hi eds is there any approach from liverpool to sign adam johnson i think he is underesttimated at city cheers

jordan {Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware there was only interest in a loan move, but we have signed Borini and Assaidi since then. I would have to say, in my opinion, that those two have been signed instead of him. Probably for the best, he doesn't put the effort into training, preferring to spend his evenings training and eating junk. He tires after about 20min of a match and has to show more desire to be a footballer.}

Don't know why we wouldn't be interested in him. You can't possibly say Assaidi or Borini are better then him at the moment and I feel Johnson has unbelievable potential. And also Ed001 I rate your opinions highly but to brand Johnson as someone who just sits at home eating junk food after training is a bit tabloid like of you. Yes it is well documented his attitude needs to improve but I just feel it is such a missed opportunity as it looks like he is back up to the north east to sign for Sunderland for as little as 10 mill. Surely we have 10 mill! Martin O'Neill won't stand for his junk food binging! {Ed001's Note - actually I know the lad from his time at Boro, he likes a drink, he is a bit lazy in training, he just wants to mess about, rather than knuckle down and work at his game.}

But when he is on from ed, he is undoubtedly a top top talent. if br could get the best out of him it would be a steal

19 Aug 2012 22:36:55
Another target is youngster Mbaye Niang from Caen. while this lad is still young he is definately one for the future. Liverpool to bid 4.5m

96 YNWA

We dont need sumone fr futur we need a goalscorer now

He's signing for Everton

We have more or less got him mate, he liked what he saw at Everton when he had his trial and we were impressed with his ability not putting you's on a downer also I think he'll be our last money signing for a long while. Don't start harassing me either.

(Everton Fan)

He's going to Everton

Evening,
Is there any interest from Liverpool in Dries Mertens still? Know that the club was looking at him before the Belgium-England friendly. Think he would be a very nice addition from the market. (Forgive me for, Trying to steer from the Sahin-saga).
Enjoy your day,
#YNWA
-Jordan {Ed002's Note - I don't see Mertens moving to LIverpool - if he moves this summer I suspect it may well be to Bayern Munich although there is interest from Lazio.}

Are Liverpool going sign Quaresma from Besiktas?

19 Aug 2012 22:23:00
Looks like we will make that bid for Dempsey of £7.5mil and a loan offer for Adam Johnson with a loan fee of £1mil and an option to buy for a further £10mil next summer.

Joe Cole has been told he can go out on loan again if he doesnt find a new club.

Adam's future depends on the Sahin outcome.

Spearing will stay.

AZ

That does not fill me with hope. We all know Dempsey is just a marketing ploy from FSG.

Spearings rubbish. Sahin's signing for Arsenal now

19 Aug 2012 22:02:24
Ed, Do you reckon the club are working on more deals that the media don't have a clue about just like the Assaidi signing? {Ed001's Note - yes, I am sure they are. The only time things come to light is when the selling club opens their gobs.}

Reason why this is under the radar is because there's not been much interest in him from big clubs. Duh :)

19 Aug 2012 21:13:18
Rumour says Liverpool have been granted extra funds for a striker? Is this true

M

Sounds like rumour to me

Rednick

Not a chance.

Let's hope so

Yeah, three big issues and 5 gas lighters

You'd bloody well hope so. Hope it's not Darren bent

After the debacle against WBA it would have to be true...unless the owners weren't watching or Rodgers has decided to give Carroll a go...

At this point I'd be happy to have bent. He's a proven goalscorer year after year

Surely Rodgers can see we need one and he can't consider Carroll a true goalscorer he's never been prolific. I'd be all out trying to get Adebayor or as an alternative Holt who can score plenty in the Premier League, we can't rely on our current players

Bent can score with smaller clubs but when he goes to the big stage, he's just that little tad goal shy (points to his time with spud)

Grant Holt? Are you out of your tiny mind? No way do I want ANOTHER second rate 30 something at LFC I'd rather promote Adam Morgan to the first team than have Holt. At least he's young, hungry and a proper red. Owen was 17 when he broke into the first team, I'd like to see Morgan do the same he looked great in pre season. It's about time we finally put our faith in our academy youngsters instead of chucking more money down the drain on overrated players who lack the desire and skill level to elevate LFC back to the top.

More chance of getting blood out of a stone than FSG giving LFC the cash they need for good quality transfers. FSG are using LFC as a cash cow for the Boston Red Sox.

"FSG are using LFC as a cash cow for the Boston Red Sox"..

Well it isn't working too well for them if that's their idea. The £50m loss last season would have been better piled straight into Red Sox.

LFC will not be a cash cow for anyone until we get Champions League football. Until that point, the club will just get by. And even if we do get Champions League, that money must be reinvested in high quailty players otherwise it's back to Europa or worse...

Lfc dont earn enough to be anyones cash cow it wouldnt suprise me if red sox made more than lfc clubs a laughing stock {Ed002's Note - Turnover at the Red Sox is higher than Liverpool at the moment.}

19 Aug 2012 21:40:08
Eds any idea if Barca would be willing to loan or sell Villa? {Ed001's Note - last I heard they wanted rid of him.}

He scored a cracker tonight
He won't leave there

Get a grip kidA. As if Villa would come to Liverpool. He's more likely to go to Everton at this time

Barca wants him go but he wants to stay in Spain.

Why would barca want him out he one of the best strikers in the world absolute tosh that {Ed002's Note - David Villa is available but there is a lack of interest in him due to his recent injury problems and his cost.}

19 Aug 2012 21:26:24
edd the headline on marca says liverpool pushes for sahin loan , is it still looking like arsenal,..
5 GOLD STARS {Ed002's Note - I have given what I know. I have said there is also interest from two other clubs. Please read the posts.}

Sahin is off to Arsenal that has been confirmed by reliable sources. What a shame we do need a quality midfield general and a top goalscorer

Unless Madrid or arsenal have confirmed it then it's not done yet, doesn't matter how reliable the source is

Ed002, like 5 gold stars I was wondering the same and I haven't been on here for a couple of days because I've had a bit of a busy weekend. I completely understand your frustration at having to answer the same questions time and again, but I really don't think it takes a lot of effort to give a brief answer. Your usual answers of "read the posts" or "try the search function" really don't help and can be frustrating to us, the very people that this great site relys upon. I've been reading back thru the posts from hours ago and can't find much and the search function on this just doesnt work. I searched for Sahin and it gave me 3 posts! 3! As you know yourself he's been discussed a bit more than that. To test things I searched for TAYPOT having a fair idea of all the times I got posted and the first time it gave me 5 results and the second time I tried the exact same thing it gave me 2. I'm not having a go, just giving you a point of view of those of us that rely on the great work you and the other eds do. Theres a very good reason so many of us flock to this site day after day. But please understand where we're coming from too.

