tv say Porto have recieved a bid from a Premier League club for Christian Atsu. I remember us being linked last summer, any chance it's us?

Hi Ed002.
I know you don't like talking money, but when you say Papadopolous would be very expensive, are we talking a figure in excess of 20m euros? In your view, can Liverpool afford him?

Personally, I don't see this one happening. Also, ed, since De Vrij (staying at Feyenoord) and Alderwerld (moving to Roma) are no longer options, what other centre back options may be considered?

Lastly, how much substance is in the Begovic-LFC links. Can you see a deal being done?
Thanks. {Ed002's Note - The asking price is more than €20M as you say. Begovic was looked at, deemed too expensive but with his move to Manchester likely off, is a perhaps.}

eds what is the likelyhood of kyriakos papadopoulos joining?

cheers have a good day.

lakred {Ed002's Note - Manchester City and Chelsea have already been in talks over the player. Other clubs are interested, probably including Dortmund and Liverpool, but he will not be cheap. Chelsea were surprised how high the asking price is - which given his injury problems makes them nervous.}

Believable10 Unbelievable14

He is too big a risk. I would go with Agger and Kelly with Toure as back up

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, because Chelsea never overpay for players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lovren if this fails

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed 002 is a filthy chelsea person {Ed002's Note - Nice to see you embarrassing the club - did they advertise for cocksuckers?}

Agree0 Disagree0

No need for that is there Ed 2. You do a great job - along with all the other Ed's - in answering people questions, quite often repeated ones at that which must drive you mad!

Keep up the good work guys, I really enjoy this site.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eds002, I find it unfair that my points calling people cocksuckers get blocked but yours get through :P

Seriously though, if a price tag is making Chelsea nervous that is a huge concern

I can see emmanuel emunike A̶̲̥̅ lfc player next season. Is there any interest ed? {Ed002's Note - Emenike and Fenerbahce are in discussions to figure out a deal. I am not aware of any interest from Liverpool at this time, although there was of course a rumour that he is being "lined up" as a replacement for Suarez a while back.}

Toure will be a great signing as a back-up option in defense. He clearly isn't going to be a starter but is a decent replacement if needs be. And on a free. Easy decision and glad we are acting early on in the window.

Fowler99

{Ed002's Note - If Toure arrives I would very much doubt it will be as back up.}

Believable6 Unbelievable24

Agreed ed002 what's he point if he's not going to get some assurances about playing time? Based on form of course. if not he might as well stay where he is

Agree0 Disagree0

Current Central Defenders we have:

Carra --- Agger
Skrtel --- Coates
Kelly --- Wisdom

Potential New Central Defenders:

Papa --- Agger
Kelly --- Toure
Wisdom --- Ilori

Im going to disagree with the ed on this occasion as I believe if Papa arrives then he will be the one to partner Agger, with Toure providing back up with his valuable experience alongside Kelly as I think Wisdom will play back up to Johnson.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry ed but I disagree, he'll playsome 1st team foott but there will be another top younger defender coming in also who'll play as many games {Ed002's Note - So Liverpool will commit significant money to someone to sit on the bench taking the place of a youngster?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes ed were talking about Liverpool here

Agree0 Disagree0

22 May 2013 18:28:10
Why does everyone assume he will be a backup? It makes little sense to bring someone in for their experience to put them on the bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can not complain of a guy of his stature. Simply buying a youngster is going to be waiting time. Or we buy both and feed the youngster into 1st team football gradually. Smart Move if that's the case.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have a number of friends who support City, and none of them rate Toure at all.

I think signing him would be a mistake; even on a 'free'.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to disagree Ed002, it's a squad game.

Chelsea for example, have Luiz, Ivanovic, Cahill and Terry and are still looking at Papa.

Likewise, LFC can have a strong squad and bring in Toure and Papa or someone else.

The real AG

Agree0 Disagree0

I would disagree with u ed also he will be backup

sha08 {Ed002's Note - MAy as well shut the academy if Liverpool are going to fill the bench with players that will cost £15M over two years.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree with the guy who says city fans think he's no good. My brother and the coach load of other fans would be more than willing to give him a new contract, on less money of course, considering he is no longer a first choice option at City. Toure pretty much lost his place after his ban, and let's face it they have a lot more talent than we do, he isn't past it.

Jamie Carragher couldn't get into our team for a good 18 months, but given his opportunity he wasn't crap.

Lest not the snobs forget that we have been moaning for experienced players to compliment our youth all season but a guy who won titles with Arsenal, and then got a lucrative move to City and got one with them suddenly isn't good enough for a team that finished 7th and hasn't had a sniff of a title or champions league for what feels like forever? How many epl titles have our whole squad won between them? Enough said.

If we can get him on reasonable wages I think he will an astute signing alongside another younger, progressive talent.

SideShowBob

Agree0 Disagree0

I also think we need more width in the defence, but not by signing an aging cb with massive wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 May 2013 23:48:14
You must all be nuts!
Toure is a good quality centre half with good leadership abilities, the exact reason we brought Carragher back in and dropped Skrtel. Our back line is great with a commander and disorganised without, just look at how many fewer goals we've conceded sinse Carragher came back compared to Agger Skrtel partnership. Toure will be our new Carragher, our leader at the back. We could do a hell of a lot worse than Toure.

