ED Ajax confirm they recieved a official enquiry from Dortmund for Eriksen i'm guessing he would favour a move there?

RED87 {Ed002's Note - As he cannot get interest from where he wants in Spain, I would think you are right.}

Believable12 Unbelievable4

Don't need Eriksen.
Henderson / Downing
Coutinho
Suarez
Behind Sturridge

Agree0 Disagree0

Whatever you think. Sir Alex you will be missed. Respect

Agree0 Disagree0

With Coutinho excelling quicker than expected as a No. 10, and Eriksen not at all being interested, attention has now turned to a wide-forward player.

Tello is No. 1 target and Mkhitaryan is back-up choice. Tello was MOTM against Atletico this evening, and I'm sure all our attention will now turn to him.

If that $10m clause is still in his contract, we've got a chance.
RC

Agree0 Disagree0

Eriksen will be a class player no doubt but he seems like a bit of a mercenary IMO. Biggest payday 1st on the agenda then football second. I agree I think a wing/forward should be priority after the defence is sorted that is. Every good team needs a solid base and with a few additions think we can push on next year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002 surely our interest in eriksen shows that we want an attacking midfield player this summer? apart from inan are there any others who you know we are interested in? {Ed002's Note - Not that I can think of right now.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Why is he a mercenary? football 2nd?

arent dortmund in the CL final?

Afternoon Ed's hope you're all well.

I'm hearing Monaco are after some big name players and have a lot of money to rebuild this summer. Any clarification on this? {Ed002's Note - That is absolutely correct. Players such as Tevez, Nasri, Rooney, Adebayor, Lampard, Falcao, Gonalons and Isco interest them.}

Believable14 Unbelievable6

Monaco will have to pay about 200m to French taxman to play first

Agree0 Disagree0

Your wrong monaco is a tax free island {Ed002's Note - Island?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry not a island got that wrong ed {Ed002's Note - I have lived in Monaco for 20 years on and off, I am sure I would have noticed.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Financial Fair Play? Bit like the lunatic EEC the French vote for and then totally ignore. How can a garbage league support top players like those mentioned? As for player development it would be like the two Mancs clubs playing every game in the Blue Square!

Hi ed002, can you suggest a link or source from which I could find out more about the pan-European league you mentioned in the earlier post this morning please?
Thanks much. {Ed002's Note - Without going in to too much detail: (a) A number of clubs take the opportunity a once or twice a year to discuss various issues including changes in rules, television rights, the power of UEFA, exploitation issues for new technology streams, etc.. These discussions, the last of which were in late August, also always turn to the possibility and structure of a breakaway pan European league. Several are ex-G14 clubs, several are not, and some clubs decline involvement in such discussions. (b) The plan is that at some point a number of clubs would break away from their national leagues and UEFA. They accept that they would be banned from all existing club competition and the players would initially be banned from all FIFA competitions as well, but know that FIFA would be looking to negotiate in any case. It would be the end of UEFA in all probability and UEFA are very aware of this. It would also result in a restructuring of many of the national leagues. (c) The clubs would renegotiate their television rights, rights of distribution via other streams etc.. (d) It remains the greatest fear of UEFA and all major national authorities that one day this will happen.

There is every likelihood that the big money from television, sponsorship etc. would go with a breakaway league. It would completely rupture the operations of UEFA and I would expect it would require national associations like the FA to restructure their leagues. Nobody wants this but it is the eventual consequence I would expect. If I had to speculate, I would think (1) you might eventually see something like five or six EPL teams leave for two-tier pan European league; (2) the Premier League would be disbanded as an organisation; (3) the FA would restructure in to two 20 team divisions with lower leagues regionalised as they were many years ago; (4) FIFA would ban all players from the breakaway teams from International football - perhaps rescinding that position to stop FIFA breaking up as well. I could also see many teams lose their professional status. I would think we are probably 10 years away from any significant move at this time.

I hold a reasonably strong view in terms of the need to restructure football in Europe in any case. For me an eventual a breakaway pan-European league would force the restructuring of many of the national leagues, possibly resulting in a British league with perhaps only a couple of professional tiers and then regionalised amateur leagues below that. Financially I do not see that so many pro sides can be sustained within the sport which, like it or not, will see more and more money going in to the highest levels of the game. Governments will ensure that grassroots sport get funding but everything in the middle (Southern, Northern, Conference, Division 2, Scottish Divisions 1-3, League of Wales will not get the funding needed to continue on any sort of professional basis.}

Believable9 Unbelievable10

It's worth noting that 12 English teams have made the Deloitte money league (richest clubs) over the past decade or so since it started, out of 30-something total. I would think participation from UK would be greater than Ed. suggests.

The ECFA 'let it slip' about 3 yrs ago that they were interested in a 3 division set-up with 64 or 66 teams.

