Dear Mr Editor if there is no chance in your opinion based on your knowledge who is the most realistic striker we could be targeting?. and how do you know its not suarez?. the owners might think he is exactly what we need. and spend the money to get him! !. cheers. .
F9T {ed's note - I agree, I could be completely wrong, but I have not heard of any interest in Suarez from within the club. Everything I hear is that we are after Erikssen from Ajax and that is who he have been watching. Not sure who we are targeting as the main striker though I am sure there is one.}

Arsenal are keen to sign Southampton wonderkid Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, 17, but there may be a sticking point over when he joins. Arsenal would not want to loan him back if they push through a £5m deal to sign him.

Arsenal are likely to sign him

Any News on Eljero Elia Ed. 'n' KK came out n said he can turn the current team around without new players. does this mean we won't see anybody new in jan. also Jason Banton (from blackburn) why did arsenal let him go? Ed.ScouseManc {ed's note - I have never heard anything on Elia, I am not convinced there was any interest. Kenny was just trying to rebuild confidence with his statement, he knows we need to buy. I don't know why Banton was released, he looked a great prospect a few years back.}

Regarding this "Kun" and "Ken" thing. As far I am aware I believe it's Sergio Kun Aguero, if there's an inside joke I apologise.
Also Arda Turan is rumoured to be contacted by Kenny to say that he could be a LFC player by the end of Jan, but has'nt promised him it, this is because he is waiting for approval from the owners.

Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly in the race to sign Steven Defour, but the pair will have to wait until the summer to secure a deal.

The Belgian international midfielder suffered a leg break earlier in his career, and his currently recovering from a further injury setback. That hasn't stopped new Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish taking an interest in the player though.

22-year-old Defour has been monitored by the Anfield outfit for 18 months now, although Liverpool have been dealt a blow with news that they can't make a move until the summer.

Arsenal have reportedly 'entered the race' to land the player too, with Emirates chief Arsene Wenger ready to take on his Barclays Premier League rivals for the player.

The Gunners were also thought to be keen on signing the player this month originally, but the player's agent has spoken specifically about the interest from Arsenal and hinted that they will still be interested at the end of the season.

"At this moment I don't know what the situation is with any moves for Steven in January. The problem is he is still injured, " Paul Stefani exclusively told Sport.co.uk.

"I don't think it is possible that Mr. Wenger is saying he wants him now, a deal in January is impossible. I have heard nothing of any approaches."

Defour has impressed for Standard Liege since joining the club as a teenager in 2006, and interest from a strong of clubs across Europe began almost immediately as he broke into the first team. Liverpool were one of the first teams to be linked.

Damien Comolli, director of football strategy for Liverpool, is also thought to be keen on the player and will agree to allow some of the club's transfer funds to be spent on the player in June.

Arsenal also have money to spend following the announcement of bumper profits in north London, and the €12 million valuation is not thought to be an issue.

Manchester United chief Alex Ferguson is also thought to be interested in the player, and the Old Trafford outfit could add a third dimension to the transfer tussle that is set to take place between Liverpool and Arsenal in the summer.

I am a member of the Boston Red Sox corporate sales team. My desk is near the office of Joe Januszewski. Last week a fax came across our department addressed to Joe. It was an edited list of American players that could be added to Liverpool in order to increase revenue in the States. The list had 15 names, but there were only 5 that were not scratched out. The four names left were Landon Donovan, Stuart Holden, Clint Dempsey, Maurice Edu, and Jozy Altidore.
My take is that they are planning on purchasing one of these players either in January or the summer in order to better market the team in America and bring more revenue to the team.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
So that'll be all the American players you know then! Bet you couldn't name the other 10 if you tried

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Believe it if you want to or not, but regardless of my knowledge of Liverpool, I do have knowledge of sales and of my boss. The fact of the matter is that 24 million Americans watched the World Cup final in 2010, and in order to capitalize on the potential market, the owners of Liverpool would need an established name in American soccer. And that is why that list was created.
Ed.- if you would provide me with an email address, I will send you a camera phone photo of this list on official NESV letterhead. {ed's note - is it possible to send it through the contact form on here? If not send me mail through it and I will reply with an email addy you can send it to. Or you could post it to the player sightings page if it is easier.}

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Most Americans don't care about soccer and are not aware of these players. Those that do follow the prem have already declared their loyalties, and would not begin to support another club just because an American was bought. If they did, America would have nothing but Fulham supporters, and the only ones that I know are English ex-pats.

