According to Sly...."Fulham deny any possible swap-deal for Clint Dempsey". Also, they won't listen to any offers for him.
Personally, I think that Fulham will cave in for £8-10m for a 29 yr old in the last year of his contract. Hope so.
ANFIELDPETE

Hopefully Fulham stick to this policy, i don't wan't Dempsey anywhere near Anfield

Are you out of your mind, 8million plus for someone who will be free next year and is 29 years old, I can see him being a flop, at best I can see him being a super sub. I definitely cannot see him being better then what we already got. Average player if you ask me, there are players out there better younger and cheaper affelly for one.

Lets hope they hold firm and keep him, not Liverpool quality.

And why would we not want a midfielder who has scored more goals than our entire front line put together?

Not good business to pay £10 Million for a 29 year old going on 30 year old anyway unless they are Lionel Messi.

LFc won't pay that cash on Dempsey and if they did it would be bad business. From what I can gleam LFC have to sell before they can buy anyway.

Because we couldn't have done with a 20+ goalscorer last season...

Thats how much we want..Give us the dosh and his yours.. simplez! PS Hope we get sterling on loan as a sweetner!

Kev

Why not, is 23 goals in 46 games not good enough for you? or would you rather play downing with 2 goals in 36 appearences and no goals or assists in the premier league?

No one is good enough for Liverpool.

Kuyt sold for 1 million hes 31! dempsey's fans want him for 10 millions pound and hes 30!! W0o0oww! Did I miss something in the previous dayzz?!

Not saying Clint isnt or wouldnt be a good addition to the squad but it would be no different to what weve beeb doing for the last x years, I'm afraid signing 29yr olds despite their goalscoring ability or whatever is not the way fwd, Brendan save the cash mate and put it twds a young player instead, agree or disagree it will probably turn out not how we want, buy young and mould them into what we need, we have plenty of exp. players already...Peace&Out...

Cant believe the responses on here, I'd take him in a flash, goal scoring threat in midfield is what we lack, he has a natural instinct to be in the right place at the right time, well worth a punt imo

Red hag

And what players are "Liverpool quality" these days? It's obvious to me that for some fans the only players who exhibit the mythical "Liverpool quality" are club legends, usually those brought up through the youth system or bought before their prime from lesser clubs. The way people talked about Dani Pacheco is something I'll not soon forget. You can score 23 goals in 46 games as Dempsey did this past year and be a truly good competitor at the Premier League level for years before and still not be considered "Liverpool Quality," but a few scant performances as a 17 year old in earns you hero status for life. People need to do away with this false standard of "Liverpool quality" that has only ever existed in the minds of the fans and start to examine players more objectively. I'm truly sorry that Clint Dempsey doesn't spell his name "Eden Hazard" or "Robin Van Persie" but if you don't think Dempsey could help this team you have either never watched him play or you simply can't see through your myopic lenses to have ever really learned anything when you watch a game of footy.

Get Dempsey, he will help us to top 4 and champions league? how much is that worth? some supporters can't see the wood for the trees? we need goals? goals change games and build confidence throughout the team? look how we suffered last season. Players like Dempsey don't grow on trees? So 8m/10m in "Our Situation!" could be a bargain. We have the basis of a very good team that just lacks a couple of players to blend with Suarez and put the ball in the net.
kidmillions

Dempsey is not the only 'below 10m' striker who will put balls in the net though. If Fulham want to play hardball, lets move on.

Yes, you missed the fact that Dempsey scored a load of goals and had a blinder of a season, and you missed the fact that Dirk Kuyt is 2 years older and was a bit part player.

On a serious note I fear for out club, when our 'supporters' are willing to write off talented players like Dempsey or Joe Allen before they've unpacked their boots?

Some of the above comments are cringe worthy?

...and the way some of you bang on like accountants? Forget the money, forget the wages, just get behind the players like proper fans.

None of us know exactly what's in BR's mind, and how he wants the team to play. I do trust him and I think he will buy players who will be technically sound, and play well together in his system.