TAYPOT {Ed002's Note - I don't have the time nor inclination to keep answering the same questions.}

Look at the Ramirez Saga

19 Aug 2012 20:54:32
Ed is it possible we can sign Sahin Still also is there any interest in a striker and a winger {Ed002's Note - It is possible, but unlikely. There is interest in Clint Dempsey - a striker and a winger already having arrived.}

Yes and we've let two strikers go and a 3rd is leaving it would seem, whilst a winger has also gone. Both positions needed strengthening regardless of outgoings.

19 Aug 2012 18:43:17
Tried to post on here again and again, and messages alway seem to not get put up. {Ed002's Note - It went up on the banter page not the transfer page as it seems to be some sort of joke post.}

Joke post!?! Hey steady on, Ed002 is the "comedian" around here!

19 Aug 2012 18:35:02
Eds, could Liverpool move for Llorente, as we desperately need a clinical finisher {Ed002's Note - I think it unlikely as he is edging closer to a move elsewhere.}

Any chance of getting any quality players in rodgers said there was going to be players in soon we are getting linked with players like dawson are we now that bad of a club so far rogers has spent close to 30 million i cant see a improvement think we gonna be rubbish under rogers why let carrol go dont think borini will be that good

Come on are u serious is there any chance we could get llorente in come on we wont even splash 10million on dempsey.who in my opinion bang the goals in for us,where u think money come for llorente,he wouldn even come to us,where going no where fast with fsg and rodgers.

Llorente will join juventus. I am in all honesty, disillusioned with the players he has signed so far apart from Allen who I think is better than Henderson, shelvey, adam, Cole. I would defo keep Carroll. Borini isn't a striker who will bag more than ten a season in my opinion. We seriously need to sign some clinical finishers, striker or winger. A CDM like mvilla or sissoko of Toulouse. That's evident from when we lost Lucas last season. And most definitely a CB! Coates and carra are not up to the job in my opinion. Carra is a legend still. Jamie

Just had a few swift ones with big andy in the sandon and he said hes off to newcastle on deadline day ...dont shoot the messenger !

kenny the king

Why wait until deadline day? Surely better to do it now so we got the funds to replace him. Would also give a new player 2 more weeks to settle in with the rest of the squad.

If he is so sure he is going why wait till deadline day

Rubbish. How the hell is he supposed to know that he's off on deadline day. If he knows anything, it might be that he, sometime before the window closes, is likely to go. Not that "eya mate! newcastle got a deal closed with me, but me and me club is waiting until the 31th for fun".

Lying b******

The moral of this story is don't drink then post.

I Dont believe the post but do believe he will leave transfer deadline day. The reason for waiting until then is Liverpool will not only be limited to who they can replace him with, but they will also be more inclined to accept a lesser offer if as reported he is not in the plans of Brendan.

I have no doubt Andy has been tapped up and told to reject any offers and await a bid from Newcastle at the 11th hour.

Just like we tried to do with Owen when he was with Real Madrid only for him to lose his bottle and agree to go to Newcastle. (possibly a similar scenario with Dempsey) Its a dangerous game but the reason why Transfer deadline day is so busy.

Kev the Red {Ed001's Note - we never tried to do any such thing with Owen at all! He asked if he could return, Rafa told him he had no chance of a return to the club with him in charge after the way he acted.}

19 Aug 2012 17:57:22
Eds, Should we re-sign Michael Owen on a one year contract?
I know he dug his own hole with the United move but he is still a natural finisher and goal poacher would will score goals.
Would our fans forgive him if he gets a hatrick against united or score 20goals in a season?
He is the ideal partner for Suarez and he's free.
What are your thoughts? {Ed002's Note - I don't think a move for Owen would be popular with the fans, nor likely.}

We are desperate for a striker, but not that desperate mate!

Red Lee

Joe cole is more fit than him..so if u for a moment think he would score 20+ goals for us that would be wrong..

Exactly.this is what we need,a natural goalscorer and he's free.

Owen wouldnt be any use to use he wouldnt play enough games hes done

andy08

No we should not sign michael owen, this question didnt even need to be answered by the eds!

He wouldn't be able to play two games on the run

I would take him on a pay as you play deal just to cover them injurys.we need to rise above this hatred of man utd ok so he played for them and what. if rooney decided he was open to a move to liverpool we would welcome him with open arms because he is a great player but why not owen who actually done more for this club than me r anyone who posts in here calling him a traitor which i dont he is.Tommy Irish red

Owen has never scored 20 league goals in season for any club ! (mostly due to injury)

Of course, why would Liverpool want a striker that actually scores goals right now, I know his record for us is amazing, and unfortunately history, but FFS he even scored 17 goals in 52 games for the sc*m and I don't think he started many games there.

Hes a lil rodent !! he ran that contract down n claimed he wud sign no prob. n we only got 8 mil for him , he shafted us , he turned out for that shower n claimed his goal against city was hes best ever, hello he scored 2 in cup final for us, hes better off at everton the rodent
5gold stars
5 gold stars

I think old whiskey nose only signed Owen knowing that we would never have him back after playing for Man U. We need a finisher and he still knows we're the goal is, i'd take the chance. {Ed001's Note - he is past it, he was past it when he forced his way out, why any self respecting person would want the little weasel back is beyond me.}

Owens on his way 2 everton,it will come out tonite,beleive me

Why even post this sh!t again about the little sh!t, surely this rubbish about the
horse whisperer is done and dusted.
Nearly19

Can't agree more with Ed001's comment above, anyone who does want owen back at LFC needs to give their head a wobble. If everyone didnt know he was finished surely he would have a club by now! but no hes sitting on the goals on sunday couch hoping someone will pay him money even though hes crocked!

Meso AWNY (YNWA)

Owen is a traitor simple!

As much as I hate to say it. might be good to have him in our ranks unless we bring someone else in quick

Owen is a traitor? Grow up you person.

YES ,play him up front with Dalglish and Keegan and let Shankly pick the team.

