Hello Ed's hope all is well haven't posted for a while!
Ed001, what do you think to Peter Phillips reporting we have had a bid rejected for soldado yesterday? And apparently were set to come in with a bigger one shortly? Seems odd to me as a Suarez replacement. I'm not doubting the guys class and finishing abilities as he's very impressive but his age and the money being talked about suggest to me that he would not be of interest to the owners. Also he is an out and out striker whereas Luis plays anywhere across the front three. I'd like to see a player more in that kind of a mould to replace him personally but they are quite rare at the highest level!

Could giovinco be an option mate?
Cheers {Ed001's Note - I just think he is one of a very limited number of goalscorers that are available this summer. Though I would have thought, if it was true, we could just go in and pay the release clause, rather than mess about with offers. I don't know of any chance of Giovinco arriving.}

Believable20 Unbelievable6

Thanks as always mate

Agree0 Disagree1

Liverpool will drop Sturridge into number 7 position to replace what Suarez does there and Soldado will get the 30 goals (fingers crossed) that Suarez got last year.

Agree1 Disagree7

Could still be an option as I guess we could use Aspas or Sturridge in the '3' with Soldado up front. Or perhaps BR sees Soldado as capable of moving to the '3' as he is very capable technically. Seems a big fee for a 28yo, despite his reputation, though i'm past caring about prices anyway tbh unless they're in danger of crippling us - just get the players in we need for a great first team and squad. Soldado would easily be good enough for us.

Agree0 Disagree1

How old is solalado? Seen somewhere he is 24 or somewhere he is 29, he better not be another falcoa {Ed052's Note - 28}

Agree3 Disagree1

Very few available goal scoters?

Falcao, Lewandowski, Suarez, Cavani, Ibrahimovic, Villa.

There are quite a lot of strikers out there. With Soldado being the only w/o CL football.

Agree1 Disagree1

IF true, anybody else thinking this might be a desperation move for LFC?
Bad move to pay that kind of money for a 28yr old - not much sell on value I feel?
I dunno but i'm kinda feeling like when Torres left - not in stomach and a "rushed" (and untimately bad) move for Carroll . and look how that ended up .
Hope this works out but .

Agree2 Disagree0

Transfers so far this summer:

Villa (Barcelona - Atletico Madrid)
Neymar (Santos – Barcelona)
Cavani (Napoli - PSG)
Higuain (Real Madrid - Napoli)
Tevez (Man City – Juventus)
Jovetic (Fiorentina - Man City)
Gomez (Bayern – Fiorentina)
Negredo (Sevilla – Man City)
Lewandowski is going from Dortmund to Bayern
Suarez will likely go to Real Madrid

This leaves Dortmund, Sevilla, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Spurs all looking for a new striker with the following established goalscorers available;
Soldado, Ibrahimovic, Rooney, Dzeko, Torres, Llorente.

Agree0 Disagree1

Remove Llorente, he is now at Juventus.

Agree2 Disagree1

Llorente is at Juventus

Agree2 Disagree0

Llorente has joined Juventus

Soldado is a proven goalscorer but if he arrives then that means Sturridge will be forced out wide right which he won't like at all, I don't think Soldado will join as he is a limited striker as to where he can play.

Id much rather us try and buy Luis Muriel as he is similar in style to Suarez and a quality player although I understand ownership is a big problem as is it for Erik Lamela who would also be an excellent replacement as this lad is simply amazing and would slot into the RW no problem or another solution is Bernard as he is another quality player and has bags of pace, skill and goals and can play on the RW although he does prefer to play LW, but if we can get 1 of the players mentioned above and bring in Eriksen to play CAM then I think Suarez will be forgotten as the team as a whole would be improved and the 30 goals he got us last season will be provided by the new signings also we have Allen & Borini back who should get above 10 goals & Sturridge will have a full season which will hopefully equal more goals so overall we will be fine.

Agree3 Disagree2

Waste of money and Valencia will be holding out for stupid levels of cash for. If LS goes use money to get a good AM IMHO.

Agree2 Disagree1

Age doesn't matter look at R V P soldado would be perfect

Agree0 Disagree1

Agree with BigD, Muriel or Lamela, or both. Muriel can even play the CAM role (or at least SS). Lamela would likely cost 40 million with third party ownership issues, but at least we probably will have money for it. But the eds have said City is - or were - after him so that would represent another problem for a Lamela signing.

