Ed01. Is there anything in the Medel rumours. Lazy recycled journalism?

Cheers pal.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, I will have to check, I would never take any notice without triple checking as he is one of my fave players.}

18 Jul 2016 19:55:41
I'd like this to happen if only to make an ed happy!

18 Jul 2016 20:34:21
Medel would be a quality signing. He's an utter nutter on the pitch, his aggression and commitment is fantastic. I remember his performance for Cardiff vs man city where he basically ran the show. He's a pivotal part of that great Chile team.

Agree6 Disagree5

18 Jul 2016 20:40:03
i think he would be a great signing and upgrade on lucas. could cover for centre back position if opponent allow us, if we want better protection in away games he is the answer as he is not only good defender of the back 4,he is solid disturber of the ball, aggresive and good positioned. really like him as a player.

18 Jul 2016 21:09:09
I like the sound of can and Medel in the middle.

18 Jul 2016 21:38:24
Thanks ed01.

I remember you rating him a couple of seasons ago, has he performed in Italy? I believe that's where he went?

Let us know when you know buddy.

Cheers.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - he certainly did in his first season, but I never followed his progress last season.}

18 Jul 2016 22:46:35
It makes more sense than signing this lad from Augsburg.
Medel is a very good midfielder as well as being a capable emergency centre back.

18 Jul 2016 22:17:54

19 Jul 2016 01:07:36
Actually Ron, I'd say it makes more sense than Wijnaldum.

Agree4 Disagree2

19 Jul 2016 01:50:43
Now this is a signing I'd love to see, but some how I don't see a deal happening.

Agree1 Disagree3

19 Jul 2016 07:17:57
But why would we sign a DM when 99% of people on here said we don't need one? They're an irrelevant player according to most. There isn't a tougher tackler in the business so surely he would be a needless buy whom most would rather us do without?

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - he is more than a defensive midfielder, he is a playmaker from deep.}

19 Jul 2016 07:51:35
Eds that doesn't stop the fact that DM, deep lying playmakers were all mentioned in the same breath with most saying they were nothing more than a modern fiction I think Ron called them. An uneccessary anacronism. Like you eds I like the guy and think his kind of player is what's been missing from our midfield. Plus he can play CB if needed. Just a shame everything points to it being untrue.

Agree3 Disagree2

19 Jul 2016 12:08:38
Np I was one of the people I think you're inferring about. However my point anyway was there's no point having essentially a third cb playing in midfield who contributes only when we are without the ball. I would need a bit of convincing regards medel however he is certainly capable of starting attacks and making runs from deep to the edge of the box that results in goals for him also. He does while maintaining good positional discipline and would slot in a midfield 2.
This is completely different from say playing a midfield 3 where you have one basically playing as a free roaming cb who doesn't get on the ball much and doesn't contribute to an attack. This in my opinion is a waste of a player in a 11 where the 2 in front should be competent enough to not be baby sat through a game because they have no positional discipline when without the ball. Of course when you have a strong midfield 2 like this you can then field an extra winger/ attacking midfielder/ striker which should contribute more to the team as a whole.

Hi Ed 01 or Ed 02, have we actually dropped our interest in Chilwell?

Sometimes I do not wanna agree with Ed 02 about Klopp but the signing like Caulker and GW makes me rethink. Please God hope its not true.

Believable1 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - There is interest but an unwillingness to pay the asking price.}

18 Jul 2016 17:42:15
Eds realistically, are we actually faced with the prospect of Moreno being our first choice left back this season?

Because if that is the case, something somewhere in the anfield coaching department/ managerial team/ higher archy is wrong.

It's been well documented everywhere about Moreno's faults, he has been personally responsible for a number of goals, most notably in the Europa league final.

If this is the case it is a statement to lfc fans about the lack of our ambition.

(P. s) I am anticipating your reply will be more critical of my support for the player and team in general which I accept and understand.

