I hate the "It's not the Liverpool Way" to sack managers so soon into their tenure. What is the Liverpool way anymore? From what I can remember the Liverpool way is to fall short season after season. Those liverpool way days are long gone.

I am getting to the point where I think why don't we make wholesale changes now give a new manager funds and rebuild for next season from January onwards.

I can't go on for much longer watching that defensive style of divel week in week out.

Believe - agree
Unbelieve - disagree

If he wants to defend ok but as the saying goes

THE BEST FORM OF DEFENCE IS ATTACK

get roy to understand that

"shocking comments from so called liverpool fans"
Dude are you for real? Have you watched us this season? But let me guess. . You've been a lfc fan 45 years, you've seen us won countless league trophies, fa cups, carling cups, uefa cups, european cups. . You believe in doing things the liverpool way and supporting the manager?
Now this is me. Born in 1991, a year after our "latest" league title, ive supported the pool since i can remember, ive seen us won a few fa cups, so have united. Ive seen us won a few league cups, so have united. Ive seen us win a european trophy, but ive also seen united win TWO. Ive seen united lifting the league title year after year as a kid, coming to anfield and beating us 3-1, 1-0, 3-2 year after year and running to my mommy in tears. Get my point? As a young liverpool supporter all you want is to experience what the 70's and 80's were like. All you want is to beat everton and united and win loads of trophies, but most importantly the league title. But we all know roy is not the man who's gonna bring the glory days back. He's steady the ship(thanks for that roy) but now its time for him to go. He's holding us back. The moment the boys walk onto the pitch im right behind them and whoever the manager is make no mistake, but im also entitled to my opinion and that is that roy will NEVER be good enough for our club.

Ed what do you think about bielsa for manager? someone posted that earlier. i was really impressed with him in the world cup plenty of experience previous argentina manager, workaolic and attack minded heres some info. .

Bielsa's 3-3-1-3 is an inherently attacking formation that aims to take the game to Chile's opponents, press and defend high up the pitch, and stretch the play as wide as possible when in possession. His back three and the holding midfielder are essentially the four defensive-minded players, whilst the two wing-backs surge forward whenever possible, trying to create overloads against opposition full-backs, and also venturing into more central attacking positions to provide a goal threat. {ed's note - I love watching Bielsa's teams, the reason why I rate Sanchez so highly is because I have made a point of watching Chile play purely because of the way they play. It is a joy to watch, it would be great to watch that kind of football every week.}

Ok fair enough if i was hodgson yes i would have taken the job and obviously it would be too big for me but atleast i would have the balls to show some passion and some fight my view is i would rather lose going all out to win than get a draw that we played for and that might not get the best results but atleast the players and fans would know then that i have confidence in the team and want to win as would the players hodgson does non of these and on eds note i too would have got a striker and looked at real wingers if money was available for one. its not that i dislike hodgson i just wish he was not the manager because i think the pressure of the job is driving him crazy and his tactics are driving the players crazy so are we agreed that the best thing for the club woud be to sack him really any other replacement could not be any worse

i get what you mean chris and i can't argue with anything that you have said on here so far. but my god some of the comments that ive read on here just plain p*ssed me off. And @ Ed if you have heard bits and pieces that have come out of melwood then who am i to argue

Hodgson said "we should be more than happy with a point". Really for everyone backing him, open your eyes the players are unhappy for a reason. We are Liverpool FC, we shouldn't be happy with a point against wigan. He needs to go as soon as possible. Anyone got any ideas for a replacement?

I would say Kenny til end of season and then see if pep Guardiola fancies it. He only ever signs one year contracts at Barca. Fits the NESV profile Young and hungry to succeed

Just when you thought it was safe to bet on liverpool again! roy you f*ckin prick. spanked by wigan for most of the game. sad old roy has not got a clue. to all you roy lovers out there saying give him a chance o.k. . roy the chancer believable yes unbelievable no

Ed's note - do you not think he would have been better spending the 15m spent on Meireles and Poulsen buying a striker? Every man and his dog knew we needed a striker most of all, yet he buys two central midfielders, then proceeds to play one of them out wide every single game!}

hi Ed yeah i do think he should have signed a striker and everyone knows that!

look don't get me wrong here i aint exactly over the moon about our current situation but you won't hear me banging on and on about the roy thing.

What nesv have done with the people they are bringing in they have done it quietly and i suspect they will do the same with the roy situation {ed's note - yes and that is why they have put the club on lock down and trying to shut down any leaks. But dissatisfaction can't be hidden away for long and it has already been expressed by players a number of times this season.}

"And ED how do you know its 'fraught' behind the scenes? Or is that just another rumour as you obviously won't be able to divulge your 'sources'!
But then again i doubt this will even be posted!
Shocking comments from so called liverpool fans"

There were few of us who posted about players unhappiness with the management, not just the ed, whos in most times spot on.