It's on talksport that we're making a bid to sign Victor Obinna in the summer. I know he's on loan at West Ham at the moment from Inter Milan. I haven't seen anything of him. Is he good enough? What you reckon ed? and how reliable are talksport?

Kebab {ed's note - they are very unreliable, according to them we should only have two players at the club by now. They had Torres, Gerrard and Reina nailed on to move elsewhere in summer. Obinna is barely good enough to get a game for West Ham, and then only because Cole is not fit, he is not good enough for us.}

On the note of the Pienaar rumours, I would usually have said their was absolutely no chance, but the player would want it and the circumstances do make it seem likely. Also the the people suggesting Elia and Gervinho, I very much doubt it will happen, its media spin. Expect bids for Turan, Suarez and Honda at least. Whether any will be successful is far harder to say. Turan is most likely

@Liverpool Rumours 14 Jan 2011 17:45:12 "It's Kun Aguero."

You are obviously either a 'newbie' or a stranger. There is a spoof that has been going on on here for two years regarding two players - Ken Aguero and Tony Beep-Beep. Ken was last heard of rejecting a signing on fee because the lager used to weigh the deal wasn't strong enough.

Tony Beep-Beep is currently awaiting his Application For Bail hearing after unfortunate allegations involving Carlsberg Special Brew, a melon that had been warmed in a microwave and the top deck of a double-decker bus.

My friend works at Celtic Park and he says that Scott Brown is in talks with Liverpool for a move. but he belives it has to be done quickly as Celtic have their eye on a replacement but may need to move fast. Brown is a good holding midfielder but not sure if he is good enough for us. I think that he may be a stop gap

I'm a big Celtic fan and Scott Brown would die for his team, Brown more a box to box man than holding playerand with the right guidence could become a very good player and would be a sucess in English football, he would not let us down in a midfield battle and also can pass better than the midfield we had on Wednesday night.

Liverpool sign Jason Banton.

The former Arsenal and Blackburn winger was on trial at the club and was an unused substitute in the Reserves' 2-1 success over Sunderland earlier this week.

Academy director Frank McParland told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Jason has been training with us here at the Academy for the past three to four weeks.

"He's a talented winger who we feel can be a very good player for us.

"It didn't work out for him at Blackburn so we have
stepped in and have signed him at least until the end of the season. It's up to him now to show that he has what it takes to wear the red shirt."

Banton, 18, played in the same youth team as Arsenal starlet Jack Wilshere.

Back to rumours.

Liverpool are looking to bolster the defnce with Urby Emanuelson (spelling), He can play left back or left mid, mainly left back. He's sorta like a younger Aurelio. Also Liverpool are set to make a offer for Suarez after discutions take place when John Henry arrives. Failing Suarez, They will turn too Benzema, who is out-of-favour at Real Madrid, a loan move with view to keep.

Also expect Elia of Hamburg to sign. (Close to a fact.)

Liverpool have made contact with Marseille over the availability of Taye Taiwo.
Liverpool are keen to sign a new left back and their attention has switched to the Nigeria international after an assessment of the squad by caretaker manager Kenny Dalglish. The Scot made the surprising decision to play out-of-form Glen Johnson in that position in the 2-1 defeat to Blackpool highlighting the lack of options in that position. Fabio Aurelio was mysteriously omitted while Paul Konchesky is tipped to follow former manager Roy Hodgson through the exit door after a failing to rise to the level expected at Anfield.
Taiwo has emerged as the Reds number one target after impressing for L'Om over a number of seasons. Quick and powerfully built, the 25-year-old is solid tackler but also provides an added dimension in attack. His strong running and powerful shot are an asset to the Ligue 1 club for whom he also gets on the scoresheet from direct free-kicks.

Commoli is lining up an audacious bid to bring future worldbeater Ganso over from Santos. KK has indentified him as the player to bring creative spark and flair to a team devoid of confidence, cohesion and ideas. John Henry likes the proposal as the player is a perfect fit for NESV's strategy of buying the best young talent with the greatest marketing and resale potential.

