Quick question for Ed002 if I may.

Reports showing Palace are showing an interest in Benteke and Liverpool looking at a significant fee for him.

Is their interest due to the fact they have more money to spend as a result of the new TV revenue?

Cheers.

Believable5 Unbelievable10

{Ed002's Note - No, their interest will be because they see that the player can improve their side.}

01 Jul 2016 23:44:03
Can u see us getting the 30mill we are holding out for Ed002? . Or will we get 28 or something. I thought 25 was good.

Agree3 Disagree5

{Ed002's Note - I would not get too wrapped up in the money McD.}

02 Jul 2016 06:08:02
Sure thing Ed 2, of course they see Benteke as an option to improve their squad, hence the bid.

I just thought that it was significant as I've never seen the likes of say Palace bid that amount for a player, especially when you factor in all the additional costs, agents fees, VAT on these fees, potential relocation costs etc etc,

Having said that, I think I read below that Palace have backing from the US so that may have answered my question.

Agree1 Disagree4

02 Jul 2016 09:53:54
Money is clearly not an issue for Palace as they had no problem splashing 33m on a bid for Batshuayi. I think the deal will go through especially because he wants the move and we don't wanna keep him.

Agree8 Disagree2

03 Jul 2016 04:05:09
obviously it's because of the TV deal. no idea why Ed 02 disagreed with that comment. i don't think they can afford to bid that much with out it.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - because you are wrong. They could not afford to spend that much because of the TV deal. Why do ignorant people argue when it is clear they have no idea what they are talking about? Palace were taken over recently by an extremely well-financed group who are pumping money in. That is why they can afford it, not because of the TV money, which they have not received yet anyway.}

03 Jul 2016 07:34:25
Spot on, Ed. They are financial backers from the States if I'm correct. If not, you may correct me.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - correct, they are an American consortium.}

Hello all,

I mentioned a few weeks back about Benteke meeting Pardew in Brussels Airport. DM reporting he has agreed terms with Palace. Fee to be agreed yet.

Kosovo Joe.

Believable17 Unbelievable5

01 Jul 2016 20:43:51
Won't this be a case of a club tapping up a player before the clubs can agree a fee for the player? or is it that Palace have asked permission from Liverpool to talk to Benteke before agreeing a fee?

Agree12 Disagree5

01 Jul 2016 22:11:33
Does it matter if we get a good fee for benteke?

Agree9 Disagree5

01 Jul 2016 22:52:00
Are we really going to get upset that other are "tapping up" our players?

It's not as if we have ever done anything as underhanded as that!

Agree17 Disagree6

02 Jul 2016 00:59:12
I'd be happy for clubs to tap up players that we never should have bought in the first place so that we can get them off our bloody payroll!

Agree5 Disagree6

02 Jul 2016 01:59:52
If we're desperately trying to sell Benteke, then why are we complaining when potential buyer goes beyond legal boundaries to convince Benteke to leave?!

Agree4 Disagree5

02 Jul 2016 02:18:35
It's not tapping up if the club gives permission to speak to the player.

Crystal palace have bid 25 million for Christian benteke.

Still hope that we can recoup a bit more cash. Never take the first offer. Benteke will come back and hurt us though!

Take 25 we got half what we paid for Carroll sometimes you cut looses and his aren't bad.

Agree2 Disagree5

01 Jul 2016 22:59:20
baz we cannot worry about players coming back to score against us, it was the fact he seemed to score against us every time he played for villa that got him a move in the 1st place, agree with you about trying to get more though, I would take £30m and not a penny less, what's ironic is that pardew wants that "cheat" to dive all over the place in a crystal palace shirt. Its obvious that klopp would rather play clyne upfront than benteke so its best for both parties to go there separate ways, he was never going to fit into our style of play, at palace it will be like playing for villa once again for him.

02 Jul 2016 06:57:29
Why are you all so wrapped up in the money that's the whole problem with football today. Rick Parry started it when he instigated the start of the premier league, then money took over and now even s*** loads of fans are more worried if Mane cost 32 or 33m than how many goals he's going to score. FORGET THE MONEY enjoy the footy .