Agree2 Disagree0

Is this guy reliable?

Can I ask why haven't Real Madrid put a bid in an official bid for Suarez yet? What are they waiting for? {Ed002's Note - I imagine after their discussions with his representatives a little over a week ago they were awaiting closure on Higuain and waiting to see how Arsenal get on with their efforts. His representatives wanted everything resolved by last Thursday to avoid any confrontation.}

Believable20 Unbelievable13

Is there a Madrid bid on the agenda eds? {Ed002's Note - There is every chance.}

Agree4 Disagree0

He's Arsenal bound

Agree2 Disagree13

How about we put Arsenal back in their box after their cheeky bid and tell them we want Walcott plus 50 million!

Brian

Agree11 Disagree1

Do you think now that Gonzalo is going to this could speed things up? Real Madrid usually get their man and I don't see them looking at other forward to the best of my knowledge. I just really want Suarez out and do not want him going to another prem club because it hurts.

24 Jul 2013 18:26:38
Ed02. your 'Thursday' info is telling, given 'his' body language today! Hopefully Higuain's move to Napoli will finally bring an end to this sorry saga!

Agree4 Disagree1

Madrids main target is Bale, if they get him they will drop out of the chase for Suarez.I know they're a rich club but £90 m for Bale and £45 m for Suarez?. {Ed052's Note - Nope, they wont}

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Jul 2013 20:32:17
Can people not see what is happening here? Suarez wants to leave the club. The club want to make the best of the situation by getting the most money they can. Suarez wants to go the Madrid. The club ideally do not want to sell him to another EPL club. Suarez & the Club are both using Arsenal to force Madrid's hand to make a better offer quick. Arsenal are therefore being used by Suarez and the club and will end up being the big losers here.

Agree3 Disagree0

24 Jul 2013 21:13:03
80m for Ronaldo
50m for Kaka

in the same window

90m Bale? Maybe
45 to 50m for Suarez? Maybe

im sure they can afford it.

REDAN

Agree2 Disagree1

The reason why madrid have not put a offer in yet is quite simple, as the spainsh league starts later than the premiership they will wait until Suarez has served some of his 6 match ban.

Agree0 Disagree3

IMO it seems unlikely they'd wait out the ban and risk him picking up an injury playing pre-season friendlies

If they are waiting it is because of other reasons i.e. Higuan, Bale

Agree2 Disagree1

Why does it matter if he serves some of his ban or not? If he serves his ban while a Liverpool player he can't play for Madrid or if he signs before his ban he still can't play for Madrid so not really sure what difference it makes?

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Jul 2013 10:19:11
The spanish season start later then premier league, so is ban would go qiucker if he stayed at Liverpool, and the window doesn't shut till sept 2/3!

Agree0 Disagree0

Could it be that real have no intrest in signing him? maybe they see him as more hassle than good {Ed052's Note - Anchellotti did, but that problem was overcome}

Agree0 Disagree0

The ban only applies to the PL, not La Liga. Madrid is probably waiting on the Higuian transfer to conclude, and seeing what Bale would cost them. {Ed052's Note - The ban will apply to La Liga}

Agree0 Disagree0

La Liga starts on the same weekend as the Premier League this year (Sun 18th Aug), so unless they're thinking about signing him on Sat 17th after we've played Stoke, and getting that to count as one of his banned games before they play on the Sunday, then that argument is a bit silly.

Agree0 Disagree0

20m + Wilshere

Agree0 Disagree1

One reason could be that the spanish league start sooner than the english league and therefore this would minimise the impact the ban has on suarez' game time.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jul 2013 16:06:04
Eds Verratti seems to be available with contract talks with PSG being scheduled, apparently some Italian clubs are in for him. If we put in a £20 million bid this would put the cat amongst the pigeons quality, quality player and sure to be a star in the future would be a decent alternative to Eriksen? Can thread balls through and shoot with both feet. {Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware he is not available and they just want to tie him down with an improved contract.}

Few rumours saying we've had a bid for Soldado rejected. but we're coming in with a bigger bid.