Oh, and on the subject of older players. In 2001 we won a lot of trophies. Gary McAllister was at the end of a distinguished career, and had probably his best year with Liverpool. He was pivotal.

Ed002, If Rodgers were to sign either Sinclair or Dyer who do you think would be the more likely of the two to sign? And while I know you've said you don't rate either, would you say one is better than the other?

Cheers in advance. Love the site! {Ed002's Note - I have suggested there may be interest in Sinclair after the Olympics - so I will stick with that.}

MY LFC Fan

Sterling is better than both, so just use him.

Please no to both of them they are no where near the qulatiy we have in our youth

Not saying I want them to come in. Was more just curious if Sinclair was the only winger from Swansea that Rodgers was looking at. I'd much prefer Sterling to come through!

Ed practically telling you the answer! Bung a £10 on it lol..
Lee73

The stats don't tell the whole picture. Although I hope we get neither Dyers work rate was far more than Sinclairs. For all round game Dyer.
But lets hope we have better on the agenda. We need a right winger. Who will that be?

Eds how desperately do Man Utd want Lucas Moura? Are all these rejected bids supposedly true? {Ed002's Note - The situation with Lucas Moura is very complicated and it could drag out all summer and come to nothing. Chelsea made two bids earlier in the year and Inter also made a bid in January. Real Madrid looked to a deal involving another player going in exchange but that came to nothing. His agent would prefer a part ownership deal with Inter. Manchester United remain interested in the player but probably not at a price that is acceptable to Sao Paulo and I expect their bid would be unacceptable. I would not discount any of the clubs, nor would I discount him staying until the end of the year and discussions starting again in January. The feeling from someone in Brazil is that he thinks that Manchester United will probably not make any further offer for Lucas Moura as they feel they have already bid to the best value of the player. He cannot be certain there will be no higher bids but he can be certain that if there are then the club would be paying over the odds for the player.

Furthermore, there were discussions held in Colorado with another club which surrounded a part ownership proposal that would see the player move to Italy for two years at some point and then a full buy out of his rights resulting in either a sale or perhaps a move to the part owning club. It was considered to be impractical.}

Hi Edds ,just heard that there could be legs to the rumour that a swap deal could be on for cash and Demba Ba for Andy Carroll due to Galatasaray's loss of interest. Do you think that this swap deal could be a Possibility? {Ed002's Note - Please see previous answers but this subject has pretty much been done to death already.}

So Newcastle are going to give Liverpool Demba Ba and Cash for Carrol....Seriously. It should be the other way round. Just because you got mugged for £35 million doesn't mean you will get any of it back. Carrol is worth £10 million no more.

It's ok I'd rather keep him Ba is worth nothing if he can't pass a medical. Good luck in January when they both leave for the nations I'm sure the brothers will help you out.

What a stupid reply?

Considering Newcastle, Fulham, West Ham and possibly Milan are all interested, do you REALLY believe he's worth only £10m?

Young, English international, less than £10m?

Don't be silly.

Yes that is his value in his current form. As or England international we are hardly spoilt for choice for good forwards. Just because someone is English don't make them worth anymore. So don't you be silly.

African nations..Didn't do us any harm last season did it. Also Ivory coast play Senegal so we wont lose all of our players 1 maybe 2.

Newcastle can keep Demba Ba. He's just a poor mans Andy Carroll.

Kev.

Ba is probably the better all round player but Carroll is a good player in the right system. Is he worth more than £18m no ,not on current form.

Stick to your own site person.

Poor man's Andy Carrol. Cheers for that. Ba was free and quality and Carrol £35 milion and poor. Re-think that statement. As for own site plenty of Liverpool fans get on ours. It's called banter. Dry your eyes.

You really should know that English players are more valuable to English teams than non-English?

Especially if you're going to come on here mouthing off?

English players are more expensive because there will be minimum number of English players required by regulations per squad...

Hence young English players fetch a premium - think Phil Jones, Henderson etc...

You don't seem to know what your on about mate, this is basic stuff.

