edd where has the hooper rumour come from? what sight or was it a poster ?
5gold stars {Ed001's Note - it is just because he is in contract talks, suddenly he is being linked with every club in need of a striker.}

Hooper is a medium quality striker in a very poor Scottish league who didnt make it in the lower English leagues. Surely this man is not a plausible target for Liverpool. Heavy investment is needed by FSG, to ensure that Liverpool are propelled back to the higher enchelons of the Premiership, so why are we not courting world class finishers? {Ed001's Note - I am no fan of Hooper, but to say he didn't make it in the lower leagues is simply not true. He was a consistent scorer for Scunthorpe in the Championship.}

Just a question for any Ed that knows...

What was the situation regarding Luuk De Jong?

Did we get any further than showing an interest? Was there ever any bid made? Did any talks take place etc?

K.Bennett {Ed001's Note - enquiry made, nothing more that I know of.}

Evening eds fellow reds , don't know if this has been dealt with . But now Borini is out , would liverpool be able to apply for an emergency signing as we only have two strikers left . Cheers psv {Ed001's Note - no.}

Only psv again looks like Morgan will now step up .he has the quality but it a lot to ask .and is yesil (spelling )fit to make first team.cheers psv {Ed001's Note - Yesil is more likely to make the step up at this stage, Morgan has the talent, but he tries too hard, he needs to learn to believe in himself. I can't remember whether Yesil is fit or not at the moment, I don't have anything noted down, but you asking has made me wonder if I have just not noted it.}

Yesil scored for the German u-19s on Thursday. Is due to play vs Luxembourg on Saturday and Rep of Ireland on Tuesday for the U-19s.

Seems he's fit, well and scoring.

Emergency signing only applies to goalkeeper.

Ed can you explain why wolves can make an emergency loan involving pennant but we can't make one for a new striker?what are the rules involving emergency loans as I thought it was only for keepers {Ed023's Note - Wolves are championship. They're allowed to negotiate loan deals.}

I have given myself 30 lashes for jumping on the bandwagon , but I have just had a long look at all of the goals scored by Gary Hooper from 2010 to 2012 , he reminds me so much of Roger Hunt , not tall , decent in the air , good first touch and , most importantly , sticks it in the corner of the net where goalkeepers hate it .

Do any of you '' oldies '' agree with my comparison ?

Well he is english

Maybe not the comparison, but I think he is a good striker - not sure if it only because he plays in a far inferior league to the EPL or not.
Bazzaa

They both have a 'G' in their first name I spose.
But at thgis moment that is like comparing Sterling to Pele ........over optimistic mate.

Kobi

Most modern day players that play in jockland fail to make it in the premier league as ther standard of football is first division status apart from celtic who would be relegation fodder in the premier big fish in small pond

Don't meant to put us down, Bazzaa. Look at Jelavić, he is from your so-call "inferior league" and he has been scoring goals like a machine for the Toffees.

Not quite old enough to remember Hunt (old enough to remember Alun Evans though!). I like Hooper too. The fact that he is playing in a weak league is totally irrelevant, a finisher of that quality is going to score wherever he plays. I think he'd be a success. By the way, that Samaras works like an ox to make goals for him. Not saying I want Samara, but he deserves some credit. -SH-

Larson jelavic van hoojdonk paolo di canio James mc carthy all played in scotland & prospered in the prem
Paisley's genius

No disrespect meant mate, but except for the Hearts, Cetics and previously Rangers the league is not strong. Which you must admit is true, I think hooper looks good but curious if he would look as good in EPL, jelavic has proven its possible as has Gattuso, he's 25 I think and worth a go at the right price. Sorry if I offended.
Bazzaa

Despite his young age Robbie Savage once described him as the toughest player he's ever been up against. I know that Savage was never the best player ever to grace a football pitch but that must be some compliment.

Roger is getting on a bit now but is still probabit quicker turning his defender

Hooper went from Scunthorpe to celtic witch is a step up and i believe he has what it takes to step up again to the prem he is also scoring in the champions league witch shows he has a calm mind

Becca

He was also the only english player to score in the last round of the champs lge .Hooper will score plenty in the prem ,u paid 35 mil for a donkey that cant score why not pay 10 for a guy that can

Afternoon all,
Just heard on that we are looking at Gary Hooper for January, after his contract talks with Celtic 'broke down'.
Does anyone know if there is any validity to this, or is it just usual journalistic posturing?

Redjinal

Yes great signing

He will be leaving Celtic, just a question of where he moves to.

Liverpool are chasing Gary Hooper to solve their striker problem after his contract talks with Celtic broke down.

Even if its true how much would dopey Lennon want for him £15m maybe more ...

BigD

Why should "dopey Lennon" not demand £15 million plus for him? Teams are expected to pay extremely high prices for players in the EPL so why should any other team be different

Don't know if i imagined this but won't he be a free agent so no transfer fee ?

6m. And he is English

Lennon already stated if Carroll is worth £35m then Hooper is worth £36m.

He has 2 years remaining on his contract so he won't be a free agent.

It will take at least £10m to get him.