GuvTOB

Believable45 Unbelievable29

Suarez wants to talk to the Arse no matter how his parsnips are buttered. Higuain is in Rome to meet with Rafa. Can Solado score us 30 goals a season? If not, we should finish somewhere between Stoke and West Brom despite paying over twice as much for tickets! That's if we can attract him.

Agree1 Disagree4

It's a difficult one he's an out and out CF and If we do manage to sign him it probably means Sturridge RF. Although we could play a 4-2-2-2 with him and Sturridge up top then Coutinho and one other in behind. I'd rather we went for Muriel but I think he could be a good signing.

GuvTOB

Agree0 Disagree2

Why would an in coming striker need to scored 30 odd goals? I don't care who scores the goals for Liverpool asking as they win, them 30 goals can be spread out between Gerrard Sturridge, coutinho, aspas, Henderson, sterling.surely you can see where I'm going with this. Shouldn't be relying on one player.

Agree3 Disagree0

It will take a CF to score 30 plus the others adding their share to keep us where we were last season when Suarez goes. His ability requires a direct replacement.

Agree2 Disagree3

26m? Too much

Agree0 Disagree2

I don't think He needs to be replaced directly. Say we get 50 odd million for him we could try for Lamela who's around 30 and Muriel who would be around 25. I know its very unlikely for Lamela but you never know. Also Udinese are a selling club and Liverpool would be seen as a step up.

That being said I don't know whether our defence is and midfield are capable of carrying an attack like that. Let's say its Sturridge, Coutinho, Lamela, Muriel. They don't really have a penchant for tracking back. And IMO Gerrard-Lucas isn't really a solid partnership defensively.

Agree3 Disagree1

Forgot to sign my name for that last post

GuvTOB

Agree2 Disagree0

Soldado has agreed personal terms with spurs and WANTS to move to london! I know spurs bid was rejected but that was due to valencia's choice of forward fell through, although now valencia are close to securing holder postiga? Which would put the spurs deal on again!

Agree3 Disagree0

I think Agger and Kolo will get the nod for defensive pair before stevie and lucas though.

Agree0 Disagree1

24 Jul 2013 20:38:14
quite the opposite I would have thought. The reality is if Suarez leaves, then our first 11 is effectively weakened compared to last year bearing in mind all of our signings to date have been replacements (Toure/Carragher and Mignolet/Reina) or squad players. Therefore, logically we cannot expect to finish any better than we did last year unless we improve our team.

question for the edds if possible. some of the usual un-reliable websites are claiming that saurez has agreed personal terms of £150k a week with arsenal.
can you please tell me the usual chain of events in the sale of a player? ie. his agent has permission to speak to other clubs? do the agents normally arrange the terms before hand? when is it considers tapping up? cheers {Ed002's Note - His agents and representatives can speak to other clubs and can indeed agree terms, but normally they would not discuss an actual move without some indication from the player's club that they would be willing to sell. Tapping up relates to an approach to the player from another club.

However, the typical process: Clubs will typically informally ask an agent (a) if the player is going to be available, and (b) would the player consider a move to the club. There may be some broad discussion on the sort of deal that would be offered. If the answer is yes, it is then necessary for the club to approach the player's club to ask if they would be willing to sell and if they would grant permission to speak to a player's agent and possibly even the player about actually making a move. This will typically involve either broadly (through an offer) or actually agreeing a fee and responsibility for any significant costs (agents fees etc.). Once this has happened the club will be able to speak to the player's agent and perhaps the player himself to look at the package that will be involved. Many players are looked at and discussed at a high-level with agents and clubs; a subset of those have an offer placed; a subset of those involve discussions with the player's club; a subset of those involve discussions over terms, and; a subset of those go ahead.}

Believable9 Unbelievable18

24 Jul 2013 13:40:58
Whilst all this is certainly true, does the contract clause that there has been so much debate about not allow him to speak to any team that has offered 40 mil or more?
Or does it not quite work like that?

Just wondering

Alvy {Ed002's Note - RTP. Done to death.}

Agree0 Disagree1

Cheers edd, that makes sense now

Agree1 Disagree1

His body language virtually shouted out, "I don't want to be here." Tout him round some foreign clubs rather than let him go to our competitors. With the exception of Everton, all those above us are strengthening with known top quality players. It looks gloomy already for next season. {Ed002's Note - If he'd of scored you would have seen the words on his t-shirt - that would have made it clear for you.}

Agree0 Disagree2

What were the words ed?