January is only a few weeks away, and I can tell you with great confidence that Pacheco, Agger, Jovanovic and Babel all will leave , we won't be getting their worth, and the reason for them leaving is the management .
We have already lost Aquilani on the cheap and loosing Ansua for free.
Come the summer and we are not top 6 (which under Roy is very likely) , then Torres, Reina, Gerrard, Kuyt, lucas, cole will leave, add to that the maybes in Skertel, Meireles and Ngog .

Do you think Roy can replace these players with just as good . No he 'll add few Poulsens and more Koncheskies

But even if Roy was sacked or left at the end of the season, it will be too late, no decent manager will come into a side outside of Europe and have to build a whole new team, and if we get a decent manager, which players will join us, we will be looked at as a club in decline

What do you think will happen to us then?
Yes its Shocking.
Roy

Hi redchris
I get what you mean and to some of what you say i agree with, however all i hear is he has bought rubbish like poulson ( fair enough he is) but nothing on the good side like raul meriles (sorry for spelling) I don't actually think in the summer we would have got better quality manager because of the state the club was in, and in all fairness if you were hodgeson and we came knocking wouldn't you have accepted it? And yeah the job probably is too big for roy but some of these comments on here wound me up a little when i posted this {ed's note - do you not think he would have been better spending the 15m spent on Meireles and Poulsen buying a striker? Every man and his dog knew we needed a striker most of all, yet he buys two central midfielders, then proceeds to play one of them out wide every single game!}

It is being too patient and nice and the best supporters in football that has got us into this mess in the first place we are shooting our selves in the foot i for 1 did call for rafas head and now im caling for roys and i defy anyone to call me a bad fan for that when i have the clubs best interests at heart roy is not good enough and that's that we can either support him and progressivly get worse because our best players won't stick around and new ones will be in the poulson mould or we can do something and encourage the owners to get a decent manager to take us forward. the manager is not the club, therefore an attack on the manager is not an attack on the club and not supporting the manager does not mean you are not supporting the club sorry rant over. (sorry for posting again i did mean this for the rumours page not banter)

What ever happened to the liverpool way? For all you negative hypocrite fans who only ever moan when we get a draw or loss but never comment when we get a win what happened to supporting the manager?? but then i expect you were the lot calling for Rafas head last season, maybe its just easier for you all to go and support man city and jump on that band wagon!

Shocking comments from so called liverpool fans {ed's note - ask anyone who plays for the club or anyone related to someone who plays for the club or is friends with someone who plays for the club. It is common knowledge that Roy and Sammy Lee are not working out, either get rid of all the players or changing the coaching staff, your choice.}
- - - - - -

Yes, the Liverpool way is to keep by the manager but you gotta go when you gotta go as the saying goes. Roy said to judge him after ten games - he was hovering above the relegation zone, yet we gave him another chance. Then he miraculously scores two goals against Chelsea but barely gets the ball outside our half in the second half - when was the last time a team ever got into the top four by trying to not lose; at least Rafa wouldn't sit back so strictly after going in front.
At this point I don't want to finish in the Top 4: that means we'll have to spend at least another season watching the sky during the game - or perhaps Roy will suggest we construct a wall of wet paint so we can be entertained by watching it dry instead of watching Poulsen give the ball away again.

Roy should resign so that this doesn't turn ugly - I have nothing but respect for the man as a person.

From what I can gather, the official takeover date was reported as the 15th of October.If their is a 28 day clause in his contract, Roy could be gone by Tuesday.Any thoughts Ed {ed's note - Purslow confirmed the clause in a press conference, so it must be there, I personally hope NESV decide to activate it and bring in a manager with fresh ideas who will look to win matches.}

28 days would be friday 12th November, He has 2 days

Ed I dnt knw but do u think we hv chance of getting guss hiddink as a manager I remember usaid we might if we allow him to coach turkey till his contract finish. Is there any chance he can manage both {ed's note - I don't think there is a hope in hell mate.}

10 Nov 2010 22:33:09
Hi Ed, you say the players see nothing but a desire not to lose in training. .was just wondering, we were led to believe this was the reason some players were not happy under Rafa.are you saying the players were happy with Rafa's tactics compared to Roy and that Rafa wasnt as defensive as he was made out to be? {ed's note - no, it was different with Rafa, there was a bit more variety to the training, something to keep the players interested. Danny Murphy described training under Roy as 'mind-numbingly boring', and unfortunately the players at Liverpool just aren't responding to his methods. Hours and hours of work on defensive shape doesn't give a player confidence that the team is looking to win games.}