I would never habe owen back at liverpool plus ive heard this morning he's close to going t......EVERTON!

Not surprising considering Owen supported Everton as a kid, like many other LFC players, Carra being one of them!! Owen was brilliant for LFC scored tons of important goals and then Rafa sold him when Owen wanted to stay, that was Rafa's first big mistake in a long line of many others. Owen haters are childish and stupid and not real LFC fans.

19 Aug 2012 17:20:49
Ed you seem quite confident that there is a chance that Sahin will still sign

RedMachine {Ed002's Note - I am not sure which Ed this is aimed at. I have explained the situation as I understand it. For now I see a late offer from Napoli, a rejection of Gala's offer and the player probably moving to Arsenal. We will see.}

Anyone still believing the Sahin story.the guy has moved mehn,he's now with AFC.he wants CL football and there's guarantee he will have it.what a shame.LFC can't attract even average intercontinental players

Im thinking we are gona miss out again its the same reports popping up everywhere most be some truth init like when siggurdson rejected us same thing append,so not looking good

19 Aug 2012 16:14:01
Afternoon Ed, do you know if we have recently shown any interest in Huntelaar and do you think he is still open to a move?

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - Hey Chris. There is no interest from Liverpool that we are aware of, but I understand he is open to hearing any offers made to Schalke. They certainly do not want to sell as it is going well for him in Gelsenkirchen and want him to sign a two year extension to his contract - and he wants to only sign for a further year. However, Schalke would likely sell if he refuses to agree any contract extension begore August 25 - with Zenit and a couple of Italian sides waiting in the wings.}

Huntelaar, now there would be a fantastic addition to the team! Ideal in fact. Worth pushing the boat out for. {Ed002's Note - You have a boat?}

19 Aug 2012 15:45:18
even in BBC football also telling that sahin is close to sign for arsenal as song has gone arsenal will surely try to sign him and mostly we will miss out on him

BBC is usually accurate, time to look at someone else

The fact that sahin has not joined lfc last week meant alarm bells....and it was quite obvious he prefered arsenal over us....affelay also rejected a move to us so thats why we went for saiddi instead........ian ayre said in july the name of liverpool football club alone will attract top players to the club.....seems he is wrong!!

Yeh we were close to signing now were not dnt think so dnt believe everything u read

You do realize that Song and Sahin are two completely different kinds of player, don't you? i would imagine that somebody like M'Vila would fill that gap in the Arsenal lineup much better than Sahin would.

I find it embarrassing us missing out on players all the time because they know we are in huge decline...
TT

Different players, but Arsenal may be looking at a different style. Song and Sahin are both midfielders.

Liverpool have enquired about the position of Adam Johnson

BigMan

Either wing

Brendon rodgers is at the man city game so could be something going on

Brendon rodgers is at the man city game so could be something going on

Or the most logical reason could be he's there with Chris Davies, analysing our nsct opposition.

BR at city game! Don't we play them next week?

Brendan Rodgers is at the Man City game because we are playing them next sunday

He is at the city game because we play City next weekend... scouting opposition

Yeah, we'll bid for him, go close to signing him & then lose out on him. The same old story with Sigurdsson & Sahin. I don't even give a thought to whom we're linked with anymore.

THE SUMON VAI

Johnson is going to Sunderland so no joy there. We should play henderson wide right as it was his best position for Sunderland and he will create things. Also should cash in on Suarez and get someone who can put the ball in the net. He's had too many chances now and carries more baggage than he gives value to the team.

^ please tell me you are trolling? Hendo on the right? Sell Suarez? The only player who ever creates anything? Sure he's not a finisher but then get some one in who can finish.

THE SUMON VAI U are a nugget ! We want players that want to play for us , not the highest bidder. I'm sure all missed targets were offered fair contracts and wages . Just a thought but have you ever thought of supporting Chelsea , would suit you perfectly seeing how you don't like missing transfer targets so much

Rednick

We have someone who can finish in Big Andy, but for whatever reason he isn't being given a chance! King Kenny dropped him twice last season after he scored goals, so no wonder why the lads confidence may be shot! I am backing BR all the way just reckon he should try Carroll in the centre and Suarez and Borini either side!

We should concentrate on what we have rather than looking at other teams and players!

David Craig SSN reporter "In the last few moments we learn that LFC have made an enquiry as to the position of Adam Johnson"

Personally think if this is true and we manage to get him and Dempsey, it'd be great for the squad.

His position is winger!

What is it with Liverpool obsession with going for average British players?

My source says his preferred position is actually reverse cowgirl !

Rednick

Ha ha reverse cowgirl, that made me laugh out loud for real :-)

Watching the game city southampton they said johnson is going to everton

They said nothing about Johnson going to everton on the city game

H that was a good one Rednick :D

Why are all the fans still going on about loan/purchase deals for tello and sahin. for the last 2 years we have needed a goalscorer, maxi and kuyt sold, borini too young/not tough enough at the moment, carroll in quarantine, we dont need more young kids or midfield players.

Eds what are the chances of getting a top notch forward now the manager has said we have limited funds? {Ed002's Note - "Top notch" is subjective of course. If you are thinking Cavani then no, it won't happen. If you are thinking about the re-investment of money from sales and perhaps a Negredo or Lisandro Lopez then perhaps it can happen. In the interim, I would expect some final effort on the Dempsey front this week.}

Ed do you know of interest in lopez or negredo from lfc? {Ed002's Note - They were examples, but examples of players who (a) may be available to move in the next two weeks, and (b) may be affordable if money comes in from sales.}

Ed do you know of interest in lopez or negredo from lfc?

{Ed006's Note - No, we will not be signing either.}

Why do people still believe we can get top strikers? Please do tell me where the funds for players like Higuain, Falcao etc etc. and why would they ruin their career and join us. Stop playing ya footy manager or FIFA.

I couldn't agree more with the poster. Loan signings are often desperate measures, rarely work out and ultimately often prove to be very troublesome on their conclusion. I do agree that a proven striker is needed for the squad.

For me, Lopez and negredo are similar players to AC, so that wouldnt happen. Now Falcao is a definate addition I would make. He is quality. And he is playing in the Europa lge this year just like Liverpool. 30mil could get him! Jamie

30mil would never get Falcao as he cost Atletico Madrid at least 40mil and he has proven his class there so would probably cost more than 40mil

LFC bringing a striker in will depend on whether they can offload Carroll....