Spot on chief.

Agree2 Disagree1

02 Jul 2016 10:04:14
If you're worried about players coming back to score against you then don't sell any of your players and you will have a squad of 100 players. Benteke should never have been signed and the fact that he scored often against us was more an indictment on BR's inability to defend against him than he being a great player. Another BR mess that Klopp has to clean up. I say, take the money and run only if Palace is not willing to budge. No use playing hardball for no reason because that's just stupid.

Agree6 Disagree3

02 Jul 2016 12:53:25
We want him off the books, the fact we paid over the odds for him doesn't make him worth more. How many people were saying that the time he was only worth on the 20s, but now we should be demanding 30+ for a player who has barely played and on form for us would struggle to justify 10? The money we spent to pay for him is gone, done, finished. Anything we get for him now isn't going against that, it is going against where we are now. Also he is on a big wage that we will be saving as well. Ultimately if they are willing to pay a decent sum and all his wages in future it is the right decision.

Agree0 Disagree2

02 Jul 2016 15:23:18
Your wrong LondonIrishRed - yes the money will have gone out of the clubs 'bank account' but the player will still be sat in the balance sheet depreciating in value over the term of his contract - getting £30m for him will help balance the books a bit better than getting £20m.

Agree2 Disagree0

03 Jul 2016 11:45:50
johnnyr we are pretty much coming from the same point here, what I was getting at was we shouldn't be hung up on what we paid originally being the guide, we should be looking at the max we can get now and the benefits of getting that now. My view though was more that based on current value he is worth 10-15 so 25-30 is a good deal regardless of what we paid originally and if I understand correctly he is one of the higher paid players - costing us a few million a year in wages as well.

Hi eds the gaurdian reporting that we are interested in Newcastles Moussa Sissoko power house of a player has the story any legs or is it lazy journalism as we are top heavy in the midfield stakes at the moment, any more word on chilwell or what's the position there thanks.

Believable2 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - The only approach I am aware of was from Hamburg.}

01 Jul 2016 12:08:38

01 Jul 2016 12:13:37
Would certainly add something to our squad. Would happily move on Lucus, Allen, Milner for Sissoko.
And before we all pipe up about the youngsters he is a mug better player than them.

Agree5 Disagree16

01 Jul 2016 13:10:44
Ill pipe up, yeah cause he really helped Newcastle stay up and did much more than Allen, Milner and LucAs this season. The Lucas shout is a laugh and would have Branagan in over him any day. secondly did you also forget about the midfielders were already bringing in. So by logic and us being only in domestic football this season, hell probably get a game or two in mid season if we signed him, would be a waste of even more money and wages.

Agree7 Disagree3

01 Jul 2016 15:42:16
MrWjonesy, Who helped who stay up? Newcastle got relegated so he helped no one stay up.

02 Jul 2016 07:33:40
Pub players are better than Lucas.

Agree0 Disagree7

{Ed001's Note - no they are not. If you think that then you should try knitting or something, as footie is clearly not your thing. Sissoko is not good enough, poor attitude, lazy, doesn't track back, and was a big part of the reason they went down.}

02 Jul 2016 08:44:24
Agree with ed1 on that, you obviously don't know much about football if you think Lucas is a pub player, and Sissoko was awful last year and it will probably reflect in the club he joins, I'm shocked he is in the France squad.

Agree2 Disagree1

02 Jul 2016 10:06:54
Heavy, your post is stupid and Ed was right to give you a telling off. If Sissoko added anything to Newcastle then whatever it was, I want none of it.

Hi eds was wondering what's the latest update on markovic is he still looking to leave or will he stay and be part of klipperty's plans?

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - he is likely to leave. Well if we can find someone to buy him.}

01 Jul 2016 07:05:39
Is that the right decision Ed, in your view? I think he should be given an opportunity as there were flashes of skill and quality, even when Brendened.

Agree0 Disagree5

{Ed001's Note - we have Mane for his role now, Mane is a better player, so there really is no place for him to be honest.}

01 Jul 2016 07:24:12
I for one hope Klopp has a good look at him through pre-season. Everyone thought he had lots of potential when he came in and the poor guy then played most games as a wing back .