The last time Newcastle won anything worthwhile was in 1955. Absolute joke of a club. Dry your eyes.

Kev.

Typical Geordies, have one unbelievable season but here standards and think there the best team in Europe. Half of them probably dnt even go to the matches!!
Fools!!
PT77

Its basic is it?

Well it seems you don't have your ducks in a row do you. From the 2010/11 season the EPL will essentially require 8 of out of 25 players to be ˜home-grown.' This does not necessarily mean that they have to be of British nationality. So your point of English players having a premium hold NO water at all.

You don't seem to know what your on about mate. Basic stuff. LMAO.

You really want to learn to read the original statement. At no point in any of my comments have I mentioned " great season or "best team in Europe " Simple stated that you are kidding yourselves if you think you will get Ba and cash for Carrol. Also I go to every game I possible can go to home and away do you?

As for a joke of a club. Liverpool win that hands down every season. Spend huge amounts of money on rubbish and have the nerve to slate other clubs. Couldn't care less that we haven't won anything in years still follow them regardless. You sound like a glory hunting fan. You going to change your colors to City?

I'm not a Geordie mate alright.

A Newcastle fan comes on here on a wind up. Gets torn to pieces and starts crying his eyes out.

57 years and counting.

Man City have won 2 trophies in about 36 years, almost as bad as Newcastle. Almost.

Short term memory mate you boys have spent your fair share over the years and won nowt but the second division.

Sad were that bad of team now are level of arguments are with teams like this

Do we have to put up with this crap? Newcastle fans having arguments on here whatever next? leaves a bad taste!

Carrol is worth about 19-22 million in this current transfer climate.liverpool wont sell him unless that is met i reckon,i wouldnt sell anyway hes a different option up front ,no one else out there who you can compare to really

Why would you disagree when i say I'm not a Geordie? .If I were I would be proud to say it mate as I have always found them nice people as I have LIVERPOOL FOLK TOO. I'm just a person who likes footie and to make comments on it if that's o.k with you.I'm west country actually and I'm only posting my 2nd reply so there are others posting on here it's not all me.And by the way I'm not crying as you put it

You couldn't care less you havent won anything? Wow your a massive fan, because who cares if we fail season after season. There lies the difference between the 2 clubs
FowlerisGod

I wouldn't rise to it . I have had this argument with a work mate he supports Newcastle . They are a big club but only in the northeast of England but Liverpool like Man Utd, arsenal, are big clubs world wide so just let the little clubs enjoy a good season every now and then .

Cheers .
Jamesy
Northeast of England

Who is crying. Laughing more like. No a Newcastle fan comes and give his opinion about the Carrol/ Ba saga and a liverpool fan get upset and start mentioning trophies and history which when it comes down to it is all you have to shout about. Torn to pieces? Explain cos reading the comment your one about english players is wrong, so who got torn to pieces?

Liverpool are only big through merchandising theses days. Shame its nothing to do with the actual footballing side of things. Been on a slow decline for seasons.

New era begins now watch r football improve big time goodluck hope u avoid relegation next season becuse i like newcastle.

Finished 5th last season. Squad is stronger and you hope we don't get relegated? Thanks for your concern but I would be more worried about your own side. Good luck.

Hi ed002 how do you see Walcott's contract situation? At a guess I would see him signing a new one at Arsenal. From a Liverpool's fans view he would definitely improve our squad.

Thanks mate
Mighty reds {Ed002's Note - I would agree that I expect he will see the light and figure out what is best for him is to stay at Arsenal.}

Southern boy will stay in the south no matter who his boyhood team was - will either stay at arsenal or cross city to chelsea

I think Walcott would be a good signing for us especially if we're gonna play a 4-3-3 type formation most of the time he'd be the kinda player we have to try and recruit, I think he'd learn a lot from Suarez and he'd link up well with the likes of Joe Cole. Eds any word on whether we're gonna sign any wide players or will Brendan stick with Downing and try to bring through the awesome youngsters we have like Suso and Sterling?