Don't undertand where Dempsey's going to fit in. What about Gerrard. Allens already deep with lucas

I would kiss br if we signed popes...

19 Aug 2012 15:02:57
Its just come through on the BBC that Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Nuri Sahin on loan with a view to a permanent move. Hmm thats a real shame if its true :/
KiwiRed

Kinda had a feeling all along that this would happen, rubbish though still, sahin is a top class player. my hopes ofus getting top four are lessened due to this

Typical liverpool, always acting slow on transfers, what do you expect

Never expected him to join us in the first place - if he wanted to come, he would have signed last week! Singred

Absolutely gutted. The only player of proven quality that we've been linked with all summer. After yesterday and now this, someone please post some good news to cheer up a very deflated Liverpool supporter.

RedDen

There is nothing to shame abt...we have to bite the bullet ..arsenal are based in LONDON, offer CL. football . the things may matter for any player .

Never expected him to join us in the first place - if he wanted to come, he would have signed last week! Singred

You could see that happening a week ago when he was linked, simple fact is they are a bigger club with CL, we cannot offer the wages or any sort of guarantee of getting anywhere near 4th they can. We are a side in decline compared to others around us.

Think yesterday's capitulation may have made his mind up.......

To be honest the players we've signed have offered no ambition on the part of the club. The only player we could hope for was Sahin and it was on loan. We destined for mediocrity under these owners.

Cc

We offered bigger wages! Wanted CL

I'm sick of people putting forward the 'face facts' argument as if Liverpool should accept mediocracy. Look at teams that have broken into the top 4/6 over the past few years. City did it by throwing money at it, Newcastle and Spurs did it through relatively cheap buy well scouted buys from the continent. Liverpool only have the funds to do the latter, and Sahin would have been a major coup of this type if it had come off. It didn't, fair enough, but we need to look at alternatives and get to them before big clubs like Chelsea, United and Arsenal. And don't say it can't be done because Hamburg did it in the German league and Spurs have done it in the prem. Stop buying overpriced British talent that don't have the mentality or ability to perform at the top level!

Maybe he is going there but BBC did publish that LFC were closing in on tello and sahin!

Let's see!

Jordan

Who cares, let's move on to someone who wants to play for us, the goons will have another barren season. i don't understand this "must play CL mentality"

Had that sinking feeling since Friday, not the 1st time and won't be the last that a player prefers to play somewhere else ... irrespective of our owners, manager, league position ( Charlie Nicholas, snodin anyone!). Move on, onwards and upwards and onto the next.

It was only about 3 years ago we finished 2nd losing only twice in the league. Our decline since then has been alarming. HOWEVER, people need to stop going on about we need time and whatever. No, we don't. Simple fact is, we haven't bought the right players to replace the likes of Torres, Alonso and co. Fact is, we've spent over 100mil last year on players. That's A LOT of money and shouldve seen us challenging again. Newcastle's current team was assembled on the back of the sale of ONE player. But obviously when we buy the likes of Carroll for 35mil and Downing for 20, how are we ever gonna get back to the top. Had we spent that 100mil wisely, we'd fighting at the top no doubt. I can think of a hundred world class players whose clubs wouldve sold at that price but we went and got Carroll. If Everton can attract Kevin Mirallas and Sunderland Adam Johnson, doesnt it mean there's a problem with our scouts? No problem if we lose out on Sahin, but that's the quality of players we should be going after.
DAni

I´m also kind of sick with our transfer strategy, look at our latest signings. Carroll 35£ Downing 20£ Henderson 16£ Adam 8£ Allen 15£ Borini 12£. its alot of money for "avrage joe" players, thats 100£ for players that hasent made any inpackt of the team. Plus three of them plays on the same position ad shelvey to that. player such as hazard,mata,silva,marin,oscar etc dont cost much more plus the salery is quite simular. its so sad to see these british overrated overpriced players. Kenny D had almost 100 milion £ to get a squad together and ruind it all with his signings, he still lives in the 70´. this club has been raped by people who shouldn´t have anything with football to do. Many people says that Manc and Chelsea are spending teams, lets face it liverpool are exactly the same but the result is a joke. Its gonna be a big challange for BR to clean up the mess RH and especially Kenny did to the club

Have to say k.k.s signings were over priced and under talented but we will never know he should have bin given another year in my opinion he mite have got more out of them as of now it seems like a year wasted as we have to start again with most of the players he bought not good enough to adapt to b.rogers way of playing

The owners saved Liverpool from administration so do not have to spend money ever again. No CL this season

Am gutted and am one of the many deflated and depressed supporters...
TT

So lets put this into perspective; a player who cant get into the first team in spain, has decided to sit on a different bench in london and the whole LFC empire is about to collapse as a direct result!

Have I got that right or am I exagerating again ? He is a good player no doubt, but if he doesnt want to play for us, we dont want that sort of player anyway...end of !

lets move on boys !!

Tel 1949

The fact that he is on Madrid's bench doesn't say much tbh. In fact, Madrid's bench could probably beat our first team as it is. It is not that he doesn't want to play for us. Every player wants to play in the CL. We can't offer him that, Arsenal can. That's all he sees as a player. Not because we are Liverpool and they are Arsenal. If we were in the CL offering the same wages as Arsenal with the recommendation of Mourinho, he'd have been here ages ago. And tbh, I can't even blame him for not wanting to join Liverpool. Put yourself in his shoes for a sec. If you were a quality player right now, with no allegiance to either Liverpool or Arsenal who would you wanna join? If u say Liverpool you're kidding yourself.
DAni

hey eds, do you know if there is anything new on a potential deal for tello?
as you said ayre was in spain enquiring or even talking to sahin and tello but has anything new happened as the talk about him has died down..

thanks :) {Ed002's Note - I am yet to be convinced that Tello would want to move to England. Sorry.}

Where've you been mate we've signed assaidi

I would say that it is very clear that neither Sahin or Tello will sign for LFC. End Of

So are we!!

19 Aug 2012 13:01:11
ED is it true Spurs have enquired about andy carrol? {Ed002's Note - Previously but I would not be surprised to see them make a bid as they are in need of two strikers and are struggling to find any.}

Ed2 so are Liverpool ? {Ed002's Note - Did you read the question I answered?}

I'm led to believe that Spurs tabled a bid of £30m last year, only for us to pip them with a further £5m on top......! I was also told that there was a 25% sell on fee attached, so, for example, if we were to sell AC on to another for £10m, a further £2.5m would be payable to NUFC. I hope to god the latter of the above is not true, it would really show how naive we were last year..