Agree8 Disagree3

18 Jul 2016 18:22:26
Who would you like to see Lfc sign for that left back position because as far I can see there are limited proven choices available?

Agree4 Disagree2

18 Jul 2016 18:38:12
Anyone defensive first. Even a loan of a 30-33 yesr old to get us through this season until chilwell price comes down next year.

Agree0 Disagree2

18 Jul 2016 18:47:07
If Klopp thinks that Moreno can improve on his performances from last season then that's good enough for me, he`s still young so heres hoping.

Agree8 Disagree4

18 Jul 2016 18:48:13
There are plenty of proven left backs, who could well be persuaded to join LFC, for some reason we believe we don't have to pay high prices for good players. However extortionate for mediocre players.

kolasinac
Hector*
Gaya
Erkin
Bernant

All Left backs better than Moreno.

Agree6 Disagree3

18 Jul 2016 18:48:44
I'm not paid thousands of pound to scrutinise players, so opinion doesn't matter! Lfc management is s paid big money to do this and if it is beyond they're capacity to sort this problem, what does that say!

Agree1 Disagree2

18 Jul 2016 18:52:23
But Moreno is poor, so very poor. Even a mediocre left-back would be a huge improvement because he has been such a liability. It would be absolute incompetence to start the season with Moreno as 1st choice left-back.

Agree3 Disagree6

18 Jul 2016 19:00:43
Maybe the Eds can give a better list of LBs out there. There good ones out there it is just going to cost a lot more money if you want someone proven. When we purchased Moreno couple of years ago everyone was excited, especially after the goal scorer against Tottenham.

I mentioned Eder Alvarez Balanta, he is a CB, but can play any where along the back four. He also just moved to FC Basel.

Ghoulam from Napoli who is pretty good.

Jonas Hector, Ricardo Rodriguez and Jose Gaya, but in those you are getting into the 20m plus range.

Agree1 Disagree2

18 Jul 2016 19:50:22
Its all very much quoting LB's who are better than Moreno but it may be the likes of Jonas Hector simply don't want to come. Klopp has made it clear he only wants those who buy into the programme. So I don't think this has anything to do with money. If a top player becomes available and wants to come we will pay the price.

Agree2 Disagree1

18 Jul 2016 20:34:58
Albeit in a lesser division, the bits I saw of Chilwell excited me like when watching Gomez for first time. I hope we get him!

Agree2 Disagree1

18 Jul 2016 20:32:05
I wouldn't agree that there are plenty of quality LBs available to Liverpool. We don't have all that much draw to quality players and Klopp doesn't want to spend big on an average LB to only have to buy another in a years time if were playing my CL. I would rather we just stick with Moreno and Gomez (or even Clyne) for this season, make CL and buy a properly quality LB for £20m next season. Any opinion on that eds?

Agree4 Disagree1

18 Jul 2016 21:58:48
I like Jonathan silva but much like Moreno his defensive duties tend to come second to a more supporting role p.

Agree1 Disagree1

18 Jul 2016 22:47:13
Can't we just tap this Chilwell up? 😉.

Agree2 Disagree3

18 Jul 2016 23:01:19
Assfg, how will you make CL with a young inexperienced and injury prone CB at LB and a completely awful defender an ATM for goals like Moreno?

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2016 23:56:41
How do we know he's not going to play Flanno or Gomez at left back next season? How do we know if Moreno only played there last season because there was no other option? There's too many people these days who think they know better than the highly experienced staff who are paid millions to make these decisions. Just relax, it'll be alright on the night.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 00:56:12
Why dun we go for Ryan Bertrand then?

Agree1 Disagree3

19 Jul 2016 08:40:10
Everyone seems to forget flanno can play there and we have brad smith.

Moreno isn't the best but if a player doesn't want to come we can't sign them.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 10:24:18
Sure thing. Another Southampton player. Didn't take that long for one of their players to be mentioned.

Bertrand is a decent left back, doesn't get found wanting defensively and is capable going forward.

