Afternoon Eds and fellow Liverpool supporters {YNWA}, EdS with all the rumours about Brendan rogers Liverpool future position, if he were to be relieved of duties, in your opinion when will tis take place?

Thanks

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I understand from Macca that Ancelotti has been talking with the club. I don't know the detail. I also can't predict who would take his place. Over the summer the club could have opted for change and settled everything for a while by taking Jorge Jesus for a couple of years - probably my choice. Now that option is not available. One needs to step back and be objective about change and not make it just for "the hell of it" or whatever - it is a big deal and initially disrupting. I see the craving for the "bootroom" approach as unfounded. I see the clamoring for Klopp as "without any sensible foundation". I see any change to simply appease the fans as potentially a "shot in the foot". I would have moved him on this past summer - as I have explained. Then there were options. Doing it now i way more risky; way less options exist.

Blitzed a little but there are a number of managers with growing or well respected reputations I can think of. Normally I would avoid naming names but given that for most of the rest of the day the posts will end up on the Other page, as a special treat I will. One real standout right now is Italian Roberto Stellone and another is German Roger Schmidt. In France, both Willy Sagnol and Olivier Echouafni have growing reputations. Although over the limit age wise, Philippe Montanier is gaining a lot of respect. Spain, the stand out attracting attention is Diego Simeone. In Russia there are people expecting Murat Yakin to move on. The Netherlands has the likes of De Boer and Phillip Cocu. Elsewhere Laudrup, Petrescu, Hutter and Martinez are well thought of.

My advice is listen to those who have a rational opinion - not the knee jerk reaction folk. There are Liverpool supporting Eds trying to buy sniper rifles on eBay. It won't work. It needs managing, and it needs managing well, I have told Ed001 that he needs to listen to someone older and much better looking - and have offered my services.}

I agree Ed. He should have been kicked out over the summer. Now we are in the predicament I new we would end up in. Rodgers not the answer, never was. Its a sinking ship ATM and nothing will change till Rodgers go's. But now our options are limited and we will prob end up with big Sam.

24 Sep 2015 00:19:21
My choice would be Schmidt has done well in the last couple of seasons. But I think the owners will want to go for a proven coach after initially going for someone not proven in Europe. Rogers was never going to work it showed in his first season when tactically he was out of ideas and was alienating certain players. My hope is as ed02 has said that FSG take a rational approach and don't make the situation worse then it already is.

Hi ed002,I've been a Liverpool fan for forty two years.I've seen the best of Liverpool and the worst in that time.I know you say about no knee jerk reaction, what springs to mind is Alex Ferguson at utd when he almost got the sack,ahh bless Mark Robbins!!!At utd at the time you could see what Ferguson was trying to do. I cannot see what Br is doing. AT ALL.in two years we have needed a better defense than we have,BR didn't strengthen in the summer and it's square pegs in round holes in midfield.surely when is enough ENOUGH.I know there's a snowballs chance in he'll of getting him but my choice. wait for it. GARY NEVILLE. I know.Thanks

24 Sep 2015 02:33:08
Great read ed002. I just had one question though, on the flip side of the story, when do you sack him? Wait longer in hope of results/performances to improve? and what if they dont? what if we are bottomg 10 come christmas? you sack him then? There is simply no evidence of any improvement; on the contrary its the same diabolical performances against increasingly weaker opposition every week.
To be perfectly honest, I believe the players themselves have a big responsibility in all this and it is not just Rodgers, but simply because I can't see a whole team falling out of form suddenly, it could only mean the manager is losing favor with the players.
So for me in the end it only leads to one thing - a big risk indeed but perhaps a risk worth taking? just my take on it

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - As we are told that there have been discussions between Ancelotti and the club one can only assume that the decision has already been made. Under such circumstances the longer it drags out the more pressure there is on everyone and the more toxic the situation will become.}

24 Sep 2015 10:50:07
I actually think Neville has the capabilities of a great manager. Natural leader, great communicator, knows how to hold a room's attention, and has a wonderful technical insight into the game. He wouldn't use that insight to overcomplicate things though, he played under a manager who kept it relatively simple but effective.

I would really like Ancelotti for the pure pedigree he has in football and won everywhere he has been, now i'm not saying he can do win the premiership in his first season with us or even his second and i won't expect him to, but if he is given the money rodgers has had over the seasons i can see him putting together a good solid foundation with the team but it could also see fan favorites go i.e lucas. Ed is right in the sense of that i can't see FSG going for a stab in the dark with a no mark and they will go for proven. Klopp seems to be the fans favourite but for me personally i would prefer ancelotti. or in a dream world of ancelotti manager klopp assistant lol

Ed002, I'm quite surprised at how much you've gone along with this. I don't mean to perhaps set you two against each other or create 'sides', but Is Macca someone you typically trust for credibility?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have no reason to doubt what Macca has said about Ancelotti.}

24 Sep 2015 14:53:28
That's very interesting then. I'm definitely going with you and Macca on this one then, I reckon my own source has got it wrong.