JJ

We shouldn't sell him to spurs on the cheap

Spurs will most prob steal Dempsey from under out nose if we dont hurry up and seal that move

He'll go on the last day of the deadline day, and we will sign

NOBODY, heaven help us now

I am personally a huge fan of Berbatov. But the day Sir Alex sells a Man U player to Liverpool will be the day the sun rises in the west and sets in the east.
DAni

True. I've always rated Berba. He's definately underrated and never gets enough playing time that a striker of his quality deserves...

I thinks its very possible he will now because in footballing terms you are no longer a rival of Man Utd.

Actually the day the sun rises from the west to east is hen its gonna b judgement day

A huge fan of a utd player, mmmm, very interesting

Nothing wrong with admiring the talents of a player from another team....in fact, if only liverpool had more players of the quality of Man U's...hopefully the likes of Allen, Borini and this relatively unknown assaidi guy add the quality we badly need

Lol. Didn't realise this came out as a thread. I was replying to a post on here asking if Liverpool could go after Berbatov considering they got Van Persie and he is now their 5th choice striker. But I liked Berbatov from his Tottenham days, even before he left for united. I always wished we could sign him but obviously his price tag was an issue back then given how phenomenal he was for Tottenham. But I loved his elegance on the ball. He seemed lazy but his positioning made up for that. Anyways I'd personally love to see him play for us as he is a proven goal scorer and would be relatively cheap. But like I said, cant see Red nose selling any of his players to us. Even if we bid 20 mil for Bebe. City may have become their main footballing rivals but our rivalry is special.
DAni

And why do you call that disgraceful old man sir, may I ask? he has neither manners no dignity.

What's the situation with Leandro damiao I think he is exactly what we are looking for upfront a good finisher has bags of skill and links up play well an scores goals for fun surely FSG could afford him as I can't see him costing more than 15m correct me if I'm wrong. would love people's opinion and from eds and Macca opinions thanks.

Bangor eye dave {Ed002's Note - His club priced him at 60M euros, but have now said he is not for sale. Leandro Damiao remains of interest to several clubs including Spurs, PSG, Roma, Sporting Lisbon, Inter Milan and Juventus. Lyon, Arsenal and Barcelona seem to have dropped any interest they had in the player. January 2013 may be a more likely time to move than the summer although with rejected bids from Spurs and PSG on the table, Roma or Juventus may force a summer move - and these remain the most likely destinations right now. So no acceptable bids but perhaps a flurry of activity will happen.}

He was worth more than £15M before the olympics so a golden boot is hardly going to decrease his value is it? Brazil is thriving economicaly so they have no need to sell

mirallas to everton confirmed...

red pg

What's this got to do with Liverpool?

MR EM

Eh.....the fact that he has been linked with us on this website on numerous occasions makes this post quite relevant in the context of putting the Mirallas to liverpool rumour to bed

He's better than downing and we should have bought him, thats what its got to do with us.

Hes a rockstar player who only cost 6 million. hes exactly the type of player lfc should be buying and a price that would leave big money left over for other transfers in comparison to whats been spent on borini or allen or downing or ac. whos to blame for this? rodgers or scouting team or ayre?

Assaidi is better and he was cheaper, will no doubt have lower wages and will not demand first team football. Mirallas is good but a bit over rated, he can't dribble as well and often runs in circles or too far out wide as oppose to anywhere useful, he is however more clinical. Then again I'd also say Assaidi has proven himself in a slightly better league. We don't need both and I think we chose the right option all things considered.

I think Rodolfo should have got the first team job ahead of Mike Marsh, he seems to be more of a talker and motivator than Marsh.
BR probably thinks that he needs Rodolfo to carry on doing the great job he is doing with the reserves, just hope that Rodolfo doesn't think it a slap in the face to see Mike Marsh promoted ahead of him, and decide to leave like Pep.

Borelli

Has Pep left - nothing on official site, and it was Tony Barrett saying it who has not got great form for being right about anything LFC.

Who knows he may be right for a change, but until it's on offical site - I won't believe it.

Paco still has house local. Just a thought.

John B {Ed002's Note - He has left.}

Same here i hope he doesn't think BR is sticking to brits

Shocking. Rodolfo is fantastic. He's the guy behind our good youth system coming to fruition. Mike Marsh, think it's just because he's a local and Rodolfo should have been offered the position at least

Frustration doesn't even cover the mood at the moment. But its not just the nature of our defeat, or our lack of decisive finishing. Its the fans immediate doom and gloom following it. Rodgers will make mistakes along the way and will have to learn from them quickly, but he has emphasised this as a project. Not a quick fix. Therefore he needs the fans to give him a chance to employ his philosophy and get behind the team.
Onto transfers:
Sahin deal im increasingly sceptical will come to fruition (i expect arsenal or napoli to bag him)
One more forward to come in for cert(id love ramirez but unlikely)
If carrol leaves expect another signing with tottenham and newcastle possible destinations.

Keep faith

You talk rubbish, BR have no experience with big club. and to talk abt tika tika its non senses. all we want to see a good footballing team. no matter we lose, if we can put a fight and a good show.35 years as lfc fan and i see the downslide from this end.

We haven't won the title for twenty two years! How long is this "project" going to take? This is football, not geology! I seriously wonder if I will ever see us lift the title again. All talk, no action. {Ed023's Note - Are FSG owners 22 years? They "project" begins with this new era that is upon us with Rodgers in the hot seat. Yesterday was a minor set back..}

Agree Ed 23 how can you blame the new owners for what has happened before them?! They are new to Football and are trying to run it as a business which is how it should be. We nearly went into administration and could have ended up like Rangers, Leeds, Pompey etc. Don't get me wrong I was extremily angry about yesterday too as so much was expected. However we went down to a wonder goal then had a player sent off which was always going to make things difficult whoever you play. BR is not experienced but was Shankly or Paisly? BR has a set vision and needs time to implement it. We do need some more new faces and hopefully these will come in before the window shuts. Lets give BR 10 games before we start calling for his head.
Jake the Red {Ed023's Note - Brilliant post Jake. Feels fitting to hear a fan who has brains! Nobody likes to lose, trust me Rodgers is not happy about it either and he will work twice as hard to get it right and he will expect his staff and the playing staff to exactly the same}

This "project" is 1 game old. What do you suggest then? Sack a manager mid season and face another season without stability.

