Eds any updates on our interest/ pursuit of Ricardo Pereira?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I would put him out of your thoughts for now.}

23 Jun 2017 23:14:30
Thanks, any reason why we're not targeting him considering he's available and would greatly improve us defensively.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I have explained over and over.}

24 Jun 2017 00:47:48
Sorry I've searched it and all I've seen is that Spurs have talked to him. Thanks for your help anyways.

Regarding the left back situation, have we shown any interest in bertrand? From what i can gather mendy if the prefered choice but doubtful, tierny don't want to move, sessegnon is out of the picture and robertson of hull. Is there any updates reguarding any of these?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - not now and no.}

23 Jun 2017 16:58:24
Hi Eds, has there been any advances in negotiations with Monaco regarding Mendy. I know a while ago one of you said there was very preliminary talks being held. Who are our LB options and is Mendy our first choice. Cheers Eds.

{Ed002's Note - No more than an enquiry.}

23 Jun 2017 21:22:37
Not true a offer was on the table and we spoke to the player and offered him 40% of his wage.

Apparently Arsenal are now willing to sell us Oxlade-Chamberlain fella for £25m due to new Premier League wage rules. Anything in this boyos?

23 Jun 2017 14:39:37
I would rather go for gelson martins if we really need another winger. Getting OX means another sturridge. Talented but poor fitness!

Agree7 Disagree10

23 Jun 2017 14:50:38
thats ok Red, only Martins might cost double what they want for the Ox, let's go for a left back .

Agree12 Disagree0

23 Jun 2017 14:52:32
Ox has played all over the pitch last season. Even he doesn't seem to know where he plays.

Agree7 Disagree3

23 Jun 2017 14:53:45
Ox more versatile than Martins though. Good option off bench too.

Agree9 Disagree9

23 Jun 2017 15:10:52
Surely if he's going to be a squad player at Liverpool he wouldn't join that's the main reason why he's been thinking about leaving Arsenal. Can't see that move happening to be fair.

Agree15 Disagree4

23 Jun 2017 15:14:10
I think people too negatively overreact to Oxlaide Chamberlain. He's the kind of veratile quality that's good to have in your squad when injury holes need to be plugged. And yes, he's talented. Who knows, he could go on to profoundly improve under Klopp.

Agree14 Disagree6

23 Jun 2017 15:16:55
If we were to get Ox I would think it would be for RWB and cover on the wings if needed.

Agree2 Disagree4

23 Jun 2017 15:23:42
Pros : we have great forwards now with Mane, Firmino, Salah likely starters, but our imoact subs are Sturridge, Origi, Ings, Solanke. all strikers. The only natural wingers we could bring on (assuming Coutinho plays midfield) are Ojo, Woodburn and Wilson who are all more prospects rather than proven yet

Cons : Ox is hardly a game-changer, should we really be paying that much for someone when we can easily play Origi, Coutinho, Lallana, Firmino or even Solanke out wide, and then we also end up blocking Ojo and Wilson/ Woodburn from getting game time and developing.

Overall I would rather we focussed on fixing LB and CB.

Agree22 Disagree1

23 Jun 2017 15:31:27
Ox is a poor player and is not better than those we already have in every position, even in goal so sorry he's not needed and we already have a jack of all trades in Milner. If we have 20m to burn, might as well address the FB issues in the first 11 instead of buying a perrenially woeful (and injured) reject form Arsenal, where players bar Sanchez, are forever stagnating.

Agree4 Disagree4

{Ed002's Note - Yeah but Klopp wants him.}

23 Jun 2017 15:42:27
OMGosh Zimbo, you did it! And in pre-season! GO ON MY SON ;)

Agree2 Disagree1

23 Jun 2017 15:54:23
he is can stay fit, while i do not think he is excellent at all, i think he would play a better game with the way we are playing football and we do need players that can make a difference from the bench, but i agree he wouldn't make my starting 11.still think he would actually surprise a few with his contribution.

Agree2 Disagree5

23 Jun 2017 16:10:30
Haha mate, I assume you're referring to me finally spelling Lallana right!

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Jun 2017 16:22:08
I don't see the point in signing him. He's not better than any of our wingers, he's not a full back and he's rotten in centre midfield (he made Scotland look world class. ) and that's not even going into his injury issues, I wish Jurgen didn't have the Klopp's for him.