ED after watching the match tonight
it's obvious that we need some attacking
players and i think honda would fit the bill
what do you think the chances of
signing him are and how much do you
think he would cost

MansfieldRED {ed's note - he would cost in the region of 10-12m I think, we have every chance of getting him, he wants a move to England and he has talked up a move to Liverpool.}

totally agree that is the best thing to do. but city won't let him join us cause were a rival. the only possibility is giving them a player. i was trying to think of another player except torres who could join. their at similar quality.

Yes just swamp his twitter. I made my own twitter account just so to increase the chances off him leaving. If we do it enough he should know that he would sack him. he did say he would "listen to the fans". I can't believe roy won lma manager of the year.

You said there looking for a manager, well i think the 3 obv choices are king kenny, frank rijkaard and Manuel Pellegrini (if still avilable). He needs to go so we can have a chance of 4th and that top players won't leave. Liverpool causes so much stress eh? {ed's note - Pellegrini took the Malaga job after he was told we had decided against appointing him.}

Wigan tore us to shreds 2nite, the ammount of times they got to the byline was disgraceful, we can count ourselves lucky that they dint hav someone on the end of them, , roy has to go, he got lucky with the last 3 results. and managed to fcuk it all up 2nite.
ed what do think about N'zogbia? looked good 2nite, albeit against an AVERAGE defence.
and i heard comolli was praising payet from st ethienne?
so nzogbia and payet ed?
would u like 2 see those 2 join? {ed's note - not N'Zogbia, he is a sulky little git, he only bothers trying when he feels like it.}

Ed can you elaborate on you last comment - its not a happy camp ?

LFC1 {ed's note - the players aren't happy, they are not enjoying life under Roy at all. His training methods are causing the players to feel dejected, they just don't see signs of anything other than a desire to not lose matches.}

Just what ive been told too, so ed the million dollar quaestion is what and more importantly when are the board gonna do something ?

And what fkin manager sets out to train a team not to lose at all costs? okay in prep for Barcelona maybe but not fkin Wigan (with reaspect to Wigan)

LFC1 {ed's note - I still believe what I was told a while ago - that a search for a new manager is on, it is just a case of finding the right man.}

Why for large periods of the game tonight did we let wigan have the ball all over the midfield whilst our own midfielders were retreating and getting into a defensive shape no pressing, no keeping the ball. .nothing. most managers press the ball high up the field then the defence step up, hodgeson does the complete opposite the midfield retreat and then the defence retreat further believable or unbelievable

Just would like to know if anyone on here supported Roy after Sunday (and slated non Roy fans) but have now changed there mind.

- - - - - - - - - - -

I still didn't support him after Sunday. The football was mainly poor and with exception of the goals we were defensive and the football was poor. Same with Napoli, Bolton and the rest of the season to be honest.
I think we need a new manager sooner rather than later.

If the fans organised a non-aggressive but high profile protest like a petition to ask Roy to play more attacking football or else go, woul NESV listen to the fans?
If Roy went, could Kenny possibly be any worse as a caretaker? I honestly don't think the team could play worse if they had NO manager.

Its time for all the lfc fans to make our voice's heard again. At our next home game we need to let the new owners know how unhappy we are with that Idiot runing the team, I'm watching tonight's game and apart from the goal we scored we look very poor at best, even before the game roy said in our next 2 games it very important to not lose WTF is this guy on, what he should be saying is in our next 2 games we have to get 6 points end off

Get Bielsa in whilst we can! He's out of work after quitting the Chile job. We would be treated to some great ATTACKING football, rather than the dross Hodgson is serving up, and he might even convince Alexis Sanchez to join him!

Ed im looking at rumours on this site and affeley seems like a palayer who everyone wants.
but i have not seen much of him and Elia seems to have had more game time at the wworld cup, what ive seen of affeley is a quite podgy player not much pace and average skill, but Elia seems quick skillful and is a great player in higher standard of league he is a goal scorer. To be honest I think he would be a better option, also wat do you think of alanzinho?
check him on youtube

and on layer sightings is that really the plans for stadium? {ed's note - Afellay has an expiring contract, that means he would cost very little and enable us to have more funds for other signings.}

Current gossip has roy looking at a number of january targets.

JONATHAN REIS. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The Brazilian forward joined PSV from the Atletico Madrid academy in 2007, staring for the reserves side before a serious injury thwarted his Eredivisie career before it had even began. Briefly loaned out to Tupi in his homeland, Reiss appeared set for a Phillips Stadium exit before the arrival of Fred Rutten.