I still believe a North-American style conference system is possible with 60-something teams in 3-5 divisions and a 16 team Champions league style end of season play-off.

The English 12:- LFC, Man U, Man C, Everton, Newcastle, Sunderland, Villa, Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham, Chelsea, Fulham.

{Ed002's Note - Eight of the teams you mention have never been involved in any of the discussions at all.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks ed, appreciated.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002, would the 4 (involved in said discussions) from the twelve clubs listed be Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool? If so, could City's and Tottenham's possible lack of involvement be explained by their relatively recent ascent, suggesting discussion has been taking place for some time (hence the negotiating group being the more traditional CL 'big four')?
Thanks. {Ed002's Note - I don't want to get in to sorry. It seems the post has attracted abuse from the vegetables and it will now be, like South American players, subjects best worth avoiding.}

Would be interesting to see how it goes. thanks ed002, love this kind of news

Lucas Digne, eds? {Ed002's Note - Lille's Lucas Digne has already attracted the attention of Lyon, Chelsea, Liverpool, Udinese, Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Ajax and Real Madrid. He would not want to move to sit on the bench and is more likely to stay in Lille after signing a new deal unless a significant bid arrives. But certainly one to watch and perhaps a move next summer is more likely as he is keen to keep playing each week.}

The Two Best Centre Halfs with Potential atm is Zouma of Saint-Etienne and Marquinhos of Roma, what's the Availability Eds? + Ed002 are u a Robot? U seem 2 be answering Questions from dusk til dawn, do u sleep? cheers 4 the reply as always!
concon {Ed002's Note - Both may well move this summer, but neither to Liverpool I am afraid. Arsenal looked at Zouma about a year or so ago. Manchester United in the summer and Manchester City recently. The Milan clubs and Juventus all see Zouma as a cheaper option to Benatia and both Manchester clubs remain very interested. Roma's Marquinhos is well beyond Liverpool's purse and has attracted the attention of PSG, Barcelona, Benfica, Dortmund, Manchester City and Manchester United. PSG has already made a €30M offer to Roma.}

Hi Eds

Long time reader, first time poster. Just wondering if we're monitoring the situation with Callum McManaman? I've watched him a fair bit this season and have been impressed with his pace, skill and in the last few weeks ability to finish.

I think he'd be excellent on the right side of the triangle that Brendan likes to play. He also wouldn't break the bank. Could be a shrewd signing and offer an alternative to Downing.

If it didn't work out we could sell him on for a decent price as well, as he's young, English and has bags of potential. Has anyone shown any interest?

Mike from Netherley {Ed002's Note - There is no interest that I am aware of.}

Believable25 Unbelievable8

He's a bitter mate and supposed to still have a season ticket for Woodison

Agree0 Disagree0

And? he didn't seem bothered when he scored against them I the FA cup carra was before he signed it means nothing

Agree0 Disagree0

Seriously we need a bit better player than him, he's had a few good games, i'd rather stick with downing

Agree0 Disagree0

Think about it mate - why would he have a season ticket to Goodison? Most of his teams matches will have been played at the same time and he'll have to have been at them. His family might have one that he's used a couple of times, but again I'd imagine they'd rather have tickets to see him play

Hi Eds, So what happening with Assaidi? Will he stay or will he go? Also, is there any chance of Allen going in the summer? {Ed002's Note - At this time, I don't know what will happen with Assaidi. I don't see Allen leaving.}

Believable7 Unbelievable9

Assaidi has been a disappointment, just aswell he was a cheap 1 too. DON'T even get me started on Allen. BR needs a bigger whip than Indy Jones' cracking on him!

Agree0 Disagree0

HUUUGE disappointment mate, I can't believe he hasn't been playing whilst injured! Gosh! What nerve he has!

McSnuggles

Agree0 Disagree0

LMAO mrsnuggles, Assadi has been injured and when he has played he's done very good, attacking, assists plus a couple of goals in the little game time he's had ain't bad, let's keep him fit and next season he will be a cracking player for us, I believe Allen needs to go out for a full season on loan, they we can judge, he's been thrown in at the deep end give the young blood a chance. hes rubbish not good enough for Liverpool, in the starts he's had he hasn't done nothing apart from give the ball away, he reminds me of fabio aurellio, but I agree give him one more season

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm baffled as to why we haven't seen him as much, even on the bench when he's been fit. But the way I see it is at the start of the season when he appeared in the europa league, I felt he was shrugged off the ball way too easy. Not sure if it's just me but I thought he looked like he had put on a bit more muscle when he came on against west ham. Maybe BR will utilise him more next season or ship him out if he has a poor pre-season

Hi all. Question or two for you ed002.

