not too interested in the lad directly more the cost tbh. Apparently Liverpool have tied down a young lad, 13years of age centre half who plays for lucan, for 1m. apparently he will join on a yts contract. Is that the sort of figures Liverpool have to pay to get a kid from Ireland over and also wait till he turns 16. Bit if a risk. Can any ed shed light on such dealings

{Ed001's Note - sorry I can't.}

Well considering they paid half of that for an older Raheem Sterling i think its rubbish. Who is he? The next Messi? (Another one)

Google Liverpool Lucan and you can easily find out who it is and he's already been playing for us this season. Says it was a £1m contract, not transfer fee. Quite different.

His name is Conor Masterson he went over a few years back. There's another lad that went over from Ireland recently called Glen Mc Auley.

Is there any chance Liverpool could look to take Mark Warburton (ex-Brentford boss) into the set up behind BR or BR's replacement? I'm sure he will be looking for a new managers role but he did an amazing Job at Brentford having been director of football before being manager in last 2 seasons. A lot of his success was in bringing in young players and has strong scouting links in Europe at youth level.
I think he would be a great down to earth addition that would challenge some of the David Brent nonsense that is becoming all a bit too much and must be driving FSG mental.

{Ed001's Note - no.}

He would come if the club doesn't pursue a dof approach because I think he left Brentford along with Frank mcpartland for them going in that direction.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no, McPartland was the DoF there in all but name. He left because Brentford want to sign players based on a stats system the owner created. He owns other clubs that work that way.}

20 May 2015 11:07:34
Fair play eds, shame because they could of waited to do it when mark left as there doing a great job, and it's been working well for years, with the manager who.left for wigan as well

Hi Eds

Since Sterling has made it known he wishes to move on, do you think he has any chance of being offered a new contract at all? i know footballers like rooney have done this in the past, or is it a case of he will be sold now and no more discussions will be held?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - there is a contract offer on the table and discussions will continue for a bit longer yet.}

19 May 2015 17:09:15
So nothings been decided yet either way mate. I just don't see a way back for him after what's been said?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - worse things have been said and resolved.}

19 May 2015 19:53:58
Remember Suarez at the end of the 2011-12 season? He was apparently absolutely dead set on a move, with similar media reports to the current Sterling ones. Then he ended up staying and having a brilliant season with us.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2015 19:43:19
I guess so. what's your gut instincts on him staying/leaving? Wont hold you to it either.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think he has burnt his bridges now, sadly. He has been held up as a scapegoat.}

Hi Ed's,

I would be very happy if could sell rodgers to another club, that would have got us some penny. ( unfortunately that is not the way it works.)

My question is , is there any clubs interested in Brenden Rodgers?

Thank you.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - until he is out of work there will be no way of testing that. There is no interest from the kind of clubs that might consider trying to get him from us, though the likes of West Ham might be interested if he was on the market.}

19 May 2015 16:02:31
Great, I do think there is ambiguity in his chances at liverpool, so obviously teams like newcastle / westham might be interested.

Oh dear, the Benteke rumours are gaining weight. :/

Eds do you think all transfers will depend on who's in charge this summer or might certain others be bringing in certain players regardless?

Thanks very much

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it will depend in part on who is in charge, but some will still be done regardless if it seems to be a no brainer to the club.}

19 May 2015 14:03:30
Benteke is. clutch at straws because anyone else will want over 100k.

Personally providing we adapt i hope he would do well.
I don't presume to know the tactical awareness on how to do this but i'd rather just see Liverpool win and adapt sexy football after, rather than getting hammered by palace at home, Plus missing out on champions league

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2015 14:03:45
Thanks Ed1, so the Benteke stuff could actually be true. Sigh. Did Andy Carroll not teach us anything!? :/

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2015 18:14:23
Nooo, absolutely nothing against benteke at all bur haven't we just had the different type of striker exercise with ballotello and lambert? He's not different, you can't press with him, you have to knock the ball up to him to get the best out of him. Lambert even tried it with playing possession football and he just didn't work inside that system, as soon as Sherwood got in he just went direct to benteke and he has done well.

