinks we should be grateful of mid table. Is Hodgson aware that this team (ok with Alonso) finished second playing fantstic football 18 months ago ?

Re above, mate your forgetting Arbeloa, Mascherano, Keane, Hypia and Benayoun! Its also more H&G's than Rafa's fault that these were not sufficiently replaced.

Ed whats ur thoughts on tryin 2 get downing for natural width on left get honda and toivenon huth then when we invest in summer we will have good strength in depth

{Editor's Note: I cannot see Downing being available; Honda is a possibility; Toivonen a possibility - but perhaps not available until the summer; Huth is roughly similar to Kyrgiakos and Skrtel and would probably not offer anything more.}

Would love to see us get some of the players we've been linked with. Ideally would like ins to be:
Santon (10m + babel)
Honda 10m
Suarez 15m (but think it will be Ricky Van Wolfswinkel- not as good but better than what we've got apart from Torres and could be got for about 10m)
Rami 9m
And the outs to be:
babel (part ex)
Konchesky 3m
Poulsen 2.5m
Jovanovic 4m
Johnson 12m (don't want this to happen but think its inevitable)
This isn't based on any sources, just looking at all of the rumours running about and using my head to think which are likely. Total spend of about 18 million, realistic?

Is it possible Joe cole could leave either in january or next summer? I have read he sold his house in London to move to merseyside with his family. Heobviously came to Liverpool for the long term with the right attitude. It is not like Collymore staying in Cannock during his Liverpool career and Pires having a private driver to transport him to Birmingham everyday from London.

{Editor's Note: If he were to leave I expect that Liverpool will need to pay up a considerable amount to the player which would have been agreed when he joined. The same will be true for Jovanovich.}

@ Mr. "Whats your source then clever boy?"

I promise you know i am a different guy, the ed will clarify that for you if necessary i'm sure, however, why do foolish people such as yourself continue to ask for the name of people's sources.
What answer do you expect. Sources ar secret and should stay that way, otherwise there'd be no point in a source, everyone could just ask them or Mr Henry would 'neutralise' them (sorry for the euthamism).
The best answer you can expect t this question is a crude joke like "daddies" or "heinze"! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I didn't mean it like that . .i mean well , everybody seems to be saying it , when it turns out to be not true , and then people say they have a source when liverpool and the owners are keeping things close to there chest. So i don't know whether to believe you or not to believe you.

Frank Nouble will sign for Liverpool on a four year deal in january worth 1.5 miliion rising to 3 million.
Damien Comolli is believed to have picked the player and he is thought to be one of the brightest british talents in the eyes of Comolli.
At 19 years of age Nouble started his football career at Chelsea before moving to West Ham, he has then made 8 appearences for the hammers and has had loan spells at West Brom, Swindon and Swansea.
Nouble is a tall, fast and strong forward who has been likened to Carlton Cole.
Frank Nouble will join the reds on january 6th and then be loaned out to Swansea untill summer.
He will be the reds first signing of January

From a very reliable source at Anfield, the only striker we are signing in January is Keisuke Honda for a fee of £13 million. The other key areas that Comolli and Hodgson are working on are bringing a left winger, right back and centre back to the club. Ever Banega will also be transferring to Anfield this January, negotions are currently in process with a fee believed to be £13.5 million being tabled, with Poulsen leaving for Sevilla for a fee of exactly £2.5 million. Hodgson is looking to bring in Santon to replace the outgoing Johnson. Inter and Liverpool are currently in negotiations with Inter also expressing a desire in bringing in Kuyt, my source has told me that Liverpool are believed to have placed an £6 million bid plus Kuyt for the Right back which Inter have accepted. Glen Johnson will be leaving for Juventus for a fee of £12 million. Comolli is looking to bring in Rami as replacement for Carragher with a fee £9.5 million that has been tabled. As for the left winger, my source has told me that Comolli was desperately trying to bring Hazard to Anfield however the fee quoted from lille was way above what LFC were looking for, instead Comolli and Hodgson are lining up Mata which is also Hodgson's preference, price negotiations for Mata have not yet started. As for all the rumours surrounding Hodgson's career. NESV have firm backing in him and will give him until summer to show his worth. Players leaving will also include Jovanovic, destination has not yet been agreed. Also Babel will not be leaving this January as no other club is willing to match his salary demands, despite Hodgson wishing to offload him.

