As is so often the case in life and sport…. it’s the hope that kills you! Just a few weeks ago we were brimming with hope, but now the underlying fear (what we probably all knew but didn’t say out loud on case we spooked the season! ) …. namely that we are just not good enough …. is patently obvious. I HOPE (still) that I will have to eat my words, but I think this season is done now.

All enduring thanks and love to Klopp, but I think he is burnt out and that is spilling over to the team …. It’s what so often happens in elite sporting environments (had a long chat yesterday about this with a senior academic / sports psychologist who specialises in elite sport mental health) .

The team has beaten my expectations but yes we've over achieved this year.
Let's hope the new manager can galvanize the team to heights klopp was missing.

And there I was deceiving myself that the lads and manager would give a good account of themselves tonight. I and many others have said it appears there is something going on behind the scenes, because this has got to the point of utter disbelief. I'm sure it will leak sooner or later about what has taken place, because trust me something has. Players can't motivate themselves. Klopp can't motivate himself or the players. Honestly, we could lose 20-0 and the following game there would be absolutely no response. I posted my theory a few weeks back on what I think has happened, but could be wide off the mark.

As for Klopp, I have said all I needed to say. Tactically he looks clueless and the thing is he will continue to use the same tactics until the end of the season, despite results and performances on a downward trajectory. And sadly it looks like the boys have zero fight in them so they will continue to put out the same effort. Only shining light is a new manager is coming in, which is looking like Amorim, because if it's not him then it's prayer time. The pool of managers after him to say is worrying would be an understatement.

We defend like a League 2 side and can't finish. I mean, what a combination. I expect a massive clear out, and when I say massive I mean most of this squad gone. Bring in quality in key areas (defence and striker) and promote the kids. You can literally get rid of that backline bar Quansah, Robbo, Trent, Bradley and that's just the backline never mind who I would move on in midfield and forward positions. Forget sentiments with Gomez, he would be sold. Konate if we are having an honest conversation has regressed as a defender. I had high hopes for him but he is so rash, and defensively is all over the shop. Oh, and he is injury prone. VVD is 33 years old in July, contract expires in 2025, is on big wages and again, if we are having an honest conversation ain't the same VVD. Matip's contract expires in the summer and won't and shouldn't be renewed. And lastly, why is Kostas still at the club? I don't care if a massive clear out sounds like a big job or drastic. That whole backline needs revamping because defence wins you titles and strikers win you games. Which is why I'm excited if Amorim does actually come, as it is said he will bring Gyokeres, Inacio and Diomande with him.

It appears a very bad mentality has swept through the squad and I would root it out. Leave alone that, a number of players are simply not good enough anyways. Plus, a lot of those have been played or kept around through Klopp's loyalty. Those players will be in for a shock once that shield has been removed come summer!

Couldn't agree more fella.

We all know what Klopp has done for us, there is no denying it.

However, I'm sorry, rushing out to the opposing manager and congratulating him is unacceptable to me.

Yes, give him a handshake and say well done, but running round the pitch and grabbing everyone to say well done for beating us. f@#k off.

I'm going to get absolutely ripped apart for this, but if I as a fan are done with Klopp (yep I said it, I think he is deservedly on the beach, but I always want the best for us, no one is bigger than LFC) for us how aren't the players? I'm thinking the players are like, "He's not going to be here next year, and my contracts up so stuff him and stuff the club".

Everyone is disappointed with how this season is petering out but there’s a way to win and a way to lose. You’ve just attacked the greatest manager we’ve had since the 80’s, who has made this club the best in the world, won the league title and champions league and has this squad well ahead of schedule all because we’ve hit a sticky patch at the worst possible time. He doesn’t even want to be here he’s stayed longer for the good of the club.
A classless post from a classless poster.

19 Apr 2024 06:40:29
Not sure getting all doomsday and apocalyptic about all the players and coaches intention and effort is a really immature way to look at it.

19 Apr 2024 06:59:04
Absolutely pathetic and childish reaction. I hadn’t heard any suggestions from anyone that this squad needed ripping up until after the Utd game?

Agree fully Alonso. Respect to what Klopp did in his first 5 years. The last 4 years have flattered to deceive though, sadly. In hindsight that 7-2 loss to Villa followed by Virgil’s injury was the point at which the decline started and despite his best efforts I just don’t think Klopp’s ever managed to get us back to the 2018-2020 team. Poor inverted full back tactics, slow build up play, defensively weak without a prime Van Dijk to carry us, loyalty to sub par players etc.

Overall I still love Klopp and what he’s done (best memories f my lifetime as a Liverpool fan) but the timing is not only right, it’s arguably 12-18 months too late.