Promoted to the first team, Reis would then have his contract terminated in January 2010 after failing a drugs test. He made his return six months later with a new contract at the club, and has been rejuvenated ever since.

The striker scored a hat-trick in the 10-0 thrashing of Feyenoord, and has seven goals in four league games since penning the new three-year deal.

URBY EMANUELSON. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Liverpool are being heavily linked with a free transfer move for Ajax full-back Urby Emanuelson.

The Dutch international defender's contract talks have broken down at the Amsterdam Arena, leaving agent Brian Berkleef to hint that the player could leave the club for free in the summer.

Roy Hodgson is thought to have targeted the 24-year-old as competition for Paul Konchesky at Liverpool, and the player's versatility as a potential left winger is also thought form part of the Merseyside club's interest.

VALENTIN STOCKER. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Valentin Stocker - with a view to making a January bid for the Swiss youngster.

According to German website 4-4-2, Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson - who managed the Switzerland national team - is keen to use his contacts in Swiss football to push through a deal for the 21-year-old FC Basel midfielder.

Valentin has caught the eye of a host of European clubs since bursting onto the scene two years ago, and has since gone on to represent his country - scoring three times in just six appearances thus far.

A fleet-footed attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, Valentin would certainly fit with the ethos of new Liverpool owners NESV in their quest to invest in young talent to develop a squad for the future at Anfield.

KEISUKE HONDA. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Liverpool are ready to challenge AC Milan for the services of Japanese superstar Keisuke Honda.

The versatile CSKA Moscow midfielder, who can also operate as a second striker or in the holding role, has been attracting interest from the Serie A giants since starring for Japan in the World Cup.

But Liverpool's new sporting director Damien Comolli is keen for the club to take Honda to Anfield in January.

According to Russian sources, a bid of around £9m should be enough to prize Honda away from Moscow, but should Liverpool make a move, Milan could launch a counter-offer.

JUAN MATA. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Juan Mata's drawn-out contract talks with Valencia.

Despite Sunday's win against Chelsea, injuries to Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt in the opening matches of the season exposed a thread-bare Liverpool attacking line.

Hodgson is keen to bolster his squad and avoid any other potential injury-crisis later in the season, and Liverpool will look to add quality in-depth.

Mata would almost certainly fit the bill, and Torres and Jose Reina could play a key role in enticing the player into a Premier League move. It would also please new owners NESV, who want to see young, attacking talent swell the Liverpool ranks.

January team:

Reina
Johnson Carragher Agger Aurelio

Ed what do ye think about James McCarthy? {ed's note - I am not sure, I always get him mixed up with the other Mac lad, is it McArthur? Never sure which is which! The one that was with Wigan last season looked great, the other one looks potentially good enough.}

McCarthy is the wigan and ireland younster , was injured quite badly recently but is a huge talent. The whole of europe including us were interested in him at 16 as he was playing and getting promoted from the scots first division scoring a fair share on the way, which he continued to do in the the prem division as a 17 year old. He made the wise choice of a smaller team in wigan to ensure he was involved in first team fotball and not wasted in the reserves. Really think he has a big future ahead of him, not sure if signed for wigan young enough i.e. before his 18th birthday to be considered home grown though.

Both he and McArthur came from the same hamilton accies side too ha

Dodge {ed's note - it is really confusing, but the one who went to Wigan first off is the better player, he is class, I think.}

Official starting line up for tonight but its weird that there are no defenders in the subs odd aint it ed?

True red {ed's note - it is unusual, must be injuries that has caused that.}

But i thought aurelio was fit enough for the bench and what about wilson and even if you don't have them you should put someone from the bench from the academy. bad tactics. his back up plan is to play poulsen or someone in defence if something happens.

I would like to see what people would think of the fans owning a portion of the club. If 100,000 fans each bought a £500 stake, that would raise £50,000,000 for say a 20-25% stake in the club? Which could buy 2 world class players or bankroll the start of a new stadium, and would also give the fans some control over the club affairs!
What would be your thoughts on this Ed?

Good Idea- Believe
Bad Idea - Disbelieve

It is true that Roy Hodgson may have the final say on the transfers , however should the board resist a signing due to his concerns and that player goes onto to be a great success elsewhere , the new regime of NESV and Damien Comolli may judge the managers job on such things .

