You have to be a certain age to appreciate that humour, Ed033 ;-)

{Ed033's Note - at least a few people will get it.

16 Nov 2018 21:08:22
Unfortunately I do lol.

16 Nov 2018 21:22:52
Sad to say, I got it!

I don't know whether I am late on this topic or not, what is your take on capping number of foreign players? . I think it will take adverse affect on the quality of league. They want more English players to get the chances but won't it will be other way around. They will get easy tickets to first team without working hard enough?

Its a tough question, for me something needs to be done, for the homegrown talent. After all its English football.
It stagers me that on occasions not 1 British player is even in the squad.
With the quality of coaching available now days surely more British players should be coming through.

16 Nov 2018 17:11:28
It's a complicated issue.

Managers in the Premier League are generally brought in for short term gains, even if the owners/ board say otherwise, so I imagine they find it difficult to play the youngsters coming through their own youth systems and instead look abroad. This means any quality young English players who do break through at lower level Premier League and Championship level teams now costs a premium so again clubs look abroad.

The simple answer for a young English player then is to move abroad and join a German, Spanish ect team where they're more likely to be shown the patience needed to improve. However, the youth of England seem to get a little more nervous about moving abroad than their continental counterparts - perhaps due to lack of language studies in school ect - so never make the jump. This is then exacerbated by the fact that a young English player can seemingly make more money staying in the youth system here than making a permanent move abroad so unless they're incredibly driven - by things like playing time, personal development and on the pitch success - they simply don't have the incentive to move abroad.

I wouldn't expect such a simple solution as capping the number of foreign players to solve such a complicated issue without potentially wide-ranging implications.

If I were throwing out ideas I would at more subtle, longer terms solutions, perhaps look at clubs or the FA investing money in language classes (Spanish and German for example) for players in the youth system as well as classes dedicated to understanding finances both of which would help players feel more comfortable being independent abroad. Then perhaps look a youth contracts ect and maybe reduce the amount players below a certain age can be paid - which might already be in place - to encourage them to play for lower league teams and teams in other countries were they will be more likely to get consistent playing time.

These are just a couple of improvised solutions though and I hope there's many people smarter than me discussing this issue and not jumping to anything rash.

16 Nov 2018 18:29:27
Great post IronDan, and I completely agree. Language classes through the youth teams is a great idea.

It’s all about money I’m afraid. I remember back in the 90’s, when all the money was in the Italian League, players were quoted saying they’d never play football in England, food is terrible, weather is crap etc etc.

Fast forward a few years or so and it’s a case of “ I’ve always wanted to play in the premier league “ .

First. Shaqiri, now Dembele, those who got away have been gotten back.

Konoplyanka in January?

Hi Ed,
Apologies this isn't strictly Liverpool-related, but I wanted to get your opinion on the supposed retirement payout to Richard Scudamore comprised of individual 'kitty payments' from each Premier League club.
Whilst I know that large retirement payouts are not uncommon, especially for executive-level employees, but I believe this would be in really bad taste, and I, alongside presumably most of the Liverpool fan base, would not be in favour of this at all.

{Ed001's Note - large retirement payouts are supposedly meant to be to help someone who has to suddenly cope with a lower income, not for some rich prick who has systematically attempted to destroy the game from the fans perspective to line the pockets of himself and the clubs. He should have been sacked 19 years ago with nothing. It is a disgrace.}

Agree with every word, thanks a lot.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome. It sickens me to be honest.}

14 Nov 2018 07:26:49
Completely agree Ed1, it's wrong on so many bloody levels. He doesn't need the money, he's already minted so wtf? it's as bad as begging if you ask me, is the money not better off going to a charity what NEEDS it? this is just another example of the rich making themselves richer and not giving a damn about anybody else but themselves and their own pockets. It boils my blood. Could you imagine him giving any of that money to any charity in need? no chance, greedy bast*rd. There's people on normal wages giving loads weekly/ monthly to people in need then you get these absolute idiots. Completely agree Ed it is a disgrace.

{Ed001's Note - I don't get it either, why would they even suggest the idea? It is obscene.}

14 Nov 2018 10:32:23
I know Ed and even worse, there's people this Christmas unable to give their children a Christmas present, unable to heat their homes, unable to bloody eat, unable to keep a home yet then you get pieces of sh*t like that taking 5 million because suddenly he's entitled to it? why is he? It's a real sore subject for me mate it really is.