Just read on caught offside that we are interested in Mauro Zarate. I know this site loves to make up stories so don't really believe it but this is the type of player I think we need to be looking at. I have never seen Torres play well with a striker up there with him. Even when with A Madrid he didn't look half the player when paired with someone, including aguero. We should be looking at more players in the second striker role ie suarez, zarate, hernandez (lazio), Jovetic (fiorentina) diego (wolfsburg) Ganso (Santos) etc. I would love to see dani pacheco get a few games in this role as i think he would excel but prehaps more coming on as a sub as we are under alot of pressure to win right now. Van der vart has been class in this role for Spurs and someone with the same qualities could bring the best out of torres. Ed what do you think?

Emanuelson is out of contract in the summer, so I think that would be a Bosman move, as would the move for Marveaux. Stephen Warnock is a possibility, fallen out with Houllier, has something to prove at Liverpool, better option than Konchesky. John W Henry, Daglish and Comolli will discuss transfers this weekend, Kenny will outline the players he wants, Comolli will state who is available, Henry will decide whether to put the money forward. Its clear we need a leftback, a left winger and a striker. A centre back and midfielder should also be looked at but the priority must be the 1st 3. I would be very happy if Warnock, Honda and Suarez arrived

Ed, can you bring clarity to my mind, I read that Agger is already chatting about Salary with Fiorentina and at the end of the article so called his agent says we just need to speak to Liverpool now. Is that not tapping up if they are talking Salary before even speaking to Liverpool?

LFC420

{Editor's Note: It won't be tapping up. My understanding, with a little supposition, is that Bernardo Brovarone told Liverpool that his client wishes to move on and Liverpool granted permission for him to seek a new club for the player. Subsequently he has negotiated a deal with Fiorentina for the move. Fiorentina will have also agreed in principle what they would be willing to pay as a transfer fee, say €10M, and this will be relayed to Liverpool. At that point, if Liverpool do not reject the offer, then perhaps they could negotiate the final value of the sale – say €12.8M, and the transfer can take place.}

{Editor's Note: You have to read through the posts where you will find the answers to your quest. However, I think it unlikely that we will sign Suarez. As for who is coming in, Dalglish says he is in the dark but I think that this is just a smokescreen so he does not get blamed when SWP arrives.}

Hi ed,

We have heard a lot of rumours on who we will bid for. But do you have any updates on teams preparing bids for a liverpool player.

Thanks Ed, great site!

{Editor's Note: Not beyond what you see on these pages or in the press - e.g. Agger.}

IN & OUT THIS JAN
HONDA £11M FSV man, LAST DAY signing
SUAREZ £17M deal done and as MACCA said the 1 big Jan deal
NZOGBIA £9 is second choice but the more likely, KENNY will try to land YOUNG 1st
WARNOCK -£2M solid local lad
BENZEMA LOAN he was set to join villa but will opt for LFC. If he inpresses he will sign for £22M in the SUMMER and will become TORRES replacment as LIVERPOOL will not let his contract run down, and will sell this summer.

YOUNG IS A POSSIBILITY £8M+ BABEL is Kenny 1st choice as he looks to add English and offload BABEL as he fails to show maturity and commitment to the course.
BABEL may pull the plug and opt for an easy life with AJAX £8M if so LFC will offer £16m but no more for young this may fall short of villa's valuation

NGOG SWAP FOR WARNOCK +£2M GH at villa is looking to add fire power and missing out on BENZEMA he will turn his attentions to NGOG who will be told he is 4th choice at LFC.

Also Taiwo hasnt agreed a new contract yet whats goin on, anyone know? ED?

{editor: Taiwo I doubt will join us.}

Ed do you think Gervinho will be bid for? . and don't you think charlie adam is a bit too old? . .like we will be looking to sell him off in two years. .

{editor: I know Charlie Adam looks about 50 but he is only 25 so no, he is not too old. I think the Gervinho rumours where just paper talk.}

Luis Suarez, the Ajax striker, has emerged as the most likely target for the last of these positions, with the player's club minded to sell him – providing they receive an offer in excess of £18 million. Sources in Holland have confirmed that a bid from Liverpool, who have watched the player intensely over the last few months, is anticipated.