Just seen this on LFC site, doesn't really look too thoughtful, a big risk, but has anyone seen him play other than the 10-0 a couple of weeks ago

Liverpool have reportedly sent scouts to watch PSV Eindhoven striker Jonathan Reis.Promoted to the first team, Reis would then have his contract terminated in January 2010 after failing a drugs test. He made his return six months later with a new contract at the club, and has been rejuvenated ever since.

"Having failed to overcome a troublesome calf injury, the Danish international was sent to see a specialist earlier this week. A scan revealed that any stress on the injury could cause further complications and as a result Agger has been ruled out of action indefinitely."

It has gone awfully quiet leaks-wise I can confirm. There could be several reasons for this but the most likey is either Liverpool are persuing nobody for the Xmas window or more likely the transfer decisions are now higher than Roy and he is no longer part of the decision process but just informed as-and-when of what's going on. The appontment of Camolli would lend credence to the latter.

The alleged player was allegedly involved in an alleged incident at the England Camp in the World Cup and said alleged incident allegedly caused sevee ructions in the team and allegedly is a major reason for the poor performance. There have been a lot of names linked with LFC in the last month and apart from wanting about half of them. There will only be a few who actually pull on the red shirt this season. Obviously I would love to see Mata, Llorente, Hazard, Lukaku and every other big up and coming talent but at least until next season we might have to hold off from being too ambitious in the market.
I would personally like to see Sakho, Jarvis and Honda come in in January. They are realistic targets.
We need another LB and for a long time (since Garcia and Kewell left) LFC has missed width. We obviously need another striker and Honda can play all along the front 4 of the 4-2-3-1 that Roy plays.These would be good January signings to take us through to summer.
- - - - -

We can't afford to be frugal in January. In the summer the financial regulations come in and that will restrict our spending.
We have 4 extra spaces in our squad and 2-3 players that could possibly leave - we have to at least bid for any world-class player willing to listen. We don't have to do some City-style 100m+ spending spree and rush our signings.
In my opinion, we would be set with the following:

Affelay 7m
Honda 12m
Hulk/ Llorente (unlikely) 20-25m

And possibly sell:

Babel 7m
Rodriguez 5m
And, if Ayala comes back sell Kyrgiakos 3mjon

Hi all
Watched alot of football the last week as I'm on hols including trip to see us beat chelski the weekend but I think we will sign Honda more than ever now as I jus watched cska from the weekend and they scored 4 goals and he didn't celebrate any also only looked interested when he was given the ball. Really looks like he wants out. I think he will def come also they had a lad playin called necid who looks quality. They play again live today on espn at 4 if you fancy a look. These 2 boys would be good business for us. Ed if a few clubs go for Honda do you think he would pick us? Also we can forget affellay as his agent is discussing details with barca now.
Fowler is god {ed's note - we have a very good chance of getting Honda, his first choice is to play in England and we are the best chance he has of challenging and getting regular first team football. I wouldn't be so sure of Afellay joining Barca, he wants to play not sit on the bench.}

Nesv are currently looking for players with a good market value that will increase popularity of LFC through Jersey sales.

Nesv have also recognised the popularity of the Spainish national football team because they are world and European champions. Due to this, some Spainish players will be on LFC radar. Such players include Mata and Llorente who are upcoming Spainish stars.

Honda will be a favourite to join LFC. His popularity in Japan and Asia will almost pay for the player alone from jersey sales and merchandise.

"The rest won't go and will everyone stop going on about Poulsen and Konchesky Mireles Lucas going as they won't there not that bad and they've only been there since the summer so you've got to give them a year at least."

Why are you suggesting that Meireles and Lucas are going anywhere? Lucas has been playing his best football recently and Meireles was a great signing and is a nice replacement for Masch. . I feel he might even be better than Masch since he doesn't seem to have the unpredictable temper that Masch has and seems less likely to lose it.

Liverpool should try get Steven Pienaar, i know i'm biased towards him due to his nationality, but bare with me here.
Then we should sign Steven Defour. .
A midfield bossed by the Steven(s) - Gerrard, Defour and Pienaar. .
Stevie GDP (lol pun intended).
Both these signings i could only see in the summer though. Stevie P (free transfer) , Stevie D (must prove fitness).
As for Jan i still rate

I think it obvious we are looking at and will try to sign Honda. Does that mean by your above comment that negotiations are probably well underway?
Also if that's the case, with your contacts, what other deals are already underway?

It seems alot of people may have taken NESVs statement about what type of player they will be looking to buy too literally. A player doesn't have to be young to be very marketable, the worlds most marketable player is David Beckham and hes nearly collecting his pension. I read a post on here about NESV maybe looking to sell super Stevie G. The countries that NESV will look to expand into (Asia, Africa, etc, I know they are continents but you get my point) would no doubt only be able to name you two Liverpool players, Stevie G and F Torres. Stevie and Fernando are worth far more to Liverpool in marketing sense than their transfer values.