Lfc in serious decline and have been for 4-5 years bad signing after bad signing

We will come back from this. BR seemed unphased to an extent by the result and said there would be more results like this. If BR managed to show up, completely readjust the technical side of our game and consistantly succeed in doing so from day 1 with the limited Financial means we have then that would be a miracle. We might not end up top

... Pressed send by accident! We might not end up Top 4 but i am convinced that by the end of the season, Even if we have to sell in order to afford one or two more players, wie will be in a better place. Look at what he did with swansea! 5-0 yesterday, having made it to the Premier League only last season, due

The players attitude and commitment after the sending off yesterday was woeful ! Those players who earn more wages a week than I do in 2 or 3 years need to start showing some heart ! No more excuses ! Don't give me that first game of the season carp , we put up with it all last season ! No more talking in the papers and the media about what needs to be done lets see it on the pitch ! Only people to blame is the under performers on the pitch who grace the famous red kit with the liver bird on the chest

BR will need time to get the balance in the team he wants. Look at the under performing players we have, Carroll, Henderson, Downing, Adam, all players signed by Dalglish.
Yesterday was a poor result and BR will not need telling that but to get a team playing good football you not only have to change the ethos but also find players good enough to do it, this takes time. Keep the faith and give BR a chance to do this.

Diggler

Poor poor game but Rome wasn't built in a day an all u arm chair fans on here chattn bubbles do 1 i wasn't happy on the coach on the way home last night but was optimistic bout the city game Y N W A we will raise r Game against city an push on from there. L F C fazak Plse post this proper fan as lot of people on here no jack sh..

Everybody needs to just calm down and stop whinging like little babies. Its only the first game of the season. Rodgers got hammered 4 0 in his first game away at City last season as well and everybody thought Swansea would be relegated but they went on to have a fantastic season by thier standards and budget.

League is about points. Try out your project in the reservers

Ed023 it's bad enough to see lfc fans on here fighting each other without the admins leaving posts about fans who they don't agree with having No brains, if they didn't care about lfc they wouldn't even post.if this current team in your eyes is good enough that's fine but please don't insult your posters who can in their eyes see that fsg haven't a clue what their doing. We as a club are on a downward slide, I have seen Liverpool beaten many a time but they would play lovely football, it's not the case anymore,we would be always be linked with the best players and managers in the world,not the case anymore, fsg are out of their league here and need to move on, I am very greatful for what they did to save us from the banks but that's about it.a 3 nil hammering to a mid table team on the first game of the season is just not good enough. And we were beaten fair and square by a better team forget about the ref crap we were going to lose anyway.their search for a manager was a joke, their sacking of kd was a joke, their choice of dc as dof was a joke, so defend them if you choose but please don't slag us lfc fans who hold a different veiw .
Thanks eam {Ed023's Note - I didn't mean to cause offense, having "no brains" was just a slang term and not in way offensive, I understand people have their views but you cannot down the manager after 1 game where he was very unlucky, there's a lot of work to be done and I think FSG are going about it the right way. They're not going to hand out champions league wages right now simply because we don't have the income (remember leeds?) fans need to be patient. It isn't going to happen over night}

Ed002 I know you often are disinclined to comment on such matters, but here goes nevertheless.
As Brendan Rodgers how do you even begin to try convince players like Nuri Sahin and Tello that Liverpool, in lieu of, say, Arsenal, Milan and even Spurs, is the best option for them, taking into account our spectacular, exponential decline the past few years and just recently in the context of yesterday's game?

As selling points, we have neither the option of genuine competitiveness (see Arsenal and Utd) nor huge fees and wages (City, Chelsea).
The same could more or less be said about Spurs.

Spurs have been fairly terrific the past 3 or so years. They have some excellent, have just built a quality training complex and have great momentum. Yet, they've found it difficult to attract the top-of-range talent. Soldado and Sahin have already turned them down and Damaio looks to be in no rush to join either.

Ourselves we've had our more than fair share of rejections.
Brendan clearly does want some 'major' players in.
But with our recent history of disastrous finishes, uncompetetiveness and inability to pay huge wages, how exactly do we sell ourselves to the Llorentes, Sahins, Munians?
Should we change approach, forget 'major' names and seek out bargains whilst nurturing our own talent in youth structures?

I'd appreciate your take on this ed002. You seem very knowledgeable, thoughtful, insightful and, crucially, calm and objective.

Xolani {Ed002's Note - The selling point is the type of football Rodgers wants to play. If it is complementary to what Real Madrid are doing then Sahin's club will be supportive as he is gaining useful experience - hence the reason some factions at RM want him to move to Liverpool, not least Jose Mourinho and Luis Campos. Other suitors offer other options, Arsenal - Champions League, Napoli - location and style, Galatasaray - Turkey of course. He has effectively turned down Spurs already. As for the Llorente's and Muniain's, I am not sure the opportunity for the club to sell themselves to them will come this year.}

What a load of nonsence over Sahin. Yes I'm use RM would like to use us to enhance their player who in turn will not give two ticks about Liverpool's success when he toddles off back to RM next year! Great idea! {Ed002's Note - You probably need to get on his Twitter account of Facebook and make it clear that Sahin is really not wanted at Liverpool.}

Lets face facts, we will only be able to sign the players that Man U, Man C, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and possibly Newcastle don't want. I think we are destined to be just a top half club for some time and thats it.

Trying to remember last time Arsenal ( 7 tears I think ), Newcastle ( 44 years I reckon ) and Spurs ( 2 League cups only in 20 years ).

So what's your point exactly?

John B

I for one am glad we dont give stupid high wages to a player just because they may be `fantastic`, footballers are over paid and it is the likes of the city`s and chelsea`s in football that make players demand such high wages.
I think it would be fantastic if there could be a maximum wage of under £20000 p/w, then it would make the transfer window intresting.
As for yesterdays performance, I dont think we will see such a performance again, get behind the team, manager and owners.

kevc

The point is that this club is going backwards and has no real prospect of going forwards unless we can compete for high end players, which we can't.