It would seem that despite Arsenals best efforts, they haven't converted him into a world class player. If Arsenal can't do it, I doubt anyone will be able to. I'd be happy if he'd join Liverpool but not dissapointed if he doesn't

22 Jul 2012 11:13:23
Eds,Kevin mirrales,is there anything going on {Ed002's Note - Lille, Toulouse and, in particular, Werder Bremen have been showing an interest in Mirallas after a move to Bayern Munich failed to materialise. Unconfirmed reports identify interest from Arsenal and Liverpool. Would be a decent addition to the squad.}

Hi Eds. Any more clarity about Doni's future? Been a few different rumours (contract cancelled, can't get a visa, wants more playing time etc.) but nothing definitive.

Certainly looks like Jones will be the benchwarmer to Pepe this year, which didn't look likely a few months ago, so seems like Doni and Gulacsi will likely move on with Ward as third choice and playing for the ressies.

Ta. {Ed002's Note - I don't know what the plans are with the goalkeepers. Liverpool were looking in January but it came to nothing. Doni was expected to go to Santos as Rafael was to be leaving but that hasn't happened.}

Does the Doni situation really matter

Visa wont come into it - he's got Italian nationality

Hi all.
Doni's name is not on the official LFC squad anymore,so is that a clue?.

any chance of axel witsel he's a world class midfielder and would fit in to BR's style of play, could be expensive though as united, arsenal and chelsea are interested in him, but would be great if we could get him- cheers HH {Ed002's Note - There has been interest in Witsel from Manchester United, AC Milan and Real Madrid over recent months and Manchester United's interest in the player may well ramp up again soon.}

22 Jul 2012 09:52:58
Will affalay be comin {Ed002's Note - Afellay has been out injured pretty much all of this past season and I think future chances at Barcelona may be limited and although the player is keen to stay, it looks like Barcelona will now make him available. Dortmund and Schalke have a declared interest in the player and Italy looks like another option available to him (although Inter have said they are no longer interested). There may be interest from the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle. A move to Lille has already been rejected.}

It sounds exciting to get a young player from Barca but look at the other players we have bought that were either injured or had not played since being injured. Aquilani, Carroll,Joe Cole, none of them lived up to reputation after joining us.

Morning eds and reds have heard dempsey is on his way with charlie adam and cash going in the opposite direction. do the eds know if this is true? cheers CRAIG {Ed002's Note - I would expect a deal to be completed that will see DEmpsey move to Liverpool. I have no feeling for whether Adam will eb included or not.}

To be fair to Adam, if he is played in a more advanced role he is better. Against Toronto yesterday he was playing diagonal balls and short passes etc. He is a good player, but there must be questions asked about his speed. With the high intensity game Liverpool are no doubt going to play next season, he has a tendency to be clumsy and get booked for late tackles.

What do the ed's/other people think?

Mattieu Debuchy is a potential signing as mourinho goes in for glen Johnson.. Duke

Hasn't debuchy signed for Newcastle?

Andy {Ed002's Note - Not yet. There are two issues - Lille finding a replacement and interest from Inter Milan who are looking to replace Maicon. If Johnson were to leave, Debuchy would be an able replacement.}

Johnson is class hope he doesn't go!

Azpilicueta is the only decent right back available in my eyes. this guy is absolute class

Marc {Ed002's Note - Marseille's right back Cesar Azpilicueta has been considered by Real Madrid, Chelsea, Athletic Bilbao, Roma, Valencia and Barcelona. Initial interest from Manchester United has waned. Regardless of the interest of Roma, Chelsea are best placed to complete a deal but the player still needs a persuading that his international career will not suffer if he moved to England. A deal will likely be completed after the Olympics.}

Liverpool are offering Swansea £10m and Jay Spearing in exchange for Joe Allen while they are also looking to offload Alberto Aquilani who is desperate to return to Italy. Liverpool are offering Bologna £10m and Aquilani in exchange for Gaston Ramirez. Everton are planning a shock £6.5m move for Charlie Adam who is surplus to requirements. Ed any truth in this? {Ed022's Note - I don't believe there to be any truth in any of these rumours I'm afraid.}

The Everton rumour may have some truth as Charlie Adams agent in David Moyes brother. Watch this space.