Some can call me childish, some can call me a classless supporter and some can call me immature. That’s all fine as we are all entitled to our opinions. Many and I mean many fans feel the same way as me. Some might not like the tone in which I delivered that message and are choosing to be blinkered or blind to the actual points regarding tactics or the lack thereof, and how the players look disinterested and quite frankly lost. Because how someone can look at the performances let alone the results and say nope everything is fine, is personally beyond me. Again, each to their own.

I have said multiple times, and on here mind, that I am grateful for Klopp and what he has done for us. I mean, do us posters that have criticism to aim at Klopp have to put that out as some kind of disclaimer on every post before criticising him? He has brought us good times, in fact great times. But IMO, and some can and will argue it, his time at Liverpool has run its course. He looks tactically spent, the players look mentally and tactically spent and fresh ideas and squad refresh is desperately needed. Klopp is not above criticism and is not above this club. Our, or should I say my club as I’ll speak for myself here comes above any manager and any player.

And back to my earlier point about putting disclaimers before criticising Klopp - despite everything I have posted a number of times that I still wanted (want because the league is still on) the man to have the best send off possible and for the players to have some pride to at least deliver that for him. But currently it’s look like we are finishing this season on a whimper and above everything that is sad to see.

Btw, to those fans that want to attack me and focus on tone and delivery and completely ignore and look past any points made. You can be grateful to someone but feel the time has come for said person to move on. You can have great times and years with someone but the end of said relationship goes awry, for lack of a better word. Two of those things can be true at the same time.

Hurt he is leaving.

Frustrated with the position we were in being squandered.

Tired of feeling annoyed and loving him at the same time.

Bored of worrying about how his trophy haul will look vs the memory of our lived experience with him in the history books.

Great things have been accomplished.

Mistakes have been made.

He will leave us as an elite club football culture builder.

Will support him and his team until the last kick this season, thank him for the culture he has built and the unparalleled memories, and wish him and his family well for his next chapter.

Reluctantly, the time for change is right.

I’ve no problem with reactions after the game.

It’s classy to reach out and congratulate opponents after the game.

Fight like hell during the game and then accept the result with good grace.

Kimkuraking, I agree with you totally on how football has changed under billionaire owners, especially the oil state owned clubs.
The refereeing is also becoming a farce, the Tottenham game earlier this season realy knocked my interest in the game.
Have missed so many matches this season just doesn't feel enjoyable to be a part of for me.

so both city and arsenal are out of CL
i do hope it deals a psych blow to them
but can we pick ourselves up and capitalize on any slips ups they may have in the PL? or will we continue to slip up ourselves?

I just hope in this final stretch, Klopp pushes the players to do one final high pressing game - we win big or lose, doesn't matter, just play the way that best reflects Klopp and the football he brought to us

and please no possession slow build up, it yields neither results nor entertainment. even if we win nothing else this season, let's at least make games exciting and enjoyable.

Not shocked at Arsenal. England’s laughing stock in Europe. But Man City was a pleasant surprise, shame they aren’t playing in the prem this weekend they could be tired. Hopefully Chelsea drag them through another extra time.

18 Apr 2024 14:22:16
I'd rather the team won than watch high-energy, entertaining football. What's the point of playing if you give it all, entertain the stuffing out of everyone and lose?
A scrappy, flukey 1 nil matters more.

17 Apr 2024 22:48:54
Let's hope that's confidence draining for Man City.

And physically draining too,

Anyone else thinking we should just go for it tomorrow night and play a 4-2-4 formation? Mac Allister and Endo in the midfield for a bit of defensive cover and then Gakpo, Jota, Nunez and Salah as the four attackers?

Nothing to lose, might as well properly go all out and see what happens!

Given that PSG went to Barcelona and tore them apart 4-1 what have we got to lose but to go for broke. Think that’s a great idea.

17 Apr 2024 22:26:59
If it happens I’m applying for Klopp’s job 👍.

17 Apr 2024 23:01:35
Can they afford you though Johnny?

18 Apr 2024 12:44:13
I'll take a pay cut VV, just for the first season anyway 👍.

18 Apr 2024 14:48:37
It will be interesting to see if we have learned anything from the last game against Atalanta, get the first goal and it’s game on, if 2:0 up with 15 to that could well be the plan. We need to be well drilled and take our chances and probably have a bit of luck, so here’s hoping! (1st time poster - be gentle! ) .

18 Apr 2024 15:27:00
I think that’s very decent of you Johnny. Good man!

I’m of the mindset that we pumped them 5-0 at their place before and we can do it again if we’re aggressive and brave.