Agree1 Disagree0

What did his tshirt say then ed {Ed002's Note - Fina palabras mantequilla sin chirivía}

Agree0 Disagree1

PK

Agree0 Disagree0

Fine words butter no parsnips

Watch this space!

Agree0 Disagree0

Must be a Uruguayan proverb. Like the FFP I went and researched, it's as clear as mud how its interpreted. {Ed002's Note - The FFP is perfectly clear - I wrote a summery for you.}

Agree0 Disagree0

'actions speak louder than words' is the best English translation for it. Not too sure what he's getting at as his actions and words thus far have been suspect, but there you go.

Agree1 Disagree1

I think it's an old English idiom originally. It means "less talk and more action" or "actions speak louder than words" etc

Of course you can interpret it a number of ways, but it sounds to me like he wants to be allowed to move to Arsenal and Liverpool won't let him discuss it with them.

Agree1 Disagree1

The saying means the same as "actions speak louder than words".

LeTrench

Agree1 Disagree1

I read it, Eds. then I went and read it in depth. It seems we are doing our best to follow the rules but those above us are spending freely. Also, how do you interpret the "buttered parsnips?" {Ed002's Note - I have not seen the likes of Arsenal, Everton and Manchester United "spending freely". It seems that there are many who support Liverpool who just want the club to spend money they don't have - regardless of who the club buys.}

Agree2 Disagree1

Actions speak louder than words.

So I guess Suarez is either messaging FSG/Rodgers to buy quality as promised or to Real Madrid to say buy me don't just talk about it.

Agree2 Disagree0

An old English proverb, its usual associations are with honeyed words. The full expression is fine words butter no parsnips (or sometimes soft words . or fair words . ), meaning that words alone are useless, especially flattering phrases or fine promises, and you should judge people by what they do rather than by what they say.

Agree3 Disagree0

I hope they tell him he is going nowhere - he only signed a new contract last year. He will be motivated to play well as it is world cup year - tough it out.

Big Dog Surbs

Agree3 Disagree0

Arsenal don't pay them wages. We haven't accepted a bid

Agree1 Disagree0

Having scored a goal, in a LFC shirt, then unveiling a message reading "actions speak louder than words" - could he not be referring to the act of scoring for Liverpool meaning more than the words we read in the media?

Agree4 Disagree0

Big person Surbs, I've been making this point to many people myself.
Regarding the vegetable-related proverb, maybe he's saying it to Liverpool fans? ie don't judge me by what I say, judge me by what I do on the pitch for you (unless he meant last year and now we should be thankful for him and let him go blah blah.) Who knows, the guy's mind has more ups and downs than 2 similarly weighted kids on a see-saw in a kid's playground.

Agree1 Disagree1

Or could it be, don't believe the WORDS of the press. Watch my ACTIONS as I kick off next season as a Liverpool player ;-)

Chubby Alonso

Agree3 Disagree0

Thanks for answers. It was the meaning behind Suarez using it that baffled me. As for spending, both the Mancs and the Arse are in the market offering big money for big targets, Suarez being one. I did say on another post, apart from Everton. The financial situation does concern me. High ticket prices, massive sponsorship, huge international fan base (shirt sales in Indonesia and Oz would add a few quid) and billionaire owners. Yet we are skint. I have been following the club since the second division and this reminds me of the times the board refused Shanks money.

Agree0 Disagree1

Let him go for £40m, he wants to play for a big club in the champions league, who can blame him. All the clubs above us, including Everton seem to be active in the transfer market so we need to get a move on or we will once again be left behind by those above us.

Agree2 Disagree0

You are saying that teams above us have been more active

Liverpool have signed 4 players (toure, alberto, aspas, mignoet)

Everton have signed 4 players (delofeu, alcaraz, kone, joel)

Manchester City have signed 4 players (negredo, fernandinho, navas, jovetic)

Chelsea have signed 4 players (schwarzer, van ginkel, cuevas, schurlle)

Tottenham have signed 2 players (paulinho, chadli)

Manchester United have signed 1 player (varela)

Arsenal have signed 1 player (sanogo)

We have been as active or more active than all of our rivals and I would say we've probally got the best value for money out of who webe signed out of the top seven

Agree0 Disagree1

I don't see there being a big difference between this and tapping up. they may as well speak to the player!