Pity, they would all be great

Would be awesome deals!

Everton havent got 6.5m to spend.

Depends who the blue noses sell whether they have £6.5m

Charlie Adam wouldn't go to Everton, he'd be better off at a bigger club like Fulham or Reading.

Kev.

Soundslike wishful thinking to me!

{Ed022's Note - Morning everyone. I just thought I'd say that the 'Upload Your Own Profiles' section has really taken off, and there are several profiles that will be of interest to you Liverpool fans. There is (to name but a few) a profile on Joe Allen, Kevin Mirallas and now there is TWO profiles on Clint Dempsey, both done by different fans. There are also several other profiles, so feel free to come on over to the site and check them out, as fans like yourself have worked very hard on them. www.player-profiles.co.uk - thanks all.}

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the player profile section, please don't make any of this a subscription service ed's as you'll let them win..

Glen Johnson could be on his way, with interest from Arsenal and Real Madrid.
His partner is settled in Merseyside though and doesnt want to move, but the club are looking to move him on due to his wages which are believed to be £115,000 pw.
BR is looking for a replacement as was Dalglish when he was in charge.

So Arsenal are going to match or better £115,000 a week?

There is no way he is on £115000 a week and there is certainly no way arsenal will match it. Johnson isn't going anywhere

Johnson isn't moving.

Johnson isn't on 115k per week full stop, so the rumour isn't credible

I f he goes aswell what a joke are club is becoming.

"If he goes as well" pray tell me who has gone so far? Apart from Dirk Kuyt I don't recall anyone leaving though if you believe the posters on this site most of the first team squad are away soon. {Ed002's Note - Maxi has gone, and Aurelio, Amoo. You need to keep up.}

Hope he stays.we would be buggered at right back if he was to go as he is one of the best top 10 right backs in the world

Johnsons now on 90k a week

I would think that GJ will still be number 2 for us next season. We have already reduced our wages by offloading Maxi & Kuyt as well as Aurelio.
Scouse_Pride

If he was to go. I would hope Kelly gets a chance. He's a young English talent. And I think he's spot on. So why would we pay for somebody else? Kelly and Flanno. They'd grow every game. With Coates and Robinson. I think we have a good young future of defensive players.

I usually judge weather a player is worth holding onto based on who is sniffing round them, if their only drawing interest from stoke and west brom then yeah its safe to say there not good enough for us, but when you've got real sniffing like with xabi and now glen surely alarm bells should be ringing and people should think hang on maybe we've got a worldclass player here!

Ed 002 I was of course refering to regular 1st teamers.I don't need to keep up on the fact that Aurelio was permanently injured.Amoo never showed as a 1st team player,and Maxi was somewhat of a fringe player.I was thinking of the players everyone claims are leaving us such as Carroll,Suarez,Skirtel,Adam,Downing,Johnson,Reina etc. {Ed002's Note - I am sure one or two of those will be leaving still but it is a squad that has to be named and maintained, not just a nominal first team.}

Another recycled rumour from before the Euros plus hes not on 115k also why would we sell Glen to Arsenal of all people, we shouldn't be selling our best players to anyone we need to compete with... Also after the Euros Glen had it showed everyone how good he is defensively.

How do so many people know how much Johnson is paid? I haven't a clue how much my wife earns, and I'm sleeping with her.

Your wife never told me either :)

She's on 25 grand a year...

Hey eds. Any interest from liverpool in Grosskreutz of Dortmund? Heard he loves anfield and would like to play for the reds some day.

Red American {Ed022's Note - No idea mate, although I've heard the rumours. Personally I think it's BS.}

22 Jul 2012 01:37:03
Hi Eds. If we were to go for a LB, who would likely be the contenders? I know we won't have much of an idea re: BRs mind, but thought someone might know which LBs we've had watched over the past year that the scouts might be pushing BR towards. Cheers. {Ed022's Note - I'm not sure to be honest, I know we were looking at Pablo Armero, but if I remember correctly he recently just completed a transfer himself.}

Cheers Ed022. Thought as much!