Yes, we are in a slump at the moment but we are still one of a few teams to have played in two ECL finals in the past 10 years which means we are still viewed as a big club. We also are widely recognized as having some of the best fans in Europe and Anfield is one of the grounds with the best atmosphere. We need to stick to our traditions, support our players and manager through bad times as well as good. Criticize constructively by all means but when they are on the pitch support them with all your heart. As long as we continue to do that, players know that if they can help put Liverpool back in contention for the Premiership and ECL then they will enhance their reputations and have a great career whilst doing so.

Bob

Looking at the attacking players our competitors have signed, Man United Have signed Van Persie and Kagawa, Arsenal have signed Podolski, giroud and Cazorla. Chelsea have signed Hazard and Marin. Liverpool have signed Borini and Assaidi.

Borini is not of Liverpool quality, neither is Assaidi.

If you think we are getting top four with these 'budget players', you can think again.
Teams get stronger and we have to keep up. I dont mean spend silly money on unproven British players like last season, but spend money wisely on players that have already proven that they can play at the highest level.
We may not have Champions League but if the money is right we can still attract top players.

It looks to me like these American owners are prepared to let liverpool continue to be a mid table team. Lets hope they see sense and we invest in a world class Striker before the window closes because Suarez is not an out and out finisher. And if we perform like we did against WBA throughout the season, I cannot see the fans tolerating that!

Gerrard, Reina and Suarez must be pretty pi**ed off with the lack of progress being made, and i cannot see them here next season if we do not qualify for the Champions League this season!

Red Lee

Well said Bob, I completely agree.
The problem with the fans is the consumer society we live in.... Buy, buy, buy....
If we had a great season, competed well all over the pitch, finished 2nd and realised we we're only one decent striker short of competing for the league next season. Come the end of the season we kept the team and bought a top striker and that's it.... One player that we needed!!
The fans would be jumping up and down that we only bought one player!!
They want 5,6,7 players, whether we need them or not!
That's not just our club, that's all clubs!

DeV

Wow, a semi literate liverpool supporter ! Never thought I'd see the day

Liverpool has a rich history, is well known and respected worldwide, has the best (in my biased opinion) supporters. He will be guaranteed a chance in the first team to make a name for himself, we have a reputation for making players into superstars such as alonso, gerrard, torres and now suarez... Johndog

When tello and sahin snub us we become the joke in the pl. we ran after joe allen all summer and paid15 million when a back up lb and backup striker were badly needed. We kept joe cole and keep pacheco, suso and sterling off the team. This is a total caos. JohnHenry now cannot blame anyone but himself for this attrocity. {Ed002's Note - The owner does not pick the team.}

I agree with this apart from the part about arsenal being competitive, they have not won a trophy in 7 nearly 8 years, when they finally managed to make the final of the league cup a few years ago they throught it away to a bottom of the table team, each year they are carried into the top 4 by 1 or 2 players and at the end of each year those players leave for a bigger clubs, one year there luck is going to run out and the exact same thing that happened to us is going to happen to them.

Greats site eds,check it 10 times a day. I believe that if we sold carroll that steven fletcher would be a great buy. At the age of 26,steve scored 12 in a relegation season,hard worker of the ball,can hold the ball up and is great with the head.By geting fletcher we could push suares out to the right wing,where i believe would be more effective.Some reds fans need to stop dreaming about players like Carvani,Higuain and Pato coming,it's not going to happen.For 12million pounds and wouldn't be on massive wages u will get a guy that who will working he's socks off for the club that he supported as a kid,and they are the type of players we need to get this club back where it belongs.

Why get rid of Carroll and buy fletcher? All the qualities you list in Fletcher Carroll also has. Very similar players, doesnt make sense.

Fletcher is a poor mans dempsey, good player but rather have clint
ant

Dempsey is better than carroll and fletcher, although fletcher plays nothing like carroll, he has good movement and makes intelligent runs, which is carrolls main defficiency

Are you for real,Steven fletcher instead of andy Carroll would not be a step forward,in fact, it would be going backwards.
Jonny71

Absolutely no way does Fletcher bring more to our side than Carroll. No way.

He is a load of rubbish overrated and 12 mil you have got to be joking me

With Steven fletcher up front we can win the champions league.

Fletcher is way better than Carroll and would be an excellent addition to the team.

I agree that Fletcher would be a decent signing for us, but as backup. He's a fan of the club, has a nose for goal but quite simply £12million for him is ridiculous.

Have we not learnt anything from signing Charlie Adam at all! what did fletcher do prior to his six month purple patch at Wolves last year

Fletcher has been relegated with two teams in last 3 seasons and if he comes we could be next. Time for us to move on as a club and adopt a new philosophy that's without Gerrard, Carragher, Johnson, and Reina. The whole club revolves around Gerrard and until we lose that we will go nowhere!

Fletcher, I would go for Norwich's Holt! That man is a beast!

19 Aug 2012 10:22:26
dempsey will sign this week for 7 million and liverpool will lodge a bid of 7.5 million for jack butland agreeing to loan the keeper back to birmingham on a season loan.

Herd this every week for the last month

7.5 mill i dont think so
5mil tops

Why spend 7.5 million on a keeper then loan him back to the club. We need the money spent else where in the squad. Someone who can put the ball in the net.

That is 7.5m wasted on someone that is going to have no impact on our current season or up coming seasons. we need improvement in the first team

Jack butland's not that good after watching him a couple of times

Hi Eds,

This is for Ed002 in particular...is there any word on Reina leaving and any other 1st team keeper coming in?

For me Reina's hunger and desire hasn't been there for 18months or so, he has a constant look on his face, that he just isn't interested and I'm sure we could raise some significant funds and bring in a keeper of quality who is hungry..

Cheers

Ray {Ed002's Note - I don't see Reina leaving in the next couple of weeks but I would think that if Liverpool fail to make it back in to the Champions League he might want to reconsider his situation at the end of the season. I don't know what money would be raised from a sale, but suspect it would be less than fan's expectations. Sparky is taking advanced Spanish lessons - @WonderDogSparky }

Pepe is still class, wouldn`t swap him for anyone, he has his moments but so does every other keeper in the world

These posters must be Fenway.
"Lets sell one of the best keepers in the World, to bring in more dross"...
Amazing.

I dont think the post says, let's sell one of the best keepers in the world, and bring in dross..

Reina is world class, but if he doesn't look interested, and their heart isn't in it, ur better off with a Sunday league keeper...