It's more than likely rubbish, there are no quotes in the article and he said he's happy to stay.

About the only thing to keep the price down is he does not have an international cap, not that it would keep it below £10 mil though! After all he is English which would push it up! SPL is an easy league to look good in, but he does bang em away there!

As a lfc/Celtic fan I would absolutely love this to happen, we need this type of player, nothing fancy just somebody who enjoys sticking the ball in the onion bag, now as a Celtic fan also, I believe Lennon has enough cover there to fill the void, especially with rangers in division 3 and struggling

Hi eds, after Sahin tweeted a picture of Arda Turan in a Liverpool shirt do you reckon there's any chance of us signing him, possibly as a replacement for Downing? He's a self-confessed Liverpool fan & it's well-known that we've watched him before so could it happen? {Ed002's Note - I think it is very unlikely that AM would want to sell. They have already rejected a move from Schalke.}

Ed how much was the offer from Schalke ?

Surely at the moment they would consider selling anyone if the price is right if the club is that much in the red, id say he would cost around £15m.

What annoyed me was Kenny Dalglish he recommend Turan to Hodgson but when he got the job he didn't pursue him, why i do not know.

BigD {Ed002's Note - My understanding is that there was no discussion of money with Schalke.}

How mush do you think he would cost ed002?

BigD {Ed002's Note - As I said, I don't think Atletico would want to sell him. I would think that Schalke would not have wanted to pay more that 18M euro or so.}

Ed002 but what if turan is very keen to come to lfc, he is a well known lfc fan. Maybe madrid would bow to his wishes and let him go. what do you reckon? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool has not shown interest in him.}

He is sooo incredibly slow, even slower than mertesacker

No Sterling has taken downings place already.

We have got Assaidi recently and as above mentioned Sterling, Turan is left wing if I remember correctly so it would be pointless to fill that position. Maybe I'm wrong.

Us much as I would love us to purchase arda turan because he's such a great talent, we missed our chance last summer when we opted to go for downing for £20 mill when we could of got turan for £12 mill. That's how much of a flop KK made of the transfers. Now I doubt we would go near the valuation atheltico madrid want him for £24mill. We all know they're a selling club but at big prices.

It's good to have back up and competition in a position. Back up is needed when things like, suspension, injury and loss of form, hits the first choice. Competition will improve both players on and off the pitch.

Anyway, ANY player coming to Anfield will depends on these 5 things:

1. Availability of the player
2. Willingness of the player to move
3. Willingness of the player's parent club to sell
4. Willingness of the owners to buy
5. Ability of us to pay for the player

I forgot to mention is in my last comment. Whether Turan is a Liverpool fan or not does not matter.

Turan has always stated he is a huge liverpool supporter so im sure if there was interest he would push for a deal

Liverpool are plotting a double raid on athletico madrid,for Adrian Lopez and arda turan.With the athletico's well documented financial problems,the anfield club belive there is a high chance madrid will sell.

Would be nice but don't see it happening also they would want close to £15m a player if not more and with the lack of transfer activity in the summer i don't see FSG splashing the cash in Jan, i think they are trying to balance the books from Kenny time at the club.

BigD

Just laughable as usual, turan has a 25mill buy out for starters. the one that got away who wanted to join, lol

BR has met with FSG regarding the potential targets for January 2013. Adrian Lopez has been revealed as a target.

Lopez fits into the current system and meets FSG's requirements. Lopez could be available for about 14 million pounds.

Lopez will not replace Falcao if he leaves and will look to the Premier league for consistent football.

Lee

Hope this true as he would fit in well and also contemplate Suarez well but i think the fee will be £17m.

Eds with Borini now injured can we call Carroll back now or do we have to wait till Jan. {Ed002's Note - Carroll would not be an option and much would depend on the provisions of the loan contract.}

Carroll liverpool career is finished.

Didnt Sam Allardyce say we did have the option to recall him in Jan? However, I doubt this is an option for Rodgers as it's quite clear that Carroll doesn't fit in to his plans.

12 Oct 2012 11:56:00
We can call Carroll back in January if desired?

Iggypop

Ed how can u say he is not an option when he is still our player and if its true we can call him bk in Jan then surely its got to be an option unless FSG are gonna be given us substantial funds for a proven goalscoring striker we desperately need. {Ed002's Note - It is not possible to recall Carroll now. I do not know what the terms of his loan contract are as to whether he could be recalled in January. Why would FSG give "substantial funds" in January?}

Its a bit obvious ain't it ed002 we are now relying solely on 1 striker in Luis Suarez to deliver the goals and get us up the table, so FSG surely have got no choice but to get the check books out in Jan and find us a quality striker as surely we are not gonna rely on Yesil/Morgan or Pacheco ...

BigD {Ed002's Note - Could always sell Yesil, Morgan and Pacheco if they are not good enough for Liverpool.}

Now ur putting words in my mouth, i didn't say that im just saying that we can't rely on those 3 to get the goals, but on the other hand Yesil looks to be the best option, although i hope Pacheco can produce as i think he could be a very good player if he really wants it.

BigD

Hopefully Carroll will be recalled and Hooper will also be signed