Ante Coric has today started following Klopp, Firmino and Liverpool on Instagram. Could he be one of the imminent three?

18 Jul 2016 15:49:37
Scratch that he's also following justin beiber. Hope it falls through haha

Come on liverpool pull this one off. This is the lad rhat broke bayerns scoring system for grading academy players, the only player to acore full on all.

Just a question though, what imminent 3?

Agree12 Disagree4

18 Jul 2016 18:04:47
He's more what we need than wijnaldum. More of a midfield player rather than another forward.

Agree4 Disagree2

18 Jul 2016 18:54:55
Paulo what is this scoring system Bayern have? I'm very naive and never heard of it - how does it work? Any links would be great - I typed in some stuff on google but just got links about their academy in general.

Agree0 Disagree1

18 Jul 2016 20:34:17
At risk of sounding totally naive, but this kid turns absolutely incredible on football manager. They have been known to successfully predict good players. Have never watched him properly buy I'm hoping Klopp can pull this off!

Agree2 Disagree1

18 Jul 2016 20:47:29
seano it was reported in croatian media that ante had perfect score in all categories of trial for midfield player and no player ever achieved that. He is wonderfull guy and talent that excites you with every touch. would easily get 20 games in first season with his quality if he adapts quickly on life in England but with lovren, grujic, buvac and markovic all speaking similar languages that should be no problem. i would describe him as mixture of iniesta and david silva (not on that level lol) but has everything to be there (interest of barcelona, guardiola, bayern speaks for itself) If we promise him gametime we will be ahead of everyone.

Agree2 Disagree2

18 Jul 2016 13:28:39
Apparently the club has confirmed Sakho will wear No 3 shirt which means he stays.
With Klavan coming in, All three of Ilori, Wisdom and Lucas is off clearly.

Believable4 Unbelievable11

18 Jul 2016 13:31:25
Why is Lucas clearly off? He's a central midfield player.

Agree16 Disagree4

18 Jul 2016 14:00:10
With the amount of midfielders we have I think his only hope was as a rotating cb/ cdm which is what Harry is getting at and the squad needs to be trimmed somewhere.

Agree3 Disagree4

18 Jul 2016 13:55:12
Can, Hendo, Grujic, Milner, Wijnaldum, Brannagan, Stewart and we play only 2 in the middle most of the time.

Agree4 Disagree7

18 Jul 2016 14:57:56
Not being negative towards the lads but Lucas is ahead of Brannaghan and Stewart. Milner plays out wide more than he does cm.
Lucas has looked very sharp during pre season to be fair (I've watched 2 live) . Never mind the level of the opposition, he clearly has stepped his game up.
And probably due to lack of strikers more than anything but we have been setting up with a clear 4-3-3 formation. Don't see klopp working on a formation for no reason.

Agree5 Disagree1

18 Jul 2016 15:02:06
Wijnaldum, have I missed that confirmation?

Agree3 Disagree1

18 Jul 2016 15:11:13
Apparently he's offered to sign all of the new season shirts already purchased with the no.17 on as a gesture to apologise to all of the fans who bought the shirt, might be simple but shows he cares about the club and the fans, got to love him he's a top class fella.

Agree12 Disagree1

18 Jul 2016 15:21:27
I'd imagine Wijnaldum would play in the 3 behind the striker, no?

Agree1 Disagree2

18 Jul 2016 15:29:21
GW is not yet a LFC player and you are already mentioning him. There is no confirmed interest in the first place. Whatever you feel or read from the tabloid becomes news. The lad is useless and I'm sure Klopp is well aware of that. GW and Sissoko are not confirmed targets.