So in a business sense there are a few things to look at when signing players. His resale value, What he will bring to Liverpool in merchandising, and will his contribution to LFC be worth his transfer fee and his weekly wages over the period of his contract. I don't think these three points have to go hand in hand. For example, if the board genuinely believe that if they purchased Forlan he would take us to our 19th title, although he'd have no resale value, or wouldn't add much to our marketing, that they'd purchase him due to his worth to team being justifiable.
The only player I can see that would truly satisfy all three at the moment is Honda, but alot of others clubs will also be trying to sign him for the same reason. Clint Dempsey maybe, but while he is a good player there are better available.
I believe that their statement was a thinly veiled attack at the average players Liverpool have (Jovanovic, Poulsen, Babel, Etc) on big contracts, and that alot of these will soon be shipped out

Ed, obviously teams can't sign players before January, but could a deal be done now, and then just wait till Jan for the player to move?

Tommy Walsh {ed's note - deals can be done at any time mate, look at Spurs, they have already signed a defender to join them in January.}

Liverpool's new 'director of football stategy' Damien Camolli has submitted his 'suggested' targets to the Liverpool board for approval.

His initial brief was to look for talent, but he has had to prove that each player would not only represent value for money but would be an excellent 'commercial marketing tool' to get the name of Liverpool Football Club to all corners of the globe.

The names are, as follows:
Honda - CSKA - Asia's best footballer, currently playing in Russia - Excellent player and known as Asia's 'Beckham' due to his popularity

Michael Bradley - Borussia Monchengladbach - Stong midfielder currently playing in Germany, but a current USA international (and son of the USA manager) -

Steven Pieneer - Everton - Great player - Could be available at a good price if we can get him to move from the rivals - Widely thought as as the best player in South Africa

Nelson Haelo Valdez - Hurcules - Paraguay international, currently playing in Spain - Only moved clubs at the start of the season, so may be one for the summer, but an excellent striker with a good goalscoring record.

No idea of prices and the board do not expect to get all of them, but no coincidence all the continents are covered.

There's no way Barca would let him go. He got 24 goals last year for them and kept Henry and Bojan on the bench that's how good this kid is. We've a better chance of getting Bojan IF he were available.

'To the guy asking for "real" rumours who then goes on to give the definition of rumour. .surely by it's very own definition there can be no such thing as a real rumour?'

A 'rumour' has to originate from somehwere (obviously) but it also has to have some degree of reality and dare I say a 'fact' to base it on i.e. if someones goldfish really does work for a sports agent and has overheard something, then it can be a rumour - Everything else equates quite simply to a lie - the definition of which is very different."

Sorry to get drawn into a debate about semantics but technically you're both right. A rumour is an unsubstantiated statement supposing a scenario to be true. By being posted on here, even if originally a lie, such a comment becomes a rumour simply by its presences as a statement that other readers do no know the validity of. Take the Gerrard texts that were doing the rounds - person A makes up a malicious lie they know not to be true but as soon as person B reads it, by definition it has become a rumour.
Christ i bored even myself there.

To the guy who said this. .

"Not a rumour just an observation. . . Likewise Gerrard who is 100% committed to the club but, in his own words "wants to win trophies and only has a maximum of 5 years at this level", I hope I'm wrong but he may have shot himself in the foot, NESV like to off load aging players before their value diminishes providing there is a replacement at hand, HONDA ?. Hope I've read the sign wrong, what's your opinion Ed?? {ed's note - Gerrard, like Torres, is worth too much in merchandising to let go because of his sale value dropping.}"

Did you not see Gerrard's hat trick against Napoli. The fans singing his name and he was a man possessed and liverpool looking like a one man team. Against Chelsea he was awesome as well and Torres was class.

No way would NESV cash in on them. The idea is that we would strengthen our squad and not deplete it. Plus why would they risk the wrath of the fans and reduce their merchandising level.