Anfield Andy

Agree0 Disagree0

Think the guys exactly what we need

BozrogMcGurk

Agree0 Disagree0

Think I agree most with the guy who pointed out the situation at Chelsea. A squad of 3-4 players for 2 spots can exist with no 'back up' or 'first choice' - if you train hard and play well you get picked, if you don't then you dont

Agree0 Disagree0

People saying he will take up a lot of money on wages; you do realize he is apparently taking a pay cut, on accepting an offer a third of his current wages (so around 40k to 45k a week) which equates to 4.6 million over two years, around about the price expected for a back-up. If you add this with the news coming from Germany that we have more or less agreed a fee for Popadopolus at around £15 million, it would appear we want him as first choice. So yeah, I fully expect Toure to be a back-up, unless our scouting department have gone completely mad

Agree0 Disagree0

Top 5 central defenders:

Rio, vidic, smalling, jones, evans

Mertesacker, vermaeleen, koschielny, squillachi
djourou

Ivanovic, luiz, terry, cahill, Bruma

Richard, nastasic, kompany, toure, lescott

Kaboul, vertonghen, gallas, dawson (king if he didn't retire)

All these clubs have 5 centre backs in rotation. 2 preferred, others there to do a job. Quite frankly toure isn't going to get a sniff at city. Liverpool have 2 senior centre backs no carra has retired 1 is likely to be sold, we need another 2 if we keep coates.
I like kelly, but i'm not soold on his injuries, prefer him as right back cover to wisdom who gets turned inside out on the wing.

Lets not kid ourselves, if we sell skrtel we need 3 centrebacks. one who is a starter and one an experienced squad player. Toure has to face facts that he hasn't played in 18 months, therefore he IS a squad player now.

Hi Eds just wondering if there is any interest in Udinese's Columbian forward Luis Muriel? I know there is interest from Italys big clubs just wondering if there is any iterest from elsewhere, esp the prem as I thibk he would suit our style of football he's got strength pace and skill, cheers for any info JonBravo {Ed002's Note - There was plenty of interest in Luis Muriel over the summer but none I am aware of from Liverpool. Whilst he has signed a new long term contract at Udinese, there is still interest being shown by Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Napoli and Monaco and a move this summer seems likely.}

Believable12 Unbelievable3

So many good colombian players right now. one player I dream of seeing in red is James Rodriguez but they are saying he is on his way to monaco. there is a kid named Quintero who plays for Pescara on loan from Atletico Nacional who is good. Eds, do you think that Carroll's lenghty injury will put an end to his transfer? {Ed002's Note - I don't know. West Ham have already had two bids turned down for another striker who is now off elsewhere, so I would think the proposals for Carroll are a back up plan. I have no idea if the injury is really a serious matter or being over played. If it is serious, I would think WHU would shift their attentions elsewhere.}

Believable6 Unbelievable19

Is the other striker Bony Ed002? If so, where is he going?

The real AG {Ed002's Note - I am pretty sure that he will take an offer from Anzhi - we will know later today I think.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the reply. It's being reported today that he has to see a specialist and might be out for up to four months. Also that a preliminary deal was agreed upon a couple of weeks ago that starts at €15M, but could rise quite a bit depending on various criteria being met. It would be a shame if that fell through now.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up at Newcastle for around £10m.

Disney!

Agree0 Disagree0

The Times said that his heel injury should only have him out 6 weeks

Agree0 Disagree0

They (WHU) maybe looking at more than one striker, as Carlton Cole looks to be bound for pastures new. So big Sam looking to tie up Andy Carroll plus bring another striker in to replace Cole? So 2 strikers is plausable

Agree0 Disagree0

22 May 2013 16:45:45
Yes, but then it was reported that it was more serious, as I said. Just hope it goes through anyway, and soon. Getting our transfers done early for a change can make a lot of different in terms of gelling before the season starts.

Morning Eds

Just wondering if Liverpool have ever showing any interest in Romelu Lukaku? We seen what he can do when at West Brom. Surely BR would be looking at him as he ticks all the boxes of what he is looking at for LFC? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool has never approached Chelsea about him, and Chelsea would not be looking to sell the player.}

Hi eds, loving the work, can you answer this for me

Is it true that West Ham and LFC have come too an agreement over the price for Carroll?

Cheers, JCRED19 {Ed002's Note - I understand financially agreement has been reached, but nothing has been concluded.}

Believable12 Unbelievable3

Hello Eds,
sorry if this has been answered before but do Newcastle Utd have a sell-on clause on Carroll?
I just doubt even LFC are that dumb to consider a sell-on clause after paying 35 million straight cash. {Ed002's Note - Please RTP.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hello Eds,
just asked the same question to Tony Barrett (Times). His reply was there is a clause but it only applies if LFC make a profit on 35 million they paid.
Do you reckon there could be any truth in it? {Ed002's Note - I have explained I don't know - how would that view change?}

Hi Ed's,

Would it be worth taking a punt at Marcello from Real Madrid? I have read this morning that they are looking to offer him out as well as other players in exchange for Gareth Bale, but maybe we could put in an offer and take him to Anfield. Healthy competition for Enrique and can play Left Wing. Any thoughts?