Agree3 Disagree2

23 Jun 2017 16:28:06
Assume this is related to the issues Arsenal will cause themselves if both Sanchez and Ozil sign big money contracts? Maybe fishing for a taker?

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Jun 2017 16:36:59
Not a bad player and 25 million in this current market for an England international. Not bad if you ask me, great addition if it comes through.

Agree5 Disagree4

23 Jun 2017 16:41:25
A good addition imo if we get him. Can play in a number of positions and is very energetic.

I assume he wants assured game time though ed? Something I am not sure we can offer him more than what Arsenal are currently doing.

Do you think he will come mate or more likely to sign a new contract and stay?

Agree3 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any assurances. I can tell you about the interest but I have no idea where it will lead.}

23 Jun 2017 16:47:39
Ok ed cheers.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2017 17:08:57
If this transfer happens, I really don't think Klopp sees Oxlade-Chamberlain as a starter anywhere. If anything, Ox's ability to slot in several positions makes him useful as a substitute or replacement for an injured player. And maybe play regularly in the league Cups games. If Ox thinks, or is made to think, that he'll start in the first 11, he probably has a surprise coming. Klopp likes the athletic and energetic type of players and he is just strengthening his bench. And I'm sure, next season, he wants to look over at his bench (when there's a need to close out games) and see experienced players like Ox sitting there, and not TAA, Ejarie and Woodburn, who are still not ready.

I was reading a bit of academic fantasy, a while back. The article said that if all the EPL games had ended after 60 minutes with halves of 30 minutes each, we would have won the title and Chelsea would have finished third. Of course this statistic is useless, but still indicates that we don't close out halves/ games very well. A stronger bench is part of the solution. Something that many have already pointed out on these pages many times.

Agree3 Disagree1

23 Jun 2017 17:17:54
I can't understand the interest in Oxlade-Chamberlain at all. Surely, we have Lallana, Wijnaldum, Firmino (if we buy a main striker), plus Sturridge, Ings and Solanke. all of whom could make an impact from the bench and play in a variety of positions!
Let's concentrate on tightening up that wobbly defence and getting a left back!

Agree4 Disagree1

23 Jun 2017 17:53:56
OX should be strict NO except if we want to give some company to Sturridge and keep giving the medical staff work.

Martins seems to be super duper on You Tube but not sure how it will pan out but overall looks better than OX.

If we have money to throw, Auba and Martins with one decent left back and Milner on right.

No CM because, Klopp believes the game has to be played only in opposition half.

We will try to outscore than to try and concede less.

Cheers.

Agree1 Disagree5

23 Jun 2017 18:36:28
People need to try and stop comparing the interest in The Ox with the need for defensive reinforcements. I highly doubt the clubs plan is 'one or the other'. I imagine Klopp has his priorities in each position and will go for them accordingly. we've known for a while the priorities are LB, Winger, CB, Striker and then another Gigi/ lallana type midfielder, hence our interest in Keita and The Ox. Let the window run its course and trust Klopp will find the right players to fill each of the above positions.
Cheers.

Agree7 Disagree0

23 Jun 2017 19:46:18
He probably wouldn't start, but for all you saying he isn't good enough. think of all the times last year when we had injuries. He needs work and i do not think he could ever be world class but he does have pace, he does pass the ball often when he should, he would probably suit our play and we need someone who could come on as a sub via injury or whatever and make an impact. i think he could.

Agree1 Disagree1

23 Jun 2017 20:29:44
Keita and Ox are not at all comparable, Keita is a quality centre midfielder who has held his own against some of the best performers in Europe, Ox is a jack of all trades who doesn't have skillset to be a centre midfielder and has been exposed for his shortcomings time and again.

Agree1 Disagree2

24 Jun 2017 01:16:00
We know klopp likes to pick a team according to the opposition and we know he likes interchangeable, versatile players. No surprise he likes ox at 25mil. Sure a lb and cb will sign either way. For 25mil I think it'd be a good signing. Not so important now we have salah.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Jun 2017 07:48:26
We have Wini and Milner who can cover the positions he covers, no need for a 25m back up. That money should be spent on a full back.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2017 10:29:06
Of would be quality on the half turn as back up for Gini and lallana, as we struggled with, one of them two out when can was playing more advanced last season, he would be quality and can fill rb and rw.