People like Aly Moreno on ESPN FC are adamant he won't come because 'we're a very average team, a very average club, why would he want to get in that 'mess'.

Do you think he's got a point? I don't think he's looking at the entire picture that well.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Sep 2015 16:14:55
Alejandro Moreno is an idiot. Pure and simple. The worst analyst at ESPN. I love listening to Steve Nicol, even though he may be a bit, well different. But when LFC gets brought up, the response is always this is not good enough for my club.

I was thinking the other day how Ancelotti would line us up. It's simple really if you think beck to 2005. He had a strong spine in the midfield. A mixture of ball playing brilliance and tenacity. A great number 10 and two top goalscoring strikers. Yeah, they didn't win. They didn't have Stevie or Dudek or a lions heart but they destroyed us in 45 mins. I actually see similarities in their team and our best 11. We just need a strong intelligent leader.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Sep 2015 00:16:32
I like listening to Nicol too because he tells it how it is, even has a pop at pundits in the UK who are too scared to let their true feelings known. Don't mind Burley too because he's entertaining, and he's always a bit more optimistic about Liverpool than Moreno. Hislop is pretty good but he can be very fickle with his predictions. I don't even mind Moreno but sometimes he fails to grasp the bigger picture. E.g. when we signed Firmino, he's like, 'Yeah. so. they reckon this guy will replace Saurez a striker? Nope! He's no Suarez!'. I shook my head because Firmino was certainly not bought as a guy to fill this Suarez void at striker. And calling us an average team on paper? Come on. This squad has plenty of quality in it providing they have a manager who knows what to do with them.

A lot of people get slated on here for not supporting the team or slagging them off. But at the end of the day, football is a hobby. And hobbies are supposed to be fun. Watching this week in week out is not fun, and I completely understand frustrations. If we were a team that normally fights relegation, it's fair enough, it's fun going away to big team and holding out for a draw.

Carlisle will be ecstatic with their teams performance. I get that Liverpool have more expectation than we should really. But when a hobby gets less fun, people lose interest and get fed up. It is time for a change and it can't come soon enough for me now. Players will lose interest too if we can't string performances together and will leave and will put us further behind.

I know I will get some abuse for this. But three 1-1s in a row against teams we should be beating, preceded by 2 bad defeats is just not okay now.
I will continue to support the team no matter what, but I want changes now.

Well said, people pay money to be entertained and I always believed that we are customers to this franchise. I still remember Hodgson's last home game and the attendance was so bad FSG had to react. If fans think that they should grieve every weekend after paying so much then I feel sad for them. I have stopped watching games these days and I didn't buy anything as a protest as a customer. I hope FSG can make a decision which they should have had done in the summer. Yes fans do lose interest.

Agree5 Disagree0

24 Sep 2015 06:05:30
Liverpool's franchise in Australia has taken a massive nose dive since Suarez left and was never replaced with a player well worth watching, let alone a player you would pay to watch.
To put it simply, why would Australians bother seeing what Liverpool dish up these days? When we can just as easily watch Barca, Madrid, better EPL clubs, even PSG. That's where all the best players are these days.
FSG have to wake up and smell the rot that is Rodgers. Or it will be too late. Soccer/football is the fastest growing sport in AUS and FSG are missing the boat big time. Man city are growing quicker than Liverpool and I never thought I would see that. sorry for the long rant.

In Malaysia and Thailand it was really bad. Few years back when King Kenny took the team to Far East tour Malaysia and Thailand were packed. Now with Stevie gone, Kenny gone, Carra gone, Torres, Suarez, all gone, the stadium only have 40% filled. It is sad. I see more Chelsea, City and Man Utd young fans now than Liverpool. Here in Far East nobody rates Rodgers, it was just like the days where Hogdson took over. You should hear how other fans humiliate LFC fans here, so that is why nobody likes to admit they are LFC fans. If they did, they will blame Rodgers and his tactics. All my friends don't watch the games anymore. We still talk about the team but nobody watches these games. We rather have a good weekend than pay to feel miserable.

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Sep 2015 10:42:39
The problem isn't with Aussie LFC fans jumping ship, they're a generally loyal bunch and have maintained arguably the best support for any global team in Australia. We had no problems selling out two games after an average year, nor with selling out the MCG following a 7th placed finish. The problem is with young kids/new football fans following City, but they're still a long way off. City couldn't even sell out a stadium that holds 25-30000.

I think we're at a really crucial stage, the shine of history is fading, been a long time since Istanbul and PL title. one good thing was the run in during 13/14 but departure of Surrey, Gerard and Sterling has hit hard with such a dismal time since. We're clearly in danger of losing the younger PL supporter around the world to Man City/Chelsea and even Man Utd, and that's a crucial piece of the income puzzle if we don't want to slip into being a mid tier side.