Cheers, Big Red {Ed002's Note - There has been no interest from Liverpool.}

Believable3 Unbelievable20

Gareth bale will be at spurs nxt season

Agree0 Disagree0

Marcelo would be a great buy but he will still be a Madrid player come next season, we still have young Jack Robinson who should be given a chance as he is a good player.

Marcelo has been injured all season and his training habits are really bad (overweight etc).

Hey eds, I know there have been lots of rumours going around but I have not heard anything to do with illicic in a while. Liverpool looking to get most if not all business done very early.

Kolo Toure and Asmir Begovic deals have been agreed and awaiting signature.

The club are currently having "positive" talks for Diego Capel and Hatem Ben Arfa.

Along with that Carrolls fee has been agreed with West ham and Carroll will speak to Brendan before deciding what's best for him.

As Macca has already said about Reina he will return to Barca

Skrtel is allowed to leave aslong as his 9 million pound fee is met.

Downing could move to Stoke As part of the Begovic deal

Believable34 Unbelievable65

Not completely convinced on Begovic,
Diega Capel is rapid but very inconsistant and he is forever substituted for tiredness!

Ben Arfa yeah maybe. pending and injury issues are ok.
I would have Carroll back as a plan B option but if not then let him go.

Kolo Toure is a born leader and if Stevie G is out and carras gone he would be a good player top have. Balancing young with experienced.

Agree0 Disagree0

You have read a few things in the media and put 2 and 2 together and got 10!

A few more facts Carroll is injured and may not want to move to West Ham.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not convinced about the Skrtel departure because of BR said too him about him being part of his plans for the next season, also he doesn't see the point in leaving when the fans love him.

And Downing has i'm proved massively this season, so why would we get rid of him?

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd be gutted to see Reina leave as he's been a tremendous servant, but at the same time I'd be chuffed with Begovic. I'd happily have Toure on a free providing we bring some young quality (Papadapoulos and Ilori) in too. Capel would be a decent squad player but only for a minimal fee. The idea was always that the Carroll fee will go straight towards tying up the Eriksen deal as soon as possible.

Agree0 Disagree0

£9 million for Skyrtel?, double that at least, wasn't he touted for around £25-30million last summer when Man City were after him, so he had one bad game against Oldham & lost £15-20million in value, everyone knows he was only benched to give Carra a send off, as for the rest I doubt Pepe will be going, there won't be any deal for Ben Arfa or we would of used Carroll in a deal, I think If BR goes about his business like he did in January we'll have a very successful season next year, up to now I see the young Greek guy, Kolo Toure & that's defense sorted, another 1 maybe 2 attacking creative midfielder & another striker because I see Borini as no more as a 4th choice so a bit more quality needed, were not far off, its all about quality not quantity this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Really annoying when people spout off when they know nothing.

If you think Skrtel is worth 18 million then you are very deluded. Man city had no interest in Skrtel just Agger.

Pepe Will be going Barcelonda only come round once in a lifetime unless your Fabregas and with Reina being spanish and Barcelona fan he will jump at the chance.

For you to say Carra was only playing to give him a send off shows your lack of football knowledge and disrespect to Jamie. Also question BR desire to get us higher in the league.

Newcastle have said they have no interest in Carroll and with West ham having first refusal on Carroll there's not much we can do about that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey eds,
Been hearing about kolo toure rumours. are they true? I would not understand this move, as the policy appears to be youth is the way forward, and I don't think we need a 32 year old coming in. I wouldn't mind so much if it was the likes of Hangeland, with good experience and palaying constantly, but not someone who has not played constantly for the past two seasons and is probabably unfit? I have a feeling if he came he would turn out like joe cole. on high wages, and was once really good, but his best days are behind him. And are we back in for tom ince? Think he was a top player this year in the championship {Ed001's Note - there has been contact with Toure's agent, which is how the story has broke, his agent is obviously trying to stir up other offers. Hangeland is slow and cumbersome and has been in dreadful form, he is also not good on the ball, so wouldn't suit our system. We have never dropped interest in Ince, but little chance he will join us, he wants guaranteed first team football.}

Believable17 Unbelievable3

Fully agree with ed001 here. I saw Hangelaand at Craven Cottage a couple of weeks ago.
He's the last thing we need. I'd rather Kolo than him. He's a poorer Sami Hyppia, without Sami's pace!
The Juicer

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed do you think it'll be a good signing? {Ed019's Note - I think he'd be good backup}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hangelaand? Seriously? Did you not see him play against us. Sturridge ruined him all game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hangerlaand hasn't been in the best of form but I reckon with Agger they would make a good partnership
Sturridge and Suarez make most defenders look poor. Come on I'm on a Brucie from his agent ;-)