{Ed001's Note - I really do not get why they even thought that this was a good idea. He was extremely well paid, there should be no need to dole out more to him. If he had anything about him he would have turned it down anyway when the idea was presented.}

14 Nov 2018 11:22:32
I think it is because he has made all of the clubs stupidly rich and this is his mates way of getting them to say thank you.
I'm sorry but the whole thing is wrong, he has done his job and filled the pockets of many people involved with the game. If clubs have £250,000 they can find for a rich man who has done his job then maybe they could find more to give to local football charities (i know clubs already do things for local communities but hopefully you get my point) .
I am all for thanking someone for almost 20 years of work but club together and get him a watch not £5,000,000 that could go to far better causes, especially this time of year!

{Ed001's Note - exactly. £5m would see a lot of homeless people no longer homeless for instance.}

14 Nov 2018 12:13:56
Spot on, although I don't know why councils don't go down the route of temporary housing (buy some land that can't be used for other means) and put them up in caravans or something of that ilk, all the homeless want is a roof over their head, some food and a bit of heat plus somewhere with an address so they can try and get themselves back on their feet. but that is a whole different subject!

As you have said if Scudamore had anything about him he would tell the clubs to direct at least some of it to those in need.

14 Nov 2018 13:22:59
Well said Ed1 and WY. Exactly my thoughts. I have nothing more to add, it saddens me people like that don't give a damn about people in need whilst they're sat there in their mansions not giving it a second thought celebrating they're 5 mil up. It's a dissgrace and it really infuriates me.

14 Nov 2018 13:52:02
That's the problem Salah, most people have become so 'inward' looking and seem to have the opinion if i don't see it doesn't happen. The game that is the common denominator for us all on this site is littered with people that are comfortable money wise and don't think about the fans that get them to where they are.
I'm not saying they should give up everything but a small gesture to someone that has fallen on hard times would go a huge way, if we were all a bit more respectful to one another the world would seem a much better place. And a £5m payout which is effectively funded by the fans is just a massive kick between the legs.

14 Nov 2018 21:33:20
Very well said guys. Couldn't agree more. there's a lot of homeless near where I live. And 2 months ago I was nearly homeless.
Thankfully 2 friends stepped in so was lucky. Always try to give them some food or hot drink.

15 Nov 2018 07:51:56
Wholeheartedly agree with this thread. Walter sorry to hear of your circumstances but glad good people around you helped out. 8 years ago I got into financial difficulties, all of my own making. I was fortunate that I was employed and it took 5 tough years to get myself straight again. there but for the grace of God go us all, Scudamore and the Apprentice wannabe that came up with this should hang their heads in shame.
Please think of those less well off this festive season. I’m about to change jobs within the same organisation, if they have a collection (which I certainly don’t need) then I’ll make no apologies for donating it to a local food-bank. The thought of people on £500k per week whilst others go hungry and sleep rough turns my stomach 😢.

Nasri to Westham? after his ban ends. This one could either way to be honest I always love a signing like this when other teams take the chance on problem players. I'm glad it's not us but very interesting to see if he still feels like playing football.

Bet ya a grand it isn't.

{Ed025's Note - nice one roller..

12 Nov 2018 19:26:59
Isn’t he highly religious and gambling goes against his beliefs? He and Liverpool have said he has never bet - ever!

{Ed025's Note - its not about him gambling 1jj, its about passing on information about injuries etc mate, they are allegations at this stage which im sure he will refute..

13 Nov 2018 11:10:50
if i was a betting man, he has probably been accused of passing on team news (i. e. if he starts) for the first scorer market, still out of order but don't think he has placed a bet himself.

12 Nov 2018 18:27:42
Question for all posters. Who do you rate as future England stars. Who you think could be part of another golden generation.

There's, Gomes, Trent, sessagnon, Brewster, angel Gomes, alli, sancho, rashford who else is capable do you think?

Before his injurys I would have added Butland to that list, but the poor fella hasn't progresed since returning.

13 Nov 2018 12:00:14
Youve missed out a few players who look like they can step up well,

Foden, Chilwell, Win-Bassanka, Walker-Peters, Sessengon, Lookman, Nelson, Veira, Odoi

all depends on if they get the game time to progress the ones most likely in my bunch above are Win-Bassanka, Sessengon, Chilwell since they are playing every week.

11 Nov 2018 16:33:23
Everton did their part, so i'm going to say it. Come on United! A win would mean we're outright top of the league, and we'll get a week of relative peace from the doom-mongers writing us off already!

Can't rely on City losing points to bad teams.

Rather see United out of the race before December myself, big 6 becomes 5.