Giggs has proved you can be inspirational and play till you are older. Gerrard can do the same. Yes NESV want younger players but you need to do that in balance!

to the guy who said this. hes playing every week theres no chance of getting him he would never want to leave barca

And to the people who want bojan. hes not good enough, if he was he'd be getting games at barca been on the bench for three years or more instead a certain pedro who came along after him is a regular starter so proves hes not good enough

Not a rumour just an observation, NESV has stated their aims for a successful football team, being a young strong team going forward, they have also confirmed that senior players will be sold when the market and/ or opportunity is right. Which reading between the lines could mean we lose 3 top players in the next year or so. Carrag is beyond his best, his large value contract goes against the NESV condition, however, his market value is low so this may save him. Torres rumours of leaving are declining, all Torres wants' is to be in a team that wins trophies, I believe NESV will convince him their future plans are sound and provided we have Champions league football next year (which we will) he will say. Reina is another matter especially as he has now put forward his admiration of Benitez, this may well encourage NESV to cash in on this sooner rather than later especially if they can find a replacement that fits into their criteria. Do not beleive the transfer will ever happen, but I have heard that the new owners have made a certain Steven Pienaar from Everton a priority to sign in January.

Pienaar's contract is coming to an end soon and he is potentially available on the cheap and he is not only seen as a very good player, but also the perfect 'face' to enable the Red's to gorw their already big following in South Africa.

As I said, no idea if he would make the move across the park but would certainly welcome the signing if it happens ! {ed's note - Pienaar is a Liverpool fan and would love the move to happen, it is whether Everton would sell him to us that is in question.}

Ngog is going nowhere (as long as Roy is in charge) - When he arrived, he asled the legend that is Mr Ian Rush to have a look at all the forwards at the club, and he has posted a rave report about Ngog, suggesting he could be as good as Torres in a few years.

Not sure about that, but on paper the guy has got everything a decent striker needs - pace, power, height and can certainly finish (which is getting better)

Rush is also responsible for Roy's obsession on making Pecheco a wide player, as Rushy felt he was too lightweight to play down the middle in England

Liverpool will not be spending big in january - The new owners feel they need more time to assess the players and staff, and do not want to be rushed into making any rash signings or lose any players / staff unnecessarily.

However, they have earmarked 3 players who they would like at the club but they have put a strict maximum they are both willing to pay and offer re. wages, so they only really expect one to sign.

The players earmarked are: Honda, Young and Hulk.

Why won't people realise that were not getting rid of the ENGLAND INTERNATIONAL JOHNSON for two reasons.
1. He's English and fills the quota for us.
2. He's Currently the ENGLAND Right back why would you sell him.

Players in in Jan i'm guessing at
Carlton Cole
Kevin Davis( but would be very surprised at that one)
MAtouldi (sorry if its spelt wrong
And one other striker

OUTS
Babel.
Ngog (depending on strikers signed)
Insua

The rest won't go and will everyone stop going on about Poulsen and Konchesky Mireles Lucas going as they won't there not that bad and they've only been there since the summer so you've got to give them a year at least.

I do believe that with a couple of good buys in Jan we'll have a chance at 4th

To the person who wrote the above all of the players you are guessing at signing are crap and not good enough for Liverpool, also Insua is on a season long loan so won't be going anywhere till Summer. Ngog won't be going anywhere also as he is seen as a prospect for the futre. How can you possibly say the Konchesky and Poulsen are not that bad, they are two of the worst signings ever made as for Mireles going that's the first ive heard about it.

We will be 4th before Jan with the squad we have now.

Rumours from a very good source:
Agger is moving to Inter in January, for an initial fee of £9m, with add on's (dependant on games played over the next 3 years) which could pay an addidtional £3m.

The move has been agreed a the Reds have had an offer of £12.5m agreed for the French defender Mamadou Sakho, who can play both centre back and left back, as required.

Sakho also had an offer on the table from Arsenal, but has chosen the Reds as his father is apparently a life long fan of the club.

And the source - - Both players use the same marketing agents and my brother works for them.

Personally, never seen Sakho play live, but he comes with an excellent reputation, is young and an icon in France, so fits the new owners bill.

I can't believe somebody is posting that we should be selling Ngog. . why? He looks like he's gonna be a great player, no reason to sell him. Also, these to$$ers who say. ."We will sell a player for £Xmillion and another for £Ymillion and with the £35 mill off the owners". When are they gonna learn that it doesn't work like that. If the owners published the amount in the Transfer fund all of a sudden the fees for players will go up by at least 10%. It looks like we're going back to the old ways, as in nobody knows whose signed until there unveiled to the press which is the way it should be. Your opinions ED?

Sooty {ed's note - the owners will not give a set figure to spend anyway. Each signing will be judged on its own merits.}

Anyone got any real rumours? ?

'A rumor or rumour (see spelling differences), is often viewed as "an unverified account or explanation of events circulating from person to person and pertaining to an object, event, or issue in public concern'

Please see definition above - It does mean that you have not sat down whilst bored at work or having a pooh and made something up and please, just because someone writes something about a player signing, don't add it to your list unless you have further information - I bet half of you have not even heard of half the players you say are signing!