What's Enrique done wrong? I think he's top notch!

Agree, Enrique is a good player, but it's normal to have 2 for each position and Robbo isn't yet up to PL standard, meaning Enrique needs competition.

22 Jul 2012 00:51:59
hi eds reds having posted a couple of days ago , concerning signing higher class of player to finish the team off up top, further worrying rumours concerning suarez and skretel persist. so far from requiring maybe 2 top signings , we could be losing ? eds , can you shed any light on any offers or possible offers for suarez and skretel and anyone else? godbless 96 all reds steviep62. {Ed022's Note - It has been discussed regarding a few potential offers for Suarez. 1) - Juve could offer Krasic plus cash. 2) - Juve could offer Krasic, Giovinco and Matri, although I am unsure of if any cash would be included. However, I feel at the moment Juve seem to be focussed on RVP, but I expect them to return for Suarez.}

Ed do you feel we would be interested in any of the mentioned players ?
Personally I think we would be fools to accept any of those players. Just demand straight cash between 30 million pounds to 35 million pounds and re-invest in the players the manager wants.
Hell just raid Barcelona and Real madrid youth acadamies like arsenal do buy them for 4 million and sell them back after 4 years for 30 million. :)
What do you reckon Ed ? {Ed002's Note - There has been interest in teh likes of Krasic before. I would think that Giovinco would be a consideration.}

Don't panic.Purely press speculation.They are a load of WUM's. {Ed002's Note - It is not press speculation - I have been telling you for months about this.}

RVP will join the Manc spam i'm afraid.

Most of the clubs in Europe would love to have Suarez. That's because he's a great player. Suarez is also a great person and honourable and will still be playing for Liverpool this season.
kidmillions {Ed002's Note - I am not sure that honourable is an adjective many would apply to Suarez - particularly the Groningen fans.}

Krasic, Giovinco AND Matri?? As much as I love Suarez, i'd give serious consideration to that deal!

Reports that Liverpool Reserves midfielder Conor Coady is about to sign a permanent deal at Barnsley. Nothing official, though.

Anyone else heard this?

dmedly

Might be wrong but I'm pretty sure it's Toni Silva that Barnsley are after mate, not coady thankfully

Eds can you shed any light on posts above? {Ed022's Note - I don't believe them to be true, put it that way. The Coady rumour I doubt very very much, not sure on how true the Silva one is though, I'll need to check with Ed001.}

Seriously Conner Coady is not good enough for the Premier League and was very poor for the u19s recently. Might be one day but I would not be putting much money on it. Pompey Red.

We can only hope in the case of coady

Er, seriously, Conor Coady is class. Not ready yet for the PL, but getting closer and closer. He's still a kid FFS. The hell is up with people on this site?

Silva rumours don't surprise me though as he seems to have stagnated the past 2 years. Unlike Coady!

Money for Coady...wow, i'll grab it. He is noway good enough to play for LFC. I remember when Spearing was getting that hype when he was in the ressies, and look how basic he looks in the first team

Coady is like Spearing. If he wasn't a local lad then he would be nowhere near Liverpool FC.

Kev.

I was at a dinner hosted by Jan Molby last year who spoke afterwards. When asked about the youngsters coming through the academy, he said Coady wasn't good enough.

I was a bit surprised to be honest but he was quite clear. Unless he improves considerably he won't be the player a lot of fans expect him to be.

Comparisons with Gerrard probably don't help and is unfair on the lad.

Joe

Re:joe,shame about that really wanted coady to come through & step up,big jan is usually a good judge of a player interestingly on a another related point a friend of mine when to see jan do an after dinner talk a few years ago & asked him his opinion on Lucas as the general opinion of him was not as we all know positive jan said he said the same thing to alonso who assured him Lucas would come good & that all the players rated Lucas very highly! Some times patience is needed to let the younger players flourish.......y.n.w.a paisley's genius
