Eds, with arrivAl of Matip in the summer were over loaded with centre halfs, Sakho, Lovren, Skrtel, Matip, Toure, Llori, Gomez, even Wisdom. Obviously Toure will move on but surely it means Llori will be moved on and who else do you think please?

Believable1 Unbelievable19

{Ed001's Note - Toure. Wisdom is not going to be a centre half, though there is a very good chance he will go in the summer. Gomez will stay. The rest have the next few months to convince Klopp which of them deserves to stay.}

15 Feb 2016 19:05:26
Ok mate even Sakho and Lovren have some convincing to do? Thought Klopp rates them both highly, or is it that he sees them 2 as the best of the bunch?

Agree1 Disagree15

{Ed001's Note - the best of the bunch we have.}

15 Feb 2016 19:06:01
I have a feeling Skrtel and Toure will be the ones moving on while Ilori will stay as a squad player. Sakho and Matip as first choice CBs with Lovren, Ilori and Gomez providing cover. Wisdom is as good as gone with Clyne and Flanno ahead of him in the pecking order for RB slot.

Personally I can see sakho going, although he's done ok since coming he's hardly set the world on fire.

Also I think we would get a decent fee for him to find a replacement or spend of other areas of the team.

IMO, Sahko and Lovren will stay. Skrtel for me, should be the one to go along with Toure of course.

15 Feb 2016 21:12:32
I'd rather we sold all of toure skrtel sakho Lovren than none of them. Would matip Gomez ilori plus one signing be worse than what we have?

15 Feb 2016 21:20:59
I haven't seen Klopp dropping Skrtel this season for any other CB. You could blame on any player but the fact is we have been conceding goals up down and center in his absence and Klopp would have a note on it.

Sakho takes a few games to get going after injury.

He's still learning but has still got tons of potential.

It's a shame he never had a Sami type player to learn from, as it appears that many of our defenders are out for themselves.

Yes, he's not a kid, but I can't help but feel that he's never had a true opportunity yet. Remember, after a good run of games the Kop sang his name.

He still need time, especially coming from France and suffering his little injury set backs.

Got to stay!

15 Feb 2016 23:57:19
I haven't given up on Sahko and Lovren. Skrtel? I gave up on him since last season. The fact that he hasn't been dropped means nothing. He's the one with the least upside and improvement margin. Sahko, Lovren Matip and Gomez still have time to get better. That ship sailed years ago for Skrtel.

Agree16 Disagree17

16 Feb 2016 00:18:14
Sahko won't get anywhere near the team next year. Worst CH at the club. Ilori looked ok last week I liked the way he was organising Only West Ham but the same West Ham that took the " first choice" pair to school.

With toure leaving, I would only sell skrtel and keep the rest. Sakho and Lovren have shown glimpses of being good defenders until injury has stopped their progress. Ilori and Gomez are good backup, with potential.
I would focus on the fullbacks, with Clyne and Moreno needing to step up or shipped out, and a new first choice keeper with migs also being sold. I also think that more work should be done on defensive midfield to protect the back 4.
The rest of the squad needs trimming with Milner and Allen to leave from midfield and balo, lallana and benteke to leave from attack. I like lallana, but I agree with ed1 in that he slows things down and takes too many touches, but he is a good player.
With markovic to come back after his loan spell, we have the makings of a good squad and with klopp having a preseason with the squad, we could make huge strides forward next year.
In my opinion we do not need to buy too many players and go through another period of transition, with the keeper being the priority and maybe fullbacks if they can't cut the mustard but nothing else is needed.
As the saying goes in trading places, it's time to sell, sell, sell.

If one of Sakho/ Skrtel staying as back up I would say Sakho is more likely to leave as he has been known to sulk in the past when not getting first team football.

Agree2 Disagree17

{Ed002's Note - Skrtel and Sakho play in different positions.}

16 Feb 2016 14:00:43
Martin Skrtel, Lloyd Jones, Kolo Toure and Andre Wisdom all to leave along with Adam Bogdan, Jose Enrique, Joe Allen, James Milner, Joao Texeira, Luis Alberto, Mario Balotelli and Christian Benteke. These departures will free up an obscene amount of wages and we will be able to strengthen the areas that we are lacking in quality.

For me my mind was never fully made up on Sakho and having seen him in recent weeks he's been abysmal, even against Villa I witnessed him lose at least 3 headers to the likes of agbonlahor. He's been back from injury for long enough and his form is showing no signs of improving. He would be my choice to go and keep Skrtel, Lovren, Ilori, Gomez and Matip.

Lovren and Matip with Gomez and Illori back ups with another addition in the summer. Skrtel, Sakho, Toure to go!

Agree1 Disagree9

16 Feb 2016 22:02:18
I honestly don't see LB or RB as a priority in the summer. Moreno has made mistakes-- and I sometimes question his football IQ-- but he has unreal pace and creates a tonne of chances. He needs more composure in the final third but that will come with experience.

