We need a new cb. Lovren now has injury issues and Matip is not the long term solution. Why not go in big for de ligt that would give us the option of a back three ie Gomez Del ligt Vvd with trent and Robbo as wing backs. It seems senseless to wait just 4 months when we know we will need to buy for next season. Btw De ligt would be my choice but if we can't get him someone of that quality. It also gives the likes of Hoever time to learn. He will only be 21 in 5 years.

{Ed002's Note - De Ligt will not be moving to Liverpool and I doubt they have the money available to buy him.}

This defence is the best defence in the premier league for years and years for any team and you think we need to make changes?

Agree28 Disagree6

12 Jan 2019 20:05:12
We’ve got 1 first team RB and today had 1 fully fit CB Mikey. Gomez and Matip are both yet to go a season uninjured for LFC and Lovren is a liability.

Yes we are keeping lots of clean sheets, but we very clearly need some new blood too.

We already have a world class defender in Van Dijk and a potential world class defender in Gomez, why would we spend a fortune on a player to sit on the bench?

Agree26 Disagree3

12 Jan 2019 20:10:12
1) We don't play a back 3

2) When Gomez is fit, he has to play. As does VVD (obviously)

3) De Ligt won't sign for anyone to sit on the bench

4) I don't see what the commotion is about De Ligt. He's looked rather ordinary when I've seen him. But I have to admit, he can't be a full international and Ajax captain at 19 without merit. I just haven't witnessed it myself.

5) See 1, 2 and 3.

Agree17 Disagree1

12 Jan 2019 20:18:23
We have money if needs be and we have players who can be sold so I would not worry about money if klopp needs it I think he will get backed no matter what van dijk and Allison prove that.

Agree7 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 20:29:30
I think he more means about how injury prone the other 3,are bar vvd! It’s frustrating how soft and fragile they are I have to agree although play gomez with vvd when fit.

12 Jan 2019 22:14:40
We have the best 2 center backs in the prem in VVD and Gomez why go out and get another, the back ups are Ok in Matip and Lovren, don't panic.

All will be good in a few weeks.

Agree10 Disagree2

12 Jan 2019 23:33:03
So, buy like 100 CBs in case they all get injured?

Agree2 Disagree4

12 Jan 2019 23:37:32
Play a back 3 when we have about 75% possession in most games? God give me strength, good night and well done for getting the tough 3 points on offer today.

Agree5 Disagree3

12 Jan 2019 23:55:58
We need a backup which will remain fit but it isn’t going to be a top cb like de legit.

Hopefully some of the younger players can make that step up next year. Maybe Phillips or Hoever. Maybe both.

Agree6 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 01:54:42
Haha man can some of ya hear yourselves!? So basically we need someone who is good enough, fit enough, has wolverine powers of recovery and will be happy sitting on the bench.

Agree9 Disagree3

13 Jan 2019 02:36:27
Who's to say if we were to buy another CB that he'd be fit all season anyway? All teams have certain areas of the pitch that have injuries to more than 1 player at a time. It happens. None of them are long term and the only times we have moved to a back 3 with klopp is in the dying stages of games to try and hang on to a win. Gomez's broken leg was an unlucky impact injury and not muscular, vvd hasn't made it through a full season with us yet either (touch wood he does) . We are not city who can buy world class players to sit on the bench and find a convoluted way of offsetting it to escape ffp. And we have the best defense in the league and still had a clean sheet with a midfielder playing there. We are in good shape.

Agree3 Disagree1

13 Jan 2019 03:11:29
Gomez, lovren and matip both have injury concerns. We only have one fit and top cb.

Agree3 Disagree6

13 Jan 2019 08:19:20
Van Dijk isn’t bullet proof like some are making out, his injury record at Saints wasn’t great.

13 Jan 2019 13:31:05
Angus - these are the challenges of a season. An injury crisis would have been juat one fit CB for the rest of the season. Then ok, maybe u look at a solution then.

Personally, I think we should take a punt on Lloyd Kelly, he’s a really good English prospect and can play left back or centre back very comfortably. He is very rarely found wanting and dominates players much older than himself.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Jan 2019 06:26:54
I agree FMS. I'd put a bid in for Lloyd Kelly. If we get him then ship out Moreno since he has "many offers" and apparently wants to leave for more football, which is fair.

Kelly has this VVD calmness/ cool domeanor to him and is very skillful. Could almost fill in as a winger in an old school 4-4-2. Not that we'd need but he looks like a very versatile and mature young player. I'd take him for the right price!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 10:04:27
Hi eds any chance of coutinho coming back to us? Reports that he's unhappy at Barcelona and Man Utd are apparently interested in him. Surely he'd come back to Liverpool if we'd shown enough interest.