Is there any word on central defenders. or any defenders ED's? All the rumors are about attackers or attacking midfielders. {Ed002's Note - There is nothing new at this time.}

Believable7 Unbelievable9

We could do with shifting Skrtel to allow us space in the squad for a better CB (and to contribute towards paying for one of course!)

Eds, does anyone look like they are going to bid for Skrtel? {Ed002's Note - There is nothing new that I am aware of.}

Agree1 Disagree1

From a Source in Liverpool: Old player probably the best passer ever. :)

Coates is on the way out together with Skertl.
Agger is certain to stay. But if a BIG OFFER from Barca comes in it can be considered. Agger have told Liverpool that Barca is the only club he want to play for outside Liverpool.

Hangeland is a target. But due to his age and that he want to be in the starting eleven is a issue.
3 Other hot targets are mentioned.
Wisdom will be loaned out to a club. But only to a PL club if we get a new defender in. Rodgers wants Wisdom to get top experience as a Central defender. If we don't buy a new CD. Wisdom will be loaned out to a Championship club because he can them be brought back on short notice.

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Jul 2013 11:23:04
Ok thanks Ed02.

Kit, Agger also asked to hear what Monaco were going to put forward so I believe it's reasonable that he would be willing to listen to double your wages offers also (he'd probably still say no to Chelsea & City though as he's a good man I think double your money offers from abroad).

Also Hangeland wasn't a target as his contract ran out this very summer when he was free so I don't see us having any interest.

Agree1 Disagree0

Hangeland signed a contract extension in March.

Agree1 Disagree1

Sean:

Im aware of Agger and Monaco. But this was just the Agent sounding it out because of Agger is close to 30 year.
Agger is a BIG Liverpool fan. His 2 choice will be Barca.

Hangeland was availeble at a good price, but Kolo coming in may stoped the transfer.

Evening Eds, thanks for all of your hard work. Used to be one myself so I know the score on that front. I just wondered if anyone knew any more about Reina and if he will go on loan or if the club are now pushing for a permanent deal?

Also when is he due to meet up with the rest of the squad?

Thanks so much

Cobster {Ed002's Note - Reina is beyond when he should have joined up with the squad C and is in process of completing his loan to Napoli. Napoli don't want a permanent deal.}

Believable10 Unbelievable5

Liverpool are now looking for a permanent deal!

Agree0 Disagree2

What are your thoughts on the Reina transfer Eds? It unsettles me slightly as although he has been erratic in the last two seasons he still has what every top goalkeeper needs- vast experience. He also seemed to be a popular figure in the team and a decent motivator. Mingolet was not even are first choice to become our first choice!

Long live the (lion) King {Ed002's Note - Reina wants out and Napoli are a good short term solution. Next season Atletico will be back on the scene as Courtois will be leaving.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Atletico makes sense I think his father played for them and now his best friend David Villa has just signed and with courtious going back to CFC I think they will be the likely destenation for sènior Reina

Cobster {Ed002's Note - It is, thanks.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed's surely if we loan him to Naploi and he comes back next year. hopefully after SM has had a blinding 1st season!

Will he not have presumably devalued, with clubs knowing he is not our number one choice and we don't really want him from a financial perspective.

Thanks in advance

Agree3 Disagree0

Is the reason they don't want a permanent deal because they have an extremely talented youngster coming through?

Agree1 Disagree0

Reina wants to go back to Spain. With Courtois being only on loan at Madrid, and Valdes rumoured to be leaving Barca he obviously thought this would be the summer to leave, and him and BR have obviously been honest with each other (hence us getting a new keeper).
But with both of those stating that they will be staying put for another year, he can either compete with Mignolet for a year or get a loan somewhere for a year. Rafa going to Napoli obviously made Napoli an attractive option for him.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Jul 2013 09:02:12
@ Ben Rose, yes the reason is because they have a talented youngster coming through and he is currently Brazil's Number 2 keeper called Raffael, bought from Santos {Ed002's Note - Interestingly was watched on behalf of Liverpool last year.}