To get benteke you have to let Rodgers go and the club has to get someone who can use benteke if your looking to invest 30 odd million on him!

Bur eds my question is back to the money side of things which you hate and I have my own issues with not getting costa but going and getting sakho.

For all of us fans we only know what we are told so please take it easy with me but of we are prepared to pay 30/35 million for benteke why can't we go for someone like vietto (who for us fans is valued between 25-30 million?) is it purely bentele would come without champions league but vietto wouldn't or do the club have there own agendas?

{Ed001's Note - Vietto is off elsewhere.}

Question for ed001

Do you know if we will even approach ancelotti? I happen to know that he would be interested in talking to us about the job.

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no approach will be made to him while he has a job at Real Madrid, it is not even certain he will leave there now. The players have made it known they wish him to stay and the right replacement has not been found.}

19 May 2015 15:50:09
If only we could trade Rogers for ancelotti.

Hi Ed, weird question but do you know of any managers that have effectively swapped teams? Ashy77's post just got me thinking about whether it has ever happened.

Cheers,

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am sure it must have happened, but I can't think of an instance right now. I think I am forgetting some instances though as it feels like it has happened.}

19 May 2015 19:58:22
Did Birmingham and Blackpool swap managers last season?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2015 12:36:36
is cabye someone we might look at this summer seams to be linked again

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any interest from Liverpool.}

19 May 2015 12:35:31
I see Sterlings agent has just come out and said that this talk of leaving is premature!!!! What is Ady struggling to find the lad a club now that he has realised that we will not be held to ransome, wATCH THIS SPACE, Sterling will stay and his agent will be sacked and deservedly so!!!! This still does not excuse Brenda bty, I want him gone as well!!!

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - If he refuses to leave and invokes the Webster ruling in December Liverpool will be screwed financially - that is why he has said this.}

19 May 2015 12:58:31
Hey ed002, I read about the Webster ruling and it honestly seems bogus. There seems to be a lot of legal issues around it.

My question is, do the club have the right to sue if such an action is taken? I read celtic's comments about the ruling and that they would sue any player who took that option. I do think it belittles the already ridiculous concept of a contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They could take it to court, but not sue the player. I should say it is really, really unlikely to happen, but as of mid December this year Sterling could indeed buy out the final year of his contract, effectively making himself a free agent at the end of next season. It would not allow him to talk with other clubs outside of the EPL in January though. This is why I have repeatedly stated that if he does not agree a new deal by the Summer I would expect the club to listen to offer - regardless of all of the nonsense spouted by Rodgers on the matter. But I would stress that the chances of Sterling taking such action are very slim at best. If his agent has even suggested this as an option, he needs better guidance. Typically clubs don't like this sort of thing happening and they certainly don't like it happening in the public domain - sadly Rodgers is happy to air all of the in house issues with anyone who will listen.}

19 May 2015 13:03:39
I know you don't discuss figures ed, but what would it take to buy the year of his contract, a years salary or less or how is it calculated?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - His salary.}

19 May 2015 13:06:40
But surely this would have a very negative effect on his global market value, is his agent that short sighted that for a few quid now he could cause him long term damage?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He could demand a £10M signing on fee and significant wages - that is what he might be thinking.}

19 May 2015 13:44:10
Not to complicate things further, but my understanding is that in other cases based on the Webster ruling, the arbitration authorities have stated that the cost of compensation should be the 'actual harm' done to the club by the buy-out of the contract, and not the player's wages.

Would this not 'actual harm' not be the cost of replacing the player or even the lost transfer fee?

Thanks for the insights Ed

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Taking random examples does not add to any argument.}

19 May 2015 19:04:56
But he is not doing any of this for money Ed :-)

After all the 20 year old world beater has a divine right to play CL every year and win trophies!

Joking aside, if he was to buy out his contract and thus become a free agent, am I right in saying that LFC would still be due compensation from his next club due to his age?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - QPR and Liverpool would be due money.}

18 May 2015 17:13:56
Eds are Liverpool interested in Payet

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No.}