Liverpool will attempt to sign in Jan:

kranjcar
honda
shawcross

there won't be a great deal of signings in Jan, shawcross because Roy has said we need cover at the back and hes english and fits the quota set by NESV

Kranjcar has creativity and honda is simply fantastic + commercial revenue will increase.

i think these 3 are realistic in Jan, after that we can look at:

D.Bent ( there not gona sell in Jan as he scores all there goals and they wouldn't replace him)
Affeley
Mexes

Howdy,

Given recent quotes from NESV re transfers being decided by committe.

1. Not a lot of faith in Roy
2. How would any prospective managers feel about this?

I think Roy is doing well enough now to secure the job probably until the summer ( still expecting 451 against Wigan mind you ) and a top 4 finish will probably keep him in the job.

I'm not happy about it to be honest but of the managerial prospects out there - Who would come to the club if transfer policy is committe based?? Hardly a means by which you could build a dynasty.

Thinking about it though - If Roy puts us in the top 4 does he deserve to keep the job?

Agger to inter in January providing there happy with medical 4 mil. Babel to Barnet providing they can find £5.45 or someone like brum/ ajax for 5mil. Hopefully players like insua and degen can make their moves permenant in Jan to bring in funds then whoevers in charge could have close to 50 mil, if the 30-35 mil nesv are rumoured to be putting in is true.
I'd like Marko Marin (15m) Antonio Cassano (4m if not free) crazy but amazing, Affelay (6m or poss swop with babel to psv) Arda Turan (10-12m) and Honda would be a great buy for about 8-10m. See whats on offer in terms of loans sergio canales from real would be great for 6 months

Couple of points ed:

Do you reckon some of these so called journalists read pages like ours and other clubs pages and when news goes dry resort to publishing the most popular "rumours" as facts cause all of a sudden after god knows how many different fans including myself (and uor edliness) have been circulating the name Honda and all of a sudden he pops up as one of our targets. Coincidence i think not

No surprise that woy has no idea who we are buying (or not) in Jan and it will be no surprise if we know nothing until we actually sign someone going back to our old values. Remeber signing Daldlish we knew nothing till he had signed.

TC
comment {ed's note - yes they do, lots of people look on these kind of sites, some are working for the clubs looking to keep an eye out for leaks, some work for newspapers doing the same thing, except that they will take any old rubbish to fill pages when news is quiet! Honda has hit the papers more because he keeps talking up a move to Liverpool, he is desperate to get out of Russia and really wants an EPL move.}

Gk: reina, jones, hansen
Rb : kelly, darby
Cb : carrag, skrtel*, wilson, agger, greek, wisdom, #
Lb : taiwo, konchesk, aurelio (he can b releasd)
Cm: gerrard, raul, lucas, banega, shelvey, spearing, poulsen* (cm includes d not so necesary for this formation a dm)

Lw : cole, honda, #
Strk : torres, kuyt, hulk, lukaku, ngog, jova, suso, pachecho, #
(# indicates youngsters who can b given chance, * can b sold off). So guys doesn't this squad seem realistic, convincin n promising? Also remember that too many changes in 1st team causes technical, adjustmt, understd probs. Love the site perhaps its my cocaine. Ur thoughts ed?

No need to be alarmed, the Mail were just reporting that Hodgson doesn't know anything about transfers any more but they were to dumb to realise it and thus resorted to their standard line of Liverpool being in trouble. How do you know he is going to Barca? Please don't tell me you're basing this entirely on a piece from a pro Barca paper? Last i heard he hadn't made up his mind and just gave a standard "it'd be great to play for. ." answer that all footballers give. It's also worth checking the quotes as many have left out the word "don't" from what he said to intimate that Barca have already made contact with PSV. Pro Barca paper+sloppy journalism, nothing more. He may well end up at Camp Nou, but if you believed everything Sport put out then they'd have half the pros in the world registered.

It is worrying that no one has offered him a contract yet though, that suggests either a medical or mental problem because the lad has no shortage of ability.}

Agree withyou ed i think we should sign the young lad taarabt plus wickham 2 young fantastic talents we could seal these 2 players with swap deals ngog for taarabt and sell bable and buy wickham wot do u think ed {ed's note - I am not sure I would want Taarabt, his ability is excellent but his attitude stinks. Wickham I think could be good, so long as the price is right, because, as of now, he is not of the level required. Suso is a better talent for the future!}

Afellay is going to Barca. So we can all stop linking him with us! Although I would love to see him in a red shirt, he would be class with gerrard in the middle of the park he is just what we need.