Of course if he wants out that is different, but he's still young and it would be good to see him get a chance in his proper position.

Agree14 Disagree3

01 Jul 2016 08:44:32
I didn't watch him at all last season, so can't comment on how he played while on loan, but I think he has a lot of potential and I would give him another chance. Skilful, pacey and knows where the net is.

01 Jul 2016 08:55:10
looks like the kid is off then unless he really does super well I mean super well.

01 Jul 2016 09:11:15
Lazar can't be that keen on leaving as he's reported back to training early. Speaks volumes for his mentality in my opinion. Could still serve a purpose in the squad for me. One of those players ruined by Brandan. If anyone could resurrect his career its Klopp. Marko can play either wing so switch him opposite Mane and we have two very capable and quick wingers. Plus Ojo could learn along side of them and aid his development while playing the cup games.

Agree18 Disagree2

01 Jul 2016 10:01:11
Natural poolie, LFC already have a player named Coutinho who will play on the opposite wing to Mane so that kinda leaves Marko out in the cold. Its in the player's best interest to move on and find a club better suited for his development, as long as we get back what we paid for him.

Agree4 Disagree7

01 Jul 2016 10:30:29
Coutinho isn't a winger. He can play on the left if playing 3 cams but that is a very different role than a winger.

Agree7 Disagree3

01 Jul 2016 11:17:45
Markovic isn't some seasoned pro that will develop Ojo, he's a youngster with limited experience himself and if anything still needs time and guidance to develop himself. Also it doesn't really matter if Coutinho is a winger or not, we have 11 places on the pitch. If one of those can't be found for someone and they really want to be playing starting football then they are better off looking elsewhere. That isn't a dig at them because it is an admirable trait these days where players happily sit on their arse picking up inflated salaries. Last thought, if he can prove to Klopp that he should be one of the 14 players that can get on the park each match then good for him and let him stay and do that.

Agree7 Disagree1

01 Jul 2016 12:13:50
Marko has no future here and the Eds has said this repeatedly. He wants out and Fernebahce are open to keeping him and he enjoyed his time there before his injury. He was an unnecessary acquisition and is now paying the price of someone else's incompetence. I say, let him go and we move on.

Agree4 Disagree3

01 Jul 2016 14:06:47
Love how Mane and Coutinho are expected to play every league, cup and FA cup game without cover. Marko should be given his chance like anyone else willing to do their best.

Agree9 Disagree3

01 Jul 2016 17:43:49
We have plenty of cover. Lallana and Milner can/ do both play wide as well as the kids like Ojo and Kent. Markovic would be lucky to even make the bench most of the time and sitting in the stands isn't really going to benefit him. I'd personally rather see whatever limited minutes he does get going to Ojo.

Agree5 Disagree1

01 Jul 2016 17:55:25
Poolie got a fantastic point there. Lazar has breathtaking pace and is clever like Sterling. Not the typical winger who use the physique much into he game. He coildnalsonolay through the middle and is decent on goal. He just seems lightweight and always waiting for an injury to happen.
Would I keep him? I would, If no one pays a sum that is actually his value ( say about £10 mill )

We gave Ibe a full year with no success. Let's play Markovic on the wings for 3-4 games and see the progress on the player.

Agree1 Disagree4

02 Jul 2016 02:00:58
Don't get all the fuss about Markovic from some fans. He hasn't really done anything in Turkey.

Agree0 Disagree1

02 Jul 2016 07:01:55
I am not worried about how much we sell him for, just get rid. I rated the kid as a 17 year old in Serbia, he was rated one of the top kids in Europe. I think he's got all the talent but not the mentality/ bottle to get to the top and stay there. Good luck to the lad.

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Jul 2016 12:58:58
We have 38 league games, no European football and FA cup doesn't really start until league cup is almost over. I wouldn't say that is a hard season for players to be playing most of it. That only leaves a few games and we know we have to do something with the likes of Ojo and Ibe.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2016 12:52:16
3-4 games? Not much of a chance. I'd sooner sell him now, the lad needs to get back playing regular football and I don't think we can offer that.