23 Jun 2017 06:28:23
Ben Chillwell had a good game for the England U21's last night. Do the Ed's know if we still have an interest in the lad?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - still monitoring him but he is happy to stay at Leicester for now.}

23 Jun 2017 15:35:03
There are better ones than Chilwell out there. Also, they say Ghoulam who we are linked to for ex., can't defend yet we are monitoring Chilwell who is actually worse, defensively. I would prefer Ghoulam in thayt case as he is proven both in France, Serie A, CL and internationally with Algeria at the World Cup.

22 Jun 2017 22:38:59
Ed001, with Salah signed now, who do you expect or what area do you expect us to push for next?

You've mentioned Mendy is a first choice LB and LB is an area we need to purchase. Is he the next big move?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - I expect the centre back mess to be sorted out with regards to VVD next to be honest.}

23 Jun 2017 05:23:48
U really expect us to move for VVD after all that has happened? LFC are treading on dangerous ground here, unless VVD forces the move himself. BUt it will still cost us north of 60 million and VVD is simply not worth such a big investment.
BUt I would not complain of Bertrand came as part of our annual Saints lottery package. VVD and Bertrand for a combined 80 million has a much better ring to it and solves 2 problem positions for us.

Agree4 Disagree18

23 Jun 2017 06:04:13
Cheers Ed. How do you envisage that to play out?

Also what's your opinion on the LB area. Surprised it's not focused on more? Had Milner done a much better then expected job that it's just not a priority? Are we about to spend north of £90m on two players (plus a tribunal fee soon) leaving very little to buy class in that position?

Thanks for your opinion on this.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea, hopefully they will find some middle ground with Saints, as the player will otherwise be left in limbo. He has made it clear he wants to leave the club, which we have to accept is our fault, so we should do whatever it takes to set the matter straight with Southampton and get the FA off our back. It really comes down to what Southampton want to do, if they want to stand their ground and hold on to him, then we can step away and let the club and player sort things out. It is a difficult situation.

Personally I would prioritise the left back, as I think it is the biggest need we have right now. I do expect there to be one signed this summer, just worried it will be a make-do option, such as Robertson.}

23 Jun 2017 07:32:53
Cheers again ed appreciate your thoughts on the matter. Enjoy your weekend.

Agree7 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - thanks mate you too.}

23 Jun 2017 08:45:16
If we get a good left back and no one else, I would be pleased with this window.
Wish we didn't create the VVD mess, but we've to do right by him. It's "morally" right.

23 Jun 2017 11:08:30
Do you no Ed who .........

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - This has been done to death.}

23 Jun 2017 10:33:32
Morning Ed, out of interest, if we do buy a make-do lb do you envisage Milner staying first choice?

Thanks mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no.}

23 Jun 2017 12:59:20
Ed do you expect milner to be used as the back up lb or will he be considered for a spot in mid field?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that depends on what we need at the time.}

23 Jun 2017 13:33:11
Dear Ed, I know situations change everyday but given what you know, is Robertson more likely than VVD now?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i would say yes..

23 Jun 2017 13:04:14
I was asking Ed 001 but no problem Ed002.

Agree2 Disagree4

23 Jun 2017 15:39:30
I'm with you Ed re VVd and the LB situation. We have to do what is right for VVD as we put him in the mess he is now in as he wants to come here and has no interest in playing for the Saints even tho, every man and his dog (at Saints) knew he would be off this season. I say we place a bid for him and let he and the Saints sort it out cos at least, we tried to smooth things out. As for the LB, t=it will be either a case where Millie stays at LB or we get a make-do in Robertson who as you say, is just pants with no defensive quality and has no offensive end product.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool know what the price is to them and even if Southampton would deal with Liverpool, the club has made it clear in astatement that the owners forced the club to put out. Another u-turn might be an embarrassment too far for Liverpool and the owners. Klopp likes Robertson but I doubt he is first choice. So like at left back, left wing and centre back the club need to look to other options. And there are plenty.}

23 Jun 2017 15:52:30
Sorry ed, put out or pull out? Im not trying to be funny mate either.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Surely it is clear - the club "put out" a statement.}