As well as Suarez, the Ajax left-back Urby Emanuelson is believed to be a target, while Lille duo Gervinho and Eden Hazard – both of whom can play either as an orthodox striker or in a wide position – have attracted Liverpool's attention. Moves for Yann M'Vila and Sylvain Marveaux, both of Rennes, are expected to wait until the summer.

How come we have been crying out for wingers for years and we let our youngsters go?. what was wrong with Adam Hammill being given a chance? Never saw him play myself but he seems to be getting rave reviews at Barnsley and is off to Blackpool possibly on the cheap. Surely he might be worth considering bringing back? What do you think Ed. .Did Kenny rate him?

{editor: Im not sure about Kenny, but I rated him very highly. I remember watching him play in a Liverpool XI alongside Gerrard where he scored. He was a class player then and is a better player now. It frustrates me because I live close to Barnsley and some of my family are Barnsley fans, I get a lot of stick about him. He is too good for the Championship and we should sign him back.}

Why haven't we been looking at N'Zogbia, he has stood out for Wigan in the last 2 seasons and has scored a few crucial goals, he loves going forward and he's fast and still quite young
Surely we could get him for around 6-8 mil
Please post on rumour page

Liverpool caretaker manager is set to seal a move for Benfica left back Fabio Coentrao as his first signing in January, according to reports.

- - - - - - -

Coentrao's most likely destination will be Real Madrid. Liverpool won't pay the massive fee required for him.

how do u know, things can change easy, plus nothings agreed between madrid and him

Hello All Daniel Agger to Fiorentina maybe agger+cash for mutu what do you all think

Trigger1

I Said Mutu Would come the other day but you dident post it

{Editor Note: Everything gets reviewed and posted if it doesn't contain anything offensive or unable to post. And Agger + cash for Muti is an absolutly awful deal for someone who is 32, has a history of drug abuse, and failed in the Premiership.}

Ed, will we be making any marque signings this month or will we continue to bargain hunt? The way i see it is that NESV need to invest in players asap, which was surely discussed with the board during the takeover. Come on. . put us out of our misery as much as you can do!

{Editor Note: I'm sure if a big name comes available at a reasonable price and it is a good deal we'll go in for him, Comolli has stated that its the case. But I'm sure we'll be looking for bargains also.}

Hamburg have told Liverpool to come up with a bid of at least £12.5m for long-term target, Eljero Elia. The Bundesliga club are aware of Liverpool's interest, and are keen to capitalize:

“We do not loan players, ” said Bastian Reinhardt, Hamburg's sporting director. “We would need at least €15m for Elia.”

23-year-old Elia's performances since joining Hamburg in 2009 have seen him develop considerable renown in the Bundesliga, as well as earning him a place in the Netherlands squad at last summer's World Cup. Elia can be deployed either on the wing or as a striker, and Liverpool's Director of Football, Damien Comolli, is keen to bring the Dutch hotshot to Anfield.

Transfer Tavern
Any thoughts on this ed?

{Editor Note: Too much for a player who doesn't offer enough quality in the final third. He has pace to burn but I don't think he's what we're looking for.}

Eds note?

Again thanks for reply earlier

You seem to have similar views on LFC as myself.
Its clear you have a dislike of The Tory press and The Sun and I would guess you are a real Shankly supporter like myself. And its clear you saw through Rafa unlike the deluded IN RAFA WE TRUST brigade(I used to love posting rubbish under that name)

Do you agree this is the first decent manager we have had since Kenny left.

I know Kenny wasnt your first choice but can I ask why Sean Odrisscol?

And the only position I don't agree with you on is Stevie G. While I know you probably know the man alot better than I do and are probably aware of his many failings but Stevie has carried us been a legend for us defied the odds in finals and brought the trophies home. I think if we let him go we would deflate and does he not deserve to be a one club man and retire at LFC?

Also Ed January transfers with what you are hearing without commiting to names should we be opptimistic or pessimistic?

DONT BUY THE SUN

{Editor Note: All I know regarding January transfers is that bids are prepared for one or two players, and I gather we've already made a bid for one player.}