Transfers in:
Honda
Banega
Mata
Santon
Rami

Transfers out:
Poulsen
Jovanovic
Kuyt
Johnson

This window, and not just summer as many have been thinking is when NESV will lay their mark. As for this so called "transfer warchest of 35M" this is total nonense. My source told me that Tom Werner gave the green light for all the transfer targets 1 week ago, apart from Hazard.

In terms of formation, Gerrard will be playing on the right wing to allow Meireles to play in the centre, Banega was Hodgson's first choice to partner Meireles in midfield but recently having seen Lucas's performances rise he still wishes to bring Banega in to provide a new depth and edge to Liverpool's midfield. Honda will have a free role just behind Torres. My source also said that Torres and Reina have no intention of leaving with the talks held with NESV. Only Johnson and Jovanovic have expressed a real desire to leave.

Your story is commendable and almost inch perfect regarding what we need. . . . . But please don't mind, its too good to be true. . . . .

No sensible club will let go two of its star players of the season. . .eg Mata and Benega

But I dearly wish it was true except Mata. . .I am not sure about Mata. . . I don't have that feeling regarding him that he will go onto become a success in EPL. . .I feel he is a bit light but still he is better than what we have at the moment. . .

But you are talking about a minimum of 65 million pound plus. . . .

Ed what's your thoughts on lee chung yong who plays at Bolton? Was voted the most underrated player of 2010. Could be brought for cheap with boltons money problems. He's good, got pace, decent final ball and works very hard.

{Editor's Note: He is doing well and loving his time at Bolton. They would not want to sell the player, so any you can forget any thoughts about Liverpool picking him up on the cheap I am afraid.}

Jovanovic
Kuyt

6 players are coming in Jan, from a very reliable source: Santon, Honda, Banega, Young, Llorente, Dann.

5 players will be leaving which include Babel, Johnson, Kuyt, Jovanovic, Poulsen.

Off the clubs website -
Liverpool are trying to put a deal together to sign Edin Dzeko, the Wolfsburg striker, but fear they will not be able to match Manchester City's spending power.
The Bosnia striker, 24, has a €40million (£34 million) release clause in his contract, which expires in 2013, and Wolfsburg hope that City's interest will help them receive a figure as close to that as possible.

Wolfsburg had hoped to keep Dzeko until the summer but after a poor start to the season under Steve McClaren - they are 13th in the Bundesliga and out of the cup - they are prepared to let their star player go. Wolfsburg, who won the title in 2009 with Dzeko as top scorer, are open to Liverpool's suggestion of taking players in part-exchange, with Ryan Babel and Daniel Agger the German club's preferred options.

City have confirmed they have been in dialogue with Wolfsburg and it is understood they wanted to put Emmanuel Adebayor into a deal in part-exchange. Adebayor, however, does not want to move to the Bundesliga.

A deal for Dezko would be the biggest of what is set up to be a frenetic transfer window. It opens on Jan 1 and one senior club executive said, "I have never seen anything like it at this time of year. There are agents aggressively pushing players and sometimes several different agents all working for the same player."

Would be nice if we can get him, what do you think ed any chance?

I've been told that we're in the process of signing honda for 11.5 million. No deal has been done yet.

Ed any truth in the 20 million bid for reina from united. I seriously doubt it. {ed's note - he will not be joining United.}

HI

In response to the above article United have signed Anders Lindegaard (deal signed and he joins on 1 Jan) to replace Van de Sar when he retires at the end of this season.

So Reina to stay put where he is, no truth in that rumour.

HI

Just heard that WE will be making 2 signings.

No average players to come in from what i have been told and i quote,
" players to improve and be included in my first 11".

This rumour sounds awesome because it seems like Roy will be adding depth and maybe width to our first team.