Clyne, too, needs to improve going forward but has been very reliable defensively.

Clyne and Moreno have played a tonne under Klopp; he clearly rates both players.

We have far more holes elsewhere.

We need a new GK. Another forward-- in the Teixeira mould-- with power and pace who can play wing, CF, or attacking mid-- if need be. Probably also need a box to box central midfielder, who can play as a DM or CM, depending on need.

I think too much is being read into Skrtel absence while we concede being to his benefit. The only one I think who has benefitted from being absent is Gomez. Considering his age, performance completely out of position and potential to improve I'd be stunned if he stays. Skrtel I'd expect to move on and Toure is going. But I'd be surprised if we turned down good money for either Lovren or Sakho, especially if it raised funds for someone better. The problem is who? The only 2 leagues I've seen where you've got similar football and a chance to hit ground running are here and Germany. Not sure a Spanish, French or Italian defender would be prepared for the kind of smash and grab football the majority of English sides will throw at them. For a guy who played zero football for the first 4 months of the season Illori has done OK and has age on his side as well so might stay but if we don't sign a dominant CD I think we'll struggle again next year.

Hello Eds and Reds.
Rumor.

Liverpool will sign Norwegian Midfielder Havard Nordtveit in the summer.

Have you heard anything about this Ed02

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable18

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool showed interest in Nordtveit back in January 2012. It was suggested in Germany in 2012 that Arsenal might look to buy the player back at one time, that the interest of Sunderland would lead to an offer. However, he is out of contract at the end of the season and the only side who has shown an interest so far is Borussia Dortmund - but unlike non Bundesliga sides, they cannot approach him at this time. Any suggested interest from Liverpool right now seems to me to be well wide of the mark.}

Hi ed002,hve you any idea about plans for our cm area in the summer? Can see Allen and Lucas being moved on, any idea on plans for Grujic or who might be coming in?
Thanks as always for the work you guys put in!

Believable0 Unbelievable14

{Ed002's Note - I don't think there are any plans for Lucas to leave right now and with Henderson, Can, Lucas, Milner, Stewart, Allen, Brannagan, Rossiter and Chrivella all playing in an area (where only two would typically start) and Grujic arriving I am not sure it will be the priority area where the club will look to make changes in the summer. I do however agree that Allen may well leave. If Lucas were also to leave and a decision made not to promote any of the youngsters then perhaps the club would look to this as more of a priority.}

15 Feb 2016 10:33:24
Problem is out of those names and established first teamers only Can is good enough long term.

Agree2 Disagree14

16 Feb 2016 10:13:40
I don't understand how anyone could say that out of our CMs only Can is good enough long term. Lucas has been a mainstay in the side for years, successfully proving people wrong time and again and twice finishing 2nd in the league. Henderson's been great at providing the energy that we need and was another crucial part of the side that finished 2nd under Brodge. I agree that allen (who has improved recently and is a tidy player) may be a little out of his depth with us, and Milner's best role is clearly out wide where he played his best football for City and he may be moved on in the summer but Can has been one of the most inconsistent of all of our players this season. He may end up being a good player for us and clearly has potential but there's no way that you could trust him to be the main option in CM - he needs players like lucas around him to give us that insurance for when he makes a careless pass. Other than Grujic I don't see us making any other midfield signings.

Agree2 Disagree5

16 Feb 2016 23:39:21
Cm I'm happy with can, Henderson, Lucas and the new kid. With a load of youngsters needing a chance why buy anyone else there. 2 positions. Anymore would mean be rediculous.

Agree1 Disagree1

17 Feb 2016 08:38:46
Depends upon ambition doesn't it? Lucas has been a mainstay in a team - bar one season - that has regularly been a 6th-10th ranked team. If we want to be a top 6 or top 4 team next season how many of those players will improve? Lucas' lack of pace is the issue, he knows what he's doing and you an get around his limited passing range but against teams with pace he is a yellow/ red card waiting to happen. But as with CB none of the current players can fill that role. Chrivella was mentioned previously as being a better fit there than Rossiter but I haven't seen him enough to know if he would be there next season.

Based on the 2 games against West Ham and appearances earlier in season there is clearly a good bit of potential in the under 23 bracket at the club but do we play them and take a year or even 2 of development or bring in players who could end up blocking that development?

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Feb 2016 03:11:46
that is the 64million dollar question and the sort of choices faceing klopp. imo unless they are a massive up grade on what we have I would use the youngsters. one last point, I do feel we need a goalscoring midfielder though some one who can score 10-15 goals.

18 Feb 2016 11:28:37
Ok we've plenty of midfield options but Xhaka would be an upgrade on all of them. he's a leader and has the strong winners personality and tenacity we've lacked since Masch or Stevie from a few years back. If we can get him, we have to do it and clear out any midfielder bar Can and Hendo. He could be a future captain and a midfield of Can Hendo Xhaka could be unstoppable.