Believable3 Unbelievable23

{Ed002's Note - It is true that Barcelona will look to move Coutinho on by selling him (which would be difficult) or including him in a deal for another player. I don't see any chance of hime returning to Liverpool and I don't see Liverpool being able to afford him.}

12 Jan 2019 11:00:42
OP, Pretty sure Klopp and majority of the fans have moved on from Cou and don't want him back. He made his bed and needs to lay in it and live with his decisions that he has made. We are a much better team w/ o him the moment he walked out the door with the emergence of Ox and we are a much better team a year after he left. Good luck to him for the future and that should be that, IMO.

Agree23 Disagree7

12 Jan 2019 11:36:41
I can’t see anyone paying for him never mind us. It will take £100 mill+ for it not to be a financial joke for Barca. If he does move this summer we also lose out on about £30 mill in add ins he is yet to achieve, so I guess him staying at Barcelona and finding some form is the best result for us.

Agree10 Disagree1

12 Jan 2019 11:39:53
Unbelievable isn’t it? After all that he and Barcelona pulled to get him there a year later they’ve realised he’s not as good as they thought.
I always loved Coutinho but he wasn’t quick enough to play our system properly. Play him in the front 3 and you lose Mane or Salah, play him in midfield and he slows the play too much.
Surely Barcelona will want close to what they paid for him too? He’s simply not worth that.

Agree11 Disagree10

12 Jan 2019 12:56:37
We don’t need Couthino back, plus he well and truly burnt his bridges.

Perhaps Barcelona will go on strike in order to engineer his exit.

Agree17 Disagree1

12 Jan 2019 14:27:20
Couldn’t disagree any more than I do with BB there.
He’s no slower than Shaqiri, presses better and is of higher quality.
So, of course he fits fine.
But it doesn’t make financial sense now I concede and doubtful if Klopp would take him back anyway.
I still maintain we could have done with him in the CL final but that’s a moot point.

Agree19 Disagree6

12 Jan 2019 14:16:13
Are any clubs genuinely interested in him?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

12 Jan 2019 15:02:13
Coutinho is a fantastic player, he just lost interest in doing things properly for us. I’d have him back.

Agree5 Disagree7

12 Jan 2019 16:00:29
So there is no point in bringing him back Redinthewrongway. If he’s willing to down tools for us once, there is nothing to stop him doing it again. It would also set a dangerous precedent in the squad.

Agree4 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Like Van Dyke you mean?}

12 Jan 2019 17:07:16
If, in whichever realm of fantasy he did come back, i’m pretty sure it would be with tail between legs and a fresh purpose. He got his ‘dream’ move, it failed, so if he were to come back to somewhere he knows he was loved then why wouldn’t he play like we all know he can?

In general, I really do not care what players do to engineer moves to other clubs. To or from ours. It is just them modern game, with transient employees unable to simply apply for other jobs when they come available like normal people do. Just because we all get emotionally involved and expect loyalty does not mean any is deserved or owed. We all make our own way in the world then we die. Coutinho wanted to play for Barcelona more than Liverpool, but that does not mean he doesn’t love Liverpool or won’t be cheering us on instead of city this season. If we weren’t so blooming tribal and just enjoyed football for the sport, then the rise of hatred wouldn’t be so prevalent at the moment.

12 Jan 2019 17:20:08
Great little player but we don’t want him or need him! Italy his next stop his missus will be p#%#%d 😂.

Agree6 Disagree1

12 Jan 2019 18:29:46
Coutinho will have absolutely no trouble finding a new club if it comes to that Den! i think someone will actually end up getting a bargain in todays market, he is still a top player even if some Lfc fans don't like admitting it anymore.

Agree7 Disagree4

12 Jan 2019 18:31:18
Not being funny, but Coutinho wouldn't get in the team right now. He's been atrocious the last 12 months. He'd play a similar role to Shaqiri in this 4-2-3-1 system and I honestly think Shaqiri is in better form this season.

An in form Coutinho is obviously better than Shaqiri, but who says he'll ever find his pre-Barcelona form again?

Agree6 Disagree8

12 Jan 2019 19:10:28
I just remember that free kick he scored against Brighton, absolute magic. The guy is top quality, Shaq isn't in the same league. He would bring so much creativity for that front 3. But the way he acted was disgraceful and he's burnt his bridges here, sadly.