1. How far do you Liverpool is from Champions League qualification?

2. What 2 or 3 players, realistic and viable, would you recommend this summer that would take us to the next level and get us those extra 25 points needed to guarantee CL football next season?

3. Considering we won't be able to attract a replacement equally as good, is it then a case of Liverpool "must" hold onto Suarez rather than "preferring to do so? Can you honestly say that you can see the club selling him and still improving/kicking on next season?

4. How much of a hit is our stock taking due to our CL absence?

5. Man United and Chelsea have very strong, young teams as it is, and are going to significantly improve. Owing to their financial clout, City will certainly always be up there as well.
As you have said ed002, the Arsenal are set to see enormous changes in the next season or two. The arrival of some high-end acquisitions will take them right back into the elite.
That will be the top four locked and sealed: a monopoly established again.

Likes of Liverpool, Everton and Spurs will find it hard, if not impossible, to compete. Even with new and/or revamped stadiums, things would be unlikely to change much as the top 4 sides will themselves be constantly regenerating their teams and enhancing their commercial gains.

So my question then ed, should the above indeed materialize, would you see us moving on high earners and operating the same wage structure as that of Spurs? As it is, we are haemorrhaging sizeable amounts of money and still spending like CL club even though we are not. The owners at some point are likely to cease propping the club as they are doing now.

Put simply, I don't us winning the league again, for decades at the very least. The same goes for Everton and Spurs. We'll produce great young talent and buy relative unknowns with great potential, and then ship them off as soon as the "elite" sides come knocking, as Spurs have been doing over the years.

At some or other stage they have had Carrick, Modric and Berbatov. Those players added to Lloris, Vertonghen, Caulker, Sandro, Bale, Dembele, Holtby would have a class, Prem challenging team.
But since they could not compete for the top honours, couldn't hold onto the Modric, Berbatov and Carrick.

For the same reason, they are set to Bale, this or or next summer, as we are to lose Suarez.
The cycle will go on and on.

6. Is it true ed that Sergi Canos is close to joining Liverpool?

A long post, I know, but I'd appreciate your views.
Thanks. {Ed002's Note - (1) The defence needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. If they do this over the summer then I would expect Liverpool to be in the hunt for European places. Until there is a clearer indication of what will happen over the summer it is impossible to say if a top four finish is viable. (2) If Liverpool could afford De Vrij I think he would be a good option - but he would need some persuading. The likes of Inan would help considerably, but I fear the chances may have gone there. Dzsudzsak was enquired about for a January loan - he would give that natural width but I suspect Ince might become the focus of attention again. (3) I expected him to stay but the statements to the press and recent incident might well be indicators that time has come. There are offers that will be made by at least three clubs. Players are transient and will always need replacing at one time or another. Hughes, Fowler, Owen, Hyppia etc.. (4) Not being in the Champions League likely costs the club £35M or so a year with lost prize money, revenue and sponsorship. (5) Whilst we are working within the existing structure I would not expect any club, particularly Liverpool, resigning themselves to not being able to achieve Champions League football. However, as I have explained before, an eventual restructing in to a pan European model and the impact on the extant leagues will give the most significant change in in the game, perhaps since it started. (6) A lot would still need to be arranged before he could move to Liverpool because of his age.}

Believable12 Unbelievable1

Ed002, what are the recent events/developments that makes you think Suarez might leave?

By the way, some of your answers to the OP are eye opening!

The real AG {Ed002's Note - The recent incident with Suarez has been well enough documented already. At least three clubs will be making bids for the player this summer and two are already actively talking with his representatives. All of this has been dealt with.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post Roel and interesting points. I personally can see no reason why we cannot get top 4 next season as I think a fully fit Kelly would be the equivalent of a new signing and let's be honest he looks like he is going to be an absolute corker. That with Toby Edierwield (please excuse my spelling) transfer looking increasingly likely I think the defence could be quite solid. Regards other teams vieing for top 4 Spurs, I think AVB will be found out next season, Arsenal, really need to move Wenger on as they are becoming stale and too predictble tactically, Everton will freefall through lack of leadership, which opens the door for us and I think we have the potential there to grab it. I hate to put a downer on your already gloomy view of us not winning the title for decades as I can see it happening within 3 years, but then I am the eternal optimist. F. S. G. will not ship young players out because it is their philosophy to nurture youth talent until they past they're, for want of a better phrase, expiry date, as shown with Boston Red Sox. Anyhoos be well and happy.

I did a search on "Suarez" but couldn't find anything about the recent developments.

Ed002, are the two clubs Juventus and Bayern, with the third Atletico?

Also, what recent comments to the media are you talking about? I have not seen any comment by Suarez with regards to a move. DO you mean comments by an interested party?

Only if Suarez leaves (god forbid) he would not want to be a bench warmer to him. He'd hardly play unless Suarez gets slapped with another ban :-D