We need a top top coach to mould this side into what it has the potential to be, I fear a poor decision now and a few more years in the wilderness could be nearly terminal.

I personally believe that if rodgers is given the proper amount of support from the club and some more money to improve on transfers he will do a fantastic job. He is an excellent coach and if you stick by him he will be bring results. He does have a lot of good qualities and character but I feel that Liverpool haven't really given him a proper chance. Rodgers has had all the time and money to build a consistently challenging top 4 team and has failed miserably.

Been reading site with keen interest(as per usual I may add) trying to digest what Macca has had to say recently. I don't really wanna try comment too much but would like to ask a question to ed002 if he/she about to answer it? The talk seems to be Ancelotti will be looked at if results don't improve now whilst I don't want to ask you if that a viable option(don't really wanna pit you in a position where you may disagree with Macca and get endless abuse) my question is as you have seen him first hand in charge of your club(Chelsea) what are his strengths and weaknesses as a manager? Would he in your opinion be a good fit at lfc?? Many thanks for all your hard work & dedication us fans really appreciate what insights, however small you guys share with us all.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Macca has said that Ancelotti has himself already met with Liverpool - assuming that to be correct I would assume it has gone beyond being directly related to results - and there is always this general misunderstanding or misinterpretation with the oft used "coach x has four games to save his job" type attention grabber. I imagine if you could bring yourself to Google +liverpool and +"red alert" you would get some fun items come up.

I answered earlier about the viability - Ancelotti took time off to address a medical issue and to complete a side project which is in hand. For me, the timing doesn't look good for him. We'll see if he can be persuaded it is something that would be good to do now.

I am not that much of a fan to care about tactics, who the players are and who the coaches are. I can say that he is happy to take a back seat (not in all cases, but most) over transfers. He is a bright guy with a dry sense of humour but comes across as a bit miserable. There are no major language issues as he speaks good English.

If he were to go to Liverpool, it might work. Probably not a natural fit, and I think there are better solutions out there. But there are certainly worse solutions.}

23 Sep 2015 07:03:05
Americans always have contingencies because that is their nature. Back in 2013, they were rumored to be looking at Frank De Boer just in case BR screws up and BR went on to produce one of the most prolific season finishing 2nd. So I find it odd that FSG had nobody in mind just in case BR screws up like he did last season. I am sure (hope is probably a better word) Klopp is in their frame of mind too.

Agree1 Disagree1

23 Sep 2015 07:20:57
I'd say just comparing Ancelotti's honours list with Rodgers' tells you what a huge upgrade this would be.
Only a couple of things against Ancelotti:
1. He doesn't show the same passion or excitement as a Klopp, and might not rejuvenate the crowd in such a way, although obviously the results he would bring would over time
2. Carlo is getting on! He's the wrong side of 55 now so, really, we'd have to see this as a medium term appointment at the most.
Don't get me wrong though, I'd be over the moon if he came!

Agree1 Disagree2

23 Sep 2015 01:20:31
Ed002, just some hypothetical questions for you, you don't have to answer if you don't want too.

Would it be fair to say that the owners may wait until the end of the season for Carlo Ancelotti should he need it?

Secondly, regardless of results, would Rodgers be kept in place until the end of the season or would an interim manager be likely should results continue to be poor?

Thanks in advance.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have absolutely no idea, sorry.}

23 Sep 2015 02:14:49
Ed, can you please explain this to me? Liverpool gave their full backing to Rodgers only a relatively short time ago (after the review), so something is not adding up if the Ancelotti interest is NOT a direct reaction to poor results. Also, didn't you imply to me a couple of days ago that there would be legal ramifications if Liverpool spoke to another dude while Rodgers still has a job? Thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, what I said was there would be legal ramifications if this so called "agreement" existed for Klopp to take over in November. But as I explained, it doesn't.}

23 Sep 2015 02:50:01
eds, who are better solutions than Ancelotti?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is no point discussing that if this has already gone as far as we are being told.}

Haha, thanks Ed. I don't think Honigstein meant it like that though. I think what he meant was that Liverpool would sack Rodgers around November if things were still ordinary, *then* approach Klopp. But it's irrelevant now.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have explained already, he said that was taken out on context. You seem to be trying to make things up to fit in with his words.

There is significance in "November", but for other reasons.}}

23 Sep 2015 08:54:20
But then again, how is that legally different to what they're supposedly doing now with Ancelotti? Because if he's interested, he'll say, 'when do I start?', and Liverpool will then need to give him a useful time frame. basically an 'agreement' to start in November, December, or whatever.

{Ed002's Note - It is completely different.}

"Americans always have contingencies"

Like when they sacked Kenny? I remember Roberto Martinez spending a week in Boston with his press officer Dave Whelan giving us daily updates followed by Brendan being appointed after he'd already ruled himself out of the job.

If there is going to be a managerial change, it needs to be better structured and more decisive than last time. There was no contingency last time.