Agree12 Disagree3

12 Jan 2019 18:46:52
Shaquiri is nowhere near as good as Coutinho was for us. This making out players are crap the minute they leave us is embarassing. Put it this way, if they other 5 teams in the big 6 thought they could get Coutinho tomorrow they'd be all over it. How many do you think would be going all out for Shaquiri?

Agree14 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 19:53:35
Ed 002 has already said he’s available little Naby and exactly 0 of those 5 clubs are “all over it” a very good player, yes but at £100 mil+ you can do better.

Agree6 Disagree1

12 Jan 2019 23:41:56
Barca's recent recruitment policy looks very iffy at the moment, Countinho, Dembele and Malcolm would be around 300 million Euro and all 3 are wanted out. I doubt we would be in for any of those 3, sometimes its best not to come back - the Countinho to Utd rumour did put a smile on my face though.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 00:34:23
Juicer on what planet is Couts as quick as Shaqiri? I suggest you look at some videos mate Shaq is miles quicker than Couts could even dream of being.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 02:44:48
Since couts left, we have been better at breaking teams down because of instead of being patient and finding a way through, couts would just take on 20 shots from 30 yards out. Some games it worked, a lot it didn't and it frustrated the hall out of me.

Agree3 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 04:37:21
A lot of us on here keep getting confused between “the better player”, vs “the better player given the price”. Yes, Shaqiri is the better player given the price, but I find it astonishing that people on here are saying he is a better player overall than Coutinho!
I would take him in a heartbeat on a 6month loan to cover for Mane / Shaq / Keita. Could help him come back into form and confidence for Barca, and could help us win the league.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - but the problem is with what you say is that you are also forgetting which is "the better player given their current form". Coutinho has not played well since he threw his toys out of the pram with us, so I find it astonishing anyone would want to take him back. We have looked so much better without him that it would be idiotic to backslide by taking a player that clearly held us back while with us and acted the childish way he did.}

13 Jan 2019 13:35:20
ed001 could not agree more, as for the comment about not like of jobs being able to leave when they like to change jobs, only when thing are going well, players want to move but look at the likes of Sturridge or ings. Ings hardly plays for 2 years with with injury but still get paid full wages nothing against the lad because that was just unlucky on him and he worked so hard to get back. but you cannot compare them to normal jobs, and the last 6 months all Couthinho did was play for his self to make his highlight reel look good. Kloops sides are baste team work not on individuals.

Agree3 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 13:58:21
Coutinho? Move on. Seriously.

If he had played out the season and left in the summer, instead of feigning injury and forcing a move in January, he might have had a way back. He didn't, and he doesn't.

We pulled Barca's trousers down for the 142 million. Let's see them recoup that now.

Shaqiri is already a more impactful player for us in his first half season, than Coutinho was at any time in his first three seasons at LFC.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 14:58:59
I don't think we ever should return to players that forced their ways out of the club, Coutinho's overall game went seriously downhill especially in the last 6 months he was at the club, as said he threw his toys out of the pram to try and force his way out of the club and get his move to Barca, In my opinion, if any player waits until the end of the season and tries to leave on good terms then fair enough, but the things he did can't be forgotten. But for me the biggest reason why we shouldn't bring him back is because our overall game has improved so much since his departure. We were too reliant on him and our movement of the ball to play the counter attack slowed down when he was in the team. It would be a major step back to bring him back. He made his bed, he needs to sleep in it now. Our club has moved on and we are having an amazing season, we need to look forward not back.

Also a big thank you to all the eds, I know you get allot of stick sometimes, but all of us are grateful for all the hard work you do to keep us in the loop.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2019 06:28:38
The only reason this conversation is even being had is because Keita hasn’t hit form yet and as a result our midfield is lacking some much desired ‘magic’. So we look back to the little magician. It’s fine though, you don’t come back from that. Keita will come good and be just as effective.

Hi Eds,

Just had a conversation with the guy i work with and he was talking about us having an interest in Almiron from the MLS and a young brazilian kid Pedrinho. I've seen Almiron play and obviously know of the Newcastle links and potentially Arsenal but never heard of Pedrinho but quick google search suggests he is highly rated by Barcelona and Dortmund so is there any interest in either player?

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The only link between Liverpool and Almiron was that Sam Allardyce had him scouted when he was at Everton - although he would have been watched in the 2016 Copa America game played against the US by the then Southa American scout for Liverpool and several other PL scouts. An agent spent last summer hawking Corinthian's 20 year old Pedrinho around European sides, initially trying to get the likes of PSG, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs to fork out €50M when he might only be worth a fraction of that. After that failed he turned to perceived gateway clubs such as Ajax, Porto and Benfica - also to no avail.}