Good times ahead scousers

Woy-"I didn't inherit a top four team"-"I haven't worked any differently here than I did in the last six months at Fulham."

In regards to these comments Woys comments to the media have pissed me off so much recently I have turned against him.

First quote- Nice way to install belief into your team Woy you idiot

Second quote- Liverpool are not Fulham and shouldnt be treated as such, If he is treating us like a mid table team then I can see why our results have been so bad!

Time to F* * off now please Hodgson before you do any more damage in january by bringing in more people like Poulsen and Konchesky! ! ! !

I know this is not a rumour but thought all you fans should know what he has been saying to the press today

"Hamsik is not carp. Far from it. But you should know that if you have any knowledge of football.

International games also mean h*ck all, because he is always used in a position that he is not used to. Slovakia also have a pretty s*eep team apart from Hamsik. The last few years he was outstanding in italy for Napoli until he was put on the wings this season.

He is easily better than any of your cm's and would heavily improve you but at the moment he is not in your range. Even with new owners you won't be throwing money around like City and that would be neccessary to get someone like Hamsik.

He also has a lot more attractive and interested clubs than Liverpool (Inter Milan, Manchester United)."

Yes, we do have that financial strength. We're very, very rich indeed. Though, I do expect only one "big" signing in January, since according to NESV we're saving all our nuts for the summer - when we will prepare for an assault on the footballing world, if they choose to exercise their financial muscle.
That's not saying we're going to buy Dzeko, but we could if NESV desired.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

We are very rich. Not quite man city rich but we are rich. I believe we will sign one world class player but I see that coming in the summer when players are cheaper. I think nesv have ruled out this season and plan to start fresh next season (hopefully with a new manager). They are in the process of finding a new manager to my knowledge and convincing star players to stay. Ed you heard anymore about nesv locating a new manager? {ed's note - nothing, but I wouldn't expect anything until the new man is found.}

Reading alot of posts about aguero, yes im sure if he was the top target he could be signed, however tax laws in this country would mean he would have to be paid around the 200k range, again, im sure if they wanted him that bad, it could be possible but. . . . . .steven gerrard the club captain who is on around the 120k a week would expect an improved contract of at least the same or more, torres would expect the same or more, so to sign aguero our weekly wage increase would be around 400 grand, and that is why he won't signing.
is that correct in your veiw ed? {ed's note - exactly right in my view.}

Responding to the following:

GET RAFA BENITEZ BACK IN
AND SIGN DZEKO

If Rafa returned to Liverpool there would be no point in having both Torres and Dzeko at the club, because Rafa prefers to play with one striker.

We could easily get this fella, but what with NESV trying to sell us to the American and Asian markets, I don't think having Skrtl and Hamsik on the team would help. They're both ugly as sin and, most importantly, they're both carp.
Hamsik played against Ireland a few months back and he was terrible. He got destroyed by a midfield two of Glen Whelan and Paul Green - I bet my house most people on this site don't even know who Paul Green is.
Hamsik is just another Aquilani, he's world-class in Italy (which isn't hard) but once a slight breeze blows in, he's getting kicked around the park by players who can't even make the first teams of Stoke and Derby.

The rumours i am hearing are that LFC have all but signed Honda, he wants to join but we need to agree a fee with CSKA, Dzeko is a good possibility as talks began a couple of weeks ago with Wolfsburg, this will be player + cash deal if an agreement can be reached, i've also heard that Comolli has been working hard behind the scenes to sign Hazard, but things aren't going to quickly on this, sticking point is beleived to be the fee + how it will be paid.

Hope this helps Redmen, All the best to all for 2011

A few rumours from the press, Dechamps for manager (no thanks!).
Babel and Kuyt swap deal for Davide Santon (yes please).
Babel and money for Dzeko (can't see it happening).
Fingers crossed for Honda deal - being so quiet on that front makes me think we will get him.
As long as we get a couple of wide players and a striker the team will be fine, I also think N'Zogbia would be a good signing as his attitude problems come from the desire to play in bigger team. No bigger than LFC so would be good and he is a good player, not great just good.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas and happy new year.