Agree3 Disagree2

18 Jul 2016 18:13:38
Yes ginger, and that's the problem we don't need another player that plays the 3 behind the striker. A mistake Harry has made I think is that wijnaldum actually doesn't play in the central midfield role like the like of hendo, can, Stewart etc so he would actually be competing with coutinho, firmino, mane, Milner, lallana, ojo, marko. We are far too overstocked even if marko was to leave or ojo on loan or something. I just don't see any signs of lallana or Milner leaving so it makes no sense unless at least 2 players leave.

As for midfield, it is a position we are in bed of more quality. I'm talking about central midfield. With the likes of Allen and Lucas mooted to leave, Brannagan, Stewart largely untested at the highest level, grujic, hendo and can seem to be our first choice midfielders. So if we persist with using the youngster for the midfield, why not in the more forward positions and centre back?

I hope GW doesn't happen even though I think he's a decent player, it just makes the transfer window even more senseless. We need a central midfielder and left back that is all. Use that money for that.

Agree1 Disagree1

18 Jul 2016 18:53:27
GW is getting a lot of stick on here, while at PSV a lot of teams were after humour off by an injury, not being the kind of person who lives by stats but his for last year speak for themselves. Probably better than those for most of our midfielders last season. I think he's a good buy but my concern would be where he fits in. We've paid 30 odd for mane, United are looking at 100 for pogba, we got 15 for ibe. This season prices are all inflated, Newcastle rightly so want their share.

Agree1 Disagree1

18 Jul 2016 19:57:47
If Wijnaldum signs I hope he is played at left back. Left back at Melwood.

Agree3 Disagree3

18 Jul 2016 21:41:37
Why are people including GW in our list of midfield players. He plays for Newcastle!

Agree4 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 18:50:23
Two thoughts, one Lucas, as he gets older, isn't going to suddenly discover the extra yard of pace he lacks that means he ends up committing fouls in danger areas and two the likes of Brannaghan are going to remain untested at the highest level until we have a squad that means they get some games. But, if we're going to let Lucas go then it would make sense if it was actually because we have a direct replacement for him.

18 Jul 2016 13:02:10
Absolute tosh! Why would he leave Roma and come to us? Let alone the huge transfer fee and wages required. It looks like wiljnaldum is the midfielder we are looking to sign. It amazes me that we wouldn't pay what Udinese asked for Zielinski but pay well over the odds for wiljnaldum.

Agree4 Disagree1

18 Jul 2016 13:27:27
He rejected Chelsea and I see not a chance in heaven he would welcome any interest from Luverpool.

With the signing of Klavan imminent perhaps Gomez will be used as cover for RB/ LB?

Theres rumours Clynn might be on the move or perhaps an LB now won't be coming in?

Sakho and Lovren both picked up a lot of Niggles last year, Gomez is returning from long term injury and apparently Matips injury record isn't the best so I think Klavan is a sensible addition.

I do fear it spells the end for Lucas though as he won't be needed as cover for CB and with us clearly in the Market for another CM his playing time will be limited.

Believable12 Unbelievable3

18 Jul 2016 11:40:46
While not a critical signing, Klavan makes some sense to me, I wasn't completely comfortable with the idea one significant injury and we'd be with Gomez as our backup CB on the bench. As talented as he is, he's young and just recovering from an ACL injury, so makes sense to have someone like Klavan who as a bonus can cover other positions too.

Gomez I'd love to see given a shot at RB, LB or CB in cup games and selective PL games once proven his recovery and hopefully kicks on next season with a bit more experience. If we go this route though, spells the end for Wisdom and Illori and perhaps even Smith (Klavan can play LB)

Lucas I can see as a backup to Can and/ or Hendo in deep midfield.

Agree6 Disagree5

18 Jul 2016 11:59:00
I wasn't aware klavan can play LB. If that's the case then I think this is our defence done for the summer. Klopp stressed he wanted his signings in before the tour.

It will be a big season for flanno and Gomez on the fringes to try and push themselves into the picture somewhere along the back 4.

Agree3 Disagree1

18 Jul 2016 13:14:19
We would sign a LB without a doubt and klavan is signed to cover CB's in necessary.