Case and point - Torres, he didn't fancy it for 12-18 months, that was clearly obvious, but simpleton posters like the "dross" post, would deny it and bury their head in the sand, then when he went, jumped on the bandwagon, by saying, I knew all along he wanted to leave...the case with Torres was, his chances of costing us a goal or 2, due to having a sulk, are/were lower than if its a goalkeeper...

If Rodgers for example can find a "vorm" in this day and age when the FIFA/FM boys had never heard of him, I'm sure he can spot another one (if need be of course)

Who wouldn't reconsider. It's like we're not pushing that hard to get back into the champions league

19 Aug 2012 09:59:18
Rumours in Sweden say John Guidetti has been offered to Sunderland. 7 mil. Wish for a hijack...That guy is good and has the attitude and work ethic to improve to great.

Think he would rather go to Sunderland to work with O'Neil

No people just hijack our deals

19 Aug 2012 09:49:52
Eds, WHy is Dempsey situation dragging on? Are we still interested in him? {Ed002's Note - There was no agreement over price - something needs to give to get a deal done.}

What is Fulham's asking price? {Ed006's Note - around £8m}

After yesterday's woeful finishing I'd have been if a mind to stump up the cash for someone who actually can put the ball in the net! Something's just ain't width the agro, get it done!

Oh men i think we should give them 8 million if they won't go below it. We really need quality finisher like him

That something being Charlie Adam?
woeful player and turning circle of a bus!

Liverpool are trying to get Dempsey for £5M believing if he forces a move, is hell bent on joining LFC and leaves it late enough in the transfer window then Fulham will have to cash in.

De Niro

Bellamy Kuyt and maxi scored goals for us last season ! If Andy is not in Liverpool's plan we need to strengthen in front of goal end of !

Dempsey is a clown and his attitude stinks

19 Aug 2012 09:41:26
Reports on web and papers A Johnson to Sunderland 10 mill are we interested?, just seems figures banded around earlier 15-20 I know that's just talk at the moment but seem's low for him.

Overpriced at 10m.

John B

Aj going to everton on season long loan once sinclair signs for city in next 48 hours. Was agreed when rodwell left. Paul c

Eds,

Do you know what's the current situation with Iker Muniain? I used the search function and I understand that Athletico Bilbao wanted to sell him in January. Will he be moving before the transfer deadline or is Athletico Bilbao planning to keep him for another season?

Great site by the way. Keep up the good work.

-Johna {Ed002's Note - Rumours abound of Juventus and Palermo interest.}

19 Aug 2012 07:11:52
Ed002, in your opinion, which club do you believe nuri sahin will end up?
Thanks
LFC-aussie {Ed002's Note - It would be guesswork. But of the main contenders I would doubt Galatasaray; his preferred destination is very clearly AC Milan but they have not made an offer to Real Madrid for him; Real MAdrid would prefer he move to Liverpool but his agent has been pushing for a move to Arsenal. Do not be surprised to see a real push from Napoli.}

If that wasn't confusing enough try asking another question ;)

Reports in Spain say he WILL join us. I have been told there will be no option to buy but a maximum fee will be set if Real do decide to sell after loan.

De Niro

18 Aug 2012 23:42:13
hi eds first off great site i'm always checking up on it for the latest rumours i was just wondering after the showing today and all of last season do you think we will be actively seeking a striker who can score or is borini the man br has employed for the job? if so who have we been looking at? thanks

NE red {Ed001's Note - it depends on what you mean by a striker, we are certainly looking for another forward.}

He means a person that can kick that round thing into the net. Someone that can school our players how to do it as well.

19 Aug 2012 00:01:26
LFC are looking at 23 year old Gabon National from Saint Etienne Aubameyang

Would like to see him at liverpool - quick good feet and a finisher - but would have to be under the radar signing like our new morrocan

Actually a really good young striker

19 Aug 2012 00:02:29
50/50 source but info received is as follows:

Carroll to leave to a top 6 team - this leaves Newcastle and Spurs i'm guessing. I'd say Newcastle, but Spurs need a striker more? Doubt he'll go to West Ham, Spurs however is a different kettle of fish.

Adam to Fulham - 6m. Out of the lot, this is the one I'm most unsure on - Fulham were not too chuffed about the Dempsey saga- and although he wants to leave I could see him staying, Charlie Adam doesn't want to go to Fulham at present either - Villa are interested though too.

Downing - nothing, Spearing - nothing, Henderson - nothing.

On the incoming signing - Been told it isn't Sahin... but thats all. Sahin IS an LFC target but he's also quite publicly an Arsenal target, and theres interest from other top European teams a bit closer to home than we are - this might sway it away from us. Next signing is a forward. Not really seeing where he'll fit in though...

Os Red

Not sure where a forward will fit in?! Are you having a larf? We BADLY need someone to put the ball in the f**king net!
Luis had 2 gilt edged chances to score and fluffed his lines both times!
We need a poacher!
5uarezTimes

Need something to poach first

Yeah i think carroll has to go in order too meet his ambitions

"Carroll has to go to meet his ambitions"!!

I would have thought his first ambition was to play well for LFC and score some F***ing goals. That would play a big part in meeting his ambitions for a start.

If carroll had anybody that could cross a ball to him or even create something then you would see the best of him again if he goes to spurs he will score 20+ goals easily

Hi guys thanks for the replies - in essence of the forward and him not fitting in, my comment refers to how BR plays the game... we have suarez and borini who, I think are our given strikers this season. the right hand spot (if we play suarez centrally) is where we need to strengthen - downing and cole aren't good enough IMO - but we've just signed assiadi so god knows which side he'd play on. From what I can gauage from my source, Carroll is as good as gone - but I'd have liked to seen him centrally with Suarez on the right and Borini on the left, it would certainly give us a new dimension, and if you look at the chances suarez had yesterday - i actually think caroll in those positions, particularly the header - would have burried them.

Hi ed's im sick of all this Sahin speculation, is he moving or not? if so when? {Ed001's Note - yes and when he has made his decision where to go.}

I totally agree

Ed001, I have heard he has made his mind up and it's finances holding the deal up. Our wage bill is a real issue. We need to lower the wage bill before he can sign. JD. {Ed002's Note - It is not that holding up the deal.}

Arsenal. Signings should have been done and dusted by now. Everyone else has
