Did real Madrid not move away from attempting to sign him because of an ear problem?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no one has moved away from attempting to sign him. He did have an ear problem that forced him to be taken off in a game after he complained the crowd noise had made him ill, but that was not why he never left RB Leipzig. It was simply because Leipzig rejected any talks over his sale and he never pushed for a move as he didn't think he was ready yet.}

Dealing with Leipzig and Rangnick was fun last summer.

I would think dealing with RBL might be best left alone for a while no? I mean we kept slapping them until they reluctantly handed over Keita.

15 Mar 2018 14:25:12
Why are RBL difficult? They did nothing less than what any other club would do to hold on to their prized players. We did no less with Suarez and Coutinho. It's simple. Want somebody else's player? Pay the money. And it becomes easy.

I agree ED, that defeat hurt me too but I feel like the players were all playing well below par so hopefully we won't repeat that again. I also think Klopp is starting to change his defiant attitude in regards to tactics as I've seen changes (Albeit not against utd lol)

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed0333's Note - my point is Jigz we have those below par performances in us which is worrying. I agree Klopp has evolved tactically and has been doing so for a while. I just don’t think we have the personnel to match his acumen (there’s only so much you can coach) We will do next season hence why I think we will flourish in the future.

15 Mar 2018 07:30:27
Ed I agree totally I also think we become too reliant on individual players eg Salah it's like if we keep him quiet the rest will fold, same was said of coutihno, an last year wid mane when he weren't playing or injured.

Hi Ed0333. Do you believe Klopp is around for the long haul or could his head be turned?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0333's Note - I have no idea buddy. I hope he stays for the long haul.

From his talking and body language he gives the impression of a very committed guy. I don't know, but that's what I see in his press conferences. He treats his time at LFC as a project and a revival. He's smart enough to know that reviving LFC (which he has started already) has far more value in footballing circles than going to a Real Madrid, Barcelona or PSG, and become just one in a series of managers for teams that rely mostly on money and marketing. He hides it well, but I think he has considerable pride and ego and won't leave until his goal is accomplished. I see him more being asked to leave (for example, if we mess up on the top 4 standard we seem to be setting) rather than him walking off for the big bucks.

I don’t know a team in the history of football that doesn’t have those games in them. Even City this year against Palace and against us and more recently against Basel (dead rubber I know but still a flat performance).

I’m not too concerned about our consistency as we’ve only lost 4 all season and 3 of them were away against top 4 teams. It’s a huge improvement to what we have been used to in the past.

Hailstones l think every great team has always had a ‘star’ player that drags them through the tight games. Right now ours is Salah. The trick is to have other threats when they are off form and with Firmino and Mane we have that. Keita will add to it from a deeper position too.

Like the Ed I think we will be much better equipped after the summer. I really like that the recruitment is based on quality players even if we have no chance of getting them. There will be the odd one or two that we will get (like Keita and VVD) and they will steadily improve the team. It’s not a quick process but it’s definitely the right process.

{Ed0333's Note - no worries mate

14 Mar 2018 09:30:54
In fairness Ed0333, I don't think it's hubaris - we've proven that we are capable of beating anyone, despite having also proven that we are there for a thumping if we get it wrong against you. But everyone recognises that no match is going to be easy at this point and no matter what, we will have our work cut out for us if we want to progress. That being said, some teams left are the ruling super-powers of Europe and some teams left are very good, well organised squads. Despite both groups being hard games, they are not equal to each other. One thing we need to get out the mindset of though is hoping that we will have the element of surprise. We won our group scoring a record number of goals, and are now in the quarter finals. No-one will be taken by surprise anymore.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed0333's Note - I hear what your saying fella but I’m a naturally cautious guy and have low excepectations and anything else is a pleasant surprise. You make really good points though mate. Let’s hope the fairytale lasts a little bit longer. I would love Klopps first European title to be with us. As I said too Ed’s 001 earlier the ‘doubters to believers’ quote will go down in Anfield folklore if he does.

15 Mar 2018 04:18:49
I think you’re right to be pragmatic ed - this is the most exciting I’ve seen us play for many years barring 13/ 14 perhaps but we shouldn’t get carried away though as were only 75% through the rebuild as I see it.

That last element of unpredictable results against the top sides is in large part down to midfield for me. I can see why it’s happened this way, but our best midfield for a balance of defence/ control/ pressing and goal threat is for me still Hendo, Gini and Lallana, yet against Man Utd we had Can, Milner and Ox.

Starting from front to back and analyzing the work still to be done

- we have one of the most exciting front threes in a long time but still no impact player off the bench. Can Ings be that player? Jury still out for me.
- our Midfield is OK but for all his recent decent performances Ox is hardly the finished article, I don’t see Milner competing with the best midfielders in Europe (he’s brilliant in some games but can go walkabout and scores very rarely) . Hendo is fantastic but unfortunately injury prone. Gini is still for me the one we should be playing in the big games but hasn’t exactly been blowing the doors off either and Lallana has lost form while Can is still young and inconsistent. We are perhaps in the top 10-15 in terms of midfield but not in the top 5
- Likewise at the back, I think VVD was massive for us and Karius and Lovren looking immeasurably better for him coming in, but we aren’t water tight just yet. We also have a solid LB that’s still adapting, and a very young (even if very talented) RB

Overall in terms of changes next season I think Keita could be revolutionary for us, adding drive, bite and goals from midfield which we sorely lack. I hope we see Robbo, Karius, Lovren, TAA continue their rapid improvement in form and maturity, and hopefully Hendo can stay fit. If we can add an impact player off the bench as well, with goals from midfield or out wide (Lemar? ) then we’ll be 90% of the way there.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0333's Note - I agree about the sexiness of our play and carving out chances for fun. We were incredibly hard to beat under Rafa, he was my hero but it was turgid football for the most part. Klopps way is so easy on the eye and I totally agree that an upgraded midfield will yield even more success and hopefully the elusive Premiership. The midfield is mediocre at best and Keita will drastically improve it and change the dynamic but to be fair long John silver would improve the dynamic. The attack is exemplarary and the defense can hold its own if they play their best but the midfield lets us down. Like yourself I see the potential in this team.

15 Mar 2018 07:33:36
I am like u ed think the worst an anything else a bonus sad but necessary after years of let downs an pain, it's obvious this year we seem better against the smaller teams an not as well against top 6, hope this doesn't effect us.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0333's Note - hopefully next season we’ll get it right. We’ll beat the good teams and the crappy ones.

Forget Lemar, Klopp should go for Willian.

Would be nice but we all know Chelsea would be very reluctant to sell a player of that quality to us.

Lemar is a far better option.

15 Mar 2018 08:58:01
The problem with Willian is that he will go on a run of 10 games where he makes Hazard look like a Scott Sinclair, and then go missing for half a season. He's a quality player on his day but he's too stop-start to be relied on. Also, he's been played centrally before and it was a disaster so if we bought him he'd only get game time by edging out mane or salah.

Agree5 Disagree2

15 Mar 2018 09:39:18
I agree hjikle. Cracking player on his day, but goes missing far too much over a full season. Also the stat if right. That Salah has scored more this season already than Willian has in the 4,5 seasons at Chelsea is unbelievable.

Oh dear! 5 years and 20 plus goals! Is that what you want? Have you seen Leon Bailey play?
